I love Otis Redding. The music world became a darker place on December 10, 1967. At approx 3:30pm his plane crashed into Lake Monona with only one survivor
Sam from Sam and Dave is still with us - Sam Moore released a song last year (at 86) with Jimmy Barnes - a version of one of his songs with Sam and Dave 'Soothe Me' - you should react to it - he still has it and of course Jimmy is an Aussie legend
This sure made me happy! I'm vintage 1949 and these artists were front-and-center in my world of college dance parties. The emotional intelligence that Sam and Dave show in leading the crowd is quite impressive, both in their singing and their dancing. Just wow. Thanks for this one. It looks to me like you have a special affection and appreciation for this era.
That's a performance... a showman is one who can bring it night after night !
That's how and when the MUSIC got me. I was 13 yo. I'm french and i'm still don't know how I find this on radio. It was in 1966... 🎶💜🎶
Since we're talking about time, I was born in 1947 and have been listening to music since about 1951, because the radio was always on WABC NY..... I can remember the years of music, before Rock and Roll even existed ! My brain is like a musical library! Your channel is a much needed window into the treasures of the past! far out!
Thanks, Mugs. I was 16 years old when this was recorded. Vietnam war era.
I'm so glad you are playing try a Little Tenderness, so so fantastic, also listen to three dog night do it also fantastic ✌️
THIS IS MUSIC!!! Can't help but jam along!
Otis had/has a farm next to my hometown. His family still lives there. He was just that guy…wonderful ❤
So I did see Otis backed by Booker T and the MG’s that same year at the Monterey Pop Festival- it’s all on film on YT!Otis blew all the hippies away!!!!❤❤❤❤
Best performance ever
Donald 'Duck' Dunn on bass, Steve Cropper on guitar and Al Jackson on drums, is THE rhythm section you hear on so many Soul (Stax) records from the 60s. You can hear Sam (Sam & Dave) mentioning his name on a song called 'Soulman'.. "Play it Steve!" Take a listen to Wilson "The Wicked" Pickett with "Ninety-Nine And A Half Won't Do from '66...such a great groove! And don't forget to listen to a great Otis Redding called "Down In The Valley", another gem! Pure soul and the drums on that one are too irresistible to NOT move your backbone and shoulders! Love that song... 😎
There are few, if any, songs that build tension as much as Otis' studio version of "Try A Little Tenderness". Otis is one of the 8 greatest all-time soul singers along with Ray, Sam, Aretha, James, Marvin, Smokey and Al.
Otis and the Memphis(Stax)sound owned the music scene in the late 60's-early 70's!
This is great timeless music meant to be enjoyed by all. We don’t have very much of this with today’s synthetic music. 😅
Love this song by Sam & Dave!!! 😊
Sam & Dave were incredible.. The House band for Stax Records was one of the best bands ever! Just Groovin All The Time!
You cannot go wrong with OTIS live at Monterrey POP. I was lucky enough to be there for the show. Went AWOL to be there.
Love otis
Oh yeah,Otis is so smooth!! Loved it back in the day and still gets me today!!
The Stax tour of Europe in 1967, which included legendary soul acts of the time, was a huge influence on UK music at the time. The black Americn artists were received like royalty in Britain, which sadly was in stark contrast to how they were treated in the US, especially in their home States in the south. Soul music like this was the soundtrack to my teens. All the local bands in my country, Scotland, played their songs and the jukeboxes were full of their hits which were played on repeat by us.
These men were so smooth. They Sound-Dress-Dance fantastic I think the horns are trumpet.alto saxophone. tenor saxophone.baritone saxophone. ☮️
The Memphis horns. Two Sax and a Trumpet. For the song he uses a mute on the Trumpet, look closely
That's a coronet with a sound cone, Mug. I wish I could put you in my time machine and take you there. I saw Otis and Sam & Dave with Booker T and the MG's in Coconut Grove, Miami in 68, one hell of a show.
