I replaced the battery in an iPhone 5 yesterday for the first time using a $9 kit (battery + tools) from eBay. The only hard part is unsticking the battery - which is glued down quite firmly. I used an old hotel key card slid length-wise under the edge of the battery on the mother board side (the pull tab side). Came right up using that method when nothing else seemed to make it budge. I read that tip somewhere else and it worked great. I don't know why these kits don't include a plastic card for removal of the battery... so easy and safe compared to prying with a spudger (which broke on the first pry of the battery), or worse, a screw driver that risks puncturing the battery. Apple charge $100 to replace the battery... ridiculous.... Apple's parts cost on the battery they install is likely no more than a few dollars.
Thank you TechnologyMafia! I followed the step by step video and everything is working fine even though I struggle with tiny screws and other components. You've saved me a lot of money not having to have the battery replaced by a pro. I would highly recommend your video tutorials.
If you need to install another battery, try to heat the back of the phone up before trying to remove the battery as this will soften the glue and make it easier to remove. but don't exceed 60 degrees C as it may damage other items. obviously do this once the screen screws and battery has been disconnected. be sure to support the LCD once opened and also make sure you don't damage the charge port module when levering the screen up around the edge. the spudger should be used gently to run around the edge of the screen and not to pry open with the tip, I only ever put the corner tip of the spudger in the corner of the screen and then I just run the very end of the spudger all the way around the screen on either side and never along the top where the camera and connectors are.
+Neil Wardle ..Funny I was thinking the same thing. Maybe plug the phone into the charger to warm the battery up..then unplug the phone from the charger, turn off phone and start disassembly.
Nice video etc. But I have iphone 5s and when I open up the screen I need to be careful to not just open it up to 90 degrees because there is a small connector located under the home button with a wire attached. This little connector isn't in you video. Am I missing something? In another clip I saw on YT the connector I mention is there for sure. What am I missing?
Great instructions-I've replaced my battery successfully & I'm definitely no tech wiz. I did buy the correct small tools from an online seller-it's important to have these. Thanks tech mafia
I'm replacing my battery with the kit in the video and the third screw on the metal cover on top of the battery connector won't budge, I don't know what to do
Cool how long is a battery good for the original I meen. I have to charge it a lot but use it nonstop sometimes so am wondering when it is in need of a new battery
Problem. When I lifted the screen (as you are looking at the phone) on the bottom left of the battery there's a gap that I tried to lift the battery from. It began to spark and smoke and now the home button doesn't work. :(
I need some help who might come in handy to me? I have a 5S and from the last week the backfront of my phone heats a lot when i turn on mobile data and the batery starts draining fast and my question is ......... I have a Iphone SE and I wanna take from it the battery and the fingerprint sensor to replace them in my 5S because the SE its broken and blocked? Please help me if the battery and fingerprint sensor works on 5S?
DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE 5S! THERE IS A CONNECTING RIBBON FOR THE HOME BUTTON ON THE 5S. FOLLOWING THIS VIDEO CAUSED ME TO RUIN THE FINGERPRINT FUNCTIONALITY ON THE PHONE AND HAD TO PAY A CELL REPAIR SHOP TO GET THE HOME BUTTON WORKING AGAIN.
My iPhone 5s having battery problem. So is it possible to buy apple battery online knowing its original or not? Can we replace at home itself if we have kit ? How much mAh battery is iphone 5s have? Pls adivce.
ok guys I need help. I reaplced the battery and everything works perfectly fine except minijack input. It doesn't work when stick my headphones in. I don't know what happened. I'm sure that I put all screws in right order. What could it be? Do I have to replace whole module?
I just followed this tutorial and it was super helpful, but I still can't get my phone to turn on. Other suggestions? I was getting the red battery screen, and it would only turn on while plugged in for one day. Then it shut off and the most I can get is the white screen with the apple logo, but it only flashes and then shuts off. I also tried heating the battery with a hair dryer before replacing with a new one. Thank you!
The battery from iphone 5s and iphone 5 is different and the procedure to change it is different, there is a conectr right behind the home button and you have to be careful when fliping the screen.
Yes, you should lift the screen after using the suction bubble only a few centimeters because right behind the home button is a little flex, for that you should lift with a flat screwdriver the little metal pice that is at the top of the flex, then you lift with a plastic tool the flex and continue with the process, if you have any question ask me, and sorry about my english, I'm not so good at grammar.
I have problem with my Iphone where it shuts of at around 57% sometimes and battery heats up sometimes and such also It dies really fast compared to other iphone users that I know and by now I noticed that it is not an os problem and Its something up with my phone so do you think that if I replace my battery that my issue may be solved?
I have exact the same problem. When me and my cousin were playing real boxing i was using my iphone 5 and he was using iphone 5s and our phone were both fully charged. We unplugged it at the same time then after 50mins my iphone warned me my battery was 20% and my cousins iphone were like 73%. I have to charge my iphone 2x before my cousins iphone have 20% of battery -.-
Gurl same, when I plug the charger in mu batter percent is in 85-100% but when i un charged my phone literally 1minute or 2mns,my phone would die. Gladly I'm into androids now
I Think my screws are stripped i cant even unscrew them for my 5s it keeps rebooting and all the methods dont work besides the battery because im unable to try it
Video only for I phone 5, NOT 5S. Because of this video, my home button now needs to be replaced. I was mislead and broke the I-sensor Flex cable that controls the I-touch home button. I can replace the button, but the I-sensor will not work unless I take it to Apple and pay a fortune. Extremely Disappointed !!
please view other channels' tutorials on how to change batteries. there was way too many misinformation on the steps. doing it on a carpet? hello, static? iphone 5/5s has a touch id ribbon difference - thus, not the same way. don't simply handle the internals witb your hand. so much cringe.

I think there is a very important line under the home button which performs the finger print function. So this video might not suit for Iphone 5s.
I had same problem!
Where did u buy that? And if I buy a new battery, will I get the whole kit?
Great instructions-I've replaced my battery successfully & I'm definitely no tech wiz. I did buy the correct small tools from an online seller-it's important to have these. Thanks tech mafia
yes david! you do need to bring the money!
Any reviews of the battery from using it? Was it pretty much good as new?

I'm replacing my battery with the kit in the video and the third screw on the metal cover on top of the battery connector won't budge, I don't know what to do

Did you need to remove the screen protector first before replacing the battery?
+Eric Chen no, not necessarily. as long as you can pry it open the screen protector shouldnt hinder it.

29 bucks? I got my kit for less than 6 bucks, from an eBay seller!
+Gordon Burns Be careful with those sellers. All too often "new" iphone batteries are just used batteries with stickers on them.
*****
Thanks for your warning. The new eBay battery is just fine and holds a charge expected of a new iPhone battery.
+Gordon Burns Hey which seller did you get your iphone 5s battery from and is it still working?
HE;S RICH THAT'S WHY HE GETS TO TROW THE MONEY AWAY . 5 DOLLAR BATTERY FOR 30 DOLLARS DAAAAMN OR HE'S TOO DUMB LOL
you can try this one on amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSQFW2J
Dude I don't think you should have been doing this on a carpet, static potential and all ...
And also easier to lose screws
That’s what I was thinking.
I've done all that, but it won't charge, I even put my old battery back in and same thing wont charge, what can it be,
david chapman Check the charger port cable
