Around 10 years ago I loaned my DVD copy of this flick to a co-worker. He gave it back a couple of days later kind of pissed off that I had the audacity to foist a "musical" on him, he gave up on it the moment he realized it was a musical. Sheesh OK, yes, it is a musical, but every single scene is a comedy set-piece with top notch acting and musical talent. So well done and the music is woven into it all.
This is one of my all time favorite movies, in 1980 I was a 13 year old chubby white girl growing up in Maine and it introduced me to blues music. It's a love that I still have to this day, I had this soundtrack on cassette and I played it so much that I wore it out and had to buy another.
The guard who gives Jake his personal effects was played by Frank Oz. He also played the police officer who found the PCP in Louis's coat in Trading Places. But he is most famous for being the voice of Yoda, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear.
Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi both did their own vocals and dancing, and Belushi did all the gymnastics that Jake does throughout the film, as well. He even did the scene where he falls down the flight of stairs in the chair with the nun standing over him - that's all Belushi, no stunt doubles!
Did he do the gymnastics in the Triple Rock Church? There is maybe a bit of a continuity issue just after the backflips back toward Elwood but that may have just been to film from a different angle or to let him recover a bit. Either way fantastic dancing from both Belushi and Aykroyd (even if a bit strange).
@@richardanderson5424 lots and lots of car crashes, requiring lots and lots of stuntmen! I never said they did all their own *stunts*, just their own vocals, dancing, and Belushi did his own gymnastics and pratfalls. ;)
This film was a love letter to Chicago and to the legends of Blues, R&B and Jazz. It connects me to that place and time in a way that almost no other film does. So glad you got to enjoy it!!
I agree. When it first came out I thought it would NOT be a hit in any place BUT Chicago. So much "tongue in cheek" and scenes that, I thought, only Chicago people would "get".
What's amazing about this movie is that it started out as a SNL Skit that they would just pop on and play a couple of blues songs. It evolved into this film. Dan also knows how to play the Harmonica, beyond the dancing and singing.
True story: I played drums in dives and cowboy bars through the 60s into the 70s. We actually played a cowboy bar in Laramie, Wyoming with chicken wire front of the stage, played numerous gigs where they unplugged our amps & & barely missed a pitcher flying at my head in a G.I. strip joint. We regularly drank more beer than our door take. And those werent the worst times, lol. For me, the is a documentary! 🤣🤣🤣👍💯
I remember seeing their debut on Saturday Night Live, and later bought their first album. This movie has SO MANY INCREDIBLE stars, especially from the blues world, but also including R&B and jazz. This was an incredible movie, and so much fun. Some of the members of the band include Stax Records greats Steve Cropper (guitar) and Duck Dunn (bass,) who were probably best known as members of Booker T & the MGs. Matt "Guitar" Murphy is best known for his work with Memphis Slim and Howlin' Wolf. "Blue Lou" Marini is a long time session player, and long time member of the SNL Orchestra. He's best known for his appearance on SNL as a sax-playing mummy during Steve Martin's song "King Tut." But Lou has played on thousands of recordings over the years for artists from Aretha Franklin to Carly Simon, from Aerosmith to Frank Zappa!,
I was a teenager when this came out. Immediately afterwards, I got their Briefcase Full of Blues as one of my first albums. They did a great job of repopularizing blues music with a new generation.
"There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault I swear to god!!!" Jake begging for his life is my favorite scene in a movie full of hilarity. The way his voice breaks at the end 🤣🤣🤣 and then the eyebrow tip to see if it worked is perfect. Combined with Carrie Fisher having no dialogue until she confronts Jake 🤣🤣🤣 Reading the manual while her nails dry is iconic. RIP to Belushi and Fisher.