Otis Redding the king of soul!
Love the reactions. It's great to be reminded of some of the best of the past. I think the instrument at 2:01 is A Muted Trumpet. Great sound.
Love Sam and Dave!!
The studio version is the one to listen to for the first time. that's Booker T & the MG's with the Mar-Keys Horns......that is a muted trumpet with two saxes.
Oh no, you stopped to early. Otis does three encores of the song before he is done. That's is part of showmanship of a live show, leave and come back.
I love the Stax sound. Church, rhythm & blues and like you said PD- panty dropping, music all coming together. Soul Music
I love Otis! Everyone did when I was coming up. 💜
Long live the true king of soul, Otis Redding. Gone at 26 in a plane crash, but left us with so many beautiful classics.
That instrument is a trumpet with a mute. Mutes are used to change the tone or lower the volume of the horn, and to help brass blend better with other instruments or voices.
I have not heard this song since I was in my teens!!! I am so excited!!!! You picked a good song!!!! God Bless you!!!!!
Now that was entertainment!
Otis is my favorite ❤️
We really liked every type of music in the 60s
In something I sent, I said Sam Cook and I meant Sam and Dave, lol. Fun reaction! They sure don't make music like this anymore! Trumpet with that metal cup thing in it, maybe? 😂 GOOSEBUMPS from both performances!
You have to hear Otis doing Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.
That’s definitely a Great Song! ❤ Try a little tenderness!
BEST way to start the day, this music,my youth music and a cup of coffee.Thank you 👏👏🤩
Great job on the reaction. And, you've been giving a lot of love to the music of my time...I feel that way, too.
Along with the music, I love the style of clothes and dance moves of the '60's.
His authenticity carries the energy of any room, even all these years later. You have to hear Cigarettes and Coffee 🙏
👍 Old school!!! 🖖 ❤
Try Otis Redding live at Monterey " I've Been Loving You Too Long" . It's possibly the greatest performance in the history of R and B
I should've been born decades earlier!!! The Best music was back then!!!
Oh yes!!💕
We in church now! Lol. James Brown came out in 1955 or 1956! Way before this! Lol.
Check out “I’ve been loving you too long” by Otis. It’s my favorite of his songs
Best is at Monterey
Omg. It's a trumpet with a mute attached. which changes the instrument's tone quality (timbre) or lowers its volume. Mutes are commonly used on string and brass instruments, especially the trumpet and trombone, and are occasionally used on woodwinds.
Yeah man! Keep this coming! Stax records is legendary. I think Wilson Pickett was part of this too. I recommend the Wilson Picket/Duane Allman cover of Hey Jude, its better than the Beatles no cap.
James Brown, Otis Redding, Sam cooke, Booker T, etc., were all contemporaries. James Brown and Otis Redding were about the same age. They were all performing at the same time period through the 50s and 60s. Otis Redding and Sam Cooke died far too young in the 60s. These are people that were performing well before I was born but I'm still familiar with them.
Impossible to sit and listen to this. Gets me every time! ❤ Good choice!
Trumpet, With a Harmen mute. Saxophone solo.
Fire bomb! 💣💥
claronet part of the woods catigory / winds
That’s what he said😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😊❤😊❤😊❤.
You’re hearing muted trumpet, Mugs😊
Yes indeed, played by the great Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns
😍😍😍
You missed the best at the end part when Otis comes back out on stage singing like 3 or 4 times
It’s a trumpet with a mute.
Coronet or Trumpet
VANT BEAT SOUL MUSIC ATLANTIC STAX ETC AND LATER NIRTHERN SOULD FROM UK
Muted
trumpet?
Music
Just a FYI, Trump plays this song at every rally when he leaves the stage. Great song!
Another artist he rips off .
Well, that just took most of the fun out of it. Trump should be ashamed to exploit the talent of Black artists as he pushes his far right white agenda. But, he couldn't care less about any of that...and neither do his supporters.
