The water tower with actual water that changes is absolutely ingenious!! I love it but can understand the problems with longevity given the components of the time period. Would love to see a modern version that still retains the look and operation of the original. As a steam guy I have to think this is one of the greatest accessories ever.
About 30 years ago I was talking to a large hardware store that was an authorized American Flyer vendor. He repaired an American Flyer maybe 2 to 3' long operating think he said draw bridge. Told me he thought AF only made around a hundred of them. He offered the customer a lot of money to take it off his hands but guy would never sell it.

You NEVER see water emptying from a tank into a loco in real life...its JUST odd...and tbe effort should have gone INTO a method to MAKE it LOOK LIKE water was being pumped form the spout where you might see it ...MAYBE use that oil illusion for water at the spout
Lionel like many other manufacturers used up what supplies they had on hand once the war started. It didn’t last all that long until they were depleted.

I have 2 394 rotating beacons. They both work. I modified the lens assembly by replacing the pivot with a pin that allows the lens to rotate easily.
That's awesome
Ingenious

That's why I put a disclaimer in the video description
Lionel was still manufacturing toys during the war? With a shortage of materials?
