I was there (Black Star Square) for the 12hrs concert. The crowd was waiting for Wilson Pickett to hit stage; it was total madness when he stepped out in the Black spotted jump suit. Crowd waited too long after Ike-Tina Turner, Santana, Voices of East Harlem etc. There was a THUNDEROUS CHEER to hail the Exciting Pickett that was heard 15miles away early hours of the morning. I love the part where he says "1,2,3" the first time and the guy in the white collared shirts facial expression looks mesmerized. It's like ''oh my gosh, what did I get my self in to"? I'm a younger guy and seen Gladys Knight and Al Green when they were older. Must of been something to see Wilson Pickett.
@Fiona Gold Thank you for asking. Let me start by saying people have told me I have an "old soul". In regards to that genre of music in my part of the country(midwest) Motown was the thing for listening to "oldies"...That being said, The Wicked Pickett didn't get alot of airtime but I've loved soul since I could turn a dial on a radio! Pushing 40 years ago now. My first intro. to him would have been his well known number Mustang Sally and Midnight hour...In my 20's I started collecting his Vinyl records. Then I fell hard for Otis Redding and artists from the Stax Label. The past 5 years its been mostly old school gospel. Good day 😃
@Fiona Gold Well, that's a tough one to answer. I was an Army man and have lived all over the country. But, I was born and raised in Omaha. Very cold on the plains and I have back injuries/arthritis. Currently, I call Southern Alabama my home...Back to the music: Do you like Otis Redding? Sam & Dave? Rufus Thomas? Been to any concerts? When I was a little boy Billy Joel was big, and my mother a huge fan. Seen him twice. In adulthood I seen Gladys Knight and Al Green. Had a chance to see BB King.(had to work unfortunately)
Wilson did so many great songs it's hard to pick one Land Of 1000 Dances was one of the best..Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, She's Lookin Good and on and on
Listening to and watching Wilson perform just makes me feel so good. As the great Sam Cooke would have said, it "sends me ".Dear God this is soul. Whether we are black, white, brown, yellow or fucking green why can't we harness this feeling and LOVE, instead of hate each other. Peace & love to all ❤.

Whooo...The Rev. Pickett just took us all to church... say AMEN! ;)
Amen
AMEN
Amen!
Amen, listening to “The Wicked Pickett” made you wonder if it was James Brown in a new life.
Dudes like Wilson Pickett, John Fogerty and Steve Marriott are absolute rock and roll gems.
Picketts really got the right touch with his audience
I was born in December 1959. I got to hear all of the great soul music from the 50's to the 70's. Soul music is part of my earliest memories and struck a chord in me from as young as I can remember. What a great musical era to be alive!
1961 here my friend and I'm with you, remember my older brother and sisters playing the 45 records back then and dancing in the kitchen to these legends, Pickett, Brown, sledge, Conley, Otis Redding, times were good then I remember and I'd like to go back again for a little bit but I'd have to say goodbye all over again to Mom, Dad, my brother and 3 sisters again.
Best wishes to you!
Truth Indeed
I'm whiter than Wonder Bread and their ain't wonder why
THE JOY! Love it! mr. Pickett, what a voice.
Great footage of the late great Wilson Wicked Pickett!!! Honorable mention for the kick azz band !!!!! Fantastic!!!
He's the "Wicked Pickett"!!! Lord have Mercy!!!! Love it!!! That was music 🎶!!!!SOUL LIVES ON!!!
it's impossible not to feel the joy and exuberance 50 years later.
I saw this awesome soul man at three concerts and was always blown away by his music...One time he was starring with Jr Walker and the Allstars when we heard they would not make it to the concert.. The Awesome Mr Pickett played TWO sets and brought the house down.. His sound is in my soul now, and I will never forget him..
"I'm feeling pretty good right now"
Yes, I totally hear you. Big respect.
This is just incredible. 200% energy.
We were so damn lucky to grow up in this era.
We lived in Cleveland and were able to get the Motown motor city music! CKLW. Windsor!
I say we were lucky to grow up then, everyday.
Now This Is A Man That Loves Performing!! He Looks So Happy!!!
What is soul? THIS is soul!
Soul is the ring around your bath tube. Soul is a ham hock in your cornflakes. Gorge Clinton
THE WORLD WILL NEVER KNOW......
Phil, you got that right. Wilson ROCKS !!!!!
brilliant soul master # 1. Sir James Brown
The Wicked wicked Wilson Pickett. Accept no substitutes. This is the Real Deal!!!
I was there at this Soul To Soul concert at the Black Star Square, Ghana.
The looks on the faces in the crowd when he said the first "1.2.3!" *Stunned and mesmerized*
Might be because they were all so drugged up
@@joshkouri6864 Nah. Stay mad though.
even the cops are lovin it...the power of music...just incredible...nobody can scream like Wicked Pickett...
Truly the best screamer. James Brown notwithstanding.
!!WILSON PICKETT!!
Wilson Pickett worked that crowd into a frenzy of joy.
Rudy edward, true that--nobody!
I was a vendor at many concerts of today where all the performers do is push buttons, front gangster and try to look hard. None perform like this.
My Friend Doug loved Wilson so much he just bust into Wilson's intro: this is Wilson Pickett, welcoming all you hippies, yippies and rounders and bounders to San Francisco. " Wilson always been one of my favorite artists. Doug killed himself in the '80s and whenever I hear Wilson, I remember my Friend I have no more. I'm thankful for Wilson's songs bringing back memories.
Am I the only one that thinks Eddie Murphy could be him in a movie they look so much alike it is freaky!
