The original owner of the trains was very upset when the trains were crashed and blown up. He did as anyone would expect. He got upset. The trains were still used. The trains were not badly burned or wrecked, but the owner did not want them to be blown up again. That is why the same wreck scene is used over and over. As a model railroader. I built the "new" version of this silliness for The New Addams Family. We didn't have as much room, so it was merely a bent loop, some scenery, and a collapsible bridge for the crash scenes. The first time, it was a bit of a fiasco, and everyone (including the director) just looked at me - I'm in props, not directing! The pyro guys had a steel dish something that exploded with a battery charge under the bridge, and Gomez had a dummy detonator in his hand. "Okay," I finally said. "Gomez, when you see the pilot of the locomotive reach the bridge, give us a nice big twist on the detonator. Pyro, that's your cue." So that's how we reenacted the original scene with the man from school!

@@GfwTrains Just started to "recollect" all the HO trains I had as a kid...No layout yet, but still love to just look at them displayed on the shelves in their boxes
Hopefully, you’re not destroying your trains like Gomez Addams here. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Gomez and Pugsley re-enacted all the crashes from Unstoppable with HO Scale trains in the modern day? They’d probably take it a step further and see to it that their 777 ACTUALLY DOES derail in Stanton on their layout. To ensure maximum destruction, Gomez and Pugsley would probably add tiny amounts of Tannerite explosive and super tiny signal transmitters inside the shells of the tanker cars; the fuel tanks on the diesels; and inside the fuel storage tanks in Stanton. All they’d need is a few properly labeled detonators to ensure that they don’t set off the wrong explosives either too early or too late and an audience on hand to witness the HO Scale carnage. I could also see them possibly re-enacting the head-on collision from Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and all the mishaps from Runaway Train (1985) and Atomic Train (1999). For the nuclear explosion in the latter film, they’d probably have to rely on at least two pounds of Tannerite to get the desired effect without leveling the train room (or the Addams Family mansion, for that matter).
If this show had been made a decade earlier, Lionel would probably have built the layout and donated the trains for the show. But by this time, the company was struggling and it would have been out of the question.
Nice video. I always loved the trains on the show. Were the Addams and Twilight show layouts the same? I believe they maybe. With the Twilight zone layout being the original or should I say it was one of the layouts in the original Addams family. It looks as if their were a couple of them. One using Super O track was used in both shows while the Addams family, also, had a layout (same track plan) with tubular O-31 track and a different truss bridge. The new movie The Addams layout is completely new O scale layout for the movie. I love them all.
Thanks for watching and the kind words. I have always wondered about those two layouts. The Twilight Zone one and the Addams family one look similar, but there are some subtle differences like you point out. I have wondered if the layout was a Lionel factory display layout. I think that might be my best guess. I am not sure how close in time the two shows were made. Gomez Addam's zest for life and trains always makes me laugh. What a great show. Again,, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment.
@@GfwTrains Good question. The Twilight zone/Adams family layout may have been. Lionel Diorama studio was still around. The later Addams family layout was not. There was an article in one of the toy train magazines about the layout (Classic Toy Trains) at the time the movie came out in the 1990's. They may be able to find a copy for you. Here is some more info i found www.ebay.com/itm/WOW-Addams-Family-Showroom-Display-Layout-Lionel-Super-O-Original-Plans-/233349860771 cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/p/48942/621054.aspx?page=1 ruclips.net/video/FPHEnHn23Is/видео.html
From what I've been able to research, the local Lionel team made the layout for the Twilight Zone. After it was used, they put it in storage. When the Addams Family needed a layout, the brought it out of storage, so yes, it is the same layout. The layout wasn't taken care of between the first and second season of Addams Family, so they had to create another layout for that season.
Funny watching them back-to-back. I always assumed they were different train sets being destroyed, but obviously not. Looks like the used one real model build, added a fake prop "exploding bridge" that was used just once for getting the camera shots, then reused that same stock footage in different episodes. lol...
Never realized they kept using the same explosion over and over again in each episode. And the aluminum passenger cars aren't LIonel, they're American Model Trains streamliners from the late 1940s/early 1950s, actually pretty darned scarce and valuable today.
You are correct. One post suggested Marx cars, but that is not correct. It appears to be a mix of Lionel 2400 series passenger cars and American Model cars. You can tell by the number of fasteners holding the roofs on. I have also been told they went through a bunch of Lionel models to get the scene.
I could never attempt to blow up or wreck my trains like Gomez. 😂 They're too valuable and too expensive! Not to mention a large fraction of my fleet is irreplaceable.
How as a model railroader myself you would think I would love all the train related scenes in the show. The only problem is now is that I've been asked so many times by people have we ever Gomzed our trains before and of course given the expensive nature of the trains the newer is NO. People don't truly understand how expensive this stuff is until they either look or get into the hobby so for me these scenes give a false impression on what model railroaders do. On a side note I never realized the one GP9 diesel is an M&St.L red with white stripe paint scheme. Pretty cool I think they had it in there.
Gomez sure had a lot of fun with his trains though. While destructive, I like that. The postwar Lionel is fun to see in the old clips too. Thanks for watching.

