Gambling is an endemic that needs to be dealt with but when it comes to child gambling the issue doesn't lie in football bets but in the form of loot boxes and microtransactions (in-app purchases) in video games (mobile games and console/pc games), it targets children unaware of the value of money they are unknowingly pay US with their parents credit cards.

I work in a bookies and some of the customers we have are just heartbreaking. People come up, angry and frustrated and tell us to put more money on the roulette machine from their cards. The main issue with that is that we can't say no. We can ask if they really want to, ask if they wanna take a break and calm down, offer advice, but if I wanna keep my job I can't just tell them to stop. In April, the roulette / slot machines will be set to a limit of £2 per spin, which is LONG overdue and should be a real help to these people who can't stop themselves. The real issue is online gambling, because not only are there no spending limits with online gambling, but that's also where the children bet. In the shops, we ID every single person who walks in who looks even a little bit young, but obviously that can't be done online. Online gambling should either be heavily limited, or banned full stop. In-shop betting isn't nearly as big a problem as online betting.

I'm the Manager in a Betfred and I can confirm that when I bring up to the Regional Management about problem gamblers they tell me to try and increase the time and amount of money they spend in my shop. It's not just football and horse bets either. The slot machines in our shops are a tragedy. It happens every week. You get someone who comes in expecting a big pay out and they end up spending £5000 in a few hours and they leave with nothing. The government have put something in motion to try and help though. Next April you will only be able to spend a max of £2 a spin on slots and roulette. At the moment people can spend up to £50 a spin. I've seen people lose £1000 in 10 minutes. It truly is a massive problem in this country. It's like the lottery. Few people win and most people lose.
So glad Russell has called this problem out. The amount of betting adverts on RUclips and TV are getting ridiculous. It's all well and good praising Paul Merson for opening up about his problems, and I'm glad he seems to have overcome them, but what's changing? These adverts are more common than ever, people still bang on about accumulators etc. Nothing is really changing.
My sister's ex would take me to his team's training sessions when I was 8 and would make me collect their smelly kit off the floor, occasionally if they were assigned wonky pitch #3 I would have to stand in place of the missing goal post that someone destroyed with a Ford Escort. Fun times. Had it's upsides though, being a sort of dogsbody-cum-mascot to a dozen 15 year olds I did get to see a few pairs of tits long before I probably should have and I developed a penchant for pot from all the blow backs they liked to direct my way. Mum probably thought my big, wild pupils were from all the giddy excitement of the football. Bless her.
That OJ fact at 3:31 also happened with Oscar Pistorius; he was meant to play Gazelle in Kingsman but his reps thought he wouldn't be able to play a convincing killer so Sofia Boutella wound up being cast instead and they did her legs with CGI. Then, around the time filming started... well...
Its sad that gaming companies had that problem this year with loot boxes and whether it should be considered gambling. Are we at that point in life seriously?
I don't think it should be banned, that won't solve much. They need to hold these companies accountable and stop letting them advertise. I used to have a really bad gambling problem, and there are many, many others out there. And unlike a drug addict etc, you'd never be able to tell. It'll ruin your life and your families lives. And you'll never win anyway
0:40 stopped the war for a little, but then the troops were replaced and ended up fighting elsewhere. But it was still a good moment that reminds us that not all enemy soldiers are evil, or disconnected from us. What they stand for is wrong, what fight for is evil, but not all bad people think that they're bad. And both sides understood that that night.
I work in the gambling industry and I hate to say this but Russell your completely right, I try and say to many people know how much you can afford to lose and stop once you hit the limit, if the where's my football and that I saw on Facebook was from your show, we definitely need that on the TV as it will help people understand what is going on

Eventually he went to rehad got help and managed to stop, even got a court order so that gambling companies couldn't contact him. Then, one day when he was on holiday, he got an email from a betting company advertising a new deal. Sadly he old habits kicked in and he started again. However, he was so ashamed of himself he ended up taking his own life, whilst still on holiday with his family.
0:37 , it also started a war in ~1970 which took the lives of over 20,000 people, the war was between Honduras and El Salvador and it is called the football war
Hey Russell the main problem with kids gambling is because of the type of games that have came out. Publishers force game developers to gimp game play and add as many microtransactions as possible. The main publishers are EA, Ubisoft and Activision who is actually in the process of taking over Blizzard (Diablo on mobile?). There's also Take Two who forced rockstar to add MTX in GTA5 & I assume RDR2 but I'm not sure. Bethesda have slipped lately, just checkout Yong for info. Sorry I also forgot to add that fortnite run but Epic Games is a huge problem, aswel as people who stream opening loot boxes. Oh yeah and another shitty CoD from activision. Edit: watch Jim Sterling
Whit hold up micro transactions need money and legaly children can’t get jobs no way of earning money. Then how are they suppose to to micro transactions with their parents money. Pretty obvious but parents can deny saying no you can’t use £50 on a game or whatever
Fortnite isn't really a problem, it only has cosmetic micro-transactions. There's no element of chance when making a purchase in Fortnite, unlike in CS:GO where there's an incentive to spend as much as possible to get a rare item, which is essentially gambling. Items can't be traded in Fortnite so they can't really have a real world value once purchased.
Yeah I absolutely loath these gambling ads. What’s worse is here on RUclips, they’re all advertised by these bot account things. And there’s a whole lot of them, so if you block one, you’ll still get the ad. Feckin’ 22Bet and Jizzo whatever the feck it’s called. They both need to be shut down

