@SidtheKid "no reference to a constant society without police". You do know that sweeping, systematic law enforcement is very modern right? For most of history, most societies didn't have something as efficient and yes, it was very shit.
I dont think its fair that police officers doctors nurses and firemen and women save lives everyday and help thousands of people across the country but footballers or if your american soccer players get paid 10-20x more than them for kicking a ball around a pitch for 90 mins Huge respect to emergancy services everywhere
Footballers are not paid by the government though. They're paid by the football clubs which are like corporations who can generally afford it. Its not like that money could go elsewhere coz the players are being paid for their job bringing money into the club. Don't pay players, players won't play, players don't play that money isn't there. If footballers were getting those atrocious amounts from the government then it would be a different story
because footballers are not public service workers. loads of people get paid more for doing less. people like hotel inspectors. they get paid a shit tone of money for going to sleep.
It's always been a mystery to me why so many people will spend so much of their money watching this game, either on TV or at stadiums, to the extent that these players can be paid so much money. Football's ok, but it's not THAT entertaining. I reckon most top-flight players are worth £50-60,000 a year. After all, all they do is round around a bit a kick a piece of leather.

I've known a lot of Mackie restaurants to be hotspots for trouble, usually druggies taunting customers for money or drunks passing by after clubbing and even school youth gangs vandalising. To have a Police Station right above one of these has got to make it the best security Mcdonalds could ask for. Presence of a police base on hand for immediate response, low risk crime in the area, officers have one less area to worry about.
THANK YOU Thank YOU FINALLY THE TRUTH WITH GREAT HUMOUR. MY HUSBAND ENDURES SO MUCH CRAP AS AN OFFICER FOR LESS THAN £30,000 a year. Tracey Dempsey nearly 30k a year for his job is about right. My brother and neighbor get around 15k or less a year for lifting and fitting around 30 fridges/washers/TVs.
No wonder there's so many British police here in Canada. Working for the Edmonton Police Service as a first year Constable you make $67,414 CAD ( that's just over £39,000). As a second year Constable, you earn $71,439 (which is just short of £42,000). That's not even accounting for shift differentials, overtime and special events pay. That's a remarkable difference. I would have thought the UK would have a bigger budget for policing.
As much as i like this statement its not entirely true, because of how many guns there are in the US, cops there have to be much more cautious. which is why (i think) there are more civi deaths in the US
I see a few americans in this thread saying that as long as you dont pull out a weapon or look like you are going to pull a weapon you will be fine. However in england even actually having say a knife if its of a legal length and you have a good reason for having it will not result in any hostility from a police officer. For example, i have had police called on me and my friends because we had a knife. We were having a picnic in a forested area, listening to music and my friend who brought his carving knife was practicing with it. Apparently some people walking past saw it and called the police, some officers calmly walked up to us and casually asked if we had a knife. when we said yes he again calmly got out a ruler and measured it, when he saw it was of legal length he simply gave it back, adviced us not to have it out in public so we dont scare people and left. There was no anger or hostility, actually while he was measureing the knife he made polite conversation with us. Even if we had pulled the knife on him and attempted to attack him i doubt he would have badly harmed or killed us, because uk police are trained to disarm and stop criminals without injuring them.
@dexterhd29Ok... That is just all wrong, like all of it. Firstly I'm fairly sure the US had a court ruling about how the police don't actually have to protect you: m.ruclips.net/video/jAfUI_hETy0/видео.html while I realise this is an extreme case the point still stands. Secondly what Muslims are getting away with rape or murder? Where are you getting that from? You say the British police run and hide? You realise half of this video was about how they don't, did you watch it all? (also the police officer at a recent school shooting in the US who just stayed out of the building springs to mind...) Finally you say they don't care about race or religion but there are constant stories in the news of US police officers being racist.
I love the police so much, they saved my families life when I was 11, I am so thankful for them, I owe everything to them, they are such a blessing and it breaks my heart to see people treating them like scum, we need to have more respect for them.
Lennie Torizzmo it might not mean safe but they don’t have the possibility to easily kill someone and FYI they were bystanders and weren’t doing anything.
They are mate, trust me, they are. As an 11 year old and getting smashed up by them all day , EVERY day, along with our 'brown' community, ribs and wrist smashed in, /11/12 year old friends who ended up in intensive care, just riding our bikes, walking to a mates house, kids, babies when I think about it now, being assaulted cause of the colour of our skin, by big, fat, obese middle aged white 'officers', lol, trust me they are 'scum'.
