Inspirational Swimming Video Featuring Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Ian Thorpe, Cesar Cielo, Alain Bernard, James Magnusson, Nathan Adrian.
I hated every minute of training, but I said, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."
"Rise and shine.
6am and your hand can't make it to the alarm clock before the voices in your head start telling you that it's too early, too dark, and too cold to get out of a bed.
Aching muscles lie still in rebellion, pretending not to hear your brain commanding them to move
A legion of voices are shouting their unanimous permission for you to hit the snooze button and go back to dreamland, but you didn't ask their opinion.
The voice you've chosen to listen to is one of defiance.
A voice that's says there was a reason you set that alarm in the first place. So sit up, put your feet on the floor, and don't look back because we've got work to do.
Welcome to The Grind!
For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way, 10,000 streams fan out like a river delta before you, Each one promising the path of least resistance.
Thing is, you're headed upstream. And when you make that choice, when you decide to turn your back on what's comfortable and what's safe and what some would call "common sense", well that's day 1. From there it only gets tougher.
So just make sure this is something you want. Because the easy way out will always be there, ready to wash you away, all you have to do is pick up your feet.
But you aren't going to are you?
With each step comes the decision to take another
You're on your way now
But this is no time to dwell on how far you've come. You're in a fight against an opponent you can't see
Oh but you can feel him on your heels can't you?
Feel him breathing down your neck
You know what that is? That's you...Your fears, your doubts and insecurities all lined up like a firing squad ready to shoot you out of the sky
But don't lose heart
While they aren't easily defeated, they are far from invincible
Remember this is The Grind
The Battle Royale between you and your mind, your body and the devil on your shoulder who's telling you that this is just a game, this is just a waste of time, your opponents are stronger than you.
Drown out the voice of uncertainty with the sound of your own heartbeat
Burn away your self doubt with the fire that's beneath you
Remember what you're fighting for
And never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress, She can turn on a dime with the smallest mistake.
She is ever searching for that weak place in your armor
That one tiny thing you forgot to prepare for
So as long as the devil is hiding the details, the question remains,"is that all you got?", "are you sure?"
And when the answer is "yes". That you've done all you can to prepare yourself for battle THEN it's time to go forth and boldly face your enemy, the enemy within
Only now you must take that fight into the open, into hostile territory
You're a lion in a field of lions
All hunting the same elusive prey with a desperate starvation that says VICTORY is the only thing that can keep you alive
So believe that voice that says " you CAN run a little faster " and that " you CAN throw a little harder " and that " you CAN dive a little deeper" and that, for you, the laws of physics are merely a suggestion.
Luck is the last dying wish of those who wanna believe that winning can happen by accident, sweat on the other hand is for those who know it's a choice, so decide now because destiny waits for no man. And when your time comes and a thousand different voices are trying to tell you you're not ready for it, listen instead for that lone voice in decent the one that says you are ready, you are prepared, it's all up to you now.
So rise and shine.

This whole speech should be made into an alarm clock.

