He’ll probably never see this but I want Hiroyuki Takei to know that he made one of the coolest fucking manga of all time. Shaman King is a series that means the world to me and has become a huge part of my identity. I named myself Asakura because of Yoh. I collected every volume of the manga. I bought every video game I could get my hands on. I even started collecting the figures. Your style and characters are some of my favorite in all of manga and I can’t thank you enough for creating this series that I love so much. Thank you so much, Takei-sensei, for creating one of my favorite manga. Keep making cool things.
I was literally about to say the same thing. Shaman King was one of my favorite anime to watch as a kid. I feel so sad that he thinks it was a huge letdown. I wish I could have hugged him through the screen honestly. He has so much talent!
is that really his kid? cuz apaprently i saw a pic of his daughter and she looks full white?? did he adopt some one? or was his wife white or something?
When he said that Shaman King was a series that is being looked down on it breaks my heart to hear that. I never felt that Shaman King was a loss but cheers to Hiroyuki Takei-san keep up the good work and you will reach your dreams of putting your series on the top.
the manga is great (collected it when it was published back in the days) but the anime adaptation (the latest one) isn't very good, the adaptation doesn't do the manga justice
Shaman King was and will remain one of the most vivid memories for those who grew up in the early 2000s throughout the post-Soviet space. Ask any twenty-year-old guy or even a girl about what they did every day after school as a child, most will say that they ran home so as not to miss a new episode. The first anime for many of us. What we have never seen before. The story and the characters who attracted attention and limitless child imagination. As I got older, I discovered the original manga and found out the true ending. I was shocked. I could not believe that the very heroes of my childhood actually lost and that the main villain won. I understood that it was more logical, even the characters themselves understood that there was no other way, and yet they managed to do everything possible to save the world. I still dream of a possible remake of the anime series, but I know very well author’s thoughts about this idea and will just keep these hopes in my heart. Anyway, I will be happy because I will have a wonderful tradition of doing two things once a year: to rewatch the Lord of the Rings trilogy and re-read the Shaman King manga. Thanks to Hiroyuki Takei-san for our happy childhood. Thank you for teaching us that it is always worth looking for good in people, even if others refuse. Thank you so much for the wonderful characters and the exciting story. But most of all I thank you for Anna. P.S. And of course thanks to the Archipel channel for this video.
i remember when they had ended season 1 on Jetix I couldnt wait for season 2 and each time the last episode of season 1 aired i was so hopeful that this time we get the actual continuation instead of episode 1 rerun. The pain was immense. but then finally it happened and we got season 2 gosh my excitement! Loved shaman king.
I've watched this interview multiple times at this point. Every single time it has made me cry. Hiroyuki Takei-sensei has been an immense inspiration to me and I've been watching/reading his series ever since I was a kid. Popular or not, I want to say a wholehearted "Thank you" to him even if he never reads this comment.
This interview felt so somber for the most part, but his line at the end about proving that Shaman King deserves its place gave me the biggest grin, and seeing him laughing afterwards was especially uplifting. Shaman King was the first manga I started reading in the first issue of Shonen Jump I received, and it's always meant so much to me. It used to be up there with One Piece and Bleach in my eyes, even though its popularity eventually dropped. The series is basically on life support now and Hiroyuki Takei is clearly having a tough time, but hearing that he'll put his all in his next work fills me with hope that he'll really pull it off. Shaman King fans like me still exist, and we'll always be rooting for you!
I just want the original Shaman King to get animated. Ana's story was beautiful, and Shaman King is one of the few manga to actually get the chance to have a good ending. Yoh is also a very unique main character. I hate that it just faded off.
@@Manganization there was an offer for the whole series to be animated for the 20th anniversary but Takei shot it down. He wanted the original anime cast and they couldn't promise that
The announcement of the new anime make me comeback to watch and recommend this video again, it makes me so happy for Hiroyuki Takei!! He will finally understand that this series has a special place in every one of us, and he can prove it to the new generations. It would be amazing to get a follow-up video once the anime is out to see his opinion and perspective about it.
