    I have a older brushed Milwaukee M12 and also a battery Proxxon IBS/A. For me, the most significant difference is just what you haven’t shown: the proxxon uses a correctly engineered spindle with two bearings on a precision shaft. This results in much quieter operation, less noise, LESS VIBRATION (yours hands will not get so sore, so numb, so fast), less run-out and better overall job quality, as this tool is much more controllable. The Milwaukee is good (battery tools are a game changer). I bought the Proxxon because the bearing of my Milwaukee died. I replaced the bearing, but it’s quite hard to press it correctly, now it wobbles too much.

    • @RoomForTools
      @RoomForTools Месяц назад

      The new brushless tool has low vibration. Probably because it has tighter specs since the body of the tool has to hold the rotor dead centre.

  • @colincreedtattoomachines
    @colincreedtattoomachines 2 месяца назад

    Supposedly that particular collet style for the FF 230 is based on a Euro "standard" & given Proxxon is German, that would make perfect sense. Remember too this Mill design is quite old & so all of it's features (collets included) needed to be "backwards compatible" to all the earlier models, however Proxxon has just recently (late 2023) released an "upgraded" version FF 250/BL that features an ER 16 collet system as well as a variable motor like the better FF 500/BL uses. The variances within your speed tests could be explained by your motor being the 110V-60Hz version whereas Euro is 240V-50Hz I have the same FF 230 as you & being in Australia, we're 240V-50Hz & my speeds are very close to the "sticker". As others have already mentioned, that "wood" motor pulley is in fact a Phenolic/fibre composite.

    • @RoomForTools
      @RoomForTools 2 месяца назад

      I wish the now FF250/BL was available in the 120V market. You are correct about the speed differences, different motor. I also think their literature translation department needs a bit of attention as the speeds listed in the manual do not match the speeds on the decal.

    • @colincreedtattoomachines
      @colincreedtattoomachines 2 месяца назад

      @@RoomForTools I'm sure the FF 250/BL will be "USA compatible" in due course...my only concern with this FF 250/BL is its speed range doesn't go as low as our version, starting at 400 RPM is much too high for my current needs ...I like the much lower speed when using both a small boring head & fly cutter.

      I have machined an ER16 adapter for this mill, it is rather straightforward to do if you also have a lathe - I, in fact, have PD250-PF230 combo. the main "trick" I used was to turn the M20x1.5 thread, then spin the blank on the spindle and mill-turn the OD in place to get it as concentric with the spindle as possible, then re-mount the blank in the 4-jaw chuck in the lathe, indicate it REALLY well and machine the rest of the features (16º included taper and M22x1.5 thread for the ER16A nut, which I bought separately). with that done, the tool runout is under 0.01mm with quality collets. another option would be to remove the spindle, open it up for the ER16 taper, and re-machine the thread for ER16M nut, which is M19x1.0. the existing M20x1.5 thread has 18.676mm minor diameter, so the new thread is going to look ugly, but I don't see why it won't work.

    This thing does a good job on everything I’ve tried to cut on it! Cons? The 90 degree detent is ridiculously inaccurate, and I block the toggle lever open so I can lock it down at a true 90, 45, whatever. And the blade guard is terrible! A pain to accurately cut to a line because you nearly have to stand on your head to see it!

      I like it, for a mill that I can pick up and put on a shelf when I am not using it! Not much out there in that regard, only the Sherline that I am aware of. The Sherline looks pretty cool and well thought through. Though it does not have a quill feed for drilling. The Taig is pretty cool too, though quite a bit heavier, would need a permanent spot in my estimation.

    “A grinder & paint, make me the welder I ain’t!” Lol. Not bad for a first attempt, but tacking the knuckle grater is a challenge for even the most experienced welder! I’m late to the party, and your skills have probably improved over the last 3 years, but when you strike the arc, don’t immediately start moving! Let the arc build heat in the base metal and deposit a puddle big enough to connect both sides of the joint. One of the first things you need to learn is to distinguish between the molten metal and the molten slag. That and when striking an arc, it’s easier to do if you mimic striking a match instead of tapping straight in! Just a couple hints from a retired certified welder. Now go back and reweld the bottom joint on that chair! Lol

    Always enjoy watching your videos. 👍 I think it's unlikely that the collets are proprietary. I imagine production costs would be too expensive for the relatively small numbers that proxxon sells. At a guess, they look like "EOC" or "OZ" series collets. 🙂

    • @RoomForTools
      @RoomForTools 2 месяца назад

    Thanks for sharing. Interesting specs you provided, especially the details on air speed differences. This is a useful blower. Certainly not for the lawn, but I’ve been using for clearing sawdust when working outside, off the sawhorses and tools. Also easy to hold when on a ladder for blowing leaves out of the gutters. I have some of the HO 2.5 batteries. Performance basically same as 3.0 compact. For the blower I’ve been using the XC 6.0 batteries which weren’t tested here. Guess they would perform same as the HO 5.0 did.

The M18 is a beast in comparison to the M12. I have heard negative things about the 6.0 batteries, that they go out of balance easy. So, I have not added any to my collection. YMMV.

      Yeh. It would seem that the XC6.0 should provide about as much air speed as the XC5.0HO (perhaps 4% less). I have just avoided 6.0s because I have not found a deal on them and I read in a few places on the intertube that they are more prone to going out of balance than XC4.0s. YMMV.