There are alot of bad police officers who don't deserve to wear the uniform. But we can't judge all police by those individual disgusting officers. Majority of police do a great job protecting us. But when those officers who don't care it makes it hard to know which officers can be trusted.
When have you ever heard anything uk police officer killing people because of race ? Until then shut the fuck up and if you don't like it leave the country
Is it any different now then? Wasn't it the exact same joke before? You mean, it's just a bit heavier, now that stuff in the USA is happening? Or did I miss something and was there another kill in Britain recently?
@Conor Malone But the video is about the British cops. I mean..I can't go to a video about cats, in which someone says; 'Hello I'm British and my cat never attacks me." And then say; Oh wow, that aged well...there was a rabid dog yesterday in the USA.'
I mean if anything it is more relevant in 2020 as we continue to shed light on the inequities between how the police treat white people vs black and brown people?
UK cops are actually cool, they treat you like a person, its a hard job. I think being a cop should be as hard as being a pilot.... BUT most importantly it should pay as much.
The only problem with paying all police officers as much as pilots, is that there must be 20-30 x more officers than pilots, but I do agree that they should be paid more
@Cringey bulgarian live Streams In Sixth Form, I had a teacher who was a former police officer, and not only did he confirm that police officers can be majorly racist and are in fact encouraged to preserve racial bias in the police force, he brought in a couple of kids -- one a working class white kid, another a black kid -- to tell us about how, as young teenagers, they'd already been unjustly targeted by the police. When you bring in the downturn in government funding that Theresa May has been implementing, you find that it leads to police officers trying to keep up their arrest quotas, trying to do the same work with less -- all it does is incentivise them to police minority ethnic communities more, stop and frisk young lads just for wearing hoodies or daring to walk in a group while black in order to grab 'easy targets' and keep up their quotas. I have black friends who regularly complain about being followed around shops by security guards -- and this is in North-East England, mind you. At last year's New Years Eve celebration in London, the police were focusing on the parade grounds at the Thames, which allowed at least four stabbings to occur in poorer areas of London, all because there weren't enough officers about to respond. I want to say that more funding will prevent 'thrifty solutions' like preserving institutional racism in the police force, but first, we need to tackle it in the officers we have now, and we can't afford to just wait until the old guard who teach this racism retire. The police can be of great help, but as Russell Howard said and you're saying as well, that only truly applies if you're white. We cannot live in a country where your experiences with the police differ depending on your ethnicity. Thank God this isn't the US, where black Americans have to teach their children that the police are dangerous to them and how to interact with them to make sure they come back home alive. But we cannot say this country is innocent.
I think police know in britian are some off the fairest in the world unlike American cops who shout at ya they will calmly talk to you that being said tho in 1980s my dad went on hoilday to England he's from Belfast a officer stoped him saying he thought he had a knife he did not when my dad asked what gave him that idea he said all you ira bastards do
@mandellorian You make it sound like the less money the met gets the lower knife crime is, why dont we just give them nothing then? That must do us so much good!
mandellorian Not many cops have motivation nowdays wich means that they will stop caring and work other jobs etc due to the extra hours and less days off and less wages etc. if you pay someone less wht are they gonna do...complain and if you do it more whats gonna happen...they become bitchy then they leave and in this day and age nearly 50% of ppl are like that and think like that coz they are nobeds and selfish... are you with me?? Buttt thats just all in my head theres no fkin evidence so i just made it up so i just did it to piss ya off 😂😂😂😂

It's crazy what the police put up with. I have enormous respect for that last one. All he had was his baton, he didn't even have a Kevlar vest or anything (at least, I don't think he did) and he still stood against multiple armed terrorists. Solely to protect others. Simply incredible.
The sad truth is modern Police vests aren't even stab-proof. They're only good at protecting against slashes to the front and back. Any direct penetration from a bladed weapon, ballistic projectile, or really any other blunt force does jack shit to defend the Officer from the damage. This is the result of a Conservative government.
@@YTchannelrandomf That reminds me of when someone uploaded a video a while back showing that a stab-proof vest wasn't stab-proof at all. How did the media react? They accused him of training terrorists, no really, that actually happened, I'm confused about it too