great editing, great to see all the uncut train bits!. of note i don't think the twillight zone set is the same one there looks more to it . also some of the trains on the addams family are marx not lionel. as for the train wrecks it looks like the same explosion was used for each show. it was only done once/ great show!
I love the Addams family and I love that they used trains as a prop on the show. You are right, they are probably different layouts. After doing some more research, I think the layout design was a stock Lionel factory display layout. Thanks for watching.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching Gomez blow up his trains. The final clip of Twilight Zone was "Night of the Meek" starring Art Carney as a drunken department store Santa. It was not filmed, it was an early, experimental attempt to record programs on videotape to cut costs.
Thanks! I was told by someone that the various train wrecks were all the same scene redone. I loved the Addams Family TV show but hated the part about Gomez always wrecking the trains. Now I know he only did it once ☺
Used to be one my fave parts of the original series , Guy with his train set that takes great delight at them crashing but is that not what most boys do with their toys 🙂
It's not the same layout, it was a factory demo layout with Super O track, Gomez's layout was 027 track. Best way for Lionel to sell more product, but dad sure got made when WE crashed our trains.
Helen Evans good eyes on the layout. I found that out too after some research. Yeah, parents tend to get mad after train crashes. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Lionels we’re tough. I ran my 2018 set off the dining room table loads of times and it survived with a broken cow catcher. Still runs and part replaced. How many toys if that era could take that treatment and still work?
Lol they are the same in both shows. This must have been common as I've noticed in the old western TV shows they used the building from Doc's office in Gunsmoke disguised in other shows as a different place. Even on Gunsmoke they would try to disguise Doc's office to use in other scenes.
Lots of old "TV magic" going on there. You got to do what you got to do when you are on a budget. Those old shows are the best though. Thanks for watching.
Too funny! I al a ya cringe seeing those classics crash and go up in flames. It sure does make a train lover cringe. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I always enjoyed the Addams family tv show and liked when he ran and wrecked them by blowing the bridge. One year we had a New Year’s Eve party and after a few drinks someone said John you have a large Lionel train layout. What do you say we play Addams family train time. Well I could not set up a bridge crash but I said it would be ok to blow up one of my older gondola cars. I had some small firecrackers so I put one in the gondola and lit the fuse. The train made it around the layout once then bang. The explosion blew a hole in the side of the car and derailed the train. I only did it once since I did not want to destroy more of my trains. By the way I used the open gondola because if it was in an enclosed car there may have been more plastic blown out and maybe hit someone. However I do not recommend this due to the safety issues of the exploding car. Lionel did manufacture a missal car that launched a rocket that you could hit a target that would fall apart if you hit it. This would be the safer alternative to play Addams Family trains.

