Great video on what is often viewed as a complicated job for the DIYer but this makes it all much more doable. One thing I was always told with regards to autobox work was that absolute cleanliness is essential and even a small amount of foreign material that gets in the internals can be very damaging so this means cleanliness around the filler plug and ideally a garage and not the driveway where any wind could blow anything into the exposed underside when the filter is off.
Very much agree - keeping clean is important. I wouldn’t be very keen to tackle this job on the drive. You can probably tell by the grey hair - I’m a bit past drive way repairs unless absolutely essential. 🫠
That is interesting Rob - why did you have 2 done? Most L322’s are lucky to see one gearbox service in their life time! Do you know what type of fluid was used? Did you have some symptoms that prompted you to do a second flush?
@ Hi. I did the first one at 83K on purchase and then another at 120K as a maintenance one. I was going to keep it long time but a new Defender 90 lured me with its 350bhp 🤣🤪
Great video, you explained the process brilliantly to the point that a novice like myself would be confident about tackling the change, you said in the video that you were giving away the Toodin scanner, what do we need to do to enter for this, many thanks James, keep up the great content and I promise I will be contacting you soon for an L322 purchase.
Great video. I had mine mega flushed last year and insisted the correct ZF fluid was used. They just put that in the machine and then completed the work.
@ not sure of the name but it would have been one of the “cheaper alternatives”. I was happy to pay more for a better quality fluid. Like you said transmission fluid isn’t one of the areas you’d want to cut corners on 👍🏻
Thanks - yes that’s a good shout - it’s a similar but slightly different procedure being a ZF6. Interestingly the ZF manual for oil change on the ZF6 is very specific about not using a flushing machine! The 3.6 also has a mystery coolant leak I’m trying to hunt down (and turn into a RUclips video! 🤣)
Hi James - the ones that don’t get sold through the Channel find their way to eBay: www.ebay.co.uk/usr/fullfat4x4 probably best if you email me at fullfat4x4@gmail.com - I have a grey Westminster coming through soon ish.
Great informative video. Every auto car I’ve bought, I always get a gearbox service done. Last one was a zf box in a bmw 5 series.

Brilliant video 😊 I had a Bodsy Megaflush done twice in 6 years but he’s an expert and would not let anyone else do it

Do you know what the default fluid would have been had you not insisted on lifeguard 8?

Hey james, another great video to your collection🙂
Just an idea for content would be a similar video on your 3.6 TDV8 👍
Keep up the great work🤙

You certainly know your stuff.
That’s one way of putting it - I’m acutely aware that I should probably join a “Dull men’s club” 😬
Great video any 5.0 s coming in stock ?
Becoming harder to find nice examples Andrew - hopefully I’ll take another in to stock at some point soon.
@ be keen to hear if you do !!
James … I’m also called James. Where so you advertise your cars for sale, can’t find a website or a otherwise? Cheers
