This is an easy fix / diy repair.
How to change or replace an Apple iPhone 5S battery. Works for iPhone 5 also.
Showing the difficult parts and how to easily replace the iPhone battery yourself.
The old battery was dead and would not hold a charge anymore and was getting hot during charging.
Battery life was very short(1-2h max.).
This is an easy fix/ repair that you can do yourself.
It's the first time I do this, if I could do it, you can do it too!

Please NOTE:
When you start removing the battery DO NOT dig too deep at the beginning. Avoid touching the PCB above the battery and THERE IS A SMALL FLAT FLEX cable 5-10mm under the battery where I insert the tool. That's why you should not press down in that area.
An alternative way to remove the battery is to remove the sticky strips under it by pulling the plastic tabs located on the opposite side from where I pry the battery open. If you do that you will need to have replacement strips or double sided sticky tape.
Use plastic tools and DO NOT bend the battery too much.
Also, it's better to do this with a battery that is very low - discharged. The less energy stored in the old battery the better.

I don't get the need of the tape under the battery. Everything is so tigh in there, where the battery is going go?
Alex Benvenuto battery won’t go anywhere :) a reason I can think of is to avoid small movement that could put strain on the battery flat flex cable.
I was able to follow long and changed my battery. Highly recommend heating up the back of the phone prior to trying to removing the battery. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars.

That glue stuff on the back of the battery sucks!! It took me awhile to get the old battery out 😞 Had a hard time with the playing of the screen. For some reason it would not go down all the way. I was so worried about the screen my cat knocked my screw off in the floor and took me hours finding them all. Had a rough day today fixing my old phone until I can afford new one this Xmas, but I got to keep this one alive little while longer 🙂 Thanks to your video I was able to replace my battery without damaging the phone 😉

This video was so clear and had very good suggestions. I wonder if you see this if you have knowledge enough to know which part I have done wronge. The battery is in , the phone is back together nicely. The power comes on and the screen asks me to put in my password. As I try to do this , the sensor that takes my touch of the keys does not work. There is no lighting up of the circle with the number in it and no corresponding darkening of the top row of circles. Have I not connected something. Thank you . Linda
Take it to a repair shop. If you didn't damage the flat cables, it should be easy to get it working.
Fantastic directions, I am not very technical on iphones, but i was able to change my battery with absolutely no problems. It took me about 2 hours, I was careful and followed the step by step directions. nice work, Dragos. OPA!!!!!

Followed your directions. Now I have a anew battery in my old phone. Thanks. Power button on the top isn't working. Can only turn off phone by going into settings to "turn off", and plugging it in to start it. Was sure all 3 little cables inside were snapped into place.
Try to open it again and check next to the 3 litle cables there is one more cable that snaps. Maybe when opening you tried to open that too and it’s loose.
Remove the cable and connect it again.
When you removed the battery from the phone hopefully you didn’t damage the flat cable that is at the top edge of the battery.
For a first timer this is a very difficult job. Good lighting, going slow and patience are all important. I eventually had to relocate outside in the natural light as the internal artificial lighting wasn't good enough , plenty of sunshine where I live. If you are not a bit mechanically minded, I certainly wouldn't recommend doing this. To put those microscopic screws back in place, just put a dab of heavy grease like Vaseline on the driver tip which will help to stick the screw to the tip, yes I know most tips are magnetic. While you have the phone apart, I would suggest disassembling the push button from the screen and giving it a clean. My button was sticking and once I cleaned out the 'gunk’, it was fine. Getting the battery out was a big problem as most other battery installer people have also experienced and this is where any damage will be done - be careful. This is one of the better videos as the instructions, lighting and photography are all a very good standard.

Order doesnt really matter, I like to start from right to left - getting closer to a tight fit for the flat cables.
What is very important is to put each screw where it came from.
If for some reason you mix them up, it's better not to put the plate with screws back at all. Close the phone leaving the screws and plate out.
Some screws are longer and will damage the logic board if they go in the wrong place.

Good tutorial. I agree that removing the battery is very dicey. I punctured mine very slightly and although it didn't catch fire, it did glow and fizz which scared the s*it out of me!

Can install a se battery on 5s?
For the non-magnetized screw a little bit of oil on the tip of the screwdriver helps. Also the video would have been better if the cable covers were shown more clearly - perhaps a closeup - especially the home button cover. All in all though this was great. Thank you - I replaced my battery without a hitch. I had to reopen the phone because I made the mistake of not getting the top seated correctly. Also the little home button cable cover - was a pain - as you indicated.
I want to try to replace my battery. Idk if I should try to do it on my own.
If you did some precision work with small parts/screws, do it!
If not and especially if you don’t feel confortable ask someone else to do it or take it to a third party service shop.
If you do it, most critical parts are:
1. when opening the screen - don’t lift it too much.
2. Don’t pull the screen beyond a 90 degree angle when you remove the flex cable connectors.
3. The 4 screws should not be swapped. Each screw goes where it came from - they are not the same lenght.

he initial part is crucial when you lift thescreens, you should be very very carefull because the small cables are highly fragile and can be easilly damaged then you will need to change your screen....

