An amazing song sung by a legend. Did you know that the Bee Gees wrote " To Love Somebody" for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it, so they recorded it themselves and it became one of their early hits.
Love Otis Redding nicknamed the "King of Soul". Sadly he died in 1967 in a plane crash at only the age of 26. But he left us some beautiful music. "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" is one of my all time favorite songs. Other hits he had were "These Arms Of Mine", "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long" etc.
That was one of the first songs that I remember my father putting me onto. He said my grandpa put him onto it. He would play it when we were out fishing.
Love Otis Redding and this song in particular. Please check out the live version at Monterey Pop Festival along with "I've Been Loving You Too Long". Thanks guys for reacting to this great artist who died way too young. RIP Otis❤
This was the studio version, which was a little restrained. If you really want to hear this song full force, listen to it on the "Live in Europe" album, or live at the Monterey Pop Festival.
Great reaction. Suggest you give a listen to “(Sittin on) The dock of the Bay.” It was his biggest hit and it was written by Otis and Steve Cropper who was a member of Star Records’ house band Booker T. & the M.G’s.
Wife Speaking, SPICY...Yes it is...Otis is so Awesome!!...That drop was Amazing!!...Yes, those vocals absolutely phenomenal..., An Absolute Legend for sure Ty..."Sitting on the dock of the bay".... my very favorite, Loved it since childhood..Great Reaction as Always!!❤
Bless ya, Ryan, for keepin' the light burnin' for soul/r&b on the channel. The version of this song by Three Dog Night is surprisingly terrific, also, and has the kind of ramped-up ending Nick was wishing for.
This is a great rendition of this song. So soulful. It does remind me of Jon Cryer's little lip-sync homage to that song in "Sixteen Candles". Maybe doesn't do Otis Redding justice but that movie did introduce the song to lots of young people.
Otis Redding is the pioneer of soul!!!! He is awesome!!!! Try to react to the studio version of Three Dog Night spin on the song with Cory Wells singing the song!!!! React to it!!! It is FIRE!!!!
Otis recorded this song at the Stax Records studio in Memphis, TN. Booker T. & the MGs were his backing band. Actually, Booker T and the boys were the Stax House Band, and backed up almost every performer who recorded with Stax in that era.
Okay, kiddos, don't be ragging on old music. Check out one of my very favorite songs--I Can't Get Started by Bunny Berigan--recorded in 1937. It's a fantastic example of music from that era. This was a great version of Try a Little Tenderness.....Mr. Redding done good. Ty, good to see you still around so much!!
Otis Redding was part of the great music that was pushing into new territory. It is worth noting that recorded songs were under 2 minutes back in the mid-60s to fit the radio format so, unless you listen to a live version, you are going to get what the label wanted to release and miss out on most of the personality the artist wanted in the song.
On the movie Pretty in Pink Jon Cryer aka Duckie sang this song. Well, liped sync it. Great performance. 1 of my Favorite parts in the movie. Do the clips from the movie. He beefs it up
If the guys go back to Otis Redding, which they hopefully will at some point, the song "Hard to Handle" is terribly underrated and a great juxtaposition to songs like "Try A Little Tenderness" and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." I don't want to give anything away to the guys, but Ryan may very well really like the arrangement of "Hard to Handle." There is also a very respectable version (not easy to find with covers) by the band The Black Crowes from 1990, which keeps the soul/R&B vocals but concentrates more on a rock musical arrangement.
Who is the midddle reviewer trying to school. I seriously doubt Otis would have taken lessons from him -- just sayin'. BTW, the original sounds absolutely NOTHING like this -- totallt different genre.
@@ViewsFromThe502 Yes, I'm aware that this response is 6 months later, but correction. You misunderstood both my points. Middle guy was criticizing the arrangement, hence, I commented, "I don't think Redding needed lessons from him." I never said he critcized his vocals. Re-watch the video.
So underrated!! Such deep soul!!! ❤❤❤you Otis!!!!

He strikes again 😂

Did u know James brown told him don’t get on that plane cause he got rid of the same plane and knew how faulty it was

Otis Redding, Live at the Monterey Pop Festival.
Will change your life 🎶
This is the song Duckie lip syncs in Pretty In Pink to Molly Ringwald in the record store. Love it!
Will forever associate this song with that scene. Too good.
It's also the song "Nuke' laloosh messes up the lyrics on the Bus in Bull Durham.
@@BillyVicenti Good reference! Love that movie.
@@BillyVicentiwomen don’t get woolly, they get weary - and no one’s stressed they’re wearing a dress - I hate it when people get the words wrong! 😂

Definitely look at Three dog nights version
Loved the original and thoroughly enjoyed Three Dog Night's cover as well! Their version draws out the ending and it's much more satisfying imho.

Thought I recognized it. But i believe you mean the movie, Pretty in Pink.
You took the words right out of my mouth! Love that scene…..Epic! 😊. And yes it was Pretty in Pink 💕
@@loricox9678 OMG yeah, it was Pretty In Pink! Thank you
@@ShawnBrown-x8c You're right ! It was Pretty in Pink! Ugh old age.
@bryanCJC2105 not a problem. So many of the movies back then were so similar
A suggestion that you guys, especially Ryan will love :
Another Park Another Sunday by The Doobie Brothers.

