Please bear with me, I am not used to controllers, especially when I have a giant plastic splint over my right hand :(
Would it be better to use the stick rather than the touchpad or is that not possible?
As somebody who has over 800 hours in Console version (and many more on PC) its really tricky, and painful.
NO Problem Matt love the vids
...
Hey Matt it is possible to use a keyboard and mouse if that's easier for you. But if you want to keep the feel on the console you can keep using the controller
“Don’t tell Scott” I love this please don’t stop love commentary.
"love commentary" ahem lmao
Ah good old love commentary
you mean live on a keyboard there next to eachother
Here's some advice, - Please be warned, this is an essay
The general rule of thumb for fine adjustments and stuff is holding L1 while using whatever you want to do, this also works with the cursor if you don't want it flying all over the place, it's very useful when trying to do science during flight.
The staging with parachutes does work, however you cannot stage while the cursor is active, this is why you couldn't deploy them, so just get rid of the cursor for a second and then it works like a normal stage.
Rotating parts in the VAB is always a pain on console, however as you discovered, using L1 rotates it on the other axis which is why it was so difficult to get it to go the right way.
The glitch with the VAB having a different look is unfortunately common on consoles, normally its easily fixed by just returning to the start up menu and then going straight back into the science save, however if that doesn't work then restart the game.
During short flights where you need to use science, I would recommend getting the pop up menu of the science module then pressing the pin in the top right of the menu, then hold and drag the orange bar to move it. I normally get all the science things up before flight because pinning them allows you to get out as many as can fit on the screen at the same time and you don't need to worry about quickly finding and trying to press on the smaller ones, especially useful during re-entry when you can't even see it.
I don't know if you figured this out or not, but to delete parts in the VAB just drag it back over to the part selection and click on the empty space and it deletes.
The part where you couldn't switch from the SPH to the VAB was happening (at least I think this is the reason) because you were holding a part with the cursor at the time, so just put the part back and you can switch.
You were using time warp the difficult way, I'd recommend not using the 'weapon wheel' to activate it. You just need to hover the cursor over the top left and it automatically pops down and you can press on the speed you want with the cursor, it's a lot simpler and a lot less buggy.
I do not know why you were having problems getting the kerbal back into the module, but I'd just make sure that your cursor isn't active and just wiggle him up and down the ladder a bit and that might work.
The low FPS while in space is extremely unusual (at least to me it is). I play it on a series X now so mine rarely has any FPS drops, but for the 3 years I was playing on just the standard Xbox One, I still never had anything like you had, my only guess is that this was happening because you had recording software up at the same time, although that's only a guess and I have no clue why it was so utterly rubbish.
You weren't completely right in saying the console edition controls and features are rubbish. Almost every feature on PC is on console, at least that I know of, many many features are used by pressing more than one button at a time rather then just the single one (such as using L1 and right stick to have to zoom in). I've followed PC tutorials this whole time and it almost always works exactly as it should on console, the only difficult thing is finding the right button combinations to do it.
Here's just a few more tips, sorry about how bloody long this comment is to anyone reading
You can duplicate parts in the VAB by holding down square then tapping X on a part or section to duplicate (this doesn't work on the main root part which is normally the command module).
To use roll, use L2 and R2, you may have figured this out already but for me it took about a year.
I don't play on PS4 so I this advice may be stupid, if so then just ignore this bit. But using the track pad for the cursor just seems a bit too much to me, using the left stick seems a lot quicker, and at the same time make sure to use L1 at the same time to make the cursor move slower, this makes it wayyyy easier, this also works while in flight.
That should be it for my advice, and holy cow I just looked and I've written an essay.
Even if Matt hasn't seen this, I hope I've helped someone who is also experiencing large amounts of pain from trying to get their head around this game.
Feel free to ask any questions, it's sad how much I play this game, but I am by no means a pro so no promises that I'll know the answer to anything.
Again, I am extremely sorry for how long this is, and this is 30 minutes of my life I will never get back :(
Played 2 years on base ps4, also never had any of these issues. On ps5 now the game feels almost new. Thanks for reminding me how to duplicate, I was struggling with that
I hope Matt reads this. then its 30 minutes well spent.
I thought I was the only person that plays on series x but I'm not alone
@@socthebean that's an essay
Just as note, if you are on mobile then most keyboard support voice typing so you can use that to write long paragraphs
The hint of panic I Matt's voice when he couldn't initially find the quicksave function nearly killed me.
This is so painful. My condolences to all KSP console players out there and their beloved ones.
It’s honestly not that bad when you know what your doing and I’ve never seen those glitches and frame drops on Xbox
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Ive also never seen bugs and shit like that on a ps4 pro
Yeah, I play consle a bit slow but other than that it's good. He just played a lot of PC so hes used to that.
Making any type of plane on console is impossible

