Performed and arranged by Scott Sutherland
Music by Howard Shore
Produced by Aly Sutherland and Scott Sutherland
This is my first video outdoors and the first music video I have made based on a fan recommendation. I have had a couple of requests for Misty Mountains Cold in the comments to past videos and from two of my private students, so when it came time to record a video of a lyrical melody that could feature the new 6/4 CC tuba from Eastman Winds, Misty Mountains was on the top of my list! If you have a great suggestion for a future video, I'm all ears! Please leave your request in the comments below and be on the lookout for my Patreon page in the near future, which will give patrons special access to request future videos!
Scott Sutherland is a proud Eastman artist and clinician. This video features the following instruments:
Eastman EEP 526S Euphonium
Eastman EBE 853 Eb Tuba (Prototype)
Eastman EBC 632S CC Tuba
Eastman EBC 836 CC Tuba (Prototype)
When I listen to this I feel like I'm actually in middle earth beautifully done
Thanks, Sean!
this is the only acceptable instrumentation for this song
❤️❤️❤️
String bass and cello is another great low version, and it’s very rich to listen to
Tuba and double bass❤️
Idk, i think the bottom register of an orchestral organ would do pretty good.
Try 2 bassoons and 2 contrabassoons. Works fine too.
Gotta say: comparing your sound in this on Tuba to your Oct. 2016 PotC cover. You're Tuba sound has improved a lot. Well done, sir.
Thanks!! Though, I think the improvement in sound is likely due more to my recording equipment upgrades and improved recording techniques. Glad you heard a difference!!!
I'm at our brass band nationals this week and just and this pop into my head as a brilliant idea for a bass and maybe eupho ensemble and I'm so glad it already exists. Amazing!
Thank you!! Good luck at nationals!!
THIS WAS TWO YEARS AGO????? Time flies when you listen to good tuba!
🤣 Lol, hard to believe?! Right?!?
@@ScottSutherlandMusic yeah... crazy!
That ending always gets me. One of, if not my favorite arrangements ever. So beautiful
Wow!! Thank you so much! ❤️
This gave me chills
❤️❤️❤️
This is divine, I think I've listened to this 20 times at least. I miss my tuba :(
Thanks, Zan! So glad you enjoyed it
The cannon at 1:54 gave me goosebumps, one of my favorite parts. Oh and the perfect 8th chords done with euph and tuba..so goood! I wish I had your lung capacity!
Great performance, love listening to you and hitting perfect harmonies and it just makes me want to keep playing my instrument
You should try making a ragtime arrangement of something for the euphonium and tuba
Cool! Not ragtime, but the cantina band theme from Star Wars has been on the list for awhile.
Best version i have ever listened for this song...
❤️❤️❤️
All I can say is.... WOW!~ Thanks for posting, Scott Great job!
Thank you so much Johnson!!! 😁
Me and my friend that plays French horn are going to do this as a high school ensemble and layer it SO DOPE
I want to hear it!!
@@ScottSutherlandMusic Might be a little while but an email might be coming your way!!
Wow the fills
Yes another great video I loved the power of those tubas and the Euphonium was so beautiful I almost cried!
Thank you David!! Happy to hear it moved you so much!
This was awesome! one of my favorites! Great Low brass Harmonies! Keep them coming!
Thanks Stephen!! Will do!
This is beautiful, and it's really brightening my day. Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!!
you are my favorite person right now
Me encanta!
You are extremely in tune, Mr. Sutherland!
I have to work on intonation everyday, glad it's paying off!!
Really moving and beautiful.
Thanks Wayne!!
Ahhh I played the Euphonium for y ears and mannn you did not see a lot of it anywhere 20 years ago - thanks for this ^_^
This is my favorite song from the Hobbit and YOU KILLED IT GREAT JOB!!!!!!
This is actually crazy, I'm watching the LoTR and The Hobbit movies right now! Beautiful as always. :)
Thanks and enjoy the films!!
Scott Sutherland Music Appreciate it :)
PERFEITO
Thank you!
Those pedal tones at the end :))
They were fun
Fantastic
As good as alwayys. awesome
Thank you!!
FANTÁSTICO
Thanks!!
Nice arrangement and well played.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Wish we lived near by. You have awesome musical skills - but you need help with Camera exposure; I recommend you set this to manual because the shine of the instrument is darkening your shot.
It is on manual. The low exposure is meant to convey a darker, colder tone to the video.
Muito bom! Good job!
Okay... I subscribed, excelent work 🎼
Thanks for the sub! Glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed the bass sound of your tuba :) Your music have very deep emotions trought your tone and you playing style ;)
The dwarves would definitely use Tubas for this.
😆 I’d like to think so!
@@ScottSutherlandMusic There is no problem that can't be solved by more tubas. The rest of the band or orchestra... is just accompaniment for us tuba players anyway.
This is deep
I’ll consider that a compliment. So...thanks!!
This would be the song they'd play at Gimli's funeral while Legolas preps for the famous Glittering Caves.
Such a haunting, beautiful piece, right?
@@ScottSutherlandMusic Too cool lol🤙
This video is so awesome. Ive listened to it daily for a week or so, and its a great way to start my mornings. Quick question, where or how might I find the cheapest but best quality euphonium? I've been looking and I'm out of luck currently.
Jake Bell it depends on your budget. I love my Eastman 526 euphonium, which can be around $4,000 new. You can find good used euphoniums at Dillon Music or Baltimore Brass Company.
Scott Sutherland Music thank you so much!
Another question I just thought of, where do you get your music scores from? I want to do a collab with a few of my band friends in school and I'd like to surprise them with something special.
I do my own arrangements, which are available to my patrons on Patreon: www.patreon.com/scottsutherlandmusic
Quick question (to anyone really). I played a Miraphone BBb all through high school, I loved the feel of that instrument. with a budget of 4,000 USD would it be better to get a used Miraphone or buy a newer, cheaper brand?
Scott: Your playing is truly inspiring and beautiful, thank you for motivating me to pick the Tuba back up!
Glad you’re inspired to pick up the instrument again!! Way to go!! The number of quality new instruments at that price point is very limited. A used horn is probably the way to go. Check out Dillon Music and Baltimore Brass Company for used tubas, they usually have a good selection and are great to work with. Best of luck!!
Thanks for the advice!
Blooregard
Let me know how it goes! I'm currently looking for a horn and Miraphone is what I've been referred to, but I played a Meinl Weston through high school. Decent horn, but I wouldn't necessarily want to own one, haha.
Love it! Where did you film? Love the location, adds much to an already awesome performance!
Thanks, Cameron!!! I filmed it at Lake Calavera in Carlsbad, a volcanic plug. Gorgeous, 7 min from my house and very convenient!
This is awesome. Please do more LoTR themes like the Isengard them.
Absolutely! Thanks for the suggestion!!
I play in a brass band I've played bflat eflat and euphonium if you have to pick one what would you play
In a brass band, the euphonium gets many of the most beautiful melodies, it would be tempting to go that route. I’m a bass man, though, and love providing the foundation to an ensemble
For the sheet music I have a few questions.
1. Is it only 25 measures or is it just not showing the rest of the music?
2. Is there a piano accompaniment for the tuba solo?
The sooner you get back to me the sooner I could start on my solo. I need a piano accompaniment, so If I have to buy the duet, then transpose it that would be fine, just take more of my time.
Hi Carter, there’s just a preview on the Musicnotes website. The “Solo” music is the melody throughout, so you could play along with the video, but there is no piano accompaniment.
@@ScottSutherlandMusic h
Thanks for the reply!
A b list sci fi theme request. Please do an all tenor/low brass cover of the Klendathu Dropship theme from the movie Starship Troopers. I think we'd all get a kick out of hearing it from you.
Cool, I’ll have to look that up!
Great music, do you play any other instruments besides tuba, euphonium, and cimbasso?
Thanks! I also play piano
@@ScottSutherlandMusic cool
Imponente
Thank you, MARIO!! 😁
Incredible. I wish I could play the tuba, but I don't have the lungs for it yet
Patience and the lungs will come!!
I’m 12 and I can play it
legend says he will reply to every comment..
Jokes aside great adaptation of the song
No worries, it’s just AI responding to everything. Oh and thanks!
2 things I have been waiting for you to play this song and you did an amazing job and second off do you have sheet music for this song I'd love to play the tuba line

