    A few more tips:
    - While you can mostly ignore VOL1 of the Epic Book Quest, I would encourage people to completely go through all of VOL II, starting with Moria and ending in Mirkwood. Why? Because doing all of that will (throughout the journey) open up a total of 8 Skirmish Instances, 3 in Moria and 5 in Mirkwood. There is a yearly event involving skirmishes, usually in February, and you are going to want to do these. As of 2021, all of Moria, Lothlorien, and Mirkwood are FREE so everyone can do these.
    - You hit the note on the completionists part. It is actually impossible to complete the whole game because there are so many components that have changed, zones that have changed, deeds removed, deeds added, etc.... some things are no longer available such as certain cosmetic pets, steeds and titles, and others require completing old, old raids that no one does anymore but require a full group (even at level 140 doing e.g. a level 65 Dar Narbugud raid) because of the mechanics involved. So don't sweat being a completionist, as it will not happen. Accept it and move on ;)
    - Do not use the "SELL ALL" button. You can only buy back about 20 items or so, so if you sell everything that sellable in one go and sell 40 items and then realize that one of those items was a hard to get quest item...... and you can't buy it back because it fell out of the last 20 items sold, you are screwed. So sell individual items individually.

For me, the story quest line is the whole point of the game. That's how you participate in the lore and become part of the story. I only use the side quests as necessary to level up so I can continue with the story.

Wow, thank you. That actually helped me a lot. I'm a new player and i have so many quests to do. I love side quests and taking my time, but I'm still a little overwhelmed. And everywhere i go i see more and more quest givers. So i don't know if i should accept every quest I see, so i skip some of them. Especially since so many quests move you around different parts of the world. So now I'm gonna focus mostly on the main story and then do side ones when i feel like it or if i need to, to level.

Personally im sick of endgame. Ive quit all my 140s, and with the addition of the difficulty slider I created a new character, doing all soloable content, quests and deeds while using a Stone of the Tortoise until I need to level for the next area.
Even after 15 years of playing, with some off and on time, I have found so much content I missed by leveling too quickly, even if I wasn't trying to level fast. I'm having so much more fun playing this way, and even if it takes me years to reach endgame again i am a OK with that

    • @BN-pn2jk
      @BN-pn2jk Год назад +1

Actually intending to do the same.
Have characters at certain lvls to experience the content on level.
Just to have a bit of a more challenge.
And also to fill gaps which I had.
      PS.
I even think of doing same for regions that I missed or were added.

You should also level up any class you try to at least level 20. When I tried Rune Keeper at first I hated it because it wasn't strong. But after helping a friend with his account and Rune Keeper and discovering the Rune Stones I fell in love with the class. I now main a Rune Keeper.

I would also mention the Stone of the Tortoise as a cheap purchase in the LOTRO store which can help avoid "out-levelling" areas too quickly. This is a very good solution for those who DO want to be a completionist but maintain a challenge all the way through the game.

  • @jogumby

Good advice, especially the completionist part. Unless they bring back another slow progression server it's almost impossible to do everything on-level. Take your time too! This isn't like other MMOs where the end game is king. LOTRO is very much about the journey! Oh, and I'd recommend doing VIP because a few of the problems Aubrey mentioned kind of go away or become less bothersome. Great video!

Tied to deeds, I would say remember to use your spells/skills. You know, the ones you leave off your bar or never use even though they are on the bar. A lot of skills have deeds associated with them and how many times you cast/use them. - Take care. ( I am a self professed Deed monger ... )

I suggest this to all new players, don't try to do every single quest that pops up or you will get overwhelmed. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, craft a little or a lot, join a music group, etc. On the new legendary servers, there were people that went from 1 to 50 in 4 hours. What a waste of time. Sure, they might be VIPers who have played for 17 years but I like to start over sometimes so I can see everything over again and there are new low-level areas I have never played. My main is a dwarf champion that started when there was no reputation system and he's kindred with the elves but neutral to Thorin's Hall. Slow it down, earn rep, buy tons of cosmetics.
Try not to min-max. Leave that for the end game. Learn your class and join fellowships and make friends. You can solo LOTRO with any class, but the game takes on new meaning when you are in a fellowship. Join a guild. Don't buy player homes that have upkeep. It's too hard to maintain the rent every month even with the ability to pay months upfront. Get the other housing that is one-time cost.
I would suggest doing the main storyline. I've gotten it down to a science - it flows with your starting area and in some cases may even open new areas. For example, early on you get a quest that takes you straight to Rivendell. I used it to allow me to talk to the stable master so I can come back to Rivendell later on when my quests take me there. There comes a time when you can get into the main storyline before you are ready and that's ok, just continue questing in the area until you are strong enough to do the main storyline. I have a 36th level Boerning on the legendary server that is just starting Book 3 - it's light blue to me now. I'm almost done with Lonelands, so Book 3 takes me to a new area that is higher level. Perfect. The main storyline is supposed to act as way to show you new areas because unless you are an old player, you won't know what comes after Lonelands. You might be tempted to go to Angmar when Evendim might be a better area.