There are definitely some similarities, but I don't think I would have any problem distinguishing between the two face to face.
Really look like!
Yes indeed .
Yeah,yeah,123
It's the mustache. Lookalike? Hardly! Nope. Even if there would have been a movie on him, Eddie would have to have done that 35-40 years ago. Not now.
One HELL OF A TALENT. The people in the audience were so damn lucky to witness this great singer LIVE! Damn wished i could have. Great stuff.
One of the greatest entertainers in the business.! Plus eye candy.! 😌😏😊
Africa 🇬🇭 Ghana, 1971 Accra Sports Stadium
Nobody like the Wicked Pickett. Always loved his music & unbelievable energy.

Canadian here! The Great Outdoors!! End scene is this song/ vibe. ❤
Love how some random kid can jump on stage and dance right alongside Pickett!!!
yeah the kid was great, wonder how he learned to dance like that, wonder what he's doing now?
Some dumbass always wants to be the center of attention
@@DrVonNostrand Seriously? They were having fun! Everyone!
Those were the days, B4 9-11 and all the security measures we have now. I miss those days.
Yep back in the day it was like that unlike all these nowadays prima Donas with security bigger than potus.
I Was Brought Up In The Area Of "Wicked Mr. Pickett" And He Always Put On A Tantalizing Show, His Moves Were Great Back Then, And He Was Great Dancer!
Wilson Pickett had the tightest band my wife and I ever were blessed to have heard live, bar none. Unbelievably talented man. We miss you.
Did he die ?
Yeah, Doshia, we lost him in double aught six. He is missed.
in Accra, Ghana - Soul to Soul concert,1971
Morton Marks I
I was there, run away from shool that day to be at the BLACK STAR SQUARE
Me too, George, I ran away from my boarding house with a group of my classmates and made our way to the Black Star to experience this once in a lifetime thing!
@@george46995 What happen later?? Got an ass whipping?!
George Lutterodt, you were at the concert! Or the movie theater...
What a performance and a talent. There won't be another one like him, that's for sure.
Lord, have mercy! This is the best thing I have seen in a very long time. The synergy and energy were off the charts. The obvious joy he brought to those young people will last them a lifetime. May he rest in power.
Yes, so so true.
Couldn't agree with you more. Cant tell you how many times I put this video on replay. Enjoyed seeing those young gentlemen doing their thing on stage without any interruptions.
WILSON PICKETT AND HIS INCREDIBLE BAND .... SIMPLY AMAZING BEYOND WORDS!!!!!!!!!!
The crowds frenzy-engagement sent it 🚀!!! 🎶💃♥️
Wish the 3 gentleman on stage could talk about their experience on a Wilson Pickett documentary that's well over due because we need more than a 30 minute tribute in order to give MR. PICKETT his propers.
Where can I get a jumpsuit like Wilson's? I would pay a lot of $$$.
How can anyone give this a thumbs down is beyond me
Pure soul...nice tunes
Some suckers
Ain't got no soul
No soul
There are a holes everywhere. Good music will never die.
567 ppl need a soul transplant
From the film soul to soul. I was getting down in the aisle of the Uptown Theatre in Chicago, while he was doing this. People just lost it. One of the best petformances ever filmed.
im a white man who grew up in that time frame. I wont debate James Brown as Godfather of doul. all I will say is that we were so lucky to hear from a bunch of great singers. There is a reason this performer was known as The Wicked Wilson Picktt! This video removes any doubt. love them all!
Absolutely brilliant! Brings tears to my eyes!
Good day 😃
@Fiona Gold I'm in love, I found the one, danger zone, 99 1/2 won't do, Hey Jude, If you need me, jealous love, funky Broadway, etc.
@Fiona Gold Well, I don't do Facebook or any social media if that is what you were meaning by "chat aside".
Nothing like this stuff today's music needs a lesson
James Brown may have been The Godfather of soul but Wilson Picket was a soul singer
More like gospel. He brought the church "feeling" to the stage.
Gospel and soul! And it was FUNKY !
@@kellywillis8091 u
Otis Redding wasn't no slouch, either..
Amen.
Wilson did so many great songs it's hard to pick one Land Of 1000 Dances was one of the best..Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, She's Lookin Good and on and on
One of the greatest live performances ever!!!
Google advice, my friend.
Watching those guys dancing at the end, just makes my heart want to burst with joy! I wonder where they all are, now? ❤
Did I just witness one of the greatest live performances
ever?
that took awesome to levels unbeknownst to man!!
And they say elvis is the king...LOL
Wilson Picket the King of Rock and Soul!!!
Koolazz Fred
Yes you did.
yes
when an entertainer is "in the zone" and the crowd loves him/her they could sling pudding and talk mush and it would be great.. but it takes greatness to make that happen.. and here we are seeing some, from a guy who was one of the monsters of greatness.
You did Fred :-)
Yes.
I love it!!! The Soulful Wicked Wilson Pickett!!! Got me dancing on the couch at 2:00 in the morning! Wicked Wicked Wicked Get It Y’all!!!
Omg what an amazin piece of footage - epic.
what an amazing showman he has been. cant get enough out of this man. RIP King!!!!
Wow what a live performance! And what a band!
this is just GREATNESS! One of the greatest soul singers in front of an all-black audience. And that band can GO!!!! Shake what you brought wit ya!!!
I was the only white guy on Wilson's 1971 tour thru Dixie. I was his babe contracter. Some people are born with soul in their voice.
Hey, your a part of a legend in our hearts!
Those were the days. I know what you mean.
The wicked pickett,
Just loved his connection with the audience, and how happy he looks, what a voice, what a man.
