    The 10 mm has more energy at 100 yards than a 45 ACP has at the barrel. That is more than just a little more power.

    If you want the Glock 21 in 0.45" ACP, but want the power of 10mm. Just get it set up for 0.45" Super. I think you just need a different recoil set-up. You could also convert your Glock 21 to 0.460" Rowland then shoot 0.44" Magnum level of power, and also be able to shoot 0.45" Super, and the old trusty 0.45" ACP. So I mean you defintely have options. A 0.45" ACP doesnt have to just be 230 grains at 850 FPS. You can shoot a 250 grain at 1300 or so FPS with a 0.460" Rowland conversion on either the Glock 21, or M1911A1. Talk about a "sleeper" gun.

    Good stuff. G29 is a spring woods gun for me at times up here in the North woods. Black bear sow can be testy if you cross her Cubs when we are working in the woods. I use to carry a 3" 629 44 magnum. The G29 is a bulky, blocky auto but much more convenient to carry than an N frame revolver. The 10 is definitely not a 44 magnum but you get 11 rounds of manageable large caliber with good energy and penetration.

    So the only reason to choose the 45 over 10mm is the lower recoil? People keep saying 10mm is more powerful but why can't a 45 round be okay for both hunting AND home defense? The 10mm Auto isn't just for hunting or bear protection. Don't forget the 10mm Auto was designed as a duty cartridge. By the 1980s, even big proponents of the .45 ACP, like Jeff Cooper, knew we could do better. The 10mm Auto was designed to address deficiencies of the .45 as a service round. Everything the .45 can do, the 10mm can do better, because that is why it was created. The FBI tested and adopted the 10mm Auto in the aftermath of the Miami Dade shootout, and they concluded the 10mm performed better than any other round they tested, including the .45 ACP. I carry my 10mm in the woods and the hoods. My Glock 20 is my EDC. I stoke it with Underwood 200 gr XTPs and carry with confidence, because having killed several deer with it, I know how this load performs on tissue, and I know I can hit with it when I need to.

      @Jrsydevil7 2 года назад +1

      @@Fer1988arg Yes, I've done it. Same concept as .38spl out of a .357mag. .40S&W came from 10mm.... Kinda, sorta. I'm pretty sure that there was a round originally called the .40G&A back in the day. It pretty much fell off the market and then when the FBI tried their 10mm stint back in the day, I think Winchester & S&W came together and took 10mm bullets, sized the casings down and loaded them to fit into a 9mm frame. The funny thing was that year for SHOT Show rumor has it that Gaston Glock walked by the S&W booth and saw the "new .40S&W rounds," pocketed a few, flew back to Austria, reverse engineered the rounds, started making ".40S&W" ammo, I assume with shaved down 10mm casing, and made the Glock 22 before S&W had a gun chambered in their own round. But yes .40S&W will shoot out of a 10mm with no modifications, at least out of Glocks. .40S&W is basically like a 10mm Kurz (which is 10mm Short, which is also not a real thing), i.e. it's basially just a short 10mm, it fits in the same magazine and everything, it just has more space at the front of the magazine. I have yet to try this out of a 1911 or any other one of the new 10mm handguns that have come out as of lately. (as of Aug 2022)

    also consider the fact that even though the 10mm will punch harder, itll also go right through very similar to a magnum round. the .45s recoil will be much more controllable, and since the bullet is known to be heavy and slower, itll likely dump almost all if not all of its energy inside the target rather than passing through. you get 2 rounds more with the 10mm i believe, compared to 13 rounds of the .45 glock. the .45s likely to be cheaper to train with, easier to find ammo, and becauase of that and the fact that it likely dump ALL of its energy into the target without over penetration, id consider it the best round for quick, powerful rounds that wont over penetrate. dont tell me that 9 is the same as .45 with modern bullet ballistics, because even though they may perform very similarly terminally, the fact of the matter is PHYSICS will always be in favor of the .45 since a bigger bullet wil always make a bigger hole, and if its heavier, it will crush bones with greater force. a good quality 230 jhp will undoubtedly do greater damage than a 147 grain 9mm jhp of proportional quality.

If you are a reloader, there's no reason not to choose the 20. Factory 10mm ammo is out there, but it isn't nearly as common as 45. Either choice is excellent, it just boils down to how you acquire your ammo.