So funny. The learning curve on this game for me was so hard, and to see an experienced pc player struggle was kinda heartening :) I actually think they have done a fantastic job on the controls, porting to console from a game designed for PC is a challenge in itself, let alone something this complex. Any of you fellow PS4 players had issues with controls in space? Occasionally I get an odd bug where trying to change attitude goes weird, i.e everything turns to the right. Anyone had this?

As a console player myself, this is by far the best Kerbal video you have ever made! I was laughing out loud with tears in my eyes at one point. Hilarious!! I play on just a normal ps4 and mine runs waaaay smoother than this! And yes I was shouting at the screen saying “use the DPad” and also R1 and up and down to raise and lower camera in the VAB. Thoroughly enjoyed that video, well done! Tomato Farmers Represent!
This was seriously painful, but I stuck with it in the spirit of solidarity.
I recently found you after atempting playing ksp after a 8ish year hiatus. back then all I did was make planes, so space was new to me, and with the help of matt lowne I have landed on the mun! I have attemped landing on layth and eve but have burnt up in the atmospheres (duna was easy). I will not give up! Whatever content you put out, I will watch

Welcome to our pain, I learnt how to play Enhanced through your tutorials
I’ve never touched a gaming pc, I feel your pain. I know your pain.
tbh i really love the controls on the ps4 ksp edition
I have no pain bc I play the game on ps4 i like it better
@@SkyHigh_xx same, only real downside is no mouse. There are the same amount of buttons to press so neither are more complicated, they're both just really hard to learn in their own ways
Luckily I have x box edition and pc version
This was amazing. I did this in reverse starting with console then going to PC. It was much easier to going to PC. One thing you need to remember is to turn off the mouse feature whenever not using it. It can prevent you from your pitch/yaw/roll controls, staging, and the boarding for Kerbals. Also, clicking on the item area while having a vehicle section selected will delete it.
What helps me on console is actions groups and the science container. Have an action group for your expiriments and also have one for the container to "collect All" and you can then redo your expiriments without an EVA. And you just need to "restore" the goo and jr.
Btw you can put the container om top of the capsule and it dosent do much.
And when you are doing action groups mid-fligth your game Play goes in slowmotion.
Hope i could help :)
My god... I’ve been waiting for this for so long!!! I’ve been playing on console for so long it’s very annoying at times
At last the great suffering has arrived, this shall be a fine addition to my torture collection. Enjoy yourself Matt the cast around your arm will not affect any gameplay trust me
One more tip. It’s a lot easier to select the right thing if you zoom in much further than you’re doing in this video. If Jeb’s helmet is filling half the screen, there’s no difficulty in clicking on it.
This reminded me a bit of my dad when he tried to play on a Playstation for the first time of his life. This is the first time i'm missing a facecam in your videos. Tomato Farmers represent.
So happy with the chocolates you sent. Thanks, Matt!
Just in time for Easter

