This speech was the reason I dropped everything, moved out of Chicago, started college at 29 now, and now I am graduating double major!! Today I started my internship at one of the largest companies in the world… and and signed an offer that guarantees a high paying job that starts two weeks after I graduate…. In 2.5 years I fixed what I missed up for 29 years because of this speech!!

As a retired Army soldier after 26 years of military service, l salute this Navy Admiral with utmost respect. He clearly is not just a competent leader but a man who has morals and standards every one of us should strive for in life. I can't imagine what an honor it must've been to serve under his command. God bless you and your family for being such a positive representative of our military and our country. 🙏
I retired after 21 years in the Army, all as an infantryman. Numerous tours to the Middle East and Africa. Even after 14 years of leaving my beloved career, I seem to miss it every day. I have listened to this speech over 50 times. Especially on those dark days where I can't get my head quite right. And every time I listen to it, it helps me remember why I joined. What I joined for. And to be proud of the job that we had done. In today's society, where it is not fashionable to be proud of America and to be patriotic, I can hold my head up and stand on the principles that were instilled in me as a young man. All gung hoe and eager to get on every deployment or school possible. I look back and think to myself, is this the same America that my brothers died for? To all who have served and that are currently serving, I say thank you for your service. God bless every one of you and your families. It's a hell of a ride and it goes way too fast. Enjoy every minute and embrace the suck! RLTW
I think it's not the same America but people like yourself and others who served and someone like myself who never did but is a proud American are definitely still out here in large numbers. Speeches like the admirals are so powerfull and uplifting.
My God can you imagine having this man As our President of the United States 🇺🇸! This is the kind of Man and Leader and human we need steering our country !! I would bet that very few if any of those graduates will forget that man and his glorious words !!! 😎 Stay Safe n God Bless !!
I’d say everyone. It is very inspirational which we need it go viral, respect is slowly fading and we need to stop it. We need to restore respect in our daily lives. I’m transgender and I’m pushing on despite of hate I witnessed every day
@Greg Johnson why cuz he's gay and white? And tall... ur a cheeky fella ain't ya? Like them gay seals? Sharks eat seals my friend. Save me from ur fairy shark tales
“Judge someone by the size of their heart, not by the size of their flippers” was so deep. We are all the same. The military understands this. What truly sets man apart from one another is integrity, honesty, and heart.
Agreed it’s all about integrity, honesty & heart. But if the military truly understood that we are all the same they would be creating peace not fighting wars.
@@thejaguarpriestess Have some respect, this has nothing to do with politics yet you’ll make it so, ultimately destroying the message that was given in this speech. Let me ask you this since you like to cast stones, what makes you better? Coming to a video that motivates, only to leave your own negativity for others to see. Are the emotions/ideas you’re spreading any less detrimental? No. There’s a comment section out there for you, I’d recommend you find it.
These men and women are the reason you can sit online and give your opinion. Go play with your crystals or whatever it is you do. “ConsciousnessHealing”. You should spend time healing your ignorance.
Been years since I first saw this wonderful speech. I started making my bed and incorporating the rest of his advice little by little. I'm now sober, drug free, started my own business, and really starting to thrive in life. If I had to pin it all on one thing, it's Admiral McRaven's wise words. Thank you very much sir. I carry your words in my munchkin heart always and forever.
My mom quoted this at my high school graduation. We didn't think that the other graduates were listening too much... But I was later invited to a beach retreat with almost all 13 of them(we were homeschooled), and we all shared a beach house. I noticed that everyone, even the boys, made their beds. I had known all these kids all my life, and none of them ever made their beds. But now, just a week after we graduated, they all started to. My mom was smiling so brightly when I told her about it. Such simple actions can change the world, and such simple words can motivate some of the most subborn people I have ever known.
Looking at this next generation coming on the scene, mabey they should start listening too this in middle school. By the time they get ready too graduate high school, it may be too late.
I watched this over 4 years ago. I assure you I’m still making my bed every morning, waking up at 6am and completing many tasks throughout my day, this speech changed my life
