DETAILS:
A dark-colored sedan struck and killed a pedestrian crossing the street on Firestone Blvd.
Witnesses said that the car appeared to be speeding.
The suspect's vehicle eventually stopped after crashing into the center median just East of Woodruff.
Downey PD would not confirm if the fatal accident were a hit-and-run.
Police were still trying to find part of the body at the scene.
The family can be seen crying on the floor.

How are the parts under the car when it's obvious the person they hit went over the hood of the car. If you paid attention you can see the cop marking the body parts with spray paint.
Something l learned in America is pedestrians don’t respect traffic too much drivers don’t mind being intoxicated to drive then judge don’t mind leaving DUI drivers back on the road

You’re right to an extent, the law in CA is ridiculous and encourages walking anywhere. There are reckless drivers all over ÇA speeding drinking driving on their phones etc. There’s no excuse, in the end pedestrians are more vulnerable, drivers shrilled pay attention and be careful while diving on any street. There should bipe heavy fines and jail times for drivers who hit any pedestrian

Cell phones scare me more than drunk drivers. Drivers and pedestrians are all cell phone zombies these days. Unaware of their surroundings beyond 3 feet.
Man, you are so right. I am just out of hospital from a very serious bicycle accident in October 2023, I got hit by a car, and sinc then, I got inside many abulances.
All the drivers were constantly on their phones, just scrolling through image or video things, not even trying to hide it from me or other drivers, stuff for sure not even related to their work… I found this very disrespectful, especially for what bring me there. And it make me think about what the driver that almost killed me was doing, I will never know but I'm sure now.
Its illegal in Scotland to be texting while driving or on the phone unless you have a headset in Scotland.

So the driver got out of the car and ran away? Any description of the suspect? Hopefully there are cctv cameras in the area to identify the driver. If the car isn't stolen there will be a lot of evidence left behind. I.D.s in the glove box. DNA all over the place including the steering wheel, door handles and dna from cups , straws ect.

Pedestrian need to look both ways when crossing a street
If you want to save pedestrians, skateboarders, scooter riders, bicyclist, and motorcyclist, make it the law to wear high visibility fluorescent, reflective safety vest 🦺when on the streets or sidewalks. Motorist are required by law to wear seat belts FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY, the same should be applied to those not BUCKLED into automobiles or trucks. Wake up lawmakers !!! It's just common sense.
