I'm a swimmer myself and when I saw this I literally cried because for most swimmers growing up he is your idol
And for the non-swimmers he's also an idol, I was a kid's swimmer, but afterwards I dedicated myself to the MTB downhill, and he's still my inspiration.
Full agreement, he inspires me to push on whenever it gets tough in the water and out.

as an athlete in general michael was the greatest inspiration for everybody, many people say beijing was his greatest gig, but for me RIO 2016 proved that he was the greatest of all time.......in any sport

I tend to come back to this every couple of years after hearing this song. Man, this is so freaking good.
1:00 highly underrated shot and I would argue the most important in the entire commercial. We see his coach and (I would assume) his friends/family/audience through the water or through the lens of what his life is built around. Very powerful, especially if you’re in the sport and realize the effect it has on your social/personal life

Its not underrated my friend, most people recognize this as the most introspective shot of the entire commercial. lol
His scene looking at the pool full of leaves is also very impactful!
I personally feel that the shot after it is more important, we see him drowning in the work he has done. he cant possibly stand to keep bottling up all his pain, and cant take the constant routine of training 3 times a day every day for 6 years.

I come back to watch this ad atleast 5 days every week, sometimes multiple times a day. It's often the first thing I see in the morning, and reminds me of the importance of doing the monotonous tasks, every single day. This tradition is only 4,5 month old and will likely live for a very long time. Rule Yourself.

People don’t see the sacrifice, and for him it was more immense than most people can even imagine

That he paid off on this spot, with his final Olympics achievements, makes this all the more incredible to watch. I still get goosebumps watching it...

This is beyond any comparison with other ads. The choice of shots, music, deep meaning that goes beyond one sport but rather pertains to life philosophy, causes chills, watery eyes and captures that spirit you want to embrace. Really makes you want to have UA gear. Ad making level World Champion.
I saw this once when it came out and I still remember the brand, the song and the message. This one has had more impact on me than most other things I ever saw.

If we were to compare Michael’s achievements with Usain Bolt’s for instance, it’d be like Bolt winning Olympic gold in 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500. A tough question though - who’s the greatest athlete of all time… Steve Redgrave / Michael Jordan / Eddie Merckx / Mat Fraser / Tia-Clair Toomey. Who knows!

I would listen to this commercial every day when I was younger. It spoke to me and motivated me, now finding it again years and years later, I have that same feeling again.