Belushi and Aykroyd made this movie because they loved the blues and were big fans of the musicians who played in it. When they are in the street you can tell by the look on their faces as they watch John Lee Hooker play. When I first saw this movie when it came out I had to find out who that guy in the street was which started my love of the blues. Hard to believe now but during the time the movie came out Blues was not popular and Blues artists were forgotten. This movie brought back their careers even James Brown and Aretha. Thanks
What the hell is everyone talking about? Led Zeppelin was doing nuthin’ but playing old Willie Dixon/ Muddy Waters songs as well as Cream, The Bryds, hell The Rolling Stones are named after a Muddy Waters lyric --Both the SF and the Long Beach blues festivals started in 77 and 80, not to mention that the ‘B’ in CBGB’s stands for Blues……..Linda F’ing Ronstrandt had a very bluesy hit with Blue Bayou it wasn’t all Disco
@@johnguzman7425 Yes all done by whte people! Of course blues influence was still in rock. The point is the original blues artists were not getting recognition in the late 70's. Average young person didnt know who John Lee Hooker was until Blues Brothers. Both Aretha and James Brown record sales declined. After the movie was released their careers came back.
In addition to all the well-known cameos and musicians, the band themselves are bonafide! Some of them were in Booker T and the MGs and played on a whole slew of other Stax Records artists' albums. This is one of thee best (and funniest) musicals ever made right here!
I grew up in the neighborhood in Chicago where they filmed at the orphanage. I remember walking down the block and watching them film. It's so great to see a reaction where the reactors really appreciate and enjoy the music. Thank you!
Fifty years old here. That's a lot of movies. The Blues Brothers is one of my top movies of all time. It's perfect. A true celebration and honor to blues royalty.
@@Serai3 Makes sense they'd tour together, Martin and Aykroyd and Belushi were all on the cast of Saturday Night Live together shortly before this movie, and "The Blues Brothers" actually started as an SNL sketch Aykroyd convinced Belushi to do with him by taking Belushi out to a couple live blues shows in and around New York.
I was a kid when they filmed this movie and they used several areas in my neighborhood. In fact, the beauty salon that Carrie Fisher was sitting in while doing her nails was kitty-corner across from my house. The whole neighborhood was out there to watch the filming but we didn't see any of the stars. This movie was HUGE in Chicago/Illinois, and I'm sure you can appreciate why. :)
My parent ran a small video store from our home in the early 80s, where people from our neighbourhood would come to rent movies and of course we had to "test watch" all the movies we had. This was (and still is) my absolute favourite and I've watched it literally dozens of times. It has everything: fantastic music, funny quotable lines, car chases, stars, unneccesary violence. It had a large influence on my musical taste and I will watch it whenever it comes by. ❤
If you love music, you can't help but love this movie. Belushi and Akroyd are pure comedic genius. "4 Fried Chickens and a Coke." The "Stand by your Man" scene cracks me up me every time.
The prison guard who returned all the belongings to Jake is actually Frank Oz, of the Muppets. He is the voice of characters such as Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and Yoda!
He was also the police officer in Trading Places who goes through the contents of Dan Ackroyd's stuff at booking. Similar role and gets screen time with Ackroyd.
O my goodness! I am so happy you reacted to this! I hope you enjoyed this as much as we did! Wonderful legends of music in this movie, Cab Calloway singing "Minnie the Moocher" John Lee Hooker singing "Boom Boom", James Brown in the church scene, Ray Charles singing "Shake Your Tail feather," Aretha Franklin singing "Think" a very young Carrie Fisher, you watched her in Star Wars as Princes Leia and a very young Steven Spielberg at the end of the movie! Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi bring it on in this movie! I'm looking forward to this reaction! ☮ and 💕
Yeah, so many people who do reactions do not realize that is Spielberg who works for the Cook County Assessors office who takes the $5,000 tax payment from the Blues Brothers.
John Belushi and Dan Akroyd were two of the first break away stars from the very first Saturday Night Live cast. They were HUGE. They debuted this Blues Brothers act on SNL and backed with some of the best session players from Muscle Shoals and Booker T. & the MG's band they had a killer sound.
Great reaction! Anytime you have James Brown, Aretha, Cab Calloway and John Candy in the same film, you have a gem of a movie. Hey BJ, you have a good voice. RIP Ray, Cab, Aretha and John (Candy & Belushi)!