Thanks for this. Im 25, a gambling addict and its ruined my life. Its put me on the edge of suicide too many times
Ryan O'Sullivan same here pal here’s my experience of gambling addiction feel free to watch ruclips.net/video/azUDCiYxj0k/видео.html
The bit bout going to see the footie with ya dad upset me cuz my dads to lazy to even text me it was my sisters ex that took me to see the footie
Dubstep Stack lol
Your sisters ex is your dad now.
@Yes Man Just using the original posters own words mate.
Bless her.
The ad I got before this vid was a ad for betting on spot. 😹😹😹
I love how he brings up real issues while still being funny
This is the best comedian I've ever seen and he also talks about important issues. Great!
Who else got a betting advert during the video
Not me I got no ads
That was part of the video
That OJ fact at 3:31 also happened with Oscar Pistorius; he was meant to play Gazelle in Kingsman but his reps thought he wouldn't be able to play a convincing killer so Sofia Boutella wound up being cast instead and they did her legs with CGI. Then, around the time filming started... well...
“It stopped a war”
The war still lasted another4 years
it also started a war
Not many people can make you laugh and cry Russel is among the few
I counted 14 "PUT A BET ON"'s
The advert before this video started was Jose shilling for PADDY POWER😂😂
Its sad that gaming companies had that problem this year with loot boxes and whether it should be considered gambling. Are we at that point in life seriously?
2:49 Hey that’s me, wow I’ve aged well
4:30 I’m laughing my head off 😂
6:46 I remember that and I was just screaming at nothing the whole game and our car got stolen
😂😂😂 Actually had a bet ad come on before I watched this vid "IRONY"
I’m glad you put the word ‘irony’ in inverted commas as that’s not what irony means 😂
I am from the United states and I still love to watch Russell Howard.
Gambling should be illegal, it's crazy that it's so prevalent.
Why no one is forcing you to go gambling
Drinking should be illegal, it's crazy that it's so prevalent.
It is also sinful.
Lmao I got a betting a betting ad on the video
😂
You do know he put that on right?
Hey! I work for William Hill! We love your videos! Right on!
I love u russel ur so hilarious
I work in the gambling industry and I hate to say this but Russell your completely right, I try and say to many people know how much you can afford to lose and stop once you hit the limit, if the where's my football and that I saw on Facebook was from your show, we definitely need that on the TV as it will help people understand what is going on
"Oh please, gaaamble responsibly"
Forest Dump. OMG, I roared! God, I love 12-year-old humor. Thank you, Russell, I really needed that! 🤣🤣
Hilarious as usual
2:19 *10 minutes later*
Drunk Russell Howard: Get me my 50th beer, NO, YOU'VE had too much to drink! *falls over*
Love how a sports betting ad came before this :'D
This is ironic considering that every Russell Howard video I watch is preceded by an advert for online gambling.
They started putting bans on lootboxes in video games because it's a form of gambling, maybe there's still hope Russ
Watching this video put me over the fun limit.
You wanna talk about kids gambling, talk about videogames
Cough cough fortnite vebux
Yeah but that's parents fault for putting a fucking payment method on the console so fuck off.
@@k-k-q.1009 Yeah so the kid should take some personal responsibility if he has shitty parents. Great strategy. Or you know games that have gambling elements should be restricted to adults only.
I mean... Games with gambling aspects generally do have a higher rating given by the ESRB... As it's one of their warnings but sure.
@@XFrozenAshX at the age of around 9 I got gta 5 at GAME. The guy said I was to young to get, I said I was getting it for my brother, one hour later I was putting the disc to my xbox
Brilliant comedy with eye opening advice.
You see see William Hills in store ads. Either robbie savage shouting or staff and customer singing black Betty at a problem gambler.
The worst story i have heard is that there was a man who was addicted to gambling for several years.
I’ve seen Jesus, he plays for Man City.
I’M DEAD!
Russell , so BRILLENT and funny to bring this huge issue , gambling adverts to children is dangerous.
You know what's disgusting about this?
When the video ended I got an ad for the most fun way to bet on sport.
I got one about betting in stockmarkets.
I just had an ad for sports betting ! Well done google ! 😂😂
I'd love to see what he thinks about gambling in Video Games.
That’s what the child gambling stats were referring to.
I got a betting ad on this video and almost died laughing.
0:41 it also started a war
I'm not sure but at 1:39 I think he is saying put a bet on
After watching this I got an ad for spread ex (a sports gambling website)😂
U wanna buy some v-bucks
Your a bitch
@@boobchickenbeer You're
I got a football gambling ad before this
You might want to know that this vid can run gambling ads...
"When the fun stops, stop"
Is just code for
"When you realise you've lost all that money, stop."
I wish theres more of these
Yeah I absolutely loath these gambling ads. What’s worse is here on RUclips, they’re all advertised by these bot account things. And there’s a whole lot of them, so if you block one, you’ll still get the ad. Feckin’ 22Bet and Jizzo whatever the feck it’s called. They both need to be shut down
Football has also started a war in 1969 between El Salvador and Honduras
How many shots on target were there ?
At the end of this I got an advert that was talking about how fun betting is
