I laughed at the part where he talked about the trans panic clause and jokingly compared it to how people react to spiders. Then I remember that I actually have the displeasure of knowing people who have legitimate panic attacks at even the hint they were near a trans person, and I don’t feel like laughing anymore. I’m just going to sit here, stewing quietly and losing faith in humanity.

Afraid of us? Well, some of us are quite fierce. Otherwise the general theme of trans people is we are overly obsessed with clothing.
If they are panicking, they probably don't fit gender norms in some way and/or because they question gender roles. I am afraid I would have a hard time not responding to those people as I sometimes do with homophobes: ie tell them they would be happier if they came out and it is ok to embrace who they are.

The Trans panic clause isn't as bad as people are making it out to be, as a black man I'm saying this because even though it's not right and that I don't have a problem with trans people, it's an argument for someone to use if they are lied to or led on or if a trans person was using their appearance to gain something out of someone. This law basically makes it so that if the trans man or woman wasn't forward with their partner or whom ever they tried to pick up, they'd get treated as if a man or woman were trying to spread an STD on purpose and can get sued or get their ass beat by those who are emotionally unhinged and or have anger issues. I honestly don't condone murder but if it's a person using you and decepting you, wouldn't you be inclined to sue or kick their ass in the heat of the moment? It negates all second degree and up charges keeping the assaulter/Murderer in 3rd degree or in the misdemeanor offenses IF the trans person is in the wrong.

The thing is right is that I don’t know how people can’t realise that being trans isn’t really a choice. I know a trans girl and I’ve known her since primary school reception. I remember her dressing up in princess dresses when she was about 5, (this is when she used male pronouns and likely didn’t know she was trans) she only transitioned this year and I realised trans people really are born in the wrong body. It’s not something you decide because you’d rather be a girl/boy most trans people have always been their true gender so denying them of anything is just ridiculous. They’re human being for Christ sake! They aren’t any different to any of us, just because they had change their appearance to match who they are. There are 2 trans people at my school and the other one explained to a transphobic person what it was like, he said (to a boy) “ imagine you woke up and suddenly you’re a girl, you know that you aren’t a girl but you have to look that way, of course you’d want to change it. If you had the option you would try your best to become who you feel you are.” And I think he summed it up perfectly. I’m so grateful to have such an lgbtq+ filled school year because it made me grow up learning about all of this and now becoming an accepting loving person. I know I wasn’t always this way because the first time I found out what bisexuality was I thought it was super weird and gross (I think I was in year 5 so about 9-10 years old) but now at 15 I accept everyone who wants to embrace who they are. And I think everyone can have that change whether young or old. - of course it’s not all perfect since these two have to use disabled toilets instead of the one matching their gender and they are both still mocked for being trans but at the moment that feels unavoidable especially in high schools but we can still teach students to be kind and accepting since we have learned about the sexuality spectrum in school but we haven’t learned anything about trans/non binary/gender fluid people which I think should change. Just know all you trans people that you’re not alone and people understand how hard it is to be trans because it is a ridiculously hard thing to be and you’re all very strong. :)

I’m really glad for you to have an LGBTQ+ -filled year group: it’s great that LGBTQ+ people are visible at your school, as that helps to tackle discrimination, and it provides a really good support system for LGBTQ+ people and LGBTQ+ issues.

Ten of my friends are transgender and I hate it when people are rude to them because of that. Changing gender is not a bad thing in any way. As long as they are happy with their new identity no one should even give their unwanted and rude opinions.
Just think, would you rather someone change gender to feel themselves or kill themselves because they don’t feel like their body is theirs?
People complain about people’s beliefs, sexuality, race and if they change gender but at the end of the day it’s no one else’s business. We should worry about the people who are hateful and who break the law.
It just annoys me so much that my friends are scared of people and what they think. Half of them aren’t even accepted by their family and a few others won’t even tell them they want to change gender! I just hate how they have to feel like they’re not accepted and end up feeling just as bad as they did before the change.