My brother and I still do the "Four fried chickens... and a coke." "And some plain white toast." Right up there with "Give me all the eggs and bacon that you have."
@@melanieszelong4664my brother and I always do the orange whip line too😂😂😂😂 as well as “It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.” “Hit it!” Lmao
god, I loved this movie growing up. As a little kid in the 80s, I thought this was HILARIOUS. The car was held together with the power of their divine mission.. thats how they were able to escape like that.. so funny.. so classic.. and yes, Carry Fisher is, indeed, Princess Leia from Star Wars.
My dad introduced me to this as a kid. He always marveled at just how many cars were totaled making this film. That always stuck with me, and while I wish my dad was around to enjoy it with us I swear I could still hear him laughing when I first showed it to my kids. The soundtrack was like nothing I ever heard, and fell in love immediately. This was the first movie on DVD I ever got, and still have to this day.
My Dad rented this on VHS around 1982 when I was 12, to see me laugh, which I did, but it was the music that did it for me and influenced my life. Still my #1 film to this day.
The same with me. Out of all the absurdity of this film, the quality of the music takes the biscuit. My life changed the minute I saw the scene with John Lee Hooker.
Still one of the greatest movies of all time! This movie came from what was supposed to be only one time skit on SNL. But Belushi and Ackroyd found out how good they were. They toured until Belushi died. Now his brother Jim does the part of Jake Blues. I still to this day love the line when the chase begins. We're 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.... Hit it.
I still crack up at the good ole boys when they end up in the water and all pop up and Charles Napier just looks at the bar owner and says " Don't you say a F$cking Word "
Every musician in this is an ICON. The whole film is an homage to those masters. Aretha is in the movie. So are James Brown and Ray Charles. And so many more. ❤Cab Calloway!!!!is their buddy who tells them to go to church and then performs at the end. All stunt car driving in the epic chases. BJ , you crack me up😂😂😂😂 You can see Blue Lou on sax in the orchestra at all the Kennedy Center Honors shows!!!!!
Dan was really dancing like that, and John Belushi was really doing those flips. You can watch them perform on old Saturday Night Live clips. IIRC, they did two performances as "the Blues Brothers" on SNL. (And yes, that was Princess Leia.)
Their live album Briefcase Full of Blues is incredible. I listened to it constantly throughout the '80s and it introduced me to artists I likely never would have been exposed to.
Many years ago my band had some studio time booked. The guy who was recording before us was Matt Guitar Murphy. We got to meet him after his session and talk about the film. A really nice guy.
@@TTM9691 We told him we thought the movie was funny and the music was great. He told us how much fun they had making it. We all had a good laugh. Not a hint of "famous person" attitude.
I read an article written by Rolling Stone where lot of the musicians in the cast said that this movie revived their careers, and the blues and soul genre in general. Love this movie.
BJ getting down to some Raw Hide was hilarious. The zoom edit on the quivering mouth just made it all the more funny. Such a great reaction all round to a true classic. Worth a watch for all the legendary cameo's alone! ❤
"We are on a mission from God!" Is one of the most kick-ass lines in film history. 😂😁😂 And brilliant excuse to make a bit of noise, through the quest...😉🙃🤭😏
Hey there!! So, The Blues Brothers first performed on Saturday Night Live (Aykroyd and Belushi were both original - "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" - members of SNL) in 1978 in a music sketch. The act was VERY popular. Soon after the Blues Brothers put out an album which garnered a few singles on the Top 40 music list, "Soul Man" and "Rubber Biscuit". Because of their popularity, the movie was made (1980). It's a classic for the ages. Thanks for your reaction, love you guys. You always make me smile. :) And yes, Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia.
1980. A great year for films. 9-5, Ordinary People, Stir Crazy, Urban Cowboy, Little Darlings, Dressed to Kill, My Bodyguard, Private Benjamin, and Seems Like Old Times. I was 17 and we had our first double movie theatre open. I spent all my extra money on movies and concerts.
And The Shining. I remember I was 13 years old and very uncomfortable sitting next to my Mother watching it in the movie theater. I always thought 1980 was the best year for movies and music.
