Funny thing is that when I first started playing after the DLC update, the game ran flawlessly in ultrawide without any mods. After a few seconds, post processing loads in and adds the black bar. So yes, Elden Ring does support Ultrawide. They just decided to add the black bars.

Good guide thank you! As mentioned on another comment, I had to rename the EAC file and then place the original EAC name in the copy of the eldenring.exe game file. When I tried to just copy paste, it wanted to make a duplicate name copy, but this solved it and everything else worked as described. Cheers!
Just wanted to say this still works as of Dec 2024. I ran this on my gaming rig without a single issue but my SSD crashed and I had to replace and reinstall win11 from scratch. I followed the instructions but kept getting some DLL on Flawless startup. The game would also play in Ultrawide mode for 10 secs and then switch back to non wide screen. Then I noticed the small fine print on Flawless website. This app is written in C+ so it utilizes Visual C++ runtime and the download link is there. Install BOTH the x86 and x64 versions and then launch Flawless. Works like a charm. After spending 600 hours into the game, I'm starting a brand new game at Level 1 ...this will tie me till Avowed comes out in Feb.

this method previously worked for me, however, now when I rename the eldenring exe, to start_protected_game, it changes its icon the EAC one. which also starts as soon as I boot the game. cant seem to disable it at all.
Widescreen defaults to the C drive so if your running to a different hard drive you need to change the path in options. S:\SteamLibrary\steamapps it will look something like that. Basically locate the folder in the hard drive that says steam library, open it and select common and press ok and the mod should work (IF you have multiple drivers with steam libraries for different games like me you'll have to change this depending on were the game in installed.)
Nice video. I tried installing the flawlesswidescreen mod but the application won't launch. It said it's due to the MSVCR100.dll file not being found. I tried reinstalling c++ packages for both x86 / x64 bit. Didn't work. I'm unsure what to do, as there is not really any information about this issue besides the reinstall of c++ packs...
Good explanation but you won't be able to open the eldenring.exe individually unless you rename the EAC file and do the copy eldenring.exe and rename it as start_protected_game. Steam launches automatically when you try to open eldenring.exe and it does within the start_protected_game.exe file. Hope it helps!
That's interesting. I ran it directly through the elsenring.exe at release for months offline. Wonder if it got changed at some point. I've used the rename method for awhile.
I haven't encountered this issue. Is it an very old save perhaps? Does the game load without flawless widescreen running? If its an issue with the save file I know there is an app on nexus to fix save files.

It works when im in Windowed Borderless mode. However, when in Fullscreen, my refresh rate is limited to 75Hz. Also, when in Windowed mode, the text seems a bit more blurry...the overall image quality is lower than in Fullscreen. Am i doing something wrong, ideas? Tnx :)

I don't believe so. Bit of a trade off. If you want to play online you can always replace the exe files you changed and just don't launch the flawless widescreen app.

After I renamed the the application "start_protected_game.exe" to "start_protected_game.exe original" , it didnt turn into a file like in the video. It was still an application. Is it dangerous to use it with that happened?
I don't think it matters but when you launch the game make sure you get the prompt you are offline. Also the cloud save does work still. I use it to bounce between PC and steam deck.

I also got a 3440x1440, and I think the patch we got today bugged out the widescreen. So, prob got to wait till the person who made the mod on the flawless widescreen updates it.
I've had this happen without the mod. The game is actually drawing the full resolution then puts up the bars. Sometimes the bars don't load for a minute and you get ultra wide briefly.
I had 5120x1440 until the patch. Crazy that I had to download a mod just so half of my monitor is not black... I was close to getting a refund from Steam because it is unacceptable to not support ultrawides for offline non-competitive play.
people, I can tell this tool no longer works since today's Patch v1.12 update, I'm afraid. Elden ring is even gone from their Currently supported titles list.
That supported title list hasn't been updated in ages. Tons of games in the flawless widescreen app not on that list. They usually update the addon pretty after the game is patched and with this being such a big release my hope is it gets fixed quickly as I would love to get started tonight.
I refuse to buy this game (or even play it for free) until they add ultrawide support. Having to crack a purcahsed game or use 3rd party softaware in 2024 to make something work as it should is just unacceptable. I get not supporting 32:9, but 21:9 has been around for over a decade. If small indie companies can do 32:9 and 21:9, why can't the big studios do this? It's just lazy development.
What a joke man. PVP is such an afterthought to me in these games (it's usually janky and busted) but the bloodstains, messages, and occasional co-op add a lot of charm and really up the fun factor of PVE. I shouldn't be forced to use a narrower resolution because a minority of the player base takes PVP too seriously. Just implement an fov slider and be done with it.

Playing games on ultra wide is such a game changer. It should be the standard especially for 3rd person games

Haven't touched ER in a year but now coming back to it, I gotta have wider FOV and unlocked FPS, the default makes my eyes hurt.

Delete your renamed elden ring.exe and take orig off the renamed protected file.

You should be able to go to the install directory the same way to disable EAC. Just need to navigate to the location you installed.

I followed this video to a T and am currently playing the new DLC in ultrawide mode. I think the frames are locked at 60, however.
I just tested and the FPS unlock is working for me. Make sure you have the box checked and the setting above 60 FPS in flawless widescreen app.

If small indie companies can do 32:9 and 21:9, why can't the big studios do this? It's just lazy development.

What a joke man. PVP is such an afterthought to me in these games (it's usually janky and busted) but the bloodstains, messages, and occasional co-op add a lot of charm and really up the fun factor of PVE. I shouldn't be forced to use a narrower resolution because a minority of the player base takes PVP too seriously. Just implement an fov slider and be done with it.
