Matt, the reason it was behaving weird on minmus at 46:45 was that it auto trimmed the controls. It’s the most annoying thing in the world, you have to go into settings and disable trim. Trust me I spent years struggling because of that stupid thing, it makes you only be able to turn in one direction.
ME TOO! Years went by, Great for SSTO’s and Submarine but its turned on as default for some reason. I believe its L1 + L3 to turn it on and off but yeah, turn it off in the settings. Also you can quick jump if you can manage to get your curser over your blue orbit and select warp here. You can ALSO Adjust your curser sensitivity. Good comment Seth.
It’s the most infuriating thing in the world because it only messes up your manual control, it doesn’t actually hold an inclination or anything useful like that
"I was a younger person when I began that journey" reminds me of a rescue mission I did in orbit of Jool that took more than 100 in-game years of time warp just to rendevouz with the rescue craft
To fix rocket spinning you need to reset the trim. You can see if this is active on the staging screen in bottom left so you can see the roll/pitch/yaw sliders, they’ll have a 2nd slider on whichever one has trim set. To reset: ***L1+LS*** To quickly perform science experiments: set the experiments all to an action group when building. Set the SciJr and Goo unit to a 2nd group as they take longer to perform- seems to work better. Then instead of using cursor mode to save the experiments, exit cursor mode and press ***X*** on the recovery/transmit screen to recover for each one. Pro-tip: there is a 2nd radial menu for SAS options, but I can’t remember what it is! I think you hold L1 when opening the normal radial menu to bring up all SAS presets
When editing things like thrust limiter and the altitude when parachutes opens your can press the # in the orange bar the top to type a number instead of dragging the slider
Do never turn R3 while pressing L1. It will lock the last direction the joystick is poinint when L1 release. This is why your vessel started spinning on minmus. Fix it by pressing L1+R3
I was going to say, "Is there anything on the PS that might be locking your joystick input or do you need to recalibrate PS joysticks?" I don't own one so glad to see there was a rational answer (aka not Kraken).
It took me forever to realise you can disable trim controls on console version in the settings, stupid idea to have trim set to L1 because every time you use precision throttle adjustment whilst maneuvering (launch and landing!) it messes up your trim. Has caused the lost lives of many a mint green cosmonaut!
Dozens and dozens of attemps and i still struggle to land on the Mun. I can orbit Kerbin, transfer to Mun Orbit. Orbit clean. But 1 of 2 issues always happens. I appreciate this series because normally you are amazing, and seeing you struggle with console makes me feel like any success on console at all is noteworthy.
Try to set your PS4 to Boost Mode (since you have a PS4 Pro). It helped my performance a bit while playing KSP. I forget how to do it though, so you might have to look it up.
Bout a year or two ago, i made my second (or first) ever landing on a moon/planet, and it was on minmus. I was in a huge pickle since it was almost impossible to slow down with what i had; but with a accidentally well-timed time warp and decouple, i somehow caught myself in an invincibility glitch. No crashing into the ground could hurt me anymore (and i tried everything to revert this because i felt like i was cheating). After a reinstallation and deletion of things without thinking, it was reverted. And that was the story of my only encounter with the kraken. Also, yes i know, "pics or it didn't happen," but i thought this would be a nice starting point to mention other stories. (Plus i was better off without the glitch)
Click the “share” button on the controller and then select “save video” when the drop menu shows up. Should be the square button, triangle for a snapshot. The PS4 records one hour and only one hour when you click the share button.
Mr Matt Lowne I have watched every one of your videos and always love the commentary and wonderful gameplay. It always puts a smile on my face. Thank you for creating beauty in this horrible and strange world.
Quick tip for building. L1 makes the cursor move slower giving you accuracy and you can use your triangle button for the radial menu with symmetry and angle snap etc
Finally. As someone who started KSP on console I’m very pleased with this series. I have then moved on to PC, but I miss controlling my planes/rocket with a DualShock.
Just remembered the time when I was playing ksp with broken left hand on my crapy laptop. It was hard and fun at the same time, especially when I was trying to connect old TV as third monitor and then dock two parts of space station which were always possessed by kraken because I didn't know about autostrut
I literally always been wanting to play ksp for the first time and so I cleaned the living room with my parents and I don't know how much I'm getting pacifically but I know I'll have enough to get KSP and I hope everyone has a good day
Hmm that not being able to steer, I had that problem too. Until I realized I must have hit a button while tilting the stick, and in the process trimmed the axis. This sets the default position of the stick to a new point and screws up steering 🙈
Lowne, if you hold down L1 or R1, I cant remember which, it changes the cursor to fine-movement mode in the VAB. It also works with the movement tools.
Just did my first fully functional Duna landing and takeoff today. I had previously managed to retrieve a vessel, but it needed a rescue mission and a probe lander
On the subject of boarding capsules you may want to try holding the button to enter for a half second. Not sure about PS but on Xbox there is a difference between pressing and holding the button.