Shaman King.......saved my life! No exaggeration in this statement. I truly believe that I would not be here right now (at 26 years old) if it wasn't for this amazing story that he wrote. I am beyond thrilled and excited for the new anime adaptation and cannot wait to see this masterpiece. For such an underrated story to get the Brotherhood treatment is the most amazing thing. I truly hope that Hiroyuki Takei is aware of how many lives he touched with his story as I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I just started crying while reading the comments too, Shaman King manga actually saved me from my lowest depression points so many times. This is the story that will always be the dearest to me.
Shaman King is pretty popular in north africa (algeria, morroco, tunisia and egypt) it’s a shame it didn’t get the recognition it deserved. I hope one day you’ll make a portrait of kentaro miura.
My all time favorite manga. Shaman King taught me a lot from shounen, but it also taught me that Shounen doesn't have to be senseless fighting or too juvenile. It introduced me to characters I loved, hated, appreciated and accepted, due to their different points of view and in a way... it introduced me to philosophy and ethics. I remember reading interviews of Hiroyuki Takei how he would talk about the characters as if they existed. It was funny to me because I thought that too... they felt real even though I knew they were not. If you are willing to open up and look at the right places, you will see that Shaman King has a certain quality that no other manga has. It has heart, sincerity and a soul even though he doesn't realize it. It gets cynical at times, but in cyniscim there is always a ray of hope in a way that is believable. I have nothing but respect for this man right here. If he was making things for having fun himself, I am thankful for that. If he was trying to do something different, he got it. If he felt like he was losing grip of what he wanted to do, I am also thankful for it because it gave us Kang Zen Bang. Shaman King has had a special place in my heart and was, is and will always be the manga that introduced me to things I will never experience in any other manga. I also wished that he would release a Seinen manga to pursue all of those dark notes in Shaman King but if he wants to give it a try once again with Shounen manga, hey, I am sure he can do it. I am sure he is able to do it! PS. Shaman King Flowers had a lot of potential, don't lose grip Takei-sensei! PPS. I love this man.

When he says that Shaman King is a belittled series, it breaks my heart. It is one of the most important manga for me and even today I would love it to be released with the official ending in my country. I wish I could send a letter to Takei Sensei and say how much Shaman King is still loved by me and other people in Brazil.
Same~~:( I always wanted to send that letter, or visit him just for cheer up & thanks him for all what he did in our childhood...he seems to don't know SK really worth it!
@@mrhagane1 Makes sense, The whole philosophy really doesnt sem out of ordinary in japan but is probably more unusual i western countries, and hitting. Reminds me of samurai champloo, which also is underrated, and great. He just didnt have the big overseas market audience yet counted in.
In Russia and ex-Soviet countries Shaman King is often remembered with nostalgia even among those who doesn't really like anime or manga. In is a part of our childhood and youth. Yoh Asakura is different from Naruto, Luffy, Ichigo or Goku, because he isn't some hot-blooded guy with no brains. The setting is the real world, which is also doesn't often occurs in the shonen manga. It has some thoughts on the human nature. If Takei only knew how loved is Shaman King here, he would have a little better opinion on himself. And new adaptation is coming! It is a chance to change everything.
This man is a legend. Shaman King is a masterpiece. I'm 28yo and I revisit this series once in a while and each time it brings something new into perspective. It is so deep and profound and spiritual and nostalgic. Thank you so much,Sir, for bringing these characters to live!! If you think these series wasn't successful, look closely, cause it touched the hearts of people who needed it the most, the real kind hearted people, like yourself! Your mind and soul are exquisite! 👑
Thank you so much for your work! My favorite "hero" from Jump's history has always been Yoh. Since was a child I have always thought how weird was to have a shonen protagonist wishing to just relax and have peace. Now is one of the most compelling characters I hve encountered. I guess we just need to wait for the next Hiroyuki's work.
Shaman King was my first anime/manga...I was 9 then. Now I'm 26... I will always love it. To this day I still love the art and characters. I would love to see it as a series. It deserves a reboot, it is incredible.