The Blues Brothers actually did musical tours after this movie came out and John Belushi absolutely did hand springs on stage. That big boy could move! Plus! The whole band were known famous musicians and actually played these songs! Dan Akroyd loves BLues music and he did this movie mostly for the music involved.
I was privileged to see the Blues Brothers in concert at the Universal Amphitheatre opening for Steve Martin. They rocked it live like they did in the movie.
I got to see them while they were on The Blues Brothers Tour in Chicago. Danny played his harmonica and John did summersaults down the aisle. It was awesome!!
Blues Brothers 2000, the 2nd movie, is worth watching just to see all those great vocalists, musicians, going to have to watch again and count. It is missing John Belushi who had sadly passed. It has its own place.
Carrie Fisher is Princess Leia. In an interview years later Dan Akroyd was asked about the making of Blues Brothers. He said it was one of the funnest movies he ever made. He also said he could not imagine making it with any other person than John Belushi. He said that he and John became very close friends while making this movie. He was asked to speak at John Belushi's funeral. In my humble opinion this movie has one of the best soundtracks ever created. So many great musicians, actors and actresses that will keep this movie a classic for the ages.
So many legendary singers in this film...Chaka Khan and James Brown ( Church service) , Ray Charles ( music store) John Lee Hooker ( street performer) Aretha Franklin ( cafe ), Cab Calloway ( Curtis), Steve Lawrence ( Maury in the sauna) . The best casting of course IMO was Steven Spielberg( Cook County clerk in tax office) AMD many more!
That mall chase scene was shot in a real mall, scheduled to be demolished after the movie. The studio had to fill the building with everything you saw in it. The scene gained so much attention that the mall was reopened for a few more years until it was demolished.
That mall was near where I lived & it was the talk of everyone in the area that our mall was the one in the movie The Blues Brothers. I was a very young little girl when the movie came out.
@DNulrammah exactly 💯 correct my fellow Blues Brothers fan/friend. I was raised close to that mall & as a little girl, I heard all the adults around me talking about the fact that our mall was in the Blues Brothers movie.
That's not correct. The Dixie Square Mall closed in 1978 and never reopened. There was controversy about the damage from the movie. I guess the damage prevented them from opening the mall again or being sold. After it was abandoned, it became a dangerous spot where drug users would go and shoot up. At least one person was murdered there before it was finally demolished.
Awesome music, great music!!!! I LOVE this movie! You can't sit still watching this. The Blues Brothers movie holds the record of how many wrecked vehicles in one movie. 104 car were wrecked. 60 of them were cops cars. Great reaction!
Hey, that kid in Ray's music shop who tried to steal the guitar off the wall and Ray shot at him? Remember the limo driver Argyle from Die Hard, De'voreaux White? Yeah, that was him when he was 13 years old.
My children were early teens on down when they first saw this movie. We had a great time watching for the stars and seeing who recognized them first. It was a great change of pace from Disney and Nickelodeon for us. And to this day when my oldest daughter is concentrating on a video game or something she will quietly start going “Hut, Hut, Hut.” under her breath. Bear in mind she’s in her middle thirties now so that shows how much the movie stuck with her. Watching you two enjoy the movie was almost like watching them for the first time again.
Sweet story. My family, too, have been recycling lines from this movie for decades. A family reunion wouldn’t be complete without a, “Didja get me my Cheese Whiz, boy?” Or… “who IS that girl?!?” Classic movie making.
I was a 70s child, 80s teen. Grew up on a farm in rural Oregon listening to country and classic rock (back then it was just rock) and this was my first introduction to the Blues. Been a huge Blues fan ever since.
That was The Blues Brothers actual band . And they actually put out a blues album. It was great ❤ . This movie came from a skit that they did when they were on Saturday Night Live.
Thanks and thumbs up, have a nice day. My father's favorite movie, he bought and paid for the VCR but he didn't know how to use it. I used to have to stick the Blues brother's tape in and hit play for him. If I remember correctly both the VCR and The Blues Brothers tape had both "fallen off the back of a truck".
