The band members were in the movie The Blues Brothers. They were also the studio band at Stax records in Memphis Tn. Some of the best R & B music ever. You will also see them with Booker T and the M G's. You know, Green Onions etc, etc.
I was in high school when this was song was on the charts. Sam is still living and a guest on a great many talk shows, particularly on radio, and always complements Dan Akroyd and John Belushi's "Blues Brothers" act with their music.
Love Steve Cropper on guitar. The lyrics came about when one of the duo was in the bathroom during the session. They called him and he said, "Hold on, I'm Comin'!" The studio version has some pretty un-toppable vocals.
Thirteen years old. Growing up in Houston, Texas. This song just solidified my lifelong love affair with R&B and soul. Thanks for the memories of those early years. Might I suggest Junior Walker and the All stars, "What Does it Take to Win Your Love"
The dynamic Duo for sure! Is that Steve Cropper in the back? Play it Steve! Jim Horn on sax? Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass! One heck-of-a backup band. Stax Records as you say! Is it Booker T on organ. Watch out! Holy smoke! You know, it's not many, if any, that react to Midnight Special clips. Kudos. Thanks.
I'm glad you found this enjoyable. By the way, there have been a few Midnight Special submissions in the past, but not many. That's about to change in the upcoming months. Do you have a request?
Harri, you were pure gold from the second that they began, becoming at one with the performance, grooving in your chair and experiencing the exhilaration of this performance. Perfecto and another example of why I am with you. You are the real deal...thanks.
Awesome! Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass. Steve Cropper on guitar. Legendary Stax musicians. The other half of Booker T. & The MGs. They also played with The Blues Brothers. That Midnight Special Episode aired May 17, 1974. Frankie Avalon was guest host. The other song they played was "Soul Man".
Hayes and Porter had arranged a time to write together. One was late, and made it worse by heading into the bathroom upon arrival. When he was called to hurry up, he said, "Hold on, I'm coming!" Before he got back to the room, his writing partner had built the whole song around his response!
Looks like Booker T on the keyboard. Cant see the drummer but if I was to guess that's Al back there. That would make Booker T and the MG's the rythum section just as it was when originally recorded.
@brianadams4630 I noticed that at the end of the video, just to lazy to add it to my post. Yep, they were the band for Sam and Dave and Otis Redding and other Stax Stars.
HAAAAAAAAARRRRRRIIII❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍🔊🔊🎵🎶 THANK YOU FOR THAT GREAT DOSE OF SOUL!!! I was 11 years old in 1966 when this fantastic song was released! I started dancing around my apartment the minute you started playing it! I loved seeing you bustin' some "chair moves" as you were listening to it too! This song never grows old! Thank you and have a great night!! 😁💯✌👌
I think you loved this one. By the way, I was 14 when this rocked my youthful soul, and I never forgot it. Harri, A very special thank you for a priceless review.
There is a live performance from the mid 60s I think. It’s from Europe and 7-8 minutes long because they’ve added lots of lyrics. Booker T and the MG was there too!
Grew up on this music..love Sam and Dave..check out more of their music..I suggest "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" "You Don't Know Like I Know" "Wrap It Up" You Got Me Hummin'" all smokin hot!!
Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass, Steve Cropper on guitar, those guys liven up any show! Both were stars from Staxx Records! And both were in The Blues Brothers Movie!
Sam & Dave were an American soul & R&B duo who performed together from 1961-1981. Sam had the higher voice & Dave had the lower voice. They had lots of great songs such as "Soul Man", "You Don't Know Like I Know", "I Thank You", "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby", "Wrap It Up" etc.
My God, My God, My God!!!
Legendary soul guitarist Steve Cropper and the rest of Booker T and the MG's holding it down!
Awesome! Haven't heard this in years but I'm singing and tapping right along. Go Harri!
Hahaha!
The band members were in the movie The Blues Brothers. They were also the studio band at Stax records in Memphis Tn. Some of the best R & B music ever. You will also see them with Booker T and the M G's. You know, Green Onions etc, etc.
Play it again Sam! Over and over. Never gets old.❤️
Yeh man!!! Glad that you loved it.

A couple of legends backed up by some legendary musicians.
Love this song.
What great energy and talent! Stax artists Steve Cropper (guitar) and Duck Dunn (bass) are back there laying the foundation. Great reaction, Harri!
Don't overlook Booker T on the Hammond B3.

Yes. They were great. A great song too. Epic and was their calling card. I danced alot to this song back in the day.😂

One of those songs that just makes you feel happy.
Steve Cropper on guitar Donald "duck" Dunn on bass, were both in Booker T and the MG's and the Blues Brothers Band.

Don’t forget Steve Cropper on guitar. One of the best guitarists of the soul era.
I do love this song and I am somewhat astounded that Harri didn't know this. Thanks Beezer and Harri.

ICONS❤❤
The Band was absolutely fantastic. Basically, what you have is the house band for Stax Records. Incredible! The bass player is Donald Duck Dunn.
What you are listening to right here is a very good night at the turntable. Love this!
Love them.
Unreal, nothing can ever compare!
Agreed!
I didn't get to see these guys live, but I saw a couple of Eric Clapton concerts featuring Duck Dunn on bass.
Yes, and they were and they were awesome backing EC.
Think you might enjoy the radio version better. This is good but the other is Great.
Yeah that's Steve Cropper on guitar and Donald Duck Dunn on bass. They were the band for Sam and Dave.
They were also in Clapton's backing band for several years during the 80s and 90s.
Suggestions: Archie Bell and the Drells doing Tighen Up. Shotgun, from Jr Walker and the Allstars. Two classics.
I wore out this 8-track tape! 😲
Doesn't get any better than this.
Fantastic
This was nice♥️♥️ I remember this song on some TV commercials💖
Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass.
It seems to be Booker T & the MG's and the Memphis Horns backing them up.
my friend they were on a long tour. before brodcast.
Have a listen to "Wrap it up.(I'll Take It)"
Booker t.& MG's, plenty of Steve Cropper, and Donald Duck' Dunn "Green Onions!'
Yes, and that performance is on my future submissions list as well.

I Think Sam&Dave did "Shotgun!" too!
No, That was Junior Walker & the All Stars.
Calm down Harri, think of your heart 😄 All those great musicians and written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. What's not to like?
Sam is still alive, he did a duet with Jimmy Barnes at the age of 86 SOOTHE ME. Sam can still sing. Please 🙏 🙏 check it out.
You need to watch the Blues Brothers Movie!
Watch Sam Dave in the Blues Brothers movie
Please do a reaction to Sam Moore and Conway Twitty singing Rainy Night in Geogia