Little Monster link please?
Robin van Bruggen
it's this one. i got it from youtube. this link. :)
***** i know! lol
I started swimming a few weeks ago, it takes me 45 seconds for 25m. I suck but tomorrow I'll suck less.
Making the little changes will lead to huge spurts! Have hope! Simple changes to your stroke, kick, how many times you breathe, where you hand enters and exits the water, your head position and rotation, and ankle flexibility. Making little changes will boost you quickly and is rewarding, but be hopeful, it may take time!
Thank you for the encouragement. I am determined. I *will* finish this year with a triathlon under my belt.
Hey man, keep it up
Also, there are lots of youtube videos teaching how to swim better, learn a good crawl first. Also, look for a good diet, specially before the train. With this few tips, your time will be 30s in a week
Good luck ;D
It's ok, everyone is like that in the beginning. Legendary swimmers were just like that when there were just starting. You got this.
It will hurt somedays. You will feel like giving up. Don't. If you need to catch your breath during a set or take a rest day that is ok. But always have your goals in your mind.
9yrs later still here!
"The laws of physics are merely a suggestion". BEST. LINE. EVER.
I keep coming back to this video every now and then for motivation. # still here 2022
I do the same :)
Me too my friend
one thing people should remember though: motivation is fleeting, discipline is something that will actually get you out of bed. don't rely on something fleeting.
You are absolutely 100% correct...Discipline is where it's at...always
You are definitely right, motivational videos can certainly do the trick sometimes when you need a kickstart… Nothing wrong with that, I've seen some great ones on RUclips!
Most certainly, discipline it what gets you going for the long mile, motivation is fleeting. But don't underestimate motivation;its what causes you to go the extra mile,to reach a new high. The mistake people make is that they substitute motivation for discipline. What i'm trying to say is that you start with discipline, motivation comes later.
You are most certainly right... Although often it happens in reverse for me, it's discipline that gets me to new breakthroughs/milestones as motivation quite often never shows up.
Motivation should supplement discipline but never ever be expected to replace it.
Motivation is so fleeting... one day the planets may align, you get a full undisturbed nights sleep, great nutrition etc and you wake up full of motivation to take on anything... but 30 minutes into a hard workout, run, work day etc its discipline that's pulling you through!
Motivation is what gets you started, determination is what makes you keep going.
I used to swim a lot back in the days. Waking up at 5am, doing a practice, school, short nap and evening practice. I had this motivational speech on my alarm clock.
I consider this the best motivational speech out there for swimmers.
I am 27 now and all i do now is 1 practice per week swimming just because i like it. I kinda miss that motivation i had for swimming.
Arnas Sedlevicius same!! I stopped swimming after college- used to be at (low haha) state champ level, esp in hs. But now just moved near a Y with the pool and trying to self motivate. Barely started and having a hard time practicing by myself today. I was looking for this video i remembered from highschool; my mom would play it for me in the morning back then before meets.

My goldfish watched this video he's now a killer whale.
Certainly motivational to say the least. At 6am I’ve already been up an hour; meditated, yoga and breathing, ready for my workout, run or swim (alternating) but still I need little video clips like this to remind me why I do it. For me, it’s because during and after; I feel alive! I’m 71 years young and will continue to feel this great wonderment of life as I jog through the forest and smell the musty beautiful earth and hear the birds sing, or the great aliveness and accomplishment of having a great workout or refreshing swim. I’m not a competitor athlete but this made me smile and eggs me on to yet another day. Weekends off ;-)
I love how you said 71 years young

God bless!

I am 52 years old, learned to swim 2 years ago.
When I first started lessons, I could only swim half a lap. Now I am doing 42 laps in an hour- not bad! And I'm alternating strokes! My 20 year old and, who used to team swim in high school has trouble now doing 50 laps! Shows how fast someone can get out-of-shape. I'm going to keep swimming until I can't anymore!
that's the spirit
I set my alarm clock 3 minutes and 24 seconds earlier each morning so I can listen to this before I get up.
Luke Altmann i am gonna do that too lol thanks :)

The best motivational video on youtube!
I watched this before the beginning of every swim season throughout high school, it taught me how to break limits and show what I really am. Thanks, this was really needed.
Yes, just got my 3 mins of motivation high. Time to sleep.
one of the best motivational speech of all time.
Published in 2013 and it still speaks volumes. Grind, grind and when you find the zone fly.

OMG.... two swim gods. Such an underrated sport.
love how people say swimming isn't a sport not a swimmer myself but people that are spend thousands of hours swimming to get just a third of a second faster I appreciate all you swimmers your the real athletes
Who says swimming is not a sport?? Whats not a sport is nascar or table tennis or pool or anything that takes no athletic ability like chess
Never heard someone say its not a sport lol
I honestly would listen to this before I would race, before I'd hit early morning swim practice, and damn, it used to help alot.
This got me through my Engineering bachelors
I watch this before every swim practice.