Yes!!! You were on a mission from God!! 😎 I am SO happy that you watched this absolute classic, one of my all-time favorite movies!! Besides being a phenomenal movie, it has what I believe is the best movie soundtrack ever. Dan Aykroyd has always been a huge blues fan, and he assembled an incredible group of musicians, from the band to the guest stars. I was in a Blues Brothers band in college (I was Elwood, my friend Steve was Jake), and we tried to learn all of Aykroyd and Belushi's dance moves. I will never get tired of watching this gem!! Oh, and Asia, every time you say "You are lying!" brings me great joy. 😊 Thanks for continuing to be my favorite reactor couple!!
I was 11years old when I saw this movie and I think every kid should. Wonderful intro to adult humor with Great music awesome comedy. Watch it 3 times over a months time. You will enjoy and find the little things you missed. Top 3 movie of all times.
Fantastic reaction, guys. As always, I wish I could've seen this in the same theater with you two. Times have changed a lot since _The Blues Brothers_ was released. In 1980, disco was thriving and R&B and blues were considered dead by the recording industry. Ray Charles was doing well but that was recording country western. MCA Universal refused to release the soundtrack because they said that nobody but old Black people would buy it. John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd were ahead of the curve rediscovering all these wonderful artists from the '60s and thanks to this movie, James Brown and Aretha and John Lee Hooker all had a major renaissance.
You should research the members of the band. They were all talented musicians. Great movie, excellent soundtrack!! I was 14 when this came out, it opened me up to so much different music.

There is maybe a bit of a continuity issue just after the backflips back toward Elwood but that may have just been to film from a different angle or to let him recover a bit. Either way fantastic dancing from both Belushi and Aykroyd (even if a bit strange).
@@richardanderson5424 yep, Belushi did ALL of his gymnastics, flips, cartwheels, etc. :)
Have you noticed in the closing credits how many stuntmen there were? It’s crazy!
@@richardanderson5424 lots and lots of car crashes, requiring lots and lots of stuntmen! I never said they did all their own *stunts*, just their own vocals, dancing, and Belushi did his own gymnastics and pratfalls. ;)
@@TheAlmaward ✌️
Dan Aykroyd's harmonica is also legendary. This movie is great with the talent. And yes, Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia.
The car chase through the mall, and Aretha delivering her best rendition of THINK alone make this movie worth watching over and over again.
That mall was near my house.
This film was a love letter to Chicago and to the legends of Blues, R&B and Jazz. It connects me to that place and time in a way that almost no other film does. So glad you got to enjoy it!!
Blues Brothers 2000 is even crazier with the blues artists.
I agree. When it first came out I thought it would NOT be a hit in any place BUT Chicago. So much "tongue in cheek" and scenes that, I thought, only Chicago people would "get".
I used to go to a Baptist church on the southside of Chicago, the way they show it in the movie is accurate.
What's amazing about this movie is that it started out as a SNL Skit that they would just pop on and play a couple of blues songs. It evolved into this film. Dan also knows how to play the Harmonica, beyond the dancing and singing.
And not just play the harmonica, he's very skilled on the harmonica. Up there with guys like John Popper from Blues Traveler.
They even put out an album before they did the movie--one of my first pieces of vinyl, and one of the last I gave up.
They were really preformaing as the Blues Brothers before this film.
And their band is made up of actual musicians, can't forget about that.
@@AbolitionistPrivateer Including the soundtrack, they did 4 albums.
He's best known for his appearance on SNL as a sax-playing mummy during Steve Martin's song "King Tut." But Lou has played on thousands of recordings over the years for artists from Aretha Franklin to Carly Simon, from Aerosmith to Frank Zappa!,
Last year I went to James Taylor’s annual concert at Tanglewood. Blue Lou played sax in the band
Worked with Blue Lou in studio. Great guy And he taught me about micing his sax.
I met Blue Lou in Santorini back in the mid-1980s!
I was a teenager when this came out. Immediately afterwards, I got their Briefcase Full of Blues as one of my first albums. They did a great job of repopularizing blues music with a new generation.