I'm a big fan of Hiroyuki Takei. Shaman King is an amazing work, full of subtleties, a truly captivating manga. It's the only closed kanzenban collection I own here, and I'm proud of it. Thank you so much Archipel! Greetings from Brazil
*Hiroyuki Takei-sama; i wish you could know that you were the man who opened my eyes to the world of manga and that my life has been directly influenced by the philosophies of Yoh. when i was a 12 year old boy nothing in the world could've compared to Shaman King and till this day i am still completely captivated by your artwork and the way you've portrayed character development. in my personal opinion Shaman King is tied for JoJo as the greatest anime series of all time, (i realize that alot of people would disagree with me, sadly) but i have read every single page of every single manga that this man has ever created.... He is the only mangaka in the world that i have given myself the opportunity and time to go through their whole body of work, and it is well deserved. it is a god damn fucking shame that Hiroyuki-sama isnt revered in the industry as one of the greatest of all time along with his counterparts from that era. i wish i was able to articulate my sentiments towards this man in a more profound way but it is one of those things that is so close to my heart that human words could NEVER do it justice to explain the way that Shaman King makes me feel or the devoted love that i have for it. I fucking love you Hiroyuki Takei-sama and i will forever be indebted to you for the influence you bestowed on me as a young man. He will never be forgotten and someday, when i have children i will show them Shaman King because i believe that it is important for the next generation of manga/ anime lovers to know this mans greatness and appreciate him in the same ways that i do. You will forever have a place in my heart, soul, mind, and family Takei-sama. I revere Hiroyuki in a way that i could never have for another man. This series was special and a once in a life time experience to be a part of. You changed my life Hiroyuki Takei, and i wish i could repay the favor to you as well
15:20 that "I just want to make cool things" line, with the joy of creating something in the next scene, while being in and out of the Manga industry, and still being cool and joyful about it, is what made me have respect for this guy... he is a true visionary, and above all, he is the meaning of a CREATOR! Not for the money, not for fame... just for himself... and that people, is one of the hardest things to achieve... to fight your ego, even tho you know you could make great things, just for the love of pure art... Salut to this Living Legend!
Yoh is one of my favorite characters of all time, his words of wisdom often resonate with me so much that I still use him as avatar eventually. Shaman King was one of the few mangas I bought an entire collection and I also respect the fact that women characters didn't have oversexualized designs and were often treated with due respect. It's a great manga, really underrated.
For me Shaman King was my dragon ball. It's a shame i was the only one who watched the anime and was sad it ended that way. Only to realize it has a manga When i turned 13 and read it all through and waited eagerly till I got to the last chapter. Thank you for giving me a world to experience and love. Keep doing what you love and I fondly await flowers to return and i am reading through the spin offs.
A notification from Archipel is probably the best xmas present. Thank you for this and all the amazing work you gave us this year, i'm always looking forward to whatever this channel uploads.
I live in France and here Shaman King has been the gateway to the world of manga for many young people. I don't know how it is perceived in Japan but Hiroyuki Takei should be proud that his manga had such an impact abroad.
If Hiroyuki Takei could read that, I wanted him to know how Shaman King was one of the first mangas I've bought and have it until today. I love that series and I wish it had more love. Here hoping that one day they'll make a proper remake of the anime. Hiroyuki-sensei, you are the best!
@Shaman Xeed One of the reasons why he refused was two reasons. The voice actors and the JAPANESE soundtrack from the old anime. Yeah, do you see a problem with his comment?
Nitwit's World I give him credit that he thinks the original cast did such a great job that he would want everyone back, that’s respect. However I do feel that’s limiting his creation. He did say that he used create to have fun for himself and not his readers and regrets having that mindset. He also said that he wants to prove that shaman king has a place in the shone world, so I hope he learns how to compromise with a new anime adaptation. I also wish him luck with his new projects
@@MPW2012 Ye' man, he said he wanted to prove Shaman King was good, and he got an offer from MOTHERFUCKING MADHOUSE and he rejects it, fucking hell man, I can't think of many others studio that can make a work of quality like Madhouse, that was his chance to jump back to popularity and he soiled it, let's hope we get a new series at all. I said with a broken English.
