@_Cath_ l am not entirely sure about the brand . It is prescribed by a doctor so l think it depends on what country you live in. It's made by some huge pharmaceutical company or they usually have a generic. It is not the same as retinol. There are many different cosmetic companies that make retinol and you don't need a prescription. I use the 0,5 because it's tge only percentage available in my country. I grew up on a farm, many years ago- sunscreen was not a thing. Result rosacea, broken capillaries and so on. Getting IPL was a game changer. I had the most sensitive skin, constant battles with eczema, and the IPL really reduced the sensitivity. But, going no contact with family also helped! I no longer flush excessively as I have started to gain self esteem. It's a whole lifestyle thing, but I'd hugely recommend IPL for anyone suffering from this.

Ok. Just a note. I had “torrid cushings” For ten years. I went through hell and a lot of “You’re fine” before I eventually had a nice bit of heart failure when I finally had enough and referred myself to an expert. ( I looked up drs in my “sort of”area and basically found the best. I ended up paying a lot to begin with, but was worth it because I finally got the tumour removed in November last year). I had extreme levels of cortisol BUT it was very well hidden. My ACTH levels were non existent and my adrenal glands had effectively shut down. The only way they could truly see the levels of cortisol (1000 nano moles per litre) was to do a dexamethasone suppression test. Simply testing my cortisol showed nothing exciting. Of course I had scans to find the tumour but there was much argument over it was a. Functioning or b. A pheochromocytoma.
As I mentioned, I basically had to work it out myself. It’s rare, so drs are very disbelieving. I suffered for so long. My goal this time last year was to get my diastolic BP to UNDER 100 (with three different medications at max dosage) and to slow my heart down (150bpm resting) with max dosage beta blockers and bed rest. I’ve been through it! If anyone sees this, who feels like they might be going through the same, or just wants a bit of advice/discussion (I’ve basically educated myself more than most drs- first time I met my endocrinologist hee asked if I was a Dr, second time he asked if I was a scientist- no, I just wanted to be better) my Twitter handle is @HannaWoeking and I will always respond.
There’s so little support available, ironically it’s diagnosed more in dogs! I wish I’d had someone to talk to.

They have become more abundant over the years and have covered my face, neck, chest and upper arms. I even have some on the back of my neck and behind my ears. It frustrates me that treatments are not covered by insurance because they are considered cosmetic. My whole appearance has changed and maybe it is cosmetic, but it is a blow to my self-esteem when going out in public. I never used to wear make up and now I find myself slathering on as much full coverage as I can. I just had a consultation with a dermatologist about removing broken blood vessels around the nose, which were caused by using St. Ives facial scrub. They recommended at least 5 treatments a month apart by a vascular laser, $350 a treatment.
The problem is they said that it's pretty much guaranteed that the condition will come back. Some lucky people can go a few years before they need treatments again but others will only have a few months.
What's the point then? You'll have to heal after each treatment (they can bruise), then do it again next month, then heal, then do it again... And it will only last a short while, from a few months to maybe a couple of years, then do it all over again. Basically, living your life with a constantly reinjured and rehealing area in the middle of your face.
The dermatologist said that there is no permanent solution.

Since adolescence, I have been conscious of taking care of my skin, but I clearly wasn't educated. My childhood summers were spent out in the sun. Sunscreen was generally something that I used after I got burnt, so that it would not get worse. Throughout my 20s and 30s Saint Ives walnut scrub was never not in my shower. I used it daily. Like so many, I wish I had known this information in my 20s. Today my skin care is simple, and expensive yet surprisingly effective. I wash my face with CeraVe hydrating cleanser. At night I use Olay retinol 24 advanced along with Laroche-Posay Lipikar body cream. In the morning I use SUNSCREEN along with CeraVe moisturizing cream. The treatment made my otherwise dry skin break out like crazy, we're talking pimple on pimple on pimple, and unfortunately I was left with permanent pitted scars... He said it was my fault for not telling him it hurt when he was blasting me, when at the time he said it would hurt so I said nothing. Luckily they're tucked in in the folds of my nose so no big harm done, but I'm not getting the rest of my face done, ever.

They say you have to do several but it takes a week to recover and most of us can’t take off work that long because you can’t be in the sun and your face peels. Ugh. I wear SPF 40-50 everyday. I wear a facial SPF cover when I drive. My nose skin is so thin from it burning and peeling so much as a kid 😢 I feel hopeless. My skin redness and these blood vessels will never go away. I’m so sensitive to everything so I just look terrible all the time. Make up makes it worse I’ve tried so many different gels creams etc.