This movie is a bonafide CLASSIC 🫵😎👍
"There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault I swear to god!!!"
Jake begging for his life is my favorite scene in a movie full of hilarity.
While she's doing her nails, notice her smock says "Curl up and Dye". There's a salon by that name on Clark near the Wrigleyville neighborhood.
I think it's also the only time in the entire movie you see either of them without the sunglasses.
We use this line all.the time in our family, lol
Belushi and Aykroyd made this movie because they loved the blues and were big fans of the musicians who played in it. When they are in the street you can tell by the look on their faces as they watch John Lee Hooker play. When I first saw this movie when it came out I had to find out who that guy in the street was which started my love of the blues. Hard to believe now but during the time the movie came out Blues was not popular and Blues artists were forgotten. This movie brought back their careers even James Brown and Aretha. Thanks
Yep, at that time disco was still all the rage.
Blues was not forgotten, just put aside for disco, metal, and rap, all vastly inferior music to my ears. Sorry, not sorry.

Man they put out albums and toured. They were a legit badass blues band!
I got to see them open for Steve Martin, who was even bigger than they were. Dam, that was one awesome show.
@@TehFrenchy29 Yeah, I watched all those shows when they aired. Thus my presence at their show.
This is a wonderful live action cartoon, and musical…
I have 3 of their albums, a buddy of mine has their 4th, and won't sell it to me!
YES!!! This is when it ALL comes together. All those music reactions are gonna PAYOFF. This movie is a national treasure.
Galactic treasure! After all, Princess Leia and Yoda are in it.
Then "Officer Piggy" moved Philadelphia to work in booking. "One cellophane bag."
"Without your dry white toast...without your fo fried chickens..."
Don’t forget the dry toasted white bread lol
The prison guard who returned all the belongings to Jake is actually Frank Oz, of the Muppets. He is the voice of characters such as Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and Yoda!
He was also the police officer in Trading Places who goes through the contents of Dan Ackroyd's stuff at booking. Similar role and gets screen time with Ackroyd.
@@SurvivorBri "It's an OP-era!"
And Grover. That explains the joke when the customer holding a Grover doll asked if they had Miss piggy. Oz did BOTH their voices. Also Yoda
.
John Lee Hooker too!
And somehow everyone forgets that the Great Chaka Khan was singing in the choir right behind James Brown 😉😏💯
The theme from Peter Gunn blaring in the background always makes me smile.
It's the Girl from Ipanema playing in the elevator for me!
My brother and I still do the "Four fried chickens... and a coke." "And some plain white toast." Right up there with "Give me all the eggs and bacon that you have."
We always say orange whip? orange whip? three orange whips! when we sit down at a restaurant before the waitress comes
@@melanieszelong4664 LOL! Omg... Now you have me thinking about "Dewey Oxburger." "As you might have noticed, I have a SMALL weight problem..."

I love "How much for the little girl?? The women...how much for the women?". We still quote that allllll the time.
Oh yeah... we did "and a coke" as well.
god, I loved this movie growing up. As a little kid in the 80s, I thought this was HILARIOUS. The car was held together with the power of their divine mission.. thats how they were able to escape like that.. so funny.. so classic.. and yes, Carry Fisher is, indeed, Princess Leia from Star Wars.
oooh now that I think of it it's a bit of a Millennium Falcon!!!
Hit it.
Can't believe they cut it down to just "Hit it" in the video!
BJ , you crack me up😂😂😂😂
You can see Blue Lou on sax in the orchestra at all the Kennedy Center Honors shows!!!!!
This is one of these movies that, no matter how bad your mood, always will cheer you up with its lightheartedness, great music and fun setpieces.
You guys might be the most genuine reactors on RUclips. Definitely one of my favorites.
You two are a hoot! "That car is Dukes of Hazzard equipped", had me laughing out loud. That was fun.
Remember, they were on a mission from God!
The Bluesmobile was the third Blues Brother. That's why it could backflip like Jake.
I love them
Many years ago my band had some studio time booked.
@@TTM9691 Sometimes you get lucky.