@@NoxSuperNova ehh I'm ok with him skipping out on madhouse. If that did happen, 9/10 they would've only given us a 12 episode season, then make us wait four years only for another studio to finish it up
P.S. This channel has been a gem for me since I landed on it during the first Covid-19 lockdown. I really enjoy and appreciate the editing style and focus. I think this is my 3rd time rewatching this vid, and I rewatch some of your other uploads too ☺
Thank you Mr Takei. I grew up with your story and I became a religion teacher, because Shaman King made me discover different faiths and communication between them. I also loved the story with Hororo and Apollo, it taught me how to respect nature and animals. You taught me also how to overcome hate with Tao Ren. Thank you for all those valuable lessons you gave me. Shaman King is a big part of who I am today.
It breaks my heart that he thinks people look down on Shaman King. The series blew my mind as a kid and opened me up to thinking about things so much differently. I have so much love in my heart for Shaman King
I've loved shaman king since I first read it. the art style was always more relatable, and had such a cool vibe to it. i actually found this today because i was looking for some inspiration, and this was perfect. Thank you for making this.
Shaman King getting a new anime for 2021, Hiroyuki sensei We still Stan you and are excited to see your full story adapted for us older fans and the new generation to see this gem of a series!
Shaman king has always been a positive influence on me ever since the very first time I read it. I'm so awed by the art as well he's just a great artist.
As a lot of people here, Shaman King is a huge part in my life. I read the manga every now and then with the same thrill as when I first read it. Watching this video made me want to fly to Japan to meet Takei and give him all my thanks for what he did for me (for us, for the manga world). He's a wonderful mangaka, what he said in the interview is exactly what I feel about his work. For those who didn't know, he gave Shaman King a proper end (not every country published it, sadly), a sequel, "Shaman King Flowers" which are now named "Shaman King The Super Star" cause Takei Sensei left the Jump edition to Kodansha edition and two prequel, Shaman King Zero, a serie of one shots about the main characters and Shaman King Red Crimson. Shaman King The Super Star and Shaman King Red Crimson are prepublished in the Shonen Magazine Edge, every month since 2018. Toutes les infos par là : www.kana.fr/shaman-king-star-edition-extrait-chapitre-1/#.XgIXtfzjKUk And for all the fans, here, the link for the Discord group, if you want to chat with other Shaman King fans all over the world, or just stay up-to-date with news about Shaman King and Takei : discord.gg/Gtax3Zr (On y a un salon en français, pour les fans français qui auraient du mal/peur de s'exprimer en anglais sur un serveur :D)
I still have a complete set of Shaman King in my bookshelf and sometimes i just read it again because it was so good! ahh such a good memories. Thank you for showing the man behind the work. this gives me a lot of insight of how he create his works and his ideology. i really appreciate it.
Thank you very much for this! Hiroyuki Takei has always been my favorite mangaka (mainly because of Shaman King, but I enjoyed his other works as well), but I just now realized I've never really seen him or know much about his career. Although I haven't really been able to get into the sequel series which he has penned after Shaman King, I definitely support his notion that Shaman King deserves more recognition. To me, it is one of the best Jump series, but it certainly does feel like it has become a forgotten classic of sorts. I think his musings on Shaman King and his own position in the world of manga is very interesting. I feel like Shaman King has always floated somewhere between the mainstream and the alternative, especially the further it progressed. Always being somewhat rooted in Shonen characteristics generally and Jump traditions specifically, such as rival characters, tournament structures, battle centric plotlines etc. but also pushing back on those elements and playing around with concepts which seemingly have no place in a Battle Shonen Jump Series. Kind of a dangerous position to be in: best case scenario, it will be able to appeal to different audiences; worst case scenario, it won't appeal to a specific audience hard enough. The latter might be exactly why Shaman King waned in popularity, but those same elements which might have made it hard to stick around in the rankings is also precisely what I loved about Shaman King.