I was fortunate to have served in the Navy under this incredible leader. He exemplifies the human spirit, the tenacity to overcome any obstacle life may throw at you, and to always pursue excellence...no matter what stands in the way. I will forever be honored to have served with such a man in such an extraordinary time.
woow so blesss* I lisen to this first time 2018/2019 and realy love it. I aslo admiar David G to. what a blessing to be whit one of them and dubbel whit both :) I hope you and him are all right now ..Sincerly from Scandinavian❤💛
In my forties I suffered from depression, ADHD and horrible, crippling procrastination. I'm going to be 60 next birthday and have never been happier. I found my faith in God, I make my bed, I work for myself and I exercise. The power of momentum is incredible. Just as one step propels you forward, each action builds on the next action to get you where you are. Birthdays used to depress me as I measured them by how much I had failed to achieve in my life. I give thanks to God and can't wait to celebrate the next one.
I’m going to screenshot this comment and save it. I might even post it on my IG if you don’t mind. I find this comment motivating. I’m glad your faith has strengthened. As have mine.
I respect this man so much, what he accomplished form his country is incredible. The man did not hesitate for a second to criticize Trump and to uphold his values, he faced his president because he doesn't back down from bullies.
"Sugar cookie" I am retired USAF myself, and I have always had the utmost respect for all of my brothers/sisters in arms (especially career wise)!!! You sir today, have spoken more truth than most people know the definition of. I sure needed it when I encountered your enchanting speech. Thank you so very much! -Ssgt Collins, USAF -retired. Living in my car because of a toxic relationship I am grateful to have heard this because of hope. Hope is my only and true salvation, I have a job and a car to sleep in. Thank you sir.
Hang in there!! I've been there!! Better times are ahead!! I hope you meet someone that will change your life for the better!! Never give up!! Drive on!!
Some of us have survived Hard Military Training in our times. But, not many of us are Seals. I salute you, Admiral McRaven, and all your brother Team Members.
Proud to say I'm 4th generation Navy. My Dad one of the first to go through newly formed Buds becoming a member of SEAL Team 1 in 1963. I could never do it but I'm glad that he and this gentleman could. Salute
"You must be your very best in the darkest moments". Man this hits hard. My grandpa was soldier and WW2 survivor. Remember when he was giving interview to local news. The women asked hiszp what was hardest? My grandpa said no hesitatio:" to stay human when the world around you in inhumane hell"
I first watched the original video back in 2016 when I was the gym. A small guy who didn’t know what he was doing back then found motivation from the original video. Now I’m going to my first competition for bodybuilding, this truly changed my way of think of life. Remember one thin NEVER EVER GIVE UP!
Being an American is not as much about where you live as it is how you live, my guess is that you are an American. I hope after 4 years you make your way back to read my sentence.
Many need to know this. A known podcast in the US taught me how the rich seek the ideas of FinanciaI ConsuItants to help earn success. That’s the secret the rich don’t teach you. I took this step and my finance breathes so good now 🤑
To achieve success, you need the help of a FinanciaI consuItant. I engage in a variety of lnvestments with the ideas of my consuItant and have acquired great returns so far. (the amount is confidential).
There’s no limit to what you can achieve in life (including success) if you put your mind to it. Opportunity is a scarce commodity. I will partake in this. Luckily I stumble into this.
A very important person in my life that I was fortunate enough to meet when he made it home from the MARINE'S told me to never let anything stand in your way don't ever be scared of anything or anyone and it doesn't matter how many of them that there is fear no one or anything. And whatever obstacles that are set before you, you either climb over it go under it or around it. If that doesn't work you have to go right through the middle of it whatever it takes to get to the the other side of it. I took those words with me and made it a point to make sure that I remembered them and used it as a tool to get through a lot rough things in life. So if you are reading this young man It was your father that instilled those words in my mind. You should be very proud.
My word. Probably one of the best motivational speeches I have heard thus far. Will certainly listen to this again. Mulligan Brothers, please post more like this. Three thumbs up!
I’m making a goal to watch and/or listen to this speech everyday I get up, I won’t stop until I’m happy in life and remember the exact meaningful words this man had said.