  • @BN-pn2jk
    @BN-pn2jk Год назад +2

I remember when I started the game for the first time (my first mmo also) it was so confusing. Luckily chosen Hunter which proved to be very convenient.
I pretty much immediately run out of storage.
I sold all items just to keep going, so money was not an issue.
Maybe one tip from me - don't take shortcuts.
The Ring icon on the map shows you the straight line to the target.
I found several instances I just went straight and it took me longer than if I had to go by route or actually READ the map.
Which is another tip I would have. It was changed so probably better now, but read the map and learn how to navigate.
As for the ones you shared.
    Completionist is a pain.
I have not done any crafting early on and wanted to do it.
So I went back a bit and started that.
I try to complete as much as I can in some regions on a single character but that takes too much time and still not at that max lvl.
That's very long, unless you regularly stockpile all those items.
And without that extra space you run out quickly of storage.
Definitely recommend buying all full expansions, not quest packs.
    Even for little real money.
You get perks that are worth it + Lotro Points.
Carry all for crafting is useful although will fill quickly.lots of different drops from different zones.
If you can spare, use other characters as storage.
    F. E. Bank storage or house.
    That helps a lot.
    Don't buy too many cosmetics.
I like those and usually buy once a year on the festival but those take space.
    5/6 pieces usually.
I don't use the wardrobe - never thought this would be useful, but all you can do is equip those to your cosmetic slots and just move items to another character.
Last regret I have is I did not read the quest storyline.
Literally just skipped some as had thst goal of lvling up or grinding.
That's something I am now doing with the epic line as side quests are... Well side and not always interesting.
Instances are a huge story additions but if you missed some important events, you don't get how those relate to other storyline.
If only I was wiser, I could at least explain what the storyline really was.
It's difficult even to watch someone playing as is very long, but the game really tests you.
Suggest focusing on a single aspect of the game to get comfort in it.

Aubrey, you are awesome. Thank you for the advice. Long time player here, picked up the game in 2012 on disc, subbed for years, left the game with 9 characters over 5 or 6 years ago, tried to log in recently and my account was gone. Started over as a free to play, went VIP 3 days later and I'm playing it again. What's weird is I have so many memories from this game that when I go back to certain places I know my way around. Thorin's Hall for example. What I hate about the game is how they nickel and dime the living crap out of you for inventory space and mount speed. But you do get a mount now for nothing even if it's like 38 percent speed. Used to have to level up to 20 and make it to Hengstacer Farm and pay. So that was a pleasant surprise. But the monetization is still pretty brutal. I'm saving every darn Lotro point I can. My two favorite characters, Warden and Lore Master. Warden was the first character I played. My Loremaster, I used to grow pipe tobacco in the Shire and watch my character smoke it. lol The different kinds of smoke rings you could make was pretty cool. Different kinds of tobacco too. There is really no MMORPG as detailed as LOTRO is. It's an unusual unique game.

    • @aubreytheweirdone
      @aubreytheweirdone  10 месяцев назад

Aww thanks for the compliment. I honestly can only compare the monetization systems from LOTRO and SWTOR. Personally I felt like SWTOR nickel and dimes the crap out of me over LOTRO. Like at least with LOTRO you get so much free content till level 95ish and SWTOR (where it’s faster to level) I have to pay for content at about level 60ish or so. I felt like SWTOR had way less to give on their free to play model unlike LOTRO so I give LOTRO some credit there. I hope that helps give some insight!

I started as a captain initially while playing with friends WAY back when it required a subscription. Eventually I found my way to the warden and I just LOVED it. I have a love for classes who are durable and stay in the fight due to skill rather than heavy armor. Not to mention the self healing and flexibility the warden gives you. You need to memorize the different gambits and what they do, but I had no real issue there.