An hour of Matt being confused and suffering
I've wanted this for ages. I can only play on console, and the struggle is real. It is so hard to play.
Personally, I really like the live commentary. I like seeing the process of you learning what we have to deal with. Please keep doing this.
This is somehow one of my favorite of your vids. It’s not that I enjoy your struggles, it’s your response to it. I spat my coffee out when it loaded your vehicle at a random 40degree angle. Welcome to console KSP. I’ve been on a mission to Laythe for like a month. The game keeps glitching and deleting my encounters entirely.
Matt: "Okay Google"
*My Google Nest Screaming*: I'm sorry I don't know that!
Mine did the same haha
Imagine if his girlfriend was called Alexa
8 months ago I got this game and learnt how to play it from your tutorials, I’ve now got platinum on the game and having fun watching you try and figure out console mode
Those Kerbin and Mun textures make me feel nostalgic
Im tired of them lo rez textures
I am glad to have stumbled upon this video. I started playing KSP on PS4 in June of 2019, and I pretty much learned the ropes by watching your tutorials for the PC version.
I literally felt every bit of your frustration in this video, because that was once me. I played it for a few months, lost my career save due to file corruption, and didn't touch it for maybe a year. When I came back, and found my bearings, I made a massive expedition to build a space station around Jool (inspired by your own videos), but ultimately suffered the same file corruption and quit a second time.
Recently, I picked it up again, and after cleaning up some loose ends in the Jool system, and returning home from Eeloo, I only had one thing left to tackle ... land, and return from Moho. That was a lot harder than I thought, despite you making it look so easy, but I am finally (at long last) in possession of the platinum trophy for this game.
As frustrating as this game is on console, it's simultaneously been some of the most rewarding gaming of my life, and I have been gaming for 45 years. While I don't necessarily take joy in you struggling through this (ok maybe I did a bit), I am satisfied that you at least now understand our plight.
I do actually have to thank you Matt, I play on console and the only reason I have ever done interplanetary missions was because of your tutorials. I just did my first Gilly mission yesterday and am now thinking about Ike!
Did you ever get to ike?
Matt to activate staging on console you need to press the right stick to remove the cursor, then press A or X depending on what console your on. In your case X. Having the cursor on screen is useful for precision buttons but it acts as essentially a "tabbed out" version of the game. This is why certain controls dont work when the cursor is active.
I like the live commentary for this, it's quite amusing to listen to you struggle and be confused!
To be honest with you, seeing someone who is so knowledgeable and quite skilled at the game bumble around like this is honestly really quite entertaining, Im glad you chose to do this! You don't need to apologize for learning something new, I appreciate that you broke your hand and you're still bringing out content.
These kinds of videos where you just ramble on while you play the game, like your theme park build, are really nice to listen to.
If you can deal with it, I would like you to continue this series.
The first flight makes me feel so much better about my own failures on KSP PS4. Waiting to see you try and do a docking manuver, I still haven’t managed that.

Yes!!! I've only ever played on console and you FINALLY feel our pain!!!!!!!! Loading times, using the joysticks, lag, Kraken attacks, and so much more! PS: you can timewarp in cursor mode by moving the cursor to the top left and clicking different warp speeds. Also I find it easier to fly in non-cursor mode, and choose SAS directions etc. via the popup menus. The reason your staging and other flight controls weren't working was because you were in cursor mode, you have to disable the cursor in order to use flight controls (throttle, attitude, staging, etc.). And you can trash stuff in the VAB by selecting it with the cursor and placing it in the parts menu on the left side. TOMATO FARMERS REPRESENT

A few console tips:
1. Scrolling up and down in the vehicle assembly building is Right trigger + analogue stick
2. If you mouse over the MET in the top left corner, you can click the time warp arrows to time warp. It’s manual and a bit difficult.
3. You can only stage when your not in curser mode
4. Check controls in settings dummy

I actually enjoyed seeing this approach - on the console/unedited footage, you make the same kind of mistakes I make on the PC (like flipping the rocket too far over so it spins out of control, necessitating a 'revert to launch'). I'm sure on the PC, you've played it enough to know how not to do that (or cut it from the footage if/when it happens), but it makes me feel like I can maybe eventually get to your skill level if I play long enough. I’ve since moved to PC, but I have to say I’ve missed having a control stick, especially for in atmosphere flying.
PS it’s “circle” to board the craft, it’s actually listed on the screen. Good luck!
Hold L1 for better control. Also, you could not stage because you were in the Cursor mode. Hold L1 and Throttle to slight throttle.

Console edition isn’t nearly as bad as it may sound listening to this video. Once you learn the controls it’s much easier. The game is very good considering it wasn’t made for Xbox originally.
100%
@Proxima Centauri half of that is down to the inherit difficulty of KSP and half to do with the attention span of the typical console gamer. Given that games like Call of Duty are incredibly prevalent on consoles, and more complex games seldom do well it doesn't take a genius to see the reason those statistics are so skewed.
I loved this video! Matt his human after all and not some KSP robot build by some cheeky Brit! I am going to get back on the Xbox when I get off work and get some more science! You're already farther than me and I've got about 3 hrs on console so far.
