LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - Four people were transported from a major crash near DTLA. A speeding Dodge Charger crashed with a trailer at the intersection of Witmer & Wilshire. The truck dragged the car with the victims stuck inside about 100 yards before coming to a stop. LAPD was a witness and possibly involved per scanner traffic. LAFD freed the trapped victims using the Jaws of Life. The driver was transported with critical injuries, the other three in serious condition.

As someone who had my catalytic converter cut off my truck few years ago, I have no sympathy for those scumbags. The truck driver was the real victim.
And the car.
Let's see .. inanimate object (catalytic converter) VS. human lives .. and we as a society choose the inanimate object (that can be replaced) as what is most important. Yes, having something of ours that has been stolen sucks balls, but if it was me they stole from, I would just want them caught, .. I'd without a heart beat trade my catalytic converter so not to see even a thief suffer in pain.

Well, the real issue is that they chose to drive recklessly and put civilians at risk. 1 second earlier, and the driver of the truck could've been killed. It's surprising that they all managed to get out of the car with their lives, especially the two in the front.
Please send invoices of medical bills & firefighters’ time to them. We (taxpayers) shouldn’t be paying for them.
Now they get a lawyer and a trial! So double it.

My uncle was a truck driver going through Grapevine, and this happened, but with a Volkswagen Beetle, four young people, were deceased, he was never the same

My husband and I were driving a semi and were stopped at a light. We felt an impact to the wheel of our truck then saw a BW bug flying over the car sitting next to us slowly turning upside down. It landed in the center of an intersection and two beautiful young girls were hanging upside down in their seatbelts, dead. I literally became very sick.

Now, the only thing nice about SoCal is the climate. Even then, there are yearly wildfires and until recently, prolonged drought. It's just a pity the way the state has gone. Hubby and I left in 1995. We saw the handwriting on the wall.

I get the frustration but they ARE still human beings. It was a car stolen and a catalytic converter. Not a mom and child being abducted. God miraculously spared there lives for some reason.

My aunts husband ran under a semi, headed back to base when cars were made of much better materials, and he did not survive. These people have someone's prayers following them.

Cars were made of better materials I agree but when it comes to safety the modern cars are much safer with their airbags and crumple zones....having said that I still prefer driving my 1970s ford compared to my daily driver.
I admire the lack of urgency to rescue these arachnids.
I noticed a bit of indifference, too, and no wonder. They knew who they were saving would go back on the same path. It's tough when you join police and fire-EMS, and realize many of those you're saving or apprehending, would steal, shoot, or even kill you if circumstances were different. Tough to be a decent human when those you're dealing with are not.

All they had to do was pull over for a traffic stop. They chose to run rather than accept responsibility for their actions. If I were the judge, 15-25 depending on previous record. No parole and would pay full restitution, so the owners and general public’s rates would not go up. They would also pay for truck damages.

Yeah, even on our rural roads out here, with steeply winding curves and hills, people STILL drive like they're on a racetrack! And those of us who try to drive responsibly are always in danger of being creamed by these idiots.
My Dad was a semi truck driver and loved his job. One day an intoxicated lady hit him head on, not knowing how bad he was hurt due to shock, he managed to get out and tend to her and removed her from the car....she died instantly and my dad was off work for 9 months recuperating with a life long back injury. My dad never wanted to talk about it so we didn't...due to her stupidity she lost her life and injured another. Some people never learn or end up learning the hard way....😢

@@Kiki-Kauai In Australia/NZ, Europe all semi trailers must have underrun/lateral protection devices on the sides and rear to prevent this.

@@Kiki-KauaiThere's a thing about the lateral protection devices though: These became a thing in The Netherlands first if I remember it right, as we have a lot of cyclists. Cyclists waiting in the right-hand side blind spot of a lorry/hgv/truck/whatever you call it would get crushed under the vehicle when that vehicle would make a right turn (just for extra clarity: this is mainly a thing when cyclists do not have a separated cycling path and have to align right next to motorised traffic).
Even though every kid gets learned to never wait in the blind spot or pass a lorry on the right as a pedestrian or while on a bicycle (and thus preferably also never while in a car), it still does happen (and it's usually stubborn adults who think they can win from a lorry). Where in the past people would be driven over, the lateral protection devices push them to the side first. Ofcourse this does not prevent severe injury or worse, but it does significantly lowers the chance of a cyclist being driven over and dying as a result.
I think they were introduced in 1998 or so. Blind-spot mirrors were made mandatory in 2000 or so: there's a video from an American truckdriver who either sits in a European truck (with all the extra mirrors) or plays a simulator game and is absolutely surprised about everything he can see and doesn't understand why he does not have those mirrors in the USA.
Blind spot mirrors are at the front and right of the truck and I can remember that especially the front one (where especially little kids can be hidden from view) was seen as a 'ridiculisation' of the job when it was introduced, but many drivers quickly started to appreciate it, as they got such a clear view from what was going on right in front of their machine.
I doubt that the lateral protection devices would have done something in this case, but it could very well have resulted in a deflection of the car instead of a drive-under.