"Why else would a grown man play with trains?" Love that line.
Yes, that sure is the best line. Thanks for watching.
Isn't that the same as a grown woman playing with dolls. Oh, maybe collecting them.
Oh my what a fun and sad end to great examples of Lionel
I know, the crashes on the layout always make me cringe. That said, the love of trains that the family has always makes me smile. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Love this post! I watched all these when I was a kid..I'm still playing trains!
I love Gomez Adams and his trains too. Such fun. Thanks for watching.
Max Medaglia Max: WAY to complicated!
If this show had been made a decade earlier, Lionel would probably have built the layout and donated the trains for the show. But by this time, the company was struggling and it would have been out of the question.
I agree. That said, it is my understanding that the layout in the show and the Twilight Zone are Lionel built display layouts.
I saw this first run back in the day. It’s still cool !
The Addams family is the best aren't they? Thank you so much for watching.
I like how you always heard the whistle just before the crash!!! 🤠👍
The Addams family is the best aren't they? Thank you so much for watching.
OMG!!!!! Now it all makes sense! Gomez IS controlling Amtrak! Aaaaaaah!!!!!!!
You are too funny. Thanks for watching.
@@dathpo WOW! Thanks for the info.
Looks like the used one real model build, added a fake prop "exploding bridge" that was used just once for getting the camera shots, then reused that same stock footage in different episodes. lol...
Very cool and well done. John Aston was perfect for the Gomez character.
I have also been told they went through a bunch of Lionel models to get the scene.
very cool video, thank-you for posting it
The Addams family is the best aren't they? Thank you so much for watching.
I could never attempt to blow up or wreck my trains like Gomez. 😂 They're too valuable and too expensive! Not to mention a large fraction of my fleet is irreplaceable.
I know :-). Those trains are valuable. It does make for some fun television though. I love Gomez. Thanks for watching.
@@GfwTrains All model trains are valuable. And you could never get enough of Gomez! 🚂
Too true on both statements 👍
I'm guessin' AF helped the model train$ hobby somewhat.
Some other YTer did post wrecks on here though, must be rich like Gomez!
A multi millionaire like Gomez would not care !
wonderful😬
You got to love the Addams family. Thanks for watching.
I love the train layout on Addams family
5 identical train wrecks from the identical angle. They only had 3 trains and one camera. Movie magic. Art Carney as Santa.
You gotta love TV magic. Thanks for watching...oh and good eye on the TZ Santa.
I had that exact same controller when I was little (in the 60s and early 70s). My dad bought it. Those were some fun times.
Lots of good times had with an old Lionel ZW. We have two controlling the layout around our Christmas tree...and the rest of your house. :-) Thanks for watching.
Nice old layout.🚂🚞🚞🚞🚞🚞🚞
That one sure is a fun layout isn’t it? You gotta love the Addams family. Thanks for watching.
@@GfwTrains Your more than welcome

Moral of the story, NEVER let this man play with your trains! Lol
LOL, too true. Never let Gomez in your train room. Thanks for watching.
I agree with you, i would do what Uncle Fester said, shoot him in the back.😄
Gfw Trains let’s hope he does not Blow up all my train too, same goes for my layout
Or even starting to crash it
(The following reply is false.)
Yeah, he blew up my Thomas and Friends TrackMaster engines!
What an enjoyable view🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉
The Addams family is the best aren't they? Thank you so much for watching.
Not the same layout in Twilight Zone, but very similar. No Bridge. Thanks for the vid. Well done!
You are right. After a bit of further research, I found out that the layout was a display layout that Lionel made. Thanks for watching.
There is a bridge (@8:11) to the right, in front of the man with a black hat and glasses....kinda looks like he's planning to blow up the bridge!
Also, the Twilight Zone layout uses two rails, and the Addams layout uses three rails. An interesting inclusion in your video though.
Nice setup, tho..
The Addams family is the best aren't they? Thank you so much for watching.
Best video I’ve seen in years 😎👍👍
Absolutely wonderful 😎👍👍
So kool 🚂❤️😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much for the kind words. You have to love the Addams family, especially their trains. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
great editing, great to see all the uncut train bits!.
of note i don't think the twillight zone set is the same one there looks more to it .
also some of the trains on the addams family are marx not lionel.
as for the train wrecks it looks like the same explosion was used for each show. it was only done once/
great show!
I love the Addams family and I love that they used trains as a prop on the show. You are right, they are probably different layouts. After doing some more research, I think the layout design was a stock Lionel factory display layout. Thanks for watching.
Man I love the old classic trains takes me back to the old days
You have to love the Addams family. Am I right? It sure does take you back. Thanks for watching.
NICE VIDEO very INTERESTING and INFORMATIVE THANK you FOR your VIDEO and your TIME 👍👍👍👍👍

