No matter how many times I see the old footage of the 1949 showroom layout it always makes me smile. I am the caretaker for the replica 1949 showroom layout at the Wisconsin Auto Museum, and every time I see the accessories working in the old footage, it reminds me of just how impressive the original was, and how, with the replica I work on being the only one left open to the public (There are at least two others that I know of, but they are in private residences), the magic that has to be recreated.
Growing Up in America with Lionel Trains. We baby boomers had the fantastic opportunity to play with model trains. Loved that era so so much because we created the scenes the layout. The accomplishments we gained from being our own boss. We made the hobby work the way WE wanted it. Now today unfortunately the Computers and Electric Games dictate what they want us to do.
I like the inclusion of the Today Show segment with Dave Garroway. Seeing people play with the Lionel trains, operating cars, and accessories in real-time