Hunter and Guardian are both great starter characters for very different reasons.
Hunter is pretty straight forward (except yellow, yellow is weird) and operates as a pretty standard ranged DPS class. So if you play a lot of those in other MMOs, hunter will probably be easy to pick up.
Guardian was the class I started with many moons ago. What makes it a good starter class is the blue line. In sword and board mode, you have tons of armor and health so survival is a lot easier. It does take a bit longer to mow down a group of baddies though. When you feel you have the hang of it, you can swap to red line and have a pretty capable melee DPS character.
My bonus beginning class is Loremaster. The LM gets to summon a bear pet that can keep aggro pretty well through about level 70ish and then pets kinda lose their oomf. Be forewarned though, at cap, groups expect them to trait as yellow for buffing/debuffing and no one levels in yellow so it's a bit of a shock. SSG is in the middle of an LM rework now though so a lot could change when that's complete :)

Cool tips, though as a returner I find them a bit basic, as well as in terms of class choice... I followed that, choose champion and hunter and ended up bored with it almost gave up on the game again, then tried warden and I love it... (I used to play LM and Minstrel before). To each their own, from what I can see from your content you mostly like less advanced classes and that is a playstyle, people who enjoy advanced classes as a returner (or maybe even as new to the game (not to MMOs just LOTRO)) I would recommend following your heart and choosing a more complex class and probably also do some landscaping difficulty (3-4 maybe). Especially if you come from the early eras when games used to be challenging... especially for LOTRO where there is content during lvling I believe there is more value to choosing sth more complex for players who like that playstyle - you can always downgrade if its too difficult.

i have a fun one to add that probably (hopefully) doesnt happen to most people but ive done it twice now. make sure you lock weapons so they cant be sold until you want to sell them. once you get legendary weapons you dont have to worry about this so much but twice now ive accidentally sold my off hand weapon on my hunter (because it cant be legendary) and i will go fishing, forget that i still have my fishing rod equipped, and accidentally sell my off hand weapon because its now in my bag :D - hilarious but annoying :D

Long time LOTRO player, first time...channel watcher? Any way, great video. I have tried and given up on "completionist mode" at least three times. It just doesn't work for me...or 99% of the population.
Edit: I also love tip #4. It's so *difficult* to make it a habit because this is an MMO and quest-heavy MMO at that! But a good chunk of these quests have great writing and interesting stories, even if there are still a lot of "hey do this thing because I said so." The lore nuggets are so excellent when you find them. That goes for reading skills as well! There is a lot of depth and interaction between the skills that you only find in the tooltips. This kind of sucks - I wish there was a better, more visual way for the game to explain this but it is what it is. As someone trying to learn Mariner this goes double because it seems like Mariner skills are just a web of interactions.

I appreciate this. And the one about the classes you mentioned here that I went check out after which helped me decide on hunter. I've tried this game a couple times over the years and never had anything against it. I just always had other things going. Kind of giving it a hard look again since I don't think I'm ready to go back to FFXIV yet.
I don't know if I'll find what I'm looking for in terms of a game, or a community to stay long-term, but at least taking in some lore and exploring the world should be fun.

Hey Grayaid, I’m glad this video was able to help! Hunter is a great class that allows you to take more of Middle-Earth in and enjoy the scenery. I totally understand the time constraints of starting a new MMO. It’s tough, but I swear LOTRO certainly is beautiful and the story is worth it.

Hey Spencer! Thanks for checking out the videos! I'm glad you did. I'd say getting a sub at least for one month is worth it! Personally, I'd try to do it as late to the game as possible as you can either grind the eternity out of deeds to get the endgame content for free or make it easier on yourself and get a sub with all the content included and also it's easier to access town services like selling and bank space.

Right off the bat, spend a little on some more inventory space. You are too far off from affording 5 more spaces, so get a few more of those. Then if it isn't already available, make sure to buy the virtue slots that aren't available. Virtues=better character stats. After that, take every little bit and save towards expansions like Mordor for example. That way once you hit around level 100 or so, you can get access to those right away. But that's if you plan to play the game for that long :)

oh and the last time i saw anyone being short on money was about 13 years ago...we're making tons just by playing now

My first character almost finished Evendim, and I have 9 characters currently. They even go to Ered Luin and the Shire to max them out if they started in Bree-land 😂