Actually most stories of American police brutality are fake/heavily manipulated/lacking context. If you want to see the truth about police then don't go to news articles, nor Twitter feeds, but instead watch actual body camera footage that starts from the second the officers get on scene. The channel "Donut Operator" does a great job of this, he breaks down police shooting showing full context, I'd suggest you watch his videos and maybe even compare them to how the media covered the same exact shooting. I used to think the same as you on American police, then I discovered this magical thing called context which cleared everything out, shame the media hasn't discovered it yet
Nice to see Russell using his platform to get important matters like this across. Always been one of my favourite comedians, but always knows how to hit home with these serious issues.
Back in the 60s my sister was on holiday in New York and got mugged. I sh*t you not, the exchange went like this: "Gimme your wallet!" "Don't be silly, I'm English". "Sorry". She felt so bad for the guy (he was really strung out) that she gave him $5.
Many people get arrested correctly, many more, in fact. Much respect to the Police, they are not super heroes, they are just regular humans like you and I, and they too, are capable of mistakes and bad days.
Russel Howard is my inspiration, he allows me to remain calm throughout the intense stress I’m currently experiencing, thank you Howard, stay humorous and don’t give up!
As of last week I am now an ex-police officer. That man deserves so much respect. We deal with a lot of shit even from the people we have been sent to protect, but every officer has sworn an oath to protect the public and we try to do it as best we can. God bless you buddy. From everyone on my Police force we wish you good health.
Wow !! It takes a comedian to send a powerful message !! This officers are risking their lives to protect the people that undercut their wages and make them more and mor vulnerable with idiotic policies !! Thank you 🙏 officers for protecting me , my family and our way of life x
It's so sad that we have as Brits such a bad relationship with drink we just aren't educated properly about drink you gloomy see many continentals getting drunk like we do
Haze DC but you need to get involved when police and hospitals are spending half their time on drunk people. That’s basically money just being flushed away
That's actually really cruel. Police cop so much shit from drunk, abusive people while trying to protect everyone! Plus the aggression and assault rate is so incredibly high. They're just doing their job?
It's so different watching this as an American. We also have a love-hate relationship with the police, but they're armed to the teeth! And so are we! It's completely mental over here. Frustrating all around. (And don't come at me- my Dad was a policeman in the military, and I have great love for the (civilian) police - but you know that things in America are crazy! It's out of control here, all around!)
The big difference over here is that if you are kicked out of the police for anything, there is a national register and you are done. No joining the coastguard, prison service or even a job as a security officer. Also none of the “resigning before you get fired” and join the sheriffs department next county over.
I am an American. Something I don’t say with nearly as much pride as I did three years ago. That said, I hope the British people appreciate what a national treasure Russel Howard is. Not only is he absolutely hilarious, but his sense of social responsibility and justice is phenomenal. I am a huge fan.
I love you Russell 😂❤️ I remember my grandma tried to talk to a cardboard cutout of a police man and I walked past and told her he wasn’t real and she stood there laughing
@mandellorian I didnt realise becoming a police officer instantly made you a terrible liar and bad person, i didnt know technology had come that far to just instantly or even gradually flip people to become what is specifically your interpretation of evil.
it's easy to whine but i really am jealous of just the fact that you can trust the police at all?? like they do show up even if you call them for stupid stuff and they try to help??? sounds unreal to me, i'd be satisfied with my country having police i'm not afraid of, them doing their job sounds like a total bonus
I don't normally ROFL when hearing comedians, but Russel, you really pack me up and still manage to teach us something at the same time. Although I'm not British, I haven't been drunk since 1976 and my only run-in with the police was because I was selling religious literature on the street in 1982. Still, you offer an amazing perspective.
This is what we need right now. A lot of the cops in the USA are clearly out of control and that needs to be sorted out but there are a lot of good cops around the world as well and they need to be held up as a shining example of what cops should be.

Full respect to all decent serving officers, here too. And I suspect that’s most of us. You only hear the bad things said, unfortunately. ❤️

He fought off multiple terrorists attacking British innocents, with nothing but a baton and his willpower. How the fuck is he not a hero?

