Another aspect of it is that you need to be able to accommodate starting power. The bigger battery can take the start and the run

Are they H/O batteries? And hey a trick I learned is that you can get a 12V car battery and as long as you know the contact points on the battery’s (M-12’s) (Positive/Negative) terminals take 2 bulk wires from your shop and give your M batteries a quick kiss of juice from holding the wires attached to the + - of the car battery, this works on the M18 as well and this is done when you put the Ms on the charger and you get the blinking red/green warning lights. It jumps them back to good!

Did you end up getting a new one? Should I pull the trigger a year after the issue should be fixed by now.

I posted a new video. It does seem that they are trying to address the issue.

Absolutely love the vacuum. I believe the thermal shutdown is a design flaw that they ALL have even though some don’t experience it. Having used it about 10 days at work I’ve learned how to manage the issue to the point it works great but that limit is always there. None but the 6ah batteries are sufficient to power this vacuum on top of that seems to be issues with the connection of the thermal tab on ALL xc batteries. That issue does not exist with the smaller batteries but this thing will eat the small batteries and fast they will fail prematurely using this tool. Haven’t returned it yet as Milwaukee reached out for more info and I also submitted a complaint through the website although they haven’t responded in over a week kinda interested to hear what they say the problem is. Overall it’s a great vacuum leagues above the similarly priced Dewalt the problem is the dewalt works and this doesn’t pretty disappointed I want to keep it so bad but fairly certain it will be a return if Milwaukee wants me to Mail it in and wait I don’t want to be stuck waiting for the same defective tool. Great video by the way very thorough I subbed.

Yeh, I like it too. Plenty of power and blower function. The main problem I see is that it does not even work properly on low with my 3AH battery and is unreliable with my 4.0XC. It should be able to get 10-15 minutes of runtime on low with the 3.0 battery. And for quick spot cleans,

@@RoomForTools I've gotten 10 minutes 40 second on a 4 amp but only if I sit it on a bench and don't use it lol. Anything else and it will thermal shutdown even with minimal load on the motor. Milwaukee reps reached out and I took video of every problem I found they say they have a unit that has been tested and works 100% that they will be sending me so we will see hopefully they can figure it out if not for all the problems it would be the best vacuum in this price range. I agree should at least function with all batteries at least for light work.

@@RoomForTools reach out to Milwaukee they fixed all the issues. Now that it’s all worked out seriously my favorite vacuum. Milwaukee product manager basically on top of any complaints you might have read and they fixed them I’m impressed.

So what was the issue? How did they fix it? Milwaukee was pretty good at replying to me, asking to describe the problem thoroughly, which I did. Though communication dropped off over the New Year weekend and I returned it just the other day. I quite liked it as well, and would run out and get another if I knew what the issue was.

Batteries are tuned for either best capacity density or best current density - the 3.0 to fit 50% more in the same volume almost *has* to have less current capability, and that's what you're seeing. You're at the limit of the cells and the Voltage drop is excessive for the application. Interesting that you had it happen on a slightly discharged 4.0 - you'd think that'd mean it'd happen on a fresh one, too, after a minute or so. Maybe you're not representing the amount of juice used accurately when you trust the number of LEDs showing. My 2c. PS, upper right, are those Erem pliers/cutters? I have some, too :-D The man has good taste, and a pocket of cash :-D

At 50% extra capacity it won't be a subtle difference under load, it'll be significant :-D Tis the nature of the way batteries are built. More layers to get more capacity means thinner layers and higher internal resistance and less current capability.

Also, I see NT Cutter in the middle, those are not pricey, but ARE the best :-D Been using NT Cutter knives for 20+ years :-)

Erem.... got a bunch cheap from Epstein years back! Yeh, definitely the non XC cells will be stressed harder as they are not paralleled up, and the 2.0 which I did not have issues with might have a higher C-rate than the new fangled 3.0. Capacity does come with compromise. Nonetheless... the problem cropped up on the low setting that suggests some other sort of issue.

It's frustrating trying to explain batteries to people hey. So many reviews of high demand tools on youtube with the most basic 1P configuration packs. I am in the process of building a 3S3P M12 pack using Molicel P26A cells, 8.0Ah capacity and 105A continuous discharge. I'm also making a little 3 cell 2.0Ah pack with Samsung 20S cells, 35A continuous discharge should be great for upping power and keeping things light and compact.

I love and hate this vacuum I've had it for a few months now it came with the 6ah battery. nice to use but for the life of me i don't know why they put a floor attachments instead of a brush. I had to buy a brush. This thing absolutely destroys my 6ah batteries. Dont even think about running it on high you will get 5mins out of a 6ah battery. Only reason i have not returned it was i bought it for $149 at the Home Depot and it came with charger and 6ah battery. And at 119 for a 6ah battery ill deal with it. Was going to buy the Ryobi 3gal cordless vac for $99 and just use one of my Makita to Ryobi battery adapters on it to use my Makita batteries. Might still do that