When I moved into my barricks room in Germany the previous occupant left behind the greatest hits of Otis Redding. I wore out the entire cassette.👍🎵
Listen to the version at Monterey Pop Festival backed by Booker T & the MGs.
I love this song! ❤ thanks for checking it out!
My favorite two songs by Otis are These Arms of Mine who Ben Uncle soul does a perfect version of and I've been loving you too long❤❤❤❤
When this man's voice was quieted much too soon, we all suffered some.
Otis recorded this song at the Stax Records studio in Memphis, TN. Booker T. & the MGs were his backing band. Actually, Booker T and the boys were the Stax House Band, and backed up almost every performer who recorded with Stax in that era.
Definitely on the Mount Rushmore of R&B and Soul. He's fantastic! Only 26 when he passed away in that crash.

Three dog night does a killer cover of this song 💕
I love this song like the rest of the Boomers here!👍🎶🎵🎶🖤🖤🖤👏👏👏
Rated as one of the greatest songs ever written.
Three Dog Night does this song too.
There are, as I recall, live versions of this song that were longer and Otis DID get carried away.
This man literally sings to my soul!!! Brings tears to my eyes...WOW!!!
Got to try Sitting on the dock of the bay

I really enjoy the version by Three Dog Night, they do another version by Otis which I prefer to this version.
Otis was the guy always in the drunk tank on the classic "The Andy Griffith Show".
There's a funny scene in Bull Durham where Tim Robbins is singing this song and getting all the words wrong!
See my comment. 😊
One of the best. A great version of this on ‘The Commitments’ soundtrack from 1991. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour
The Big O!!!
Another Georgia Gem!
Corey Wells from Three Dog Night covered this too.
One of the best covers I have ever heard of this song was done by (believe it or not ) Three Dog night ! Yup !
The Commitments did a stellar version of this song
Certainly did
Yes, my favorite version, Andrew Strongs voice is incredible.
Chris Brown sang this song on Christmas movie, check it out 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
For me, when I hear the name Otis, I always think of the town drunk from Mayberry...
Your next Avenged Sevenfold react should be Cosmic. I really want to hear your thoughts.
Check out the live version he did at the Monterey Pops in 1967; not long before he died in that plane crash. Fyi; this song was written in the 20's.

Three Dog Night also recorded this song
Great song, just far too short.
Gorgeous song by a great singer. Listen to the version by The Commitments for that payoff at the end.
Memphis sound at its finest!!!
You guys should do the song of Tramp with Otis and Carla Thomas.
One of my all time favorites of his. So sexy
Yes the version by the Commitments from the movie of the same name is crazy good. Like this version also.
The Movie from the UK, irelend band, did this song Great Movie. THE Commitments? Yep! Check this movie out! So GREAT!!!
Came here to post the same thing. And that it is a bit beefier too.
They should listen to Chris browns version
💜💜💜The Commitment's version of this song pays homage to Otis and its a banger!💜💜💜
i love that! 3 dog night does a wicked version too.
The Commitments have the big end payoff he's looking for.
The live version is way better
Guys, take a listen to a soulful and funky song by Otis called "Down In The Valley"...something to get your groove on! 😎
If the guys go back to Otis Redding, which they hopefully will at some point, the song "Hard to Handle" is terribly underrated and a great juxtaposition to songs like "Try A Little Tenderness" and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." John cryer danced to this in pretty in pink movie in the record store.
That was a short version. It got funkier for longer😊
I always preferred Three Dog Night's cover of it.
I rock with you cause you have a member of the team that is down with the AZ. 602!!!
502 dude's listen to three doog night coveer of otis try a little tenderness .it'a groove.. peace johnnyboy
How about Otis Elevators? Great artist who would have been much bigger had he lived . Love the song!
An amazing track. One of my top 10 favorite songs of all time.
YASSSS, LAWD!!!!
I love this song. Otis reminds me of Otis (the dog) from Milo and Otis.
The Commitment version!
Yes, the climax should have been bigger and stronger.
Love this song! We all need a little tenderness!!
Young girls do get wooly
Definitely spicy 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My late Mother's favorite song of all time.
Great band too.
I would be interested in the 32 version as well. There were plenty good songs from that era.
So I found the 30s recording of the 78 record.

Ducky, Ducky, Ducky😎

I love that movie. Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins briefly discussing the murder of those lyrics.
💜💜
It's "Dictionary of Soul"
Yaaaaassssssss🎶💎🎶💎🎶💎🎶💎🎶💎
Find a video of him singing.
Finally a talent that shuts ya'll up
Did he say "Otis" is good name for a
dog ??? ...Disrepect-
ful to Otis Redding' s
brilliant musical legacy, in my opinion.
Plenty of dogs have human names. Relax.
Who is the midddle reviewer trying to school. I seriously doubt Otis would have taken lessons from him -- just sayin'.

When did we ever say that Otis had a bad voice? His vocals have nothing to do with the climax of the song

Did anyone mention that he needed lessons? I'm confused. All we do here is give our opinions on the song, just like anyone else would.
Pretty in Pink 1985 guys.
