That is one hell of a good review! Yes it’s loud, but that is what this size tools are, especially vacs. I vacuum with ear protection anyways since I hate the loud sound, so no matter here. It’s a shop tool, and this one seems like a nice addition to my M12 collection 🙂
IMHO all modern vacuums that use a hopper need to be emptied and maintained a lot. I have a hoover pet hair rated machine that the Wife was complaining about, I looked at it. Hopper was full and there was a 2 foot human/dog hair dreadlock stuck in the brushes and plugging up the works. Cleaned it out, works great. Dump it after every use, just get used to it.
Doc - that video is exactly what I needed; thank you! I'm going to buy one. Improve my quality of life in the garage, house, and especially the van. BTW, I caught up on a few of your videos last night. The torch video, in particular, was great. As more folks find you, they will watch your back catalog, your views will go up, and soon you will rule the world...
You just sold another vacuum. Best review video I’ve seen in a long time and I’ve seen a few. Milwaukee should send you all of their tools so you can review them all.
Thank you for the very detailed review. Really liked how you showed its performance with a dirty filter and especially another test with a quickly cleaned off one (which is exactly what users will do when using this product).
I love the m12 vacuum. Perfect for cleaning sawdust and drywall dust. Every time this saves me from lugging out my small corded shopvac I have saved tons of time and effort. With this I am able to get in and out of a clients house much faster and cleaner. 10/10
So just like any tool, if you learn what it’s capabilities are and use it within such capabilities, and use it for its intended purpose, you’ll be fine. If you put a 8 foot cheater bar on a 1/4 ratchet, or use a ball peen hammer to pull nails, you’re going to have a bad time. I bought my m12 vacuum one morning before my college class. Went to HD down the road and made it back in time for class. Personally, I believe that the 6ah battery is a must for this vacuum. The runtime boost is just huge. Being a brushed tool, and having to get that little motor to turn the impeller while working against the resistance of the filter is beneficial to the users experience. I mainly use my vacuum for cleaning up drywall dust and cleaning sawdust off my table saw, bandsaw, workbench, etc. I’d also say it’s worth it to clean the filter every time you dump the canister. It’s easy to pull the filter off and just a heavy tap or two on the side of the garbage is all you really need.
I have M12 one,i often use it for car cleaning and sometimes to clean room,I use half cut sock on top of the filter,it's easy clean the sock after use then that actual filter..
I was thinking about getting this for the same reason. I have other m12 tools and I wanted to get a vacuum for cleaning my truck. Would you still recommend this vacuum for car cleaning or do you think another style vacuum would be better? The only thing with this vacuum is it seems long. Like it might be hard to fit in certain areas. Thanks!
*For the price, this is a pretty decent grinder **MyBest.Tools** With 90 psi shop pressure is hard to stall even when material galls up in wheel. I've got three of them now, two of them I bought back in 1992 and they are still going strong!*
Seriously - thank you for this kind of more nuanced info! The noise aspect was something I've begun to consider more now, but at 110dB it's... up at concert level noise - for context 130 at 100m is a take off from an airplane lol. I think if they make a brushless version (I mean they use Ryobi as a kind of experimental platform) but it's due for an update; I certainly wouldn't mind. For my needs (reasonably) I still like that unit, alot!
Thanks, I needed a video review just like this. I was seeing written reviews of this tool kind of all over the place from 1 to 5 stars...this didn't make any sense to me. Obviously either people's expectations were out of line or they never maintain their equipment to get good performance. I'm buying this one after seeing it for myself in your excellent review.
The m18 handheld is my most uses tool of this year I'd say, as a handy man /maitnence man. Only downside to it was fixing or changing toilets so I picked up a wet dry m12 today. I've Had the handheld m12 for about 3 years now and it's great for small areas common areas cars. Filter clogs easy for small particulates.
I wish they would make an updated FUEL version as well as a M18 FUEL toolbox style vacuum, oh ya a M18 Coffee maker too, and M12/ M18 automotive jump pack. OK thats giving away enough ideas for the day, I have pages and pages of these.
Super helpful! Been looking at options to clean window tracks for my window cleaning business. I think this is gonna be the one since I’m already running Milwaukee tools. Only hesitation now is that it doesn’t have a blow function 🤔
Although this vacuum seems unreasonably loud, I would be more curious what the average db are from an arms length away. I wouldn't be using the vacuum directly up to my ear, and I noticed that when you were getting readings when vacuuming from the little container it was peaking in the 80 db range which is way less than 108 db. Just my 2 cents. I want to like this product and get excuses to purchase it, but my 18v LXT makita vacuum is about the same size and I think would run circles around this unit (though the makita's design seems a bit fragile easily damaged).
People do the same thing with the upright canister vacuums. I lived in an apartment for 10 years and would get a vacuum out of the trash every 6 months or so. They let the canister get so full that it ends up clogging the hose.
I have a autoglass business so I was searching for a Milwaukee vacuum that uses the M12 just like my adhesive gun. Came across this one and was doing research. Found your video and good job for the review. Great video. You gained a subscriber. What kind of brush did you use to clean out old filter?
I had the tea kettle vac for several years but for some reason it started blowing dust everywhere I'm not sure how to fix it. The m12 is still going strong
Seems as though you kinda avoided the obvious direct comparison between the m12 and m18 version rt next to ya. Is that because there no comparison to be made ?
My m12 vacuum is horrible at picking up dust, ect. It would never be able to pick up a screw. I have purchased new filters. It was horrible from day one
If you are looking for a hand vac, this is one of the worst. In fact, all the tool brand vacs are terrible. None of them use a cyclonic dust separator and rely purely on a crappy filter, which gets blocked in seconds when you suck up plaster on concrete dust. An 1/8th of a cup of concrete dust will block up the (disposable, non washable) filter in my M12, and my Vax Blade 2 Max cyclonic will suck up dust until the bin is full, and hardly any will reach the filter, which is washable. Pick up your game tool makers!
Should work great. Expecoally in nooks and crannies. Not so much in broad sweeping strokes. We sometimes use a small broom to sweep across our wood steps and then use the vacuum to suck up all the debris once near an edge or corner. I gave one to my mother in law and she loves it. Probably more than me.
Great idea with the SPL meter. Just be careful about how close you get. Those kinds of measurements are generally done at one metre distance, not right next to the measurement device. At that distance it is not quite accurate (the air pushing out of the vac will impact this measurement at that distance). Great idea though. I am looking at getting this vac for quick and easy cleanups as an AV installer
Thanks for the advice. I've used the SPL meters in audiophile settings, and crowd noise too. 1m on axis from source seems a standard, but where's the fun in that.
I love it for that. It is loud however, so I wear earplugs. But I use it all the time even though I have a dedicated shopvac in my garage just for cars and trucks.
Do you think this would work with a hose to the M12 circular saw to collect dust for a few sheet ply cuts? Is there a way to keep it on? I was thinking of getting the M12 wet/dry, but this might be more useful to keep in the car.
That's a great idea. The only think I could think of would be how fast the container would fill with sawdust. But for basic cutting it should work great. I have had mine pointed near both a chop saw blade and drill bit to suck up the debris and it works way better than nothing. I almost used it on a sander too.
I'm sorry but this vacuum is most pathetic tool I ever used, couple of holes in the concrete floor for the anchors and it's done, there is no excuses like small filter etc. tool works or not, this one doesn't. After I got Bosch 12v one, lot smaller, much less noisy and overall a little less pathetic 😄. Do your self a favour and go straight for m18. Thanks for effort though.
I bought one for my car. Right out of the box the biggest waste of $180.00 (bought battery and charger also) the thing is a piece of shit. Barley picks up cigarette ashes.
I've got two of them an they are both powerful. There's got to be something wrong with yours. Have you taken it apart? Made sure the little rubber flap on the intake moves freely? The fan is working properly? As you can see in my video, mine inhales nuts and bolts.
a couple of my coworkers have this vac. it is by far the most pathetic vacuum I have ever used. noisier than it is effective with a filter the size of a sippy cup. I don't want to be cleaning the filter after I pick up a handful of saw dust.
108 decibels is louder than a 70cc chainsaw. You need serious ear protection at those levels. If it's in an enclosed space, it will really hurt your ears quickly. Just slap on some earmuffs.
That is one hell of a good review!

