Yes. We loved him. I remember the day he died. I was listening to WABC-AM in Brooklyn getting ready to do some public school homework and I was shocked how heartbroken I felt for someone I didn’t know what he looked like or anything about him he was a voice on some of my favorite songs. But, as a kid, he always moved me emotionally. Interesting how important music can be for our souls.

Most people probably don't know this song was written in the 20's. When Otis got hold of it, he made it his own. There's another live recording of this from Otis that he did at Monterey Pops in 1967; just a few months before he died in a plane crash. Otis Redding was a fantastic performer and he was by all reports an even better man.

Just about everyone of those guys backing Otis were also members of The Blues Brothers Band. They all starred in the movie.

His posthumous hit Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay is worth a listen

Got To Got To! At the time of the fatal plane crash, Otis Redding was not very well know to a wide audience, although he certainly was to those who had every heard his music. But after that tragedy, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay was suddenly on the radio every day and later followed by this performance. It is too often the case that we do not really appreciate what is in front of us until it is gone. Really good reaction and analysis. 🤗

Otis was living on the country side when he one day joined his buddy into Memphis. The buddy was going to record at Stax studios and between the takes Otis stepped forward to a mic and began singing his own song These Arms of M
ine. The CEO heard him sing and got very excited and rushed to the control room saying "please tell me you got that on tape?!" The tape was recording Otis who got singded there and then! He was called Mr 100 % he always went all in regardless if it was in the studio or on stage.

Oh baby.. when I just heard you talking, I thought "what a deep creamy voice this girl has", which is the first time I ever had that thought (ok, I said it outloud, to myself lol)
But yeahh... Otis, he's so good, creamy, and then these outbursts from in front of his throat that seem restrained and measured (a rasp from the back of the tongue rather than the throat).. so good
Please do a reaction of "Sittin at the Dock of the Bay", because no other trained singer has done it so it seems. As a baritone/tenor I do love singing that song.
I have liked, commented,.. and subbed in the hope I get that review of Dock of the Bay, baby ;)

Think about reacting to Otis's version of The Rolling Stones song Satisfaction. IMO, it's a much better version, much more up tempo. The second best version is the Devo version, IMO😽

Definitely one of a kind. He inspired so many, but no one could match him. He also recorded at Fame Records in Muscle Shoals, AL where Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aretha Franklin, Rolling Stones, Allman Bros., as so many others recorded. Speaking of Lynyrd Skynyrd....
