Everytime I put the cover back on put all the screws back on thinking the fault was obvious and it's bound to work there's something left out or lamp is not driving etc etc. Good work by Frank once again.
Normally I do test them before I put the cover on. all those years of repairing stereos and VCRs and the like. I felt I was OK in this case though and luckily I got away with it this time. I wont lie though. I had some anxiety about it and wont do that again.
Hi man. Thx for help. I change the lamp modul because or burned one. Instead of changing it the red light is always on like lamp default and the ventilation not working. ... sad day.
Sad day indeed! If the old lamp blew up or cracked, check for glass inside the blower fan near the lamp. They will jam very easily and throw a ventilator error
@FixitFrank cracked. During à film we heard a big splashing like the lamp completely broken I open the projector to verify and extract lamp pieces everywhere. I will try what you said. Thanks for your answer. I wish u the best for this new year! I will let u know!
I don't think so. But don't quote me because I have not done the hidden menu reset on this model. Just the normal lamp hour reset. It is possible as I know I have seen it on other models.
Awesomely repaired and cleaned Frank! For some reason I do not like Optomas that much. Especially their colour wheels. Might be just me, but........!!!!!!
Some folks have a hard time with the rotating color wheel. I dont see it myself but I know a few people who do. I prefer BenQ in the real world and Sim2 3DLP in my fantasy world. I used to have a Sanyo LCD that was nice (PLV-Z4) but the polarizers went.
Its my dream to someday own a real 3 dlp sim2. I have a D60 that says it needs repairing but the damn thing keeps working. It is supposed to have that half image issue that the BenQ W5000 gets. But I cant get it to act up yet. Im hoping that I can get my hands on a Sim2 C3X with a bad power supply. Dreams!!!
Hi Frank, I have an optoma dh401 but looks exactly the same. I had the same issue with the cable fused after lamp replacement. I wonder where I can order the cable you mentioned? I don't want to order a wrong one and burn my house down.
Burning your house down would definitely not be a preferred result. I'd reach out to the folks I use in China. Time electronics. They work with e-recyclers who can get you that cable. Its virtually impossible to buy new, but any working used cable is just fine. Their contact info is gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com let them know I referred you. I think they will be your best option. Let them know what lamp you have and possibly send them a picture, or worse case, email them and CC me(email is on about page).
Mr. Fix-it-Frank, I have an Optoma UHD50x that's telling me to clean the dust filter. Everything still works but I don't want to push it, but I can't find anything online about where the dust filter is located and how to get to it. Ideas?
I think I can help. You don't have a dust filter on yours. They do sell them with filters in more dusty parts of the world(middle east etc) but everywhere else there is no filter. Most likely you have a fan that is acting up and the projector sees that as a clogged filter. try this. Press these buttons in rapid succession for the service menu [power,up,right,up,left, menu] you should get another screen that shows you errors and fan speeds. I think you will notice one of the fans with a fluctuating speed (maybe even a recorded error). The fan might have dust stuck to it or the bearings could be failing. I'm speculating on the specifics but I am sure the error is being generated because of either a fan problem or dust build up internally.
@@FixitFrank Frank, you are correct, thank you!!! The UHD50x doesn't have a filter, so I cleaned the dust off fans, took air and blew out all the dust, and even added a drop of the propper oil lubricant to the fan shafts, and no more "Clean dust filter" appeared on my screen! YOU DA MAN!
Is it normal for the projector to get very hot? I have the same model. After about 40 min of use, I can't hold my hand for a long time on this place where the lamp is.
These do get VERY hot around the lamp area. It is normal though. Exhaust air can be almost 100c. fortunately there is a thermal breaker and it will open if the fan detects air over 95c internally. One thing to check is the lamp. if you replaced it with a non oem(that is totally fine) some of them use the wrong IR cut glass on the front and that will cause more heat to be introduced. the lamp housing should have a reddish/blueish/purpleish tint to the glass. If so, that is good. if it is greenish or clear, that is bad.
Hi Frank, what a great video, thanks a million. Just opened my projector to see the very thing having happened. I recently replaced the bulb and guess I must have done it wrong... I see that you used a harvested part as a replacement. As I do not have another Optoma laying around, I am wondering if you have a suggestion on how to go about obtaining one. I called Optoma and they said to send them a picture of the part, so I am going to go and remove it and try that, but he said it's not a guarantee. Theoretically, it's just two wires that need to connect isn't it? Is there anything to watch out for if I try to go the MacGyver route and improvise this connection?
I have a contact in china who you can buy them from or if you are in the USA I have a few if you want to email me. They can be spliced in pretty easily. You want to shrink tube the splice since it handles high voltage on startup.
Wasn't there supposed to be an air filter somewhere on this machine..? I think who ever took it apart didn't put it back. It would explain how dirty it was...
You'd think so but believe it or not no! Around 2012, most DLP companies stopped putting filters in most of their models to save money and actually cut down on RMAs. People would never clean the filters and they would clog and overheat. The companies determined that using larger openings would move most dust through without issue. This was after they "sealed" the optics (not 100% effective). There are some markets where they do still include filters. They tend to be markets with a lot more heat and dust like the middle east for instance. Most European and US sold DLP projectors are sold without filters these days. You'd be surprised how much dust can build up. It gets worse when things like endust are used. they act as glue and that dust just builds right up. Great question !
Thanks brother. I should talk to you about maybe starting a forum for repairs. I liked reddit and all but I just dont have the free time to dedicate to multiple platforms. I wish I did. I know for a fact, that a lot of referrals come from you. Thank you.

I think it is" Power-Up-Right-Up-Left-Menu(on the projector, not the remote).

I like how Optoma design the off board devices all plug in at the same spot. But as the lamp wire, I think Epson's design was better.
Me too. I like how they stack it like that.
