Tekken 2 chracter select : • Tekken 2 Character Sel...
A little unknown to some but this video shows all the animations for the character select screen used in the first Tekken game. This was only to be seen in the arcade version of the game.
The character select for the PlayStation 1 version used still images from the animation.
The music is from the arcade character select arcade including the announcer, the announcer voiced all the 8 main characters' names including sub-bosses Lee and Wang only. The remaining name announcer was finalized on Tekken for PlayStation.

Man, it's weird to see how these characters evolved not just visually, but also in their personality. Lee Chaolan goes from a stone cold serious business look to "OoOoOoH ExCeLlEnT!"

@SaviorGabriel Well actually Lee does have a playful victory laugh and he jumps in the air when he wins in Tekken 1, so he wasn’t 100% serious, he always had his charisma and playfulness the whole time. But I do agree, he becomes even more playful and less serious as the series progresses.
@Goddess Shadow T5’s boss wasn’t all that hard. Im no pro at Tekken but i played T5 for like 200 hrs and beat Jinpachi on hardest difficulty settings with diff characters. We just had to time the sidestep right when he did his fireball…Akuma in T7 was more difficult to beat in my opinion
@@Ograws Were you alive in 94? I was. Yes you can convey emotion in video games back then and Tekken 1 had emotions through the music, background story, and endings....The reason behind the big changes in Tekken is that one of the original creators quit working on the games before T3

Funny how Yoshi and Kunimitsu are using the same animation. They sure went into... different paths.
Because it's rough character. They need one fast so they make Yoshimitsu with kunai. She even have same voice.
Yeah the budget was not the best for this game. So they had to recycle animations.
Later on in tekken 2 kunimitsu became a totally different character

I don't think that the kids back then could've imagined that this simple arcade fighter game could one day become a full series and of the most known titles of the genre.
Lol. I remember I went over someone’s house for a party back in ‘94 and they were playing it in a room. I remember the character select screen for the VS mode didn’t have the character’s pictures but just a list of names. I was thinking, what kind of cheesy game is this?

Tekken's 1&2's animation/aesthetic always gave me the creeps, even now.
Well T2 was not that bad, but with T1 I understand, hehe!
I never found Tekken 2's animations to be too bad as a little kid (except Devil, had nightmares after fighting him). Tekken 1 though...man, some of those just look wild.
T1 & 2 in general were so scary to me. 3,TT1, 4 & 5 were the best Tekken runs ever. 💯

Sometimes I find amazing that this Tekken and Tekken 3 were both in the PS1.
Well 1 and 2 were directed by Seiichi Ishii, Katsuhiro Harada had more involvement in the directing and producing department in the entries after 2.
How about Virtua Fighter 2 on Saturn? It looks like a Dreamcast game compared to the first one. I really miss that evolutionary era in gaming. Everything was happening so quickly and it was all so exciting
Heihachi looks like he arrives from a rave party. Anyway in that time I was mindblowed to things like that.

This was the 90s. Computers aren't as exactly as perfect back then. Plus the game is too bulky to control and it jump so high and gravity
The sub bosses and heihachi are totally rigged and very buffed back then. Later in future games heihachi is tone down and became a complete different character. Harada have mained heihachi since tekken 2 all the way to tekken 7
If you pause at just the right moment, you can see the back of Yoshimitsu's eyeballs. How disturbing.
My actual first time playing Tekken 1 was from Tekken 5's Arcade History. I've already played Tekken 2 up through 4 by that point.

What a long way we have come, these characters looks so cursed but these days video game characters are so realistic they could be photos of real people
king in tekken 1 always confused me. even more in the arcade version.
i know the jaguar head is just a mask but here he can somehow control the tongue (going mlelm). and makes animal sounds when he attacks or gets hurt.
Pretty cool how the game series started with these kind of funny looking 3D character model, and later they improved and had pretty big jump with pre-rendered and in game model quality.
I wish this would turn into a trending meme where people have to voice all the characters during their animations.

My first Tekken was Tekken 2 in arcades. At the time it blew me away how painful the throws looked.
Animations, music and sounds bring me back to good times, when I unboxed the Playstation with Tekken 1 found under Christmas Tree on 1997 and I jumped for happiness!!!

I mean, there's authenthic 8-bit-like indie games like Shovel Knight, Cyber Shadow, Curse of the Moon... i want Low-Polygonal and Silicon 3D graphics to become it's own thing too.
