Woven Nest - Threat Theme (Rain World)

- Threat music for the Woven Nest - a dank, slimy maze of underground tunnels choked with webbing and spores. The nest is a subregion of the Far Shore, a region mod currently in development by Myrmice.
This was a fun one, lots of experimentation with synths to end up with the variety of unsettling scuttles and clicks in the instruments. Since the theme is for a subregion of Far Shore, the rest of the area has a different threat theme, composed by Aki - the two themes have some similarities, but are very different in tone, just like the areas themselves :)

Here I was, playing the farshore region knowing about the woven nest region and waiting for it to come out, walking into farshore without a care. And then I entered it and realized the woven nest was a part of farshore

The crackling sound in the beginning sent shivers up my spine, I could imagine a huge sense of dread if there was a pitch black room and i hear the full threat theme come online. Awesome threat theme that fulfils its purpose of causing discomfort.

I love how farshore devs managed to make such a terrifing threat theme. It's just so fitting for the zone, the clicking sounds resembling the sound spider legs make and the loud booming noises having a slight echo effect. I love how frenetic this is, everytime I go to woven nest and hear this adrenaline goes up as 12 different wolf spiders try to eat me at the same time, it's so cool

Alien, foreboding, and quite honestly terrifying.
This is such a different theme from Far Shore main's and RW's in general that it very well displays the reason the threat themes are named how they are. This just *sounds* like something unknown, unseen, chasing the player through a seemingly endless maze of dark, wet rooms.

I didn't even pick up on that until you pointed it out. It's so perfect that Snoodle alluded to my theme this way! And lets you know that there's more to Far Shore than first meets the eye. 👁
I can't get over the dread this creates by having a constant drone in the background, constantly descending lower and lower impossibly long. Very fitting for the terror of a giant spider nest.
Just hearing that go lower and lower, not stopping or resetting, surely there has to be a limit, right? And yet. It just. Keeps. Dropping.
Gotta love Shepherd Scales, perfect for this sorta stuff. Very well executed!

Every single one of your threat song is a banger. I love how the creepy skittering is a percussion in this.
I knew I could recognise Far Shore's melody in one of the layers! I don't know how much of Far Shore looks like, but I've assumed most of the region is bright and sunny, with happy little plants springing out of the soil. Imagine exploring the region and accidentally stumbling into Weaved Nest. The sudden change in the music would scare the crap out of me lmao

Yeah you're on the right track, Far Shore is a lot more... pleasant on the surface. Stumbling down into the caverns unaware should be quite the experience (:
Yup. Happened to me, I was trying out the new regions for the first time (completely blind). Was all peaceful until I noticed the strands of web hanging from the ceiling. Gave me a whole new type of dread.

Not your traditional threat theme, though it fits really well to be that way. The urgency I always feel being chased by wolf spiders will be cranked up to a hundred with this one! (It's also pretty odd that spore puffs are present in a region full of creatures that die from their smoke but I guess the world is being merciful this time around)
Creatures adapt to their environment and use their weakness as a weapon..
@@NeovenatorGuy Interesting... I'd think you're talking about the new spider at 0:49 ? But my speculative brain also thinks it's gonna give all spiders inside the region an immunity to the spore puffs, or even as you said, they'd use them as weapons which I hope would be true.
@@Albertablethey could have the bugs have resistance against spores and have the spores be poisonous to non-bug creatures like the Slugcat, the bugs can still get harmed by the spores, but not an instakill
@@Albertable I don't know much about "Pepper Spiders" as I like to call them (the spore puff spider), but I would presume they're immune to spore puffs by default to prevent them from killing themselves.

Never understood how creepy threat themes would fit as a threat theme. That's why Shaded Citadel, Subterranean (and more) don't have threat themes.
Besides that this is another song for my studying playlist.

With the way the dynamic music is set up the sirens perfectly follow the Common escalation of "Did that pixel just move?" to "Something Brushed Up Against My Leg!" when exploring.

It’s there, watching, following, unseen and hungry. Be careful, the ground is made of woven threads. Each step sending shockwaves alerting the many unseen horrors that lurk in the darkness.
i just stumbled into this from subterranean as spearmaster, i had to google the region cuz i genuenly had no idea what this is but i gotta tell you this theme is awesome, it sounds like youre in some sort of nightmare and are trying to get out

Literally scary! I can hear the skittering 👁👁. This is going to be a pleasure to explore indeed XD. But this is so banger!! Adoreee the instruments used and how they create such a mood!! Guessing the main enemies of the region will be spiders and when there’s one in a room with you and the threat picks ip, it almost sounds like it’s skittering legs…scary ;)❤💖! found this on spotify and came here because i had to tell you how cool and clever it is that (at least i think) you used samples of the rain deer sounds in this. it's so fitting and cool and i never would have thought to do that if i was doing something like this but i love it a lot
ok wait i was wrong it only sounds like the rain deer sounds but its still incredibly cool that callback to farm arrays and the spore puffs there
Just got into Rain World again and tried out the Far Shore mod but this OST took me by surprise. This is really well composed and has a lot of experimental elements that work really well together.

I remember being chased by GIANT spider centipede (or whatever those small black dudes called when they merge) in the Shaded citadel in a narrow, very dark corridor, and this one fits the situation perfectly. I wonder, is this subregion also filled with those spiders?
I honestly think this is some of your best work snoodle it captures the orginal feel of the game while also creating emotion, that being fear and almost crapping your pants kinda emotion. Jokes aside it really is some of your best work!

I love how this and Far Shore are similar yet contrast to each other. They both give off feelings of isolation, while Far Shore gives an almost calm feeling of isolation, this gives a feeling of isolation in the opposite way, being very tense.
I feel like this track gives the very opposite feeling of isolation, you feel like something is close, you just came see it.
Just got out of this little Subregion and MAN can I say that this threat theme completely captures the creepy eek! feeling Woven Nest gives you. Its akin to feeling something brush up against your leg while you're relaxing, or looking up to see a massive spider on the ceiling or wall

This is so spooky. I love it.
i'm still so impressed by this threat theme. i LOVE spiders, and i always found shaded citadel (which is the bane of some of my more arachnophobic friends' existences) to be a super chill and relaxing region to just take a stroll through. i would not have in a million years thought i'd be creeped out by a spider-based sub-area, but this theme really made me feel uneasy! after playing far shore for the first time i remarked that "woven nest made me understand what it felt like to be arachnophobic" which is in no small part due to this track. incredible work!!!
Thanks, and that's really interesting tbh! Woven Nest does have a distinctly different kind of spidery vibe I feel, a lot more 'infested' compared to shaded's less overgrown setting.. maybe it instills a different aspect of the spooks haha
going through woven nest might have been a horrifying experience but at least i got to listen to a banger while doing it

Nitpicking here, but shouldn't the subregion be called "Woven Nest" instead of "Weaved Nest"? Weaved means weaving like moving side to side, Woven means weaving like with cloth/webs. Also definitely rolls off the tongue better.

after making the mistake of entering far shore from subterranean i have to say that this threat theme fits a spider infested area SO MUCH
personally i think this would work better as a main theme rather than a threat theme, as i'm used to the slow build with main themes and the immediate jump in your face with the threat theme. other than that this is an amazing theme
