A couple of years ago, me, and an old army buddy were driving the south. we stopped in Macon GA for a couple of nights. The good old days when you saw things like this and wanted to be a badd ass band, when you were proud to be a Blackman, what the hell happened to us? This is pure badd ass!!!!!! When I look at this I feel proud and sad at the same time. We've lost so much.
I had a friend in the late 60 s whose uncle owned the RKO theatres in New York. Whenever there was a Motown review we d go to Harlem RKO and listen to the greatest singers, Marvin Gay, Mary Wells, James Brown, The Temptations, The Four Tops , etc and dance in the aisles for hours. It was the best time of our lives……
The Shabazz....., the Black Man has not lost what you think He has lost. There are plenty of successful Black Men, many of whom weren't even born when this was aired in 1970: Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Le Bron James, Jamie Foxx. Shaquille O'Neal, Barack Obama, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dwayne Wade, Russell Wilson, Chris Tucker, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Kanye West, Michael Jordan, Jay Z, Kirk Franklin, Lawrence Martin, Kevin Hart, track stars Arriyon Knighton, and Noah Lyles, basketball players Giannis Ugo Sina Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and the list continues, as it approaches "positive" infinity.

I guess I wasn't paying much attention when I was growing up, but after watching several Ed Sullivan reruns on TV, I realized not only did he have some great entertainment on his show, but it was very diverse as well.
My parents watched the show every Sunday. I saw this clip last night and wondered who the first Black entertainers were on his show. Ink Spots in 1948! I did not know his show was that old. He deserves credit for promoting diverse artists to his large audience.
For fans of Stax, this is some great footage of Sam and Dave at their national television best! I always dig the big brother behind Dave on tenor sax keeping up with his skinny counterparts on choreography! Big man busting a move like Heavy D 20 years later....🇵🇷🇺🇸😎

Yes, he still continues to perform. He played a Preacher in Tales Of The City (1990's Version) and a couple of years ago he inducted Al Green into The Kennedy Center Honors. In Europe they had cult status and they bought the house down at montery when alot of Young Men were going to Vietnam.

Did Sam say .. Come on ED ??? I would have paid to see ED Sullivan dance to this song !!
I know the trombone player on the far left (facing the stage). That's Newt Collier! He also played trumpet for Otis Redding at sometime in his career.
The "Big" brother at :12 always killed it on Stax recordings (Midnight Hour). Bad ass, I could watch this just to see this talented man move.
But "The Big Brother" didn't play on the records, just in the live band. And yes, he's great.