Thanks for your comment! It's hard indeed to stay into fixed patterns but bring something new at the same time - in the end even if the result is not ideal, it's important to respect the creators who take on that challenge.
the philosophy of this manga, shaman king its so relateble for this heart, the journey to find the meaning of life, the struggle to keep tight of principles whatever it takes,,, i love the story, the messege, the characters and the ending,,, i know i learn a lot about the life and how to living,, i feel this manga its the beginning of my journey to find my self and have confidence thats everything will be alright. thx hiroyuki takei sensei 🙏
Really good interview, I loved Shaman King when it came over to Mexico. Ryu ended up becoming my favorite character because of his search for the "best place", and I'm really glad that Hiroyuki talks about the concept in this interview. I hope he keeps going strong and keeps making cool things!
Shaman King was such a large part of my childhood and grew my love of anime exponentially. It made a huge impact on me. Thank you Hiroyuki Takei for creating such a wonderful story and world
I see no reason for Shaman King to be underestimated, it is a type of stylized art, I personally think it is a very good work with a lot of quality, the anime has very colorful art, this type of stylized art pleases fans who know that mangas don't need to be realistic to be good, greetings Hiroyuki Takei!
Shaman King was the first Manga I ever read and I immediately fell in love. It was the only series I would look forward to when I use to get Monthly Shounen Jump Magazines. It was the main thing that inspired me to create my own manga one day... Hiroyuki's work will forever touch my soul and I look forward to all his works
My comment isn't for Hiroyuki Takei but for Archipel. As a professional artist of 7 years now, I wanna say Thank You for the work you do and the effort you put into your craft. Others may or may not have an idea how important it is for artists to have these sorts of places on social media to check in. It may be just ordinary entertainment for most folks, but for me watching things like these gives me hope. It makes me feel validated for my profession which oftentimes gets placed in the lower rungs of society along with the stereotypes of not earning well, fickle industry standards and lots of overwork for little reward. These Archipel videos have kept me company on long nights nowadays when I have to rush deadlines. Hearing about successful artists like Hiroyuki Takei gives me hope in very grim prospects.
He is my childhood. He is my dreams. I loved Shaman King so much back in the day, i ran home after school to not miss an episode. I really miss those days.Thank you for creating a beautiful world that made me use my imaginagition more then i could.
we almost had one but his dumbass turned it down because they couldn't get all the original voice actors. So you have the Creator In This very video to blame as to why we don't have a new shaman King anime
@@avrhamcom because the anime does not follow the manga all the way and comes up with an incredibly lame original ending. From your comment it's pretty obvious you're an anime only guy. Go read. The Manga Has Amazing Stuff past that point and a cool ending
What an amazing and humble guy. I can't understand his frustration and disappointment though. Shaman King was probably the first manga that I encountered way before I started to get into them. Mr Takei I know that you probably won't see this but thank you for your amazing work. Shaman King is a really popular manga in the West and I hope that you can take at least some confrontation from that. Keep up your amazing work. And as always well done for the amazing work Archipel. You are making our days really beautiful with everyone of your uploads
OMG I didn't know all of that... I really love Shaman King and the lessons i learned of it when i was younger. I think Yoh's personallity is one of the best and the development of the story is amazing. Thank you so much! I'll be waiting no matter my age until Shaman King have an end hehehe
he is a legend for me, shaman king is a great manga in every version (the normal one and kanzenban), the way he tells stories in the manga is very unique, the ambiance, the expression, and the drawing itself felt so interesting. shaman king is one of the best manga I read in my elementary phase, and I am so lucky to have stumble upon this manga. wish you all the best hiroyuki takei san
A huge generation of Russian children like me grew up on Shaman king. We love Shaman king very much, even after years I re-read manga with pleasure. This manga made me a responsible and honest person and pushed me to draw. Yoh Asakura my idol for life. Thank you, Hiroyuki Takei! I love you and your manga!