The best speech I ever heard. Absolutely outstanding. What a leader. What a polished professional. He is an example of the training he went through to refine him like a diamond. Incredible speech. The lessons he gave are profound. The epitome of being at the highest level and polished.
The best Navy Seal line I've heard is "We train under conditions that are harder than we'll ever meet in the real world, that way when we get out there, everything will be easy."
I’ve heard a lot of speeches in my life. This is by far the best I’ve ever heard. I watched this several times. Retired military myself, great respect!
Thankyou for this. I've been crying. Have separated from my wife feeling so lonely and aimless. But listening to this I feel that I need to dig deeper in myself. Life isn't isn't fair. But I must grow from this.
You’ll make it! I almost took my own life when separated from my husband. That was 50 years ago. I managed to get a full fellowship to FDU in NJ to get my MS in biology. I then got a great job which became a career in genetics at Quest Diagnostics. Life takes many twists & turns like when a Navy Seal navigates under water on their mission.
There are so many people who helped with the war on terror and are still continuing to serve. Marcus Luttrell is another amazing speaker he was a Navy SEAL who made a difference. Me a person who wants to serve in the U.S. Navy is very motovated after hearing this (Top Gun also helped and battleship) these people who served after 9/11/01 were amazing and will be remembered for centuries for their heroism. This is the speaker everybody wants. God Bless America 🇺🇸
Here I thought I was doing things wrong by standing up to the 'sharks' I would say I WILL NOT EVER GIVE UP!But why God am I in such a dark place? The analogy of swimming under the ship in the darkest of dark - alone or seemingly alone - I understand all too well. Beautiful man heart and soul. Thank you.
I have heard this man’s fantastic speech many times, and each time it overwhelms me. His message, his words, his cadence are certainly profound. I swear, if this man were my boss or had been my coach, I would run through a brick wall for him.
I’ve still got a long way to go, but since watching this video 2 weeks ago now, I have made my bed every single morning without fail. It takes time to make a real change in your life, but bit by bit we will make it. It’s amazing what a speech from someone you have no connection with can do. Thank you.
I like what you said about it takes time to make a real change in your life. I'm always rushing ahead wanting change to happen immediately. Thank you for reminding me to take it one step at a time and to persevere. I will get there eventually.
This man is a pillar of strenth and a role model to me..love from IRELAND.i teach my two dauhters on the importance of makeing their bed as my mum did before she died..its respect and responsibily to clean after your self on the battle field or at home is all the same .And to look out for one an other ..peace out.
Thank you for posting this. I am having a really tough time right now, I am a disabled person, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Autism. I am a part-time history professor, who does not have much money. But, I do have a woman, who I love dearly with all my heart. We are separated by a vast ocean, and she is rightly angry with me. I have fought and tried to get other jobs, but have been denied due to my disabilities. There have been days when I really want to die. But, I want to change the world. I want to change her world. She is my guide, and she is the greatest and bravest woman I have ever met. She is worth everything, AND I WILL NOT HESITATE TO SURVIVE THIS CIRCUS! I WILL GO IN HEAD FIRST, AND I WILL NEVER RING THAT BELL! Thank you, again, for squaring me up!
Can you imagine Big Donnie giving a speech as eloquently, as full of experience, passion and love for his fellow people, as this soldier. This is the America the world needs, this is the America America needs. The grit and determination to do what is right for everyone rather than what is comfortable for the individual, actually doing something about problems rather than just bitching about them. Great speech, regards from your family across the pond.
This is so true, my son became a Marine back in Dec of 2020, he told me he misses Basic Training I said why that was 13 weeks of Hell...he told me I was somebody to the corp, my instructors kept the faith in me and made me want to conquer everthing Basic had, well this past February he ranked up to PFC...while others didnt...I told my son before he left to be a team player and that's the only way your going to survive and to your DIs your going to stand out...I also told him he wasn't going to make alot of money which all military branches should make awhole lot more but back to my point I told him what I was taught, is to make friends and brothers over money every day...money comes and goes but true friends and your brothers in the Corp will always be their when you need them at your lowest point in your life or whatever the case maybe...well my son came home in March for leave and he was a totally new man....I made him a young man being that he was 18 but the corp