Thanks for the motivational speech Optimus Prime 👍👌✌💪

6.00am is a sleep in
For those of you who say this video is lame because the person is getting up at 6am, and you get up earlier, you're missing the point. It's not about waking up early, it's about finding the strength to do something with your life. So if you're waking up early for work, good on you, keep being productive. And for all the others who think it's boring. you're probably also missing the point, which is sad. The message is simple, do something good with yourself.
It's also saying that the hard work you put in NOW, will payoff in the future...I am currently training for the Special Olympics summer qualifiers for swimming, I get up at 645 am every morning, 6 days a week and work on all my strokes for my races, I'm getting better, faster and stronger...I love this motivational video
PFFFFT 6AM?! I WAKE UP AT 4:30 😂 Ok but seriously, this video is really the truth, the horribly awesome truth.

To be honest, swimming is so so so hard to master. What a great sport that I will always love.
Rolands J every sport is so so hard to master
all swimmers need to see this video. as a swimmer we don't get to go back to sleep, we don't get to say its too cold. not if you want success. this video makes me want to do things that others thought was impossible, it makes me want to work for what i've got and what i will have. this video makes me want to embrace what it means to be a swimmer.
This is like the best motivational video I've ever seen. I've watched it about 100 times 😂 It really keeps me going and I'm so much closer to my goal. kudos!
Swimmers are the best! 😊
I used to listen to this back when i was running. A few years ago I got diagnosed with a life threatening brain condition, it's been a struggle since but I always remember 'path of least resistance, thing is, you're heading upstream'.
🤨Oh, I am very sorry to read about your situation. And I AM SURE: THIS IS EVEN MORE (!) your reason to RISE AND SHINE ... a be an image for others in such situation 😄😍

Put your mind to it and you can do anything
As someone who’s done competitive swimming for the last 10 years. It isn’t easy. It’s not for the faint of heart. It requires a strong mind. For hours each day you stare at a long black line below you. For miles and miles, but in the end. You end up with a strong body, but a even stronger mind. You feel like quitting just remember this line “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming.”
@@yephuh7908 swimming requires a lot of technique that is the problem it isn’t like running where you can run really slow and be able to breath
@@yephuh7908 well for someone thats been swimmnig for 14 years dont put his /her dreams down if she wants to become great at swimming you put in the time and work. I watch this before every meet and it's what gets me through my races.
6am is luxury ...we train at 5 be up at 4 ...
Skyer Walker same
For us 5 is luxury. We train at 4, wake up at 3 ...
When you wake up is irrelevant. If you wake up at 5 but only got 5 hours of sleep you're being counter-productive. So depends on when you go to sleep, the earlier the better.
And how hard you try the effort you put in that’s what matters it dosent matter how early you wake up you can train in the afternoon and still be great at swimming it just matters how hard you do it and your diet
I think it matters how early you get up, everyone can getup@8 and train hard but not everyone can resist the cozy bed and jump into cold water/run in the freezing air. It takes some real mental toughness...
6 A.M.??!! I have to wake up at 4.30 to go the swimming pool because of the 1 hour ride.

Missed the will to vibe to this, shit slaps hard
People say that swimming is fun but they don’t know how hard waking up early is and how cold the water is 😂
@Anzoxii agreed 10000%
Btw the water isn't as cold as you think basiclly anything that is under like 10 degrees of your body temtpure will fell cold since the water *isn't* your body tempeture or higher
I've endured this since like 4 years of age, girl you gotta admit other people have it ways worse
@Anzoxii dont see what age has to do with it. In the team I was in, everyone trained twice a day every week. From the 6 and 7 year olds to the 18+. Early mornings at the pool 4am swimming till 6am, get ready for school. Then go back, run miles and physical training and right back into the water.
Its bloody cold. I know it. But we take it...regardless what. Just for this single moment, when we have achieved it.
I'm a swimmer and this inspired me. thank you.