Welcome back (to you and to myself as well). One of your best works and edits. I didn't know they worked together with Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin is one of my favourite mangas and works of art overall) and Eiichiro Oda as a team. But that's make a perfect sense. It's very logical, their works share personal bonds and deep investment of each of them. Thanks to you and Hiroyuki Takei for such an experience and retrospective. Also I shed manly tear when saw that he is Transformers fan as well... Reminds me of my meeting with Frank Klepacki in his office, he hs a huge fan of Transformers as well, there are tons of models in his office on work. Excellent documentary. Keep it up.
I'm Brazilian, and this video makes me cry a little bit... by happiness. I read the entire series, and I was so happy back In the day... because I was more into せいねん manga that time, but Shaman King makes me feel so good and so happy, like I was having a very good chat with my best friends. Ryu and Chocolove are my favourite characters after Yoh and I'm feeling very happy now that I know the meaning of "best place" because is exactly what I feel about it. I just have to say that. For all the time of happiness you provided to my life and the happy time you still keep giving to everybody. Nice work!!!
Incredible documentary; the pacing is really well done. Never read Shaman King myself, only knew he was one of Watsuki's assistants, but you can tell he's a very unique individual even among mangaka. Thank you for your documentaries. Keep going Archipel! You got another subscriber.
As someone who wants to become a mangaka the idea of my series losing popularity and getting cancelled is terrifying. He had to deal with that while being under the pressure of weekly releases and having a family to take care of. This alone deserves respect.
I live in Argentina. My first contact with his work was trough the anime adaptation. And I think is an underrated GEM. I know Shaman Kings isn’t as popular as some other shonen. But who cares. He created and incredibly world, full of very interesting characters, a great story, an amazing mix of cultures and religions... what he made, what he envisioned... it’s outstanding. I bought the manga when a publisher from my country bought the rights. Unfortunately, in the middle of publications he changed publisher so the manga here it’s been in the fridge for two years or so. I had to finish it on internet. Regardless, I HOPE, WISH someday we could have a faithful anime adaptation of the manga and maybe (this is wishful thinking) a movie. I grew up with Shaman King. Thanks for make me believe in your world, Takei.
Shaman King was a great masterpiece indeed! the story, the characters, the twists, the humor all in perfect blending! Thank you very much for showing this to the world that we, had become once part of our lives to read and watch Shaman King, will treasure Yoh Asakura and the rest of the company the most!
I remember getting together with my friends at university, playing the theme song for Shaman King in english and singing along with all our passion, like a bunch of dorks. We had done this multiple times throughout the years as animation students, almost like a ritual during times when we had to pull all-nighters in the library, or getting together after finishing a term. If only he knew just how much this series meant to so many people outside of japan, and the impact it had. I would have never guessed that it wasn't as popular in japan. It's hard to understand why, it was an amazing series, but that's just how things turn out sometimes... In any case, looking forward to his new series and wish him all the best!
I don't know how to reach him but I just want tell him that Shaman King is my favourite piece of art ever created, it's extremely meaningful and often helps me to feel better. I'm so grateful that I could experience the story in my life.
Thank you for this! I really love and appreciate Hiroyuki-sensei work. Shaman King is my favorite manga ever and I'm so happy to watch and hear his words and feelings ~

What a moving piece, your editing gave the author a level of respect and admiration. I can't wait to see what you make the following year, thank you for this amazing interview. :)
Shaman King is the first manga I actively followed and it lit up my interest in manga as a child. My life would not be the same without it. Thank you. I love this piece of art.
My goodness the editing and Music Choice was somehow soothing and unsettling at the same time. It really captured his sense of aimlessness, mild anxiety, and mysterious creativity. Serious props to the editor for using the shots they did and for whoever captured those shots of the office and the role that fit the narration so well. The inclusion of manga panels felt very impactful as well.