had chipped away the ruff edges and made him a man while he turned 19 in Basic...Now he is a morterman and now has fallen into a different platoon that finally the corp is getting new guns, vehicles and are putting them into 7 man boat crews...he leaves for Fort Polk in a few months to learn how to drive a zodiac off a carrier and how to drive it in high seas....he is also the sniper in his boat crew....along with two brothers that carry lite MG and three that carry the M27 but with acog scopes...I talk to him every week unless hes out in the field setting up ambushes on a different company...he set for 6 hours just observing the company movements and writing down what he saw and how far they were and the wind and stuff like that....I think everyman should serve before they go out and exploit this country we live free in, just so they know what it takes to be free...It takes a strong will man to sign your name on that line that you will defend this country at all cost and even up to your life...Since we cant whoop our children and discipline them like my dad did me then they all should get that discipline from the corp or any other branch of the USA has...so yes the lessons he is given are so true cause I didnt haft to remind him to make his bed, i didn't haft to cook for him he cooked for me, he got up every morning to work out and run, I didnt haft to pick up behind him so yes this speech should be heard by any young teenager...it will build confidence in yourself but remember to stay humble dont let your pride get in your way...By the way this is my wife's account iam just using it till they send my phone back...Stay blessed and humbled and have a great day
"I think everyman should serve before they go out and exploit this country we live free in, just so they know what it takes to be free.." YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME!!!! Clearly you have NO regard for what your fellow American does. People like you will even think no one should be allowed to VOTE unless they served in a military!!!! THINK A LITTLE BEFORE YOU INSULT OTHER AMERICANS!!!
I've seen it a dozen times, and it never gets old. I pull it up sometimes, when things are rough. I recommend everyone who reads this, to try it. Hes truly an inspiration, and a hell of a guy.
Thank you admiral I am determined to enlist in the Us Navy on October , walking to the recruiters office was nerve-wrecking , even the thought of being part of a great military group I would think I was just over dreaming. I thought people around me would laugh at the thought. Yesterday I passed my Practice asvab and I'm finally going to head in to MEPS . Pls wish me luck guys.
Military was the best decision I've ever made. It'll test you and force you to be in situations that are uncomfortable. In that you will be above average if you learn to be comfortable becoming uncomfortable.
Great speech…I dropped out of high school in 11th grade working to support myself and help my mom and I just to eat a meal. A year and half later I took a test and earned my high school GED. I was lucky to get in the military the last month they took GED diplomas…afterwards High School degrees only. I feel lucky to have served a 20 year career in the military starting from E-1 to retire O4 USN active duty. I learned so much and was inspired by so many during my military career. I used my military skill sets to work another 16 years as a civilian following my military career. I’m now a fully retired multi-millionaire, a true rag to riches stories. Military service for the USA change my life drastically. Bravo Zulu to all those who serve.
I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but listening to this amazing man just in the first seven minutes from me to tears. Thank you to all our military. You put your life on the line for us and I am eternally grateful more than words can say.❤
Liked your talk...brings back memories of basic training and low crawling in the Louisiana sand at 110 degrees. By accident, I had the right attitude . (18 yrs old) Then 1 year in Officer/Aviator school. (Twice as long as Seal school?) For some reason, the outragous demands didn't bother me., but a very large percentage resigne . You described it well. Barracks surprisingly empty at the end of first phase. Made me appreciate the significance of "just keep paddling"! Phase 2 (shared with Marine students) ended a very challeging year with wings awarded and a pride of accomplishment for the remaing few. Changed my life. Thanks... Gary H, combat vet, 1Lt
I cry each time I listen to this speech, but best of all I practice some of the tips this great warrior gives, and I can tell you my life is so much richer for it. Thank you!
I made a change without any training or degrees that a lot of other people have that i don’t have and always said that I didn’t need because my ancestors blessed me of the ways of the old and old fashioned. I was happy and proud I learned from them. I learned what it means to have a heart and courage and bravery and leadership by listening to the stories that mattered the most to me and I can’t and won’t ever forget those stories

