Thanks! It was a fun project to work on. I deliberatley kept the writing fairly simple on this one; no great challenges in the parts (compared to my other arrangements, certainly!), but I think it holds up well all the same.
While The Hobbit movie trilogy might not have been as good as the original Lord of the Rings movies (the extended editions add a lot to it, and some of the Gimli scenes that got cut from the theatrical release are hilarious), I really liked the Misty Mountains song.
Looks really nice! I like the costume changes and fancy lighting. Also the last line of the song gave me chills. Great work! I will say though you are awfully tall and unbearded for a dwarf. I think next time you should grow a beard, if only because I think it would look funny. :)
I'm really happy with how this turned out. If I'd had a beard available in my costume supplies that I could have worn (I have no intention of growing an actual one; seems inconvenient), then yeah I totally would have worn in and squished down the videos to make myself shorter :D
Making these things is a three-part process: First I write out and edit the sheet music arrangements using Finale notation software. Then I record, edit and mix the audio tracks using PreSonus Studio One (some of the earlier ones I did in Audacity before I decided to upgrade to a more user-friendly interface). Lastly I record the video and edit in Wondershare Filmora. I record the audio and video elements separately to ensure the best possible sound quality.
My full time teaching gig doesn't leave me with enough practice time to get a perfect take from start to finish on the more technically challenging arrangements (i.e. Pipes and Ladders III - The Infernal Dance of King Bowser) and especially on trumpet parts which are not my main instrument, so I tend to record it in bits and then stitch it together. I've got another brass quintet arrangement in the works which I want to do this time with all of the correct instruments (including tuba and french horn), but it's taking some time.
Hi, Mr. Stanfield! Glad you enjoyed it! At the moment, my 5-part trombone arrangement of Misty Mountain exists only as sheet music on my computer at home. I had at one point experimented with publishing some of my earlier arrangements through Sheet Music Plus, but the experience overall was not a positive one for me. Those earlier arrangements (including my Star Trek: First Contact brass quintet and several japanese pop tunes for trombone octet) are still available, but I have decided at least for now not to publish any new sheet music there. Composing and arranging music for me is fun and I enjoy it - something of a hobby or side project when I can find the time to do it. It has never been my main job and I haven't particularly felt the need to monetize it.
Glad you enjoyed the arrangement, fellow trombonist, presumably :D I have not published the sheet music for my Misty Mountain arrangement - at the moment it exists only as a Finale save file on my computer - however you can find a few of my other arrangements available on Sheet Music Plus: www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/luke-miller-sheet-music/
Funny you should mention that because as it happens, I recently wrote a set of five variations on the Pokécenter theme which I am bringing in to my school's concert band for our end of year concert in May. I just handed out parts for it last week :D
What a great cover !

Mr Miller. I am part of a Trombone Choir in the US. Is "Misty Mountains Cold" available as sheet music anywhere?