I like Lionel so this was cool thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words and watching the video. Also, thank you for taking the time to comment. Cool that you like Lionel.
First time I have seen these scenes. Amazing.
Beautiful layout ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed watching Gomez blow up his trains. The final clip of Twilight Zone was "Night of the Meek" starring Art Carney as a drunken department store Santa. It was not filmed, it was an early, experimental attempt to record programs on videotape to cut costs.
Wow, that is interesting about the TZ episode. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks! I was told by someone that the various train wrecks were all the same scene redone. I loved the Addams Family TV show but hated the part about Gomez always wrecking the trains. Now I know he only did it once ☺
"oh we'd keep the people off"
shows how he is a good person
Gotta love Gomez. Thanks for watching.
Used to be one my fave parts of the original series , Guy with his train set that takes great delight at them crashing but is that not what most boys do with their toys 🙂
Good Show Old Man!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
How does one notice things like the train layout used in the Twilight Zone was the same one used in the Adams Family? That is amazing.
I guess I have too much time on my hands...I need a hobby. LOL! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
The horn at 2:40 was the sound of the Cannonball train from Petticoat Junction! I'd know it ANYWHERE!
You have great ears! I agree, it does sound like the same soundtrack. :-) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I loved this show when I was young. I used to run home after school to
Watch two episodes on super station
Tbs.
The Addams family is the best, aren't they? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Lionels we’re tough. I ran my 2018 set off the dining room table loads of times and it survived with a broken cow catcher. Still runs and part replaced. How many toys if that era could take that treatment and still work?
Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!!! Gomez really puts the trains through their paces. Thanks for watching.
Nothing like the good ole ZW.
When you want power, go to the ZW. You are right, there is nothing like it. Thanks for watching.
I like how it’s the absolute same crash at every one of them
Isn't that hilarious?!? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Loved the trains. Looked forward to watching as a kid.
The Addams family is so fun. Thanks for watching. I love the parts where they feature trains.
"Dahling, you have such a way with trains." --- If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that ;)
Too funny. If I had a nickel every time I heard that I would have no cents. :-)
I loved that show still makes me laugh 😂
Nice article on this layout in both shows on CTT's special magazine "Lionel Trains of the 1960's."
That is really neat. I have always wanted to know more about that layout. I am going to have to go and see if I can find that issue of CTT. Thanks!
ctt.trains.com/issues/2019/lionel-trains-of-the1960s
Lol they are the same in both shows. This must have been common as I've noticed in the old western TV shows they used the building from Doc's office in Gunsmoke disguised in other shows as a different place. Even on Gunsmoke they would try to disguise Doc's office to use in other scenes.
Lots of old "TV magic" going on there. You got to do what you got to do when you are on a budget. Those old shows are the best though. Thanks for watching.
I am just like Mr. Adams. I love crushing my model trains, but I fix them don’t worry.
I loved the Adams Family show. But HOW could he do that to those classic Lionel trains! AUGHHH!! Ok, better now.
Too funny! I al a ya cringe seeing those classics crash and go up in flames. It sure does make a train lover cringe. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Gfw Trains I mean they were not classics at the time lol

That is some recreation. I sure would love to have seen that. Thanks so much for watching.
"Great spirits above give me a sign, shall I be joyous or shall I be damned".

It's the same train wreck footage every time, yet it's still hilarious to watch. 😂
1st time here. Know what I wish? ... I wish people would read the comments because then you wouldn't have so many saying, " Hey, they used the same scene every time ".
Too funny Karl. I appreciate everyone commenting not he video...but...it is true :-). Thank you for coming by and checking out my channel. I hope you enjoyed the videos. We have fun making them and sharing them. I appreciate you taking the time to comment as well. We will see you around the roundhouse.
I notice that sometimes they have two ovals but at other times they have an oval surrounding a figure-8
I like how they just use the same wreck scene even when they are different trains running on the layout
Always liked the Addams family blowing up the trains when i was a kid.
Me too, the layout is great and I love Gomez. Thanks for watching
