This was my introduction to the magnificent Spirit of Roanoke herself! I’ve since fallen in love with this beautiful J Class Northern. I have yet to see her in person, but I will always cherish the memories that this DVD holds.
I recently managed to see 611 in person this past weekend at Strasburg. This and I Love Toy Trains 2 introduced me to this beautiful locomotive as a kid. Looking back on this now makes it feel I've come full circle.
Fun Fact: The footage of 611 and 4449 shown here are from rare Berkshire Productions videos, including: “The Mighty J Part 2” - 1990 (611) “Sacramento Steam Showcase” - 1991 (4449)
1:09-1:31 one of the most spectacular footage of Norfolk and Western 611 as she pounds up the grade past Fremont Ohio she was a spectacular sight as a powerful jet of smoke blasted from her stack
The Norfolk & Western #611 is my favorite steam locomotive. To see it restored and back in operation again is a dream come true. Thank you for posting this.
Oh I know this is from the 1990s. I assume around 1992 or 1994. I hope they bring the old whistle back in the near future cause the new one is dull and not pure 611.
the 611 has become my absolute favorite steam locomotive of all time (I always remember seeing it in the I love toy trains series and various other videos I've always wanted to see it in real life) and since she's returned to steam I did see it in person for the first time on the April 10th excursion of 2016 (it was also my first time seeing one of ns's heritage units southern 8099 I didn't mean to mention diesel's it was two things on that train I saw and an edition with southern 6133 from the nc transportation museum which I've never heard of until I found out that's were the 611 was being restored which I would like to make a visit) and the current whistle she has now is from sister n&w j engine 610 (the original whistle of 611 is owned by the claytor family)
Noah Carney 2016, Ever since I was a little kid. I really loved how it was streamlined and had that very deep whistle. When I found out years later it was retired, I was very sad. I always wanted it to run again and I got my wish. However due to Amtrak's greedy new policy, the chances of me seeing it run in person are much lower now. Hopefully that will change within a year. I think it would be cool to see the 611 do a double header with the SP 4449. Like in St. Louis if the NRHS does a convention there again.
Why are we all talking about 611 when 4449 is also there! Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE 611... But I think 4449 is better. But please don't blast me...😕
I agree with you about 4449. Since you believe it's the coolest locomotive ever, how about a slip stream powered Daylight? A Daylight slip stream locomotive and new Daylight streamliner.
That whistle on 611 is a beautiful sound.
Twenty plus years later, the 611 is back in action

That chorus of Smooth Operator that James Coffey provided when he sang “Smoooooooooth”. It’s beautiful

The Norfolk And Western #611 is my favorite steam locomotive too. When did you start liking the steam locomotive ?
Me too. It would be cool to see it with the NC&STL #576 in Nashville running excursion's in Tennessee. Don't You Think ?

N&W sure has the spirit to restore one of the greatest western queens
All the shots of N&W 611 are from The Mighty J part 2 vhs by Berkshire Productions.
And where can you find that?
I'm not sure.
Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 Locomotive 611
0:27 [train whistle] 0:43 [train chugging]
The song doesn’t start until 4449 first appears onscreen, just about over a minute and a half into this video.
611 is the king of the N&W!
4449 is the queen of the Southern Pacific!
You have it all wrong, 611 is the queen of steam, and 4449 is the God of steam
Some if my Family lives in Fremont, OH and they remembered when 611 came through town. Thanks for the meomories.
What year was that Jason?

@@mattglumactheautisticgolfe1608 I don't remember.
Footage From The Mighty J by Berkshire Productions (611).
611 is my streamlined baby as I call it
0:13 Kayla Gaye (The Polar Express) [Kayla Ladd, voice/Carrie Underwood, vocal]
[wore salmon shirt, brown belt, light sky blue shorts and salmon shoes]
The Norfolk and Western j-class number 611 is the king of steam as Elvis Presley is the king of rock and roll and that's a fact!
This is how I was introduced to both 611 and 4449. One of my dreams is to see these two meet one day.
Me too
Me here, as well
Blue Smoke Productions same here both are respectable streamlined steam locomotives for their respective Railroads
I would love to see 844 4449 and 611 all together one day
I know 844(4) and 4449 were racing and doubleheader a train once
At 0:39 when the narrator said it was great fun and then they show her, she doesn’t look like she is having fun
That's because she was flabbergasted by the great view passing by
I've seen 611 2 times! Good times!

Dude, it's not my fault, they can't consist, 4449 is all the way In Oregon and 611 is in west Virginia
N&W 611 after the restored in 2015 now it's running again.
The nostalgia omg the nostalgia........
Southern pacific #4449 daylight is the coolest steam engine ever. Now retired his steam days are behind the memories
Nope, The Norfolk And Western #611 is the best steam engine not the Southern Pacific #4449
I agree with you about 4449. Since you believe it's the coolest locomotive ever, how about a slip stream powered Daylight? A Daylight slip stream locomotive and new Daylight streamliner.
There we go, this guy knows 4449's gender
2:32 this makes feel I want to live there and be born in the 80s or 90s
Be born in the mid 1980s
I saw 611 3 times
my old friend 611
Who’s listening to this in 2023?
Dat face on 611 do.
He be like =_=
That's because the Norfolk and Western j-class number 611 is streamlined at like the Southern Pacific Daylight number 4449
Bro, this is worse than calling 4449 a girl, but mistaking 611 for a boy is much more worse
Can’t find part 1
GamerKid32 RUclips took it down.