Solo Tuba: mnot.es/2wHuc9l
I can't stop watching this it's my favorite in my opinion and random question but what is your range on the euphonium?
I recorded a high D in the treble clef staff for my Hyrule Castle video. That’s probably as high as I would want to go at this point. Always going for higher!
Scott Sutherland Music that is absolutely insane
Do you like the Eastman Eb? I'd been considering one because the ergonomics looks great, but I don't have a way to try one.
I love that horn. Great sound, in tune, comfortable. It can do anything.
one more question: what key is the tuba for the tuba solo ex:Bb, C etc.
The solo in the beginning is a CC tuba
So fantastic and incredibly performed! Is there a place or way I could purchase or copy of this arrangement? If so that would be fantastic!
I’ll be announcing a Patreon page soon, which will have the opportunity to receive copies of this and other scores.

How many tubas do you have? Also great vid
Three right now. A 4/4 CC, 6/4 CC and Eb. I have a cimbasso and am borrowing an F and sousaphone at this time.
Of the two CC tubas which one do you prefer if you were only able to have one of them?
The Eastman 632 4/4 CC is certainly the one I would choose. It is one of finest “all-around” tubas I have ever played and has gotten the job done well for me in everything from orchestras, large brass ensembles with organ, brass quintets, and solos. I love mine!
@@ScottSutherlandMusic It's the best horn I've ever played. #iplayeastman
It's very GREAT sound! may I ask You to get score? pleeese!

Minor or major?
Definitely a minor key. Starts off in Ab minor, modulates to Bb minor
What do u use to record Ur audio
I have a large diaphragm condenser microphone, a USB interface and Logic Pro on my laptop
Where is a good place to get a Euphonium on a budget?
I am a huge fan of my Eastman 526 compensating euphonium!
Had a suggestion for a piece you should do a Euphonium+Tuba cover of: Sovngarde, from Skyrim ruclips.net/video/YIT9OT0VZW0/видео.html. The male vocals, but instead of Tuba (+Euphonium for the top line) would be EPIC!
Excellent!!! I’d love to do that!!
Is there a score

Didn’t seem appropriate for this one. No worries, the cimbasso will return soon!
is there 2 tubas in this video
I actually used three different tubas to cover the four tuba parts.

Lol, congrats!! :)
if scott replies to this comment i’ll practice over sping break
Go practice now!!
Quem n curtiu deve tocar bem melhor só pode ou n deve curti a tuba