When you tapped the filters out i could feel the familiar sawdust in my eyes 😊

"Using my snap on brass brush", so envious.

Milwaukee m12 Hair Clipper
Excellent review. Thanks!
I found this video because of the reviews on Milwaukee's website.
I have this vac as well. Its not a shopvac, its a nice little vacuum to use for smaller things.
I just bought one today at a milwaukee truck event on the strength of this review 😂😂🎉

3:57 a snap-on brass brush but I'm sure any kind of brass brush would do
Nice review. I always wear hearing protection with my small Vacs And blowers and I would recommend the same for everyone.
🐱
Thank you
I had the tea kettle vac for several years but for some reason it started blowing dust everywhere I'm not sure how to fix it. The m12 is still going strong
Looks good so far.
You give those are gifts ? You must like your friends 😂😂 another good video!
What is the m12 battery run time per charge please?
My #1 question is;
If I have both m12 and m18 batteries, but I only want one vacuum, should I buy the m12 or the m18 for the shop ?
The nice thing about this vaccum is you can set it up for anything.
I’m obsessed with the pack out vacuum I am a plumber. It’s better than the original
The m12?
Seems as though you kinda avoided the obvious direct comparison between the m12 and m18 version rt next to ya. Is that because there no comparison to be made ?

Do you think it will work for gold fish/ kids junk in my van? I have the m18 one you have but the inlet pipe gets clogged to easy!
Which do you like better the m12 or the m18 compact and have you tried the newest m18 fuel compact vacuum ?!?
It just picking up sawdust and drywall dust I would say it does the job for me
I have 3of them. Yes love them
I'm sold. Got to spend more money now lol... I'm looking for a vac for my boat getting sand and dirt and sunflower seeds.

How is the m12 handheld vacuum hold up and is it worth buying for household use
My son bought me one. I’m really hoping it work’s well enough to clean stairs.

This vacuum is awesome.

@@lastbesttool Yeah. What I'm thinking, this would only be for 1 or 2 cuts when I'm away from the shop, or power for the vac.
It’s a vacuum since when was any vacuum quiet
Nice...i’ll get one tomorrow
Let me know what you think of it.
Is the M18 a lot better? or how does it compare?
I can tell you the m12 is garbage. I would like to try the m18
I've had the M12 hand vac for several months now and I find it an indispensable tool for small area cleanup, especially near my drill press.
For a 1 bedroom apartment that's roughly 500sq/ft it's perfect!
$49 at Home Depot for cyber Monday!
only m12 tool I didn't like, filter wouldn't stay put, stored in landfill..