      You need the Barrel, Spring and Magazine for the 10mm. You can go .45 to 10, but can't make a 10 into a .45. Similar to how you can convert a .40 into a 9, but can't convert the 9 into a .40. There is a slightly different extractor for between the 10 and .45, but it'll work(for the most part) and not 100% reliable if you don't switch them out also. Nice comparison as always. Just so you know, I averaged up all of the calibers listed on ballistic101.com's website a couple of years ago, and the average muzzle energy for each caliber was as follows:
    .380 ACP- 217 ft. lbs.,
    38 Special- 260 ft. lbs.,
    9MM LUGER- 379 ft. lbs.,
    .40 S&W- 447,
    .45 AUTO- 447,
    .45 GAP- 448,
    .357 SIG- 526 ft. lbs.,
    357 MAGNUM- 574 ft. lbs.,
    10mm- 650, and
    .44 Mag- 964.
    As you can see there is only a difference of 103 ft. lbs. on average between .45 ACP and 10mm, so the difference is not nearly as extreme as you stated. Yes, it's significant, but no, it is nowhere near double on average. However, you can certainly find 10mm rounds that are double some weak .45 ACP loads, but the averages tell a different story.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  4 года назад +2

      Thank you.
      Unfortunately, this is a case where averages can be misleading due to the nature of the various calibers.
      .45 acp, .40 S&W and some other calibers have a "narrow range" where the min and max are fairly close together (so an average works pretty good). One of the big limitations is that the caliber is designed to be slower, using lighter bullets and other tricks to make it faster tends to make it less accurate as the rifling is usually optimized for the 230gr bullet going slower.
      10 mm has a fairly wide range, going from weak range ammo not even as potent as .40 S&W to some pretty serious loads. Underwood has a factory load that is 774 ft/lb and is still inside SAAMI. That is almost 75% more muzzle energy than .45 acp (as an example).

      This is bad info.
      10mm is loaded on such a broad spectrum that making an average is just silly.
      Hammer Striker already put it perfectly in his reply.
      Full house vs full house, 10mm is just shy of being twice as powerful as .45 ACP.
      .40 S&W (essentially 10mm Short) even outclasses .45 ACP in most situations.
      45 ACP can be a fine round in it's own right, but it shouldn't even be in the same discussion as 10mm when discussing powerful handgun cartridges.

    45 acp is one of my favorite cartridges, it's designed for close up,50 yards or less, and two legged animals,that's what it was (45) designed for and that big bullet delivers it's energy on target, beyond that could still work out, but I like it for close encounters and home defensive situation (CQB) started shooting 38 special mod 60 chiefs spl at 5and6 years old and 357 magnum colt trooper at 6 and 1911s at 9 and larger at 10 , 357 and 45 are my favorites followed by 44 magnum and special, and 41 magnum and 327 and 32 magnums , they all have a certain niche and use, but a45 has power on target and a less likely chance of overpenatration at close ranges, have carried various calibers in the military and law enforcement, only rounds i have not tried, but maybe 🤔 one day is a 500 magnum and a 45 GAP , and very little of 460 magnum and 454 casull , although I like the 460 mag, and its ability to use the 454 casull and 45 long colt , a very versatile pistol like my 327 magnum that can also use 32 magnum and 32 long , and 32 short and in a pinch 32 acp, but some guns can double has a survival and a defensive purpose tool,if i was in Alaska, north or South Dakota, Montana, i would definitely have a 460 magnum,10 mm and a 357magnum and a 327 magnum , they would cover the defence and survival situation and some type of a 22 lr or 22 magnum and a 12 gauge shotgun, anything 9 mm and lower for back up, worked with some of my law enforcement colleagues that have used 9 mm in shooting scenarios and the perpetrator was not stopped with 6 or more rounds and was able too still be combative , untill they were stopped and dropped with a 12 gauge, back in the 80s
    But I like all caliber pistols and rifles they have a place if used for intended purposes and some emergency situations, until you get a better or fight your way for a better choice of fire arm, but it's better to have a good choice fire arm has a good choice like a 357 magnum or a 45 acp a 357 sig or a 40 s&w🤔💯a 45 Acp and a 12 gauge are excellent for home defense and a 9 mm for back up or secondary😅

      Why not the XR? My thinking is 10mm your more likely to make longer more precise shots, maybe for hunting. I can understand HDs for the G21 but I think you did your self an injustice going with the HDs on the 20. I have sets of both on my different glocks and I notice a difference when trying to make those longer shots and the front sight on the HD makes it harder. My favorite site for my 9mms and 40s are the “bright and tough” model of trijicons.

    10 mm is an expensive caliber to train no matter where you look at it.
    As I live in the other side of the world .45 ACP Glock 21 SF is the one to pick.

    Unless you're shooting Underwood or Buffalo Bore ammo, you aren't getting the 10mm velocities that you mentioned. I have tested every major manufacturer on the market, and the average velocity for 180 gr. FMJ or JHP offerings average 1100 FPS MAX. So, unless you are loading your own and tested them, or shooting Buffalo Bore or Underwood ammo .... you aren't getting the velocities you mentioned. Hornady and Remington Ammo is the Worst ammo for misadvertising velocities.

      All of our comparisons involving 10mm chrono is done with Underwood 180gr or 200gr. There are a few others that come close, but Underwood is the gold standard for 10mm (and several other calibers as well).
