In the big picture, most guys my age have a waist line bigger than their shoulders (and consider golf as exercise). Well, hearing it from the fastest man in the world to 15 meters (and 50 yards) - every now and then, it’s ok to take a break.
Olympic swimming before Phelps was based on talent, technic and hard work. Phelps changed all that. Now, it’s all about being perfect and being a machine. What has this sport become.
I totally get the message, but the fact that you have to talk about it shows that there is still a problem. Similar like Dominique Wilkins said back in the day about his achielies injury. He felt that he fully healed only when he forgot on which leg the injury was.

What's wrong with swimmers that they need therapy? I think Michael Phelps started a trend. Strong in the water weak in the mind.
The pressure that is on them to succeed at world level stages. It takes years of preparation and discipline for 50 seconds of swimming.