A lot of people don't realise how bad the streets would be without the police
@SidtheKid actually London had way more crime before the met police was formed in the mid 19th century.
@SidtheKid "no reference to a constant society without police". You do know that sweeping, systematic law enforcement is very modern right? For most of history, most societies didn't have something as efficient and yes, it was very shit.
@ΟΜΑΙΜΟΝ ΟΜΟΔΟΞΟΝ smh
They are already....
The streets are bad with police mate i bet u live somewhere nice and don't have to deal with it.
I dont think its fair that police officers doctors nurses and firemen and women save lives everyday and help thousands of people across the country but footballers or if your american soccer players get paid 10-20x more than them for kicking a ball around a pitch for 90 mins
Huge respect to emergancy services everywhere
And faking an injury due to a blade of grass hitting them and saying they got kicked
10-20? Try 100-200x

@@susu959 It's a psychological thing. Nobody is tricked into thinking it's a real cop (if they're that dumb, they weren't going to manage it anyway). it's just a reminder of 'Police are a thing, and they will get you'.
Obviously not going to work on any proper criminals, but it will make some 'casual' criminals stop and think.
Well that's true 😂
@@Canadian_Zac At my local Morrison's there's a policeman sticker on the door and when I haven't been for a while I forget it's there and for a split second I think there's a policeman stood there. That sort of hesitation could be enough to identify a shoplifter or deter someone from shoplifting if they see the sticker from far away. It's obviously not going to work all the time, but it's more effective than it first seems.

One of the police stations near me is the second storey of a mcdonalds.
GeneralZ convenient for lunch hour I guess 😂😂
You say it like it's a bad thing
GeneralZ the police will just get fat and not be able to chase people
Mcdonalds is the UK equivalent of the police's donut. High in sugar, it's actually good for a chase. In conjunction with a balanced diet. ;)

Eileen Arroyo Damn your creepy.
I like the police in this country. There rarely racist and 90% of what they do is right. Its the American police you need watch out for.
Agreed Truide
Meanwhile in America "officer shoots unarmed black guy who was just picking up his morning newspaper"
(also the police officer at a recent school shooting in the US who just stayed out of the building springs to mind...)
Finally you say they don't care about race or religion but there are constant stories in the news of US police officers being racist.

UK cops are actually cool, they treat you like a person, its a hard job. I think being a cop should be as hard as being a pilot.... BUT most importantly it should pay as much.
The only problem with paying all police officers as much as pilots, is that there must be 20-30 x more officers than pilots, but I do agree that they should be paid more
@Yovana Yancheva how do they? Never been disrespected by police for race

I have enormous respect for that last one. All he had was his baton, he didn't even have a Kevlar vest or anything (at least, I don't think he did) and he still stood against multiple armed terrorists. Solely to protect others. Simply incredible.
There was a Millwall fan, who physically resembles me. Who also did the same & it wasn't in his job description.

Plenty of scum police here in the UK too. Don't be fooled.

@@analogeit are you in America?
@mandellorian I didnt realise becoming a police officer instantly made you a terrible liar and bad person, i didnt know technology had come that far to just instantly or even gradually flip people to become what is specifically your interpretation of evil.
Shame they don't exist
@@danjwheatley PC Marques at the end of the video?
it's easy to whine but i really am jealous of just the fact that you can trust the police at all?? like they do show up even if you call them for stupid stuff and they try to help??? sounds unreal to me, i'd be satisfied with my country having police i'm not afraid of, them doing their job sounds like a total bonus
You American?
@@livb6945 nope
You can't trust them at all, hth
@@danjwheatley are they highly likely to extort you, plant evidence on you, straight-up hand you over to organised crime?
I don't normally ROFL when hearing comedians, but Russel, you really pack me up and still manage to teach us something at the same time. Although I'm not British, I haven't been drunk since 1976 and my only run-in with the police was because I was selling religious literature on the street in 1982. Still, you offer an amazing perspective.
This is what we need right now. A lot of the cops in the USA are clearly out of control and that needs to be sorted out but there are a lot of good cops around the world as well and they need to be held up as a shining example of what cops should be.
I'm watching this now, 6/2022, weeks after Uvalde. If only we here had more dedicated officers like PC Watkins...