I also had this problem with the random rotation of the rocket, but I found an easy way to fix it after the disaster and turn the rocket back, just turn on the radial out
even though ksp2 is out, I seem too enjoy watching this British dude who causally drives his bike, switched from alcoholism to baked beanism and somehow ended on controlled because of a hand problem. *I feel you bro*
I've had the problem you had with SAS on PC. On PC if you accidentally press alt while pressing wasd, it sets a trim to the rocket, so it will automatically add some amount of roll/pitch/yaw separate to whatever you input. I don't know how to reset it on console, but if that ever happens to you on PC, you can press alt+x
I don't know for sure, but the cooling base may be blowing into the fan output of the console. It's a good idea to try it without the extra cooler to see if that helps.
Also matt at the one hour mark when you were controlling your ship you may have accidentally turned the trim on by holding L1 (or maybe R1 i forget) and moving the joystick which causes the spacecraft to automatically roll or pitch or whatever and you cant fight it you have to disable it by holding L1 and clicking R3 or something like that
I’ve done flybys of Minmus, but for some reason I can’t capture the orbit since I’m trying to get satellites around every moon and planet so that at a later date I have the ability to get kerbals landed on every moon and planet since I’ll have knowledge to do so. I already have people on the Mun and a satellite around Kerbin and the Mun, but I keep getting shot out of orbit when attempting to do a capture of Minmus.
So glad you stopped using the trackpad Matt. Well done persevering with the controller. I have never played Kerbal anywhere bar PS4 Pro, but I can remember the frustration trying to learn the controls. One thing you mentioned about not being able to get an EVA Kerbal back into the ship. Definitely because you have
In case you don't know, I think SAS is circle button on Playstation or B on Xbox. Rcs is also lb and circle or B. I also don't know why the controls go wierd.
1:09:20 and all other times that the controls have been whack like that, you may have reset the trim. Switch out of the manoeuvre mode and back to the flight mode and check to see if there are any pink markers on your pitch, yaw and roll displays. If there are, hold rb and lb (the ones to switch to map view) and press 'A' on xbox or 'x' on playstation
When you left minmus surface you were pressing up but nothing was changing the same thing happened to me, I initially taught it was my joystick drifting, but then i found it was the SAS the problem
I haven't been playing long. Only learned of KSP when Real Civil Engineer played in 2020. I heard horror stories about control interface on console before purchase. Your videos were some of the videos that proved it. PC always looked way easier. Also cool channel Matt. Watching your "not tutorials" were the exact tutorials I like, leave the particulars up to me. I like that. Thanks for your videos. You usually cut and paste. I just found how like last week. On Xbox it's hold x and push a. Just a guess but Playstation maybe hold "square" and push "X". Maybe some Playstaion people can tell you, as I'm on Xbox and don't know for sure.
43:20 when you press LB and then move The left joystick (you may have accidentally moved the joystick while zooming in on the craft at a time) it will save that movement and when SAS isn’t engaged it will recreate that position of the joystick. To solve the problem: when you have accidentally saved the position just press LB and the press push the joystick in till it does a moves in then let go and it will delete the saved position. Hope it was helpful:)
43:44 i know that Problem too its a bugg when you go out and sas is out then it will turn until its destroyed or the elektrik is out so you need to disabel the elektrik so your sas is not working and then you can go out but if you go inside then first turn on sas and then turn on the elektrik so its not Turning its a very bad bugg and if yiu restarrt the game or start a New career then it can happend that this bugg will not come again.

Switch out of the manoeuvre mode and back to the flight mode and check to see if there are any pink markers on your pitch, yaw and roll displays. If there are, hold rb and lb (the ones to switch to map view) and press 'A' on xbox or 'x' on playstation
Matt: "OH ITS SO DIFFICULT"
also matt 2 seconds later: "im an absolute pro!"
56:12
Oh dear, you've summoned the spirit of Danny2462!
Mint Master Mayhem 7 for the rockets name
When you left minmus surface you were pressing up but nothing was changing
the same thing happened to me, I initially taught it was my joystick drifting, but then i found it was the SAS the problem
56:11 is when bob spaghettis if you were looking for it
43:20 when you press LB and then move The left joystick (you may have accidentally moved the joystick while zooming in on the craft at a time) it will save that movement and when SAS isn’t engaged it will recreate that position of the joystick. To solve the problem: when you have accidentally saved the position just press LB and the press push the joystick in till it does a moves in then let go and it will delete the saved position. Hope it was helpful:)
14:13 "to save the solar bears"
43:22 it’s called trim it’s really annoying there is a button to reset it but I play on Xbox so idk what button it is on PlayStation
Potato Aerospace should have named that rocket "Spudnick"
43:44 i know that Problem too its a bugg when you go out and sas is out then it will turn until its destroyed or the elektrik is out so you need to disabel the elektrik so your sas is not working and then you can go out but if you go inside then first turn on sas and then turn on the elektrik so its not Turning its a very bad bugg and if yiu restarrt the game or start a New career then it can happend that this bugg will not come again.
38:10 Matt you don't want to say 'Boom' when landing. Trust me, it's a bad idea.
Wow is cool the first minmus landight increleble
I’ve got a bad sore throat from my allergies, and just hearing people talk without immense pain makes me jealous
tip: If you hold square and X at the same time you can duplicate parts :)
the thumbnail is pure fear on his face
This is so much fun to watch
