I've used most of these for years and forget that many players don't know these. They are very helpful and, in the case of warsteeds, almost necessary. Keep your quickslots locked while you play so that you don't have to say "where did my skill go?" I would constantly pull a skill off my quickslot during battle and have to replace it . I also lock them in session play for the same reason.
Great video. First time I was in Moria, way back when I griped about how it was too dark and I couldn't see. A guildmate told me about the light settings and it makes a huge difference.
I use the Skill Queue in another way. It pops up automatically whenever you get in combat, so if you're in a densely wooded area for instance, and the Skill Queue pops up, it means you've aggroed something whether you saw the mob or not. Also, if your character is running away from a mob, the moment the Skill Queue disappears from the desktop, it means the mob has stopped pursuing. With regards to the Warhorse, I'm always using it. It takes some practice to get good with it, but you master it eventually; I'm even using it in Minas Tirith. Another thing, there is something in Combat Options called Directional Selection Indicator that I find quite useful. When activated, you will see a series of small dots on the ground emanating from your character when you are targeting a mob or other. If the dots are Red, you're targeting an enemy (not always, but just experiment and figure it out.) It's especially useful for range characters to know at a glance if what they think they're targeting is actually what they are targeting (looking at you hunters... hehehe!)
I'm just starting back up after years away from the game. This video is uber helpful! I used to have to install bag mods and now you can just add the bag slots to each other ! It's crazy lol. Now I can have my two or three giant bags without ui add-ons
Welcome back to the game! I'm glad this video was helpful and yes, I remember the mod days for bags. There are still some good bag mods out there, but hopefully aren't as necessary anymore.
This is great for flexibility. I have a teeny bag open with my consumables, etc to leave my power trays clearer and one big bag I keep close in combat.
The auto steed slow down is one of my favorites. Another that I use is disabled combat music. It’s so helpful when you’re kill deeding with the constant shift between landscape and combat music.
I'd add that you actually have TWO sets of quickslot bars - toggleable with the up/down arrows on the right of the bottom-most quick slot bar. That's where I keep e.g. travel skills and other non-combat things. And I've mapped the toggle to CTRL+Page Up. There's two toggles but pre-warsteed you only need one. Even with warsteed, one is enough for me.
Recently just discovered your channel, and I love the content! As someone who is a 12 year vet of the game, this video was the first I knew of locking your quickslots XD Could have saved me so much pain in the past lol Loved the video!
Aww thanks! I appreciate you checking out my channel. And yeah the lock for quick slots is so vital. I think my first three years I never knew it existed and yeah it was a lot of pain. I’m glad I was able to help!
Thanks for the tips! I actually added 2 quickslot bars and kept them vertical for the bottom right of the screen. Its a MMO habit and lets me dump off less used abilities and auras etc vs having a large blob of skills in the center
I put all my travel skills on Quick Bar 4, leave it vertical and move it over to the side of the screen. You don't need it in combat, so the fact that it's out of the way is no problem.
Why I turned auto-loot off: In long raids you can easily get your hands full of random crap. But you can not get loot from boss boxes into your overflow, you have to free a space in your bags. And if there is more killing going on it can be tricky to actually keep a free space long enough to get stuff out of a box.
@@aubreytheweirdone Hey, gotta a few questions. Is there a way to get a better map? Should I do missions/skirmishes at level 21 or just follow the area/epic quests? Are there any essential plugins I need? I have many more but those are the most pressing. Kinda lost atm.

Hi, I'm weird! Nice video! Good points all, and well presented, and not too speedy. I'm weird in the speed hearing department. I'm going to try some of these from your perspective and see what happens. I decided 'Loot All' wasn't my thing when I get surprised by having a full inventory and no time to stop and mail or drop stuff. My weirdness knows there's good loot in that Orc's ditty bag, and I want it now! If I remember I'm scapping up all the stuff every time, then I can stop and sort when there's time. Pretty much the same as clicking the Loot Bag when there's time. Plus there's time to let stuff settle in there before I need to throw out anything or find a vault. Oh, and VIP is really good weird! I'll go out of the way to click on 'Wenda' just for the vault services on the road, plus the mailman sitting on my shoulders. Is there not some way to get even more Quickslots than 5 rows? Maybe it's a plugin, but I could use about 8 rows at least! I play weird. I leave them unlocked too, even though I get myself in trouble disenclicking one off to the side now and then. And I sometimes look and see a 'missing tooth' in the line and can't remember what it was... I just find myself rearranging them often, but it's not so hard to make the switch. I'll try it!
To others I am sure it was helpful @@aubreytheweirdone But with my 1,700+ Hours in game? I saw a few things I had not thought about during the 1st Week of play. Then my gaming experience and common sense ranching took over, and off I rode to many a success. 👍👍🤴 5⭐
Hey, warsteed steering is cool, they are drift horses. You have to plan how you will slide around a corner, but very doable in Bree, Minas Tirith, the only bummer is when you travel faster than the map updates...
Agreed. If you promote the option to use auto-slowdown you consign those players to never learn the means to control the war-stead at all it's speeds, that only comes via practice. Even the other choice to select a gait limits players to 4 set speeds. With each of the 16 available having it's own associated turn rate you are missing out on so much. Trouble is that so many take this "easy" option and think it was a good choice. Appalling choice! As is promoting such to others.
Thanks! And yeah you will run out faster, but either way, when your inventory is full the pending loot bag