I think the reason that Shaman King doesn't get the "respect" that it deserves is because sits on the duality of both mainstream and avantgarde. The plot and world-building may seem like a great set-up for a shonen show but it goes way deeper than that in terms of spirituality. At the same time though, the series would pull some eyebrow-raising moments through its plot beats, which I think alienated some readers. There was also an inconsistent tonal shift midway. This duality of not finding itself in the mainstream and being in the "draw what I wanna draw, don't care about the readers" mentality that Hiroyuki said himself in the video, might be the reason why Shaman King finds itself in an interesting place.
It might be so. I never noticed the change in tone... or I just like manga with tonal shifts. But I agree of Shaman King being avantgarde, I think you really hit the nail there.
I thank you so much for your wonderful work- First Sakamoto then Takei- I'm just so stunned, Shaman King is one of my very oldest most favorite works of art and I have forever been grateful to Takei-sensei for creating it! I'm still a little sad that he decided not to green-lit a re-adaptation in anime-format but I understand his reasoning for doing so and greatly respect how he has always maintained creative control over his work. This interview provided so many insights to me - whether it's how his early parenthood might've shaped Yoh and Anna's relationship, the many accumulated interests of his in his apartment, his early influences including Araki and so forth - Thank you so very much for shining a light on him and creating English subtitles for this interview. The work you guys do is so amazing, thank you for sharing it for free on the internet, so all of us can watch it.
Thank you very much for this video which permit us to better know Takei-sama and his work. Shaman king was the first manga that i read and it made me in love with mangas ever since. I read multiple times shaman king and this manga really influenced my philosophy. All the characters, their stories, their ethnics, their different point of views on life, the way Yoh deals with his own life, his obligations, his hard times, all this journey and those stories constitute such life lessons for me. It is a shame that this masterpiece isnt more popular, it deserves much better, but i think it is because of the fact that SK really breaks shonen codes. I really enjoyed this documentary and it made me so nostalgic. From a french Shaman King fan.
Shaman King was really popular here in Brazil back in the day!!! What a wonderful content you guys from the channel have here, thank you very much for this video

Im watching it on tv as a kid, but unfortunately it stopped middle way but seriously the art is so cool
The ending though
I used the name MARU when I used to go out tagging because of shaman king 👑
I was literally about to say the same thing. Shaman King was one of my favorite anime to watch as a kid. I feel so sad that he thinks it was a huge letdown. I wish I could have hugged him through the screen honestly. He has so much talent!
thank you for representing us so well deserved
Shaman king is beyond underrated. Series literally got me through depression as a youth
Me too. (I mean “me also” not that MeToo).
Honestly these series helped me regain my ability to have faith in myself.

what happened when you reached volume 32?
Me too.
Brought me my life philosophy and helped me keep balance as a child growing up. Could never thank Takei sensei enough for what SK did for me.

How can a short interview go to the depth of a person in 20 minutes ? It's incredible, and masterfully edited. I loved it. Thank you all.
CursedUsername I’ve been praying for a shaman king to redo the anime like hxh 2011 especially the yoh hao it felt very rushed and under budgeted

Thanks for watching, we're also curious to see what's coming next!

You changed my life Hiroyuki Takei, and i wish i could repay the favor to you as well
I hope Takei-sama will see this message

They almost made one but he declined.

Shaman king is very popular in my country, i didnt know it was being looked down by others.
where are u from
Same here, from italy
México here.
French here_was my favorite shonen at 16.
Indonesia too
I feel so bad, Shaman King was one of my favs when i was a kid and made me want to draw more and practice manga. I still come back to it to this day.
Disgustingly underrated manga. Shaman King is fucking incredible
the philosophy of this manga, shaman king its so relateble for this heart, the journey to find the meaning of life, the struggle to keep tight of principles whatever it takes,,, i love the story, the messege, the characters and the ending,,, i know i learn a lot about the life and how to living,, i feel this manga its the beginning of my journey to find my self and have confidence thats everything will be alright.
thx hiroyuki takei sensei 🙏
Really good interview, I loved Shaman King when it came over to Mexico. Ryu ended up becoming my favorite character because of his search for the "best place", and I'm really glad that Hiroyuki talks about the concept in this interview. I hope he keeps going strong and keeps making cool things!
Thank you, the best place is a concept that had resonated with us as well so happy we could hear Takei's thoughts on it!
OK this is probably one of the coolest youtube channels i’ve come across. it’s nice hearing and listening to the artists’ process and knowledge
Thanks for the kind word!

You can really feel the fatigue when he brings up having to a come up with a new ending after being told Shaman King was getting cancelled.
Six years of weekly chapters with close to no interruption, and suddenly having to rethink everything in order to finish at a fixed date :(
My comment isn't for Hiroyuki Takei but for Archipel.
Thanks a lot for the kind word, it means a lot to us to see our work is appreciated. Cheers.
This dude is what lofi would look like if it was a person, chill, playfull, modern yet very nostalgic
He is my childhood. He is my dreams. I loved Shaman King so much back in the day, i ran home after school to not miss an episode. I really miss those days.Thank you for creating a beautiful world that made me use my imaginagition more then i could.
I want to live in a world where Shaman King gets the FMA brohterhood treatment :(
Why though? The anime is pretty awesome
@@avrhamcom it's really not.
we almost had one but his dumbass turned it down because they couldn't get all the original voice actors.
@@DTakeshi93 I respect him for wanting the original voice actors to return.
Thank you for the kind word, it means a lot to us!
Same. Shaman King is quite different from other shōnen manga.

Never read Shaman King myself, only knew he was one of Watsuki's assistants,
but you can tell he's a very unique individual even among mangaka.
Thank you for your documentaries.
Keep going Archipel! You got another subscriber.
Thanks for the kind word, hope you enjoy our other content as well!
Se me hizo nada la entrevista!! Realmente es un mangaka que admiro mucho!! Me encanta su trabajo ❤❤
Shaman King will stay one of my favourite mangas forever. It have some kind of magic that pull me back.
I don't know how to reach him but I just want tell him that Shaman King is my favourite piece of art ever created, it's extremely meaningful and often helps me to feel better. I'm so grateful that I could experience the story in my life.
Shaman king deserves a BIG shout out!! It was my childhood. To bad its really underrated though
Thank you for this! I really love and appreciate Hiroyuki-sensei work. Shaman King is my favorite manga ever and I'm so happy to watch and hear his words and feelings ~
What a humble man. What I love the most is how all the community appreciates him as a mangaka and his work.

I have definetly understood what Mr.Takei meant on 6:35 ! He is sooo chill on this documentary, as well as Yoh was through the whole series ХD
And 9:05 a pilot helmet from Titanfall 2 in the mangaka's of my childhood studio?! Say wooord?
Thank you, Archipel, for theese documentaries. They show beautiful people and beautiful places of Japan:)
Thanks for the kind word!
What a moving piece, your editing gave the author a level of respect and admiration. I can't wait to see what you make the following year, thank you for this amazing interview. :)
Thanks for the kind word!
Thanks for the kind word!
And well the anime wasnt a good adaptation. Suff like HxH blew up cause the 2011 anime
I thank you so much for your wonderful work-
First Sakamoto then Takei- I'm just so stunned, Shaman King is one of my very oldest most favorite works of art and I have forever been grateful to Takei-sensei for creating it!
I'm still a little sad that he decided not to green-lit a re-adaptation in anime-format but I understand his reasoning for doing so and greatly respect how he has always maintained creative control over his work.
This interview provided so many insights to me - whether it's how his early parenthood might've shaped Yoh and Anna's relationship, the many accumulated interests of his in his apartment, his early influences including Araki and so forth -
Thank you so very much for shining a light on him and creating English subtitles for this interview.
The work you guys do is so amazing, thank you for sharing it for free on the internet, so all of us can watch it.
Thanks for the kind word, it means a lot to us!
This man is literally the creator of one of my fondest childhood memories
Thanks for the kind word!
i read more than one thousand comics, but Shaman King is the only bible, learned many things, enhanced my soul/heart, expanded my inspiration, love it.
thanks!! from japan.