It might work but only if you remove the glue strips.
Even like that it’s much likely to damage the flex cables by bending the screen back too much.
If you’re going to change the battery, remove the screen.

Lord Arif filmed 80% of my latest video with it 😁 it feels weaker than it was new. Or I use the phone more. Maybe its at 80% of what it used to be.

At this point I would try one more time if it's the same, take it to a repair center to try and fix the cables.

I changed my battery with this video but after opening, there is no sound from the phone. Did I miss a step?
Maybe you detached the speaker cable by mistake.
Try to look under the battery connector metal shield if the other connector is seated properly. Try to remove it and put it back again.
You’ll have to open the phone again for this.
Also before opening it, if you plug in headphones, do they work?
Hello i replaced my iphone 5s battery but when start my phone battery charge status 1% when i recharge battery its jump and stuck on 27% percent
After i shutdown my phone and on it Again battery comes on 1% again are there any solutions

If the home button doesn’t work check the first cable that is removed.
If the screen shows wierd lines images or touch screen does not work you should check that all 3 screen connectors are seated properly. Try to remove them and put them back again.
When opening it you should not pull the screen back more than 90 degrees angle so you don’t stress those screen cables.

It must be the original sensor that came with the logic board.
If it is, check the damage, maybe it can be repaired with really delicate soldering or replace the cable

+Pradeep Tayal only while charging? Screen cables are damaged if you pull the screen back too much after opening. Hopefully its just one connector not seated properly. Could try to remove the screen and reconnect the cables and see if that changes anything.
Edit: when you connect the screen cables make sure you feel a click when they lock in.
Do it carefully.

Pradeep Tayal are you sure you screwed the screws near the motherboard in the original place, because they are different lengths and can damage the motherboard if incorrect size.

That flat cable looks ok? Was it bent too much or damaged?
The battery had a fuel gauge that tells the phone how much power is left.
Did you damage any part of the circuit boards?
Try another battery if you can.
Sometime is not the battery,its the port charger.You might need to change the charging port.Its happend to me.
How can I find out original battery
Afaik only Apple has the original Apple batteries.
i change screen works fine.why not working finger print
check that the cable that I put back last is seated properly as shown in the video. Hopefully you didn't stress that cable when opening it. It can easily break.
If yes, the fingerprint sensor is paired in the factory with the logic board.
The digitizer and logic board go together.

I can't get the screen to fit on the left (battery) side in the last third of the screen. The right side snaps in fine. Any suggestions? Thanks.
+Tim Kosub I’d check the thickness of the new battery and make sure its not thicker than the original. Under the battery therr should be just a thin layer of sticky tape or glue strip, no glue balls.
Try to lift the screen completely and re-allign it at the top using both hands to center it.
When closing the screen do it on both sides at the same time or try to do the left side first just to see if something blocks it from underneath or its just an allignement problem.

Thankfully we didn’t need to change it.
It looks like it’s pretty easy to change. Its nice and modular. The first part with opening the phone is still valid. It might be worth it to also change the battery if the battery is weak. 😅

Closing is shown as good as I could. What is not shown well is the beginning where the digitizer flex is removed.
The key is to do it slowly.
If it not closing open again and realign.
You didnt show us how to remove the adhesive :( or sticky tape

Be careful digging the battery out from the rear. The volume/vibrate/on/off flex cable is right below the battery. Little black one. I gouged it now I have no vibrate. Keep the tool under the battery only. Oh yeah, I used a old school light bulb to warm the glue. PATIENTS!!!
Sometimes, DIY is not a good idea. This is one of those times. Give the Apple technician a few dollars and let HIM do it right while you have a drink at the bar nearby. Is there any "How to perform brain surgery" on RUclips?
Sometimes it’s better to take it to a service center.

It’s not easy and things can go wrong but it’s not as hard as some say.

Just a tip, pull out the adhesove via the tab instead of prying the battery out
My battery didn’t come with the replacement strips. It was the cheapest.
If you have replacement strips, removing the old ones is a very good idea.

The fingerprint sensor and the logic board are paired together during manufacturing.
Looked it up, it seems like you can remove the fingerprint sensor from the old screen and put it on the new one. Hope you kept the old screen 😅

You have to disconnect battery FIRST or you might permanently damage your Lcd screen. You are lucky that your screen is alive...

At the end of an iPhone battery are 2 little white tabs the ends of adhesive strips ! All u have to do is pull them out from under the battery and it's free without the risk of a lithium battery exploding in your face .