"We are on a mission from God!"
Is one of the most kick-ass lines in film history. 😂😁😂
And brilliant excuse to make a bit of noise, through the quest...😉🙃🤭😏
There's so many musical greats in this movie, plus Princess Leia.
And yes, Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia.
My favorite movie of all time ! Glad you guys enjoyed it !
It's so funny seeing Asia try to place Carrie Fisher! I swear, her and BJ always gets so close and end up second guessing themselves!
I saw all those movies in the theatre. You forgot to say the biggest movie of 1980, "The Empire Strikes Back"!
@@reesebn38 ah yes another great one!

Yes guys, Aretha is singing

I was privileged to see the Blues Brothers in concert at the Universal Amphitheatre opening for Steve Martin. They rocked it live like they did in the movie.
I got to see them while they were on The Blues Brothers Tour in Chicago. Danny played his harmonica and John did summersaults down the aisle. It was awesome!!
shew the Blues Brothers AND THEN Steve Martin, what a show im sure
Blues Brothers 2000, the 2nd movie, is worth watching just to see all those great vocalists, musicians, going to have to watch again and count. It is missing John Belushi who had sadly passed. It has its own place.
The fact that BJ is on the same mental wavelength with the blues brothers makes me so happy, lmao
John Landis made a musical, not only with dance numbers but with chase scenes that were dance numbers. Unreal.
Asia's laughter during this movie was everything! So delightful. :) One of my favorite movies; so glad y'all reacted to it! :D
This movie also serves as a love letter to Chicago. If you’re from there, everything is recognizable and part of Chicago cultural lore.
The Dixie Square Mall. Eventually it was torn down.
@DNulrammah exactly 💯 correct my fellow Blues Brothers fan/friend. I was raised close to that mall & as a little girl, I heard all the adults around me talking about the fact that our mall was in the Blues Brothers movie.
That mall scene cost the mayor her job too. 40:09
My dad used to work across the street from that mall. The production company bought it just to film that scene before it was demolished.
Dixie Square Mall… I remember going to that mall once or twice as a kid. ✌️
As A little white kid growing up in the lat 80s this was such a great introduction to all these artists, and I have loved blues ever since.
A family reunion wouldn’t be complete without a, “Didja get me my Cheese Whiz, boy?” Or… “who IS that girl?!?” Classic movie making.
the blues brothers started out as a S.N.L. skit ... what started as a joke, turned into an overnight sensation !!
Yep. I was there and I remember. RIP John!
One of my fav movies of all times. The best example we have readily available showcasing the genius of John Belushi and for that matter Akroid
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but all of those guys are real musicians. Like LEGENDS
I was a 70s child, 80s teen. Grew up on a farm in rural Oregon listening to country and classic rock (back then it was just rock) and this was my first introduction to the Blues. Been a huge Blues fan ever since.
The love put into this movie is obvious. Not just a funny comedy with engaging characters, but also great music and tons of stunt work. Who does that?
That was The Blues Brothers actual band . And they actually put out a blues album. It was great ❤ . This movie came from a skit that they did when they were on Saturday Night Live.
The first guy was Cab Calloway, and Shaka Khan in the choir...AND the queen of soul herself.
" We're on a mission from God....", such a great line, many in this film. Great music and message, "Do you see the light...what light😅"

The Tax Assesser at the end was Stephen Spielberg. 😂😂 Frank Oz was the jail clerk. 😂😂
"Animal House" (1979) should be done right after (or right before) this movie, but nobody has done it yet.
Yes, but times are worse, now. All the people want is rap and hip hop😢
John Lee Hooker's appearance alone makes this movie all time great
It was because of John Lee in this movie that really got me interested in blues. LOVE that voice of his.
This movie might not be in my top 5 best ever, but I've watched it more than any other. It's just so rewatchable, it never gets old! 😁
John Landis who directed Blues Brothers also directed Michael Jackson's Thriller video. ❤️
You should research the members of the band. They were all talented musicians. Great movie, excellent soundtrack!! I was 14 when this came out, it opened me up to so much different music.
