I had a '97, bought new in '98. Just an amazing, powerful, sophisticated machine. I'm one of the few that preferred the stock exhaust. Something about the symmetry of having two exhausts appeals to me, as do the plain, shiny stock mufflers. The stock exhaust might be heavy but the XX has more than enough power to carry it. So great to see someone appreciate these beautiful bikes. Wish Honda would bring it back. :(

@@jerryglennie5375 Really ? These are available in my neck of the woods. Most seems to be well taken care of too. The problem is people asking too much for it because it's so well taken care of. I think these in good condition with lower mileage (below 30k miles) should go for 4000$ to 5500$. They are well worth it. Now the decision is to go with Carb or FI. Some BB enthusiasts prefer carbs. But, FI's have clear benefits too. I have a '99 early FI with analog gauge. Be ready to wrench a bit tho. These are 20 year old bikes. My vacuum tubes and other rubber bits are starting to crack despite being stored in climate controlled storage all it's life and having only 2300 miles when I bought it.
I would leave it as it is apart from higher rear biased handlebar risers or something and seat cover, rear Ventura rack/ bag for long distance touring. You probably should replace the twenty year old tyres, coolant, brake fluid, and fork oil. Sure soften the suspension a bit

Haha. Good to see. My example is a Candy Phoenix Blue x5 is sitting in my garage and hasn't been touched (or started) in 11 years (mostly down to a failed useless Datatool s3 alarm). It grieves me because it's probably the best all round motorcycle I ever had and I started riding in 1966. It's only got just over 13k (UK) miles on it and it would be nice to ride it again but I guess the cost of resurrecting it would be more than it's worth. Sad really.

I've got a 2002 one and shes that sexy blue - what a joy she really is to look at and to ride.
So good bike , have 2001.y same color ,silver frame & wheels , 44 k Km , std exhaust .
I recently purchased the 1999 model with 44,000km in the same condition and colour as yours. Look forward to following your progress. Amazing bikes

Sadly these are ridiculously impossible to find in the US. Definitely a dream of mine to get one to daily

I bought a blue one a month ago from '00 with a mileage of 9500 km in almost factory condition. The price I paid was 5k euros.
That Akrapovic exhaust is super.
