I remember the sadness everyone felt while watching The Supremes sing "Someday, We'll Be Together" just after Diana Ross said she was leaving the group.

No tattoos no vulgar language no fake breasts and butts. Just pure melodic beauty from three beautiful woman. I'm a old man now and hearing the sounds I grew up with brings tears to my eyes. I miss those times so very much.

Of all the really great Supremes songs, this is still my favorite. They were very welcome regulars on the Ed Sullivan show back in the day.

This is my 10 month-old daughter's favourite group and this is her favourite song by them! I have to wholeheartedly agree with all your comments. This must be the best 'girl group' of all time, and the strings in this particular song really evoke tremendous emotions that simply wouldn't be there without them. The words to the song and the basic melody are simple, yet the backing vocals and strings are the instruments that are actually crying with despair and crying out with hope alternately, which lends tremendous sentiment to a supposed 'pop' song.

Thank you J.K. and Harri. I think it is Diana's greatest vocal performance, at least with the Supremes. Due to the good fortune of landing an usher job at Caesars Palace's Colosseum in Las Vegas, I was able to see Diana about 10 years ago. She was in her seventies then and she came out and sang a perfect, note for note performance of almost every Supreme song there was. Of course she also did her solo career which was amazing but the really magical part was hearing songs like Baby Love and Stop! In The Name Of Love and having them sound like they did when I was 10 years old. Diana looked amazing and her voice sounded like she was 18. As an usher dressed like a penguin, we were expected to stand as straight as a statue while the performers are doing their set. I always found this difficult to do but especially when Diana started singing Stop, In The Name of Love, I broke all protocol and was doing the whole thing with the hands and arms. Yes, I got in trouble but I did not care. Lol. My attitude was that I could always get another part-time job but I knew I would probably never get another chance to see this legend perform.

Florence Ballard's replacement was Cindy Birdsong. Although on this single, Diana Ross is the only member who sang. The backing vocals are sung by Maxine Waters and Julia Waters (those two are better known as "The Waters Sisters"), and let's not forget about the musicians. Some of the musicians who played on this song include Earl Van Dyke on piano, Robbie King on organ, Dennis Coffey on guitar and James Jamerson on bass. The drummer has never been confirmed, but judging by the style, I'd say that the drummer is most likely Uriel Jones.

I'd always heard that Johnny Bristol went into the vocal booth to give Diana encouragement to put more energy into the song. He's not singing the lyrics, he's singing, "Say it!" and "Sing it!" There's also, sadly, no other Supremes on the recording. Being recorded originally as Ross's first solo single, it has other background singers, but Berry Gordy decided to the put the full name of the group on the record. It's still my favorite Supremes' song.

Absolutely fantastic, of course! I am lucky to live where I do, near Detroit. If you ever make your way here, a visit to Hitsville USA, the Motown Museum, is a MUST. The docents and the exhibits are amazing (and the exhibits change, so it is different each visit). Coincidentally, I proposed to my wife in Studio A, where all that wonderful music was made! 😁

The Supremes were one of the best Motown girl groups from the 60's. Most of their early material was written & produced by Berry Gordy or Smokey Robinson. They had so many great hits such as "Stop! In The Name Of Love", "Come See About Me", "Baby Love", "Where Did Our Love Go", "Back In My Arms Again", "I Hear A Symphony", "You Can't Hurry Love", "Love Is like An Itching In My Heart", "Love Is Here & Now You’re Gone", "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "Love Child" etc.

"Someday We'll Be Together" dropped when I was a really little kid, but it stood out on the radio along with a handful of other songs by The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel and the like because I remember hearing it on the radio station my parents listened to. Definite playlist. The extensions were interesting. It sounded like an entire passage focused on the backing vocalists. The Supremes followed up with "Stoned Love", their last American top ten single, with lead vocals by Jean Terrell.