Like any stirn father, the majority would hate him. Until they are alone with only what he taught them. Sound familiar?
Vote Trump! He's that guy, that's why the demacrates hate him.

I’d say everyone. It is very inspirational which we need it go viral, respect is slowly fading and we need to stop it. We need to restore respect in our daily lives. I’m transgender and I’m pushing on despite of hate I witnessed every day
He just came to speak at my university last night. He is an AMAZING speaker, and went for over an hour.
I've listened to this speech at least 50 times, and it STILL makes me cry!
Every time man, every time.
I know that feel bro.
@Greg Johnson why cuz he's gay and white? And tall... ur a cheeky fella ain't ya? Like them gay seals? Sharks eat seals my friend. Save me from ur fairy shark tales
Me to why is that?? It makes you emotional. Am scottish. But a love this speech. What a man❤from🏴❤
And do u still make you're bed everyday?

The fact that he sounded like Johnny Bravo, made this even better.
There was something familiar about it but I couldn't put my finger on it...
thnx for ruining this for me hhaaa

My mom quoted this at my high school graduation. We didn't think that the other graduates were listening too much... But I was later invited to a beach retreat with almost all 13 of them(we were homeschooled), and we all shared a beach house. I noticed that everyone, even the boys, made their beds. I had known all these kids all my life, and none of them ever made their beds. But now, just a week after we graduated, they all started to. My mom was smiling so brightly when I told her about it. Such simple actions can change the world, and such simple words can motivate some of the most subborn people I have ever known.
Amen Brother!!
Great story
@@mr.morgan5643 that's a chic dude. Lol

Great woman your mom.
Every high school should play this for students graduating every year.
*Sadly they never played this video during my graduation ceremony just pointless personal speeches and a flashback montage*
yes we need to make sure they are all trigger finger happy and head str8 to steal more oil and kill more people. perfect way to start their lives
Looking at this next generation coming on the scene, mabey they should start listening too this in middle school. By the time they get ready too graduate high school, it may be too late.

Proud of you 🙏🏾

This is so true, my son became a Marine back in Dec of 2020, he told me he misses Basic Training I said why that was 13 weeks of Hell...he told me I was somebody to the corp, my instructors kept the faith in me and made me want to conquer everthing Basic had, well this past February he ranked up to PFC...while others didnt...I told my son before he left to be a team player and that's the only way your going to survive and to your DIs your going to stand out...I also told him he wasn't going to make alot of money which all military branches should make awhole lot more but back to my point I told him what I was taught, is to make friends and brothers over money every day...money comes and goes but true friends and your brothers in the Corp will always be their when you need them at your lowest point in your life or whatever the case maybe...well my son came home in March for leave and he was a totally new man....I made him a young man being that he was 18 but the corp had chipped away the ruff edges and made him a man while he turned 19 in Basic...Now he is a morterman and now has fallen into a different platoon that finally the corp is getting new guns, vehicles and are putting them into 7 man boat crews...he leaves for Fort Polk in a few months to learn how to drive a zodiac off a carrier and how to drive it in high seas....he is also the sniper in his boat crew....along with two brothers that carry lite MG and three that carry the M27 but with acog scopes...I talk to him every week unless hes out in the field setting up ambushes on a different company...he set for 6 hours just observing the company movements and writing down what he saw and how far they were and the wind and stuff like that....I think everyman should serve before they go out and exploit this country we live free in, just so they know what it takes to be free...It takes a strong will man to sign your name on that line that you will defend this country at all cost and even up to your life...Since we cant whoop our children and discipline them like my dad did me then they all should get that discipline from the corp or any other branch of the USA has...so yes the lessons he is given are so true cause I didnt haft to remind him to make his bed, i didn't haft to cook for him he cooked for me, he got up every morning to work out and run, I didnt haft to pick up behind him so yes this speech should be heard by any young teenager...it will build confidence in yourself but remember to stay humble dont let your pride get in your way...By the way this is my wife's account iam just using it till they send my phone back...Stay blessed and humbled and have a great day
Lol Nothing wrong with snoopy.. he also was a fighter with a platoon of one Woodstock 😁

Liked your talk...brings back memories of basic training and low crawling in the Louisiana sand at 110 degrees. By accident, I had the right attitude . You described it well.
