The part about setting boundaries with family being seen as rude!!!!!!! latino families think you're being rude AND stuck up for saying something as simple as "I would not like to discuss this topic right now" . Its like walking a tightrope because u have to choose do u let ur family chip away at your mental state passively or do I set a boundary which will cause definitely cause a fight, anger, and tension, thus regardlessly still chipping away at your own mental state

I honestly have so much anxiety dealing with my family during christmas holidays.I feel like they unravel all of the self growth i do throughout the year😞
omg this is definitely the video I needed!! Holidays are a very anxiety filled time of year for me (seeing family and relatives can be super hard) and I definitely have been working on coping mechanisms and things I can do to soothe myself so i'm less anxious

Thank you for making this video. I struggle so much around the holidays because of family. In general, it's often draining to give so much of my energy to people I feel like don't deserve it. totally agree that boundaries are difficult to set, especially in Asian households. when family friends ask "how much money do you make" or comment on your weight, it's difficult to navigate away from those conversations. this video definitely helped me realize there ARE ways to avoid those topics

That coat is sososo cute. The first tip is soso true. Once you start to become more aware and enlightened, you become more sensative and its a lot harder to carry a conversation when you dont feel comfortable encouraging it or brushing it off

Thank you so much for this video Amy! The holidays have been really difficult and sad for me ever since I lost my mom a few years ago. I felt pressured to spend time with other family, but they ended up not being the best support system for me personally. I recently made the decision to spend the holidays alone to focus on my own healing and at first the concept of being alone during the holidays made me feel so sad. Just the word “alone” has such a sadness in my opinion. But this video really opened up to me that I’m making the right decision! It’s not about being a loner, it’s about needing space to heal. This was a much needed video, thanks so much for talking about this! I'm also in the process of learning what my needs are, how to set boundaries with the people that I love, and a recovering people pleaser! It's especially difficult with Asian families because I feel that speaking up for what you need is seen as being disrespectful to your elders 😥

Hey Amy since your passion is self development I wanted to know if you're interested in topics related to sustainability or veganism? Cause when I started on my spiritual/self discovery journey I noticed how my compassion grew beyond myself and humanity and I started to care more about the clothes I wear, brands I give money and attention to and about all the horrible things that happen to animals every single day. This isn't meant to say you have to do all these things, I just noticed that on myself and was wondering if you are interested in those topics. 😊
This is such an informative and we'll thought out video!! I am also in the process of discussing these topics with my therapist, particularly setting boundaries with my family members. Asian culture is such a tricky situation to navigate. When you hold space for yourself, you give yourself room to have love and support for those around you. I especially love the idea of creating new experiences and traditions in adulthood. Christmas has always been a sad and lonely time of the year, so I resonate with this idea.
