Fog Gulch - Threat Theme (Rain World)

- Threat theme for Fog Gulch, a mysterious region shrouded in a thick fog, which is currently being developed by Klumquart. Went for a mysterious, heavy atmosphere reminiscent of the deep sea, with a hint of metallic percussion that ties the pumps and shafts littered throughout the region into the music. This song probably has the most direct audio recording samples out of anything I've made, which I'm quite happy with the result of!
Fun fact: The loud bassy instrument is directly sampled from a recording of a real foghorn. Rather fitting, I'd say (:

Ominous as all heck. It certainly conveys that feeling of the pressure of the deep sea, which is what the region is reminiscent of. Fog Gulch certainly looks interesting and this track is sure to make it unique.
In order to cross fog gulch the slugcat must walk the pilgrimage of eight feathers and three blue suns. The first part of the journey is the great descent, down into the chasm one must go but be careful, one misstep can lead to a fall with no recover. Upon a successful descent , the second part of the pilgrimage begins, crossing the floor of the gulch is no less perilous than the descent, otherworldly predators resembling that of carvings and drawings littered about religious areas, in order to survive one must find airlocks as the fog down here is thick enough to drown any creature who lingers about too long. Down here instead of rain the fog cools and condenses into a solid ocean, the only thing keeping the ocean in a fog like state is the heavy industrial heaters at the floor which fail regularly at the end of the cycle. Even after the dangerous journey across the gulch floor there lays yet one final challenge, the most difficult stretch. THE CLIMB, the base of the wall is a mountain of corpses, large robotic snakes sift through the bodies searching for signs of life, many of these organisms fell off the wall in vain attempt to climb the last part of the pilgrimage. Surely whatever is calling you to the top of the wall is worth the cost… surely
I need to see a campaign with all these cool regions in it. Every new threat song I listen to makes me want it more.

Really like how it's foreboding while still being subtle.
This music is good and scary af, its one of my favorites now! the most memorable moment i had with this music was when i was fighting two vulture things in the dense fog, after the cycle was done...
Guess wandering in the fog wasnt a good idea afterall, but i somehow managed to survive even tho i couldn't see anything lmao

and hmm, I’d say my favourite is still Hanging Gardens, though I’m very happy with all my recent ones tbh - around HG is when i started getting more comfortable with the threat theme creation process, which meant i could put them together more intentionally rather than just through semi-trial-and-error (not to say i dont do that still lol, its pretty fun). So everything after that point i think has been a bit more.. sophisticated i guess? Polished? Something like that :)

This has gotta be one of my favorite threat themes. It’s up there with Stormy Coast. Fog and fog related stuff has always been a favorite kind of imagery, and now there’s a really cool piece of music that’s related to it.

Loving that ominous, looming horn, all that little rhythmic ticking and the beeping...Gives me that feeling that there's something out there, in that fog, just beyond sight. It sees. It knows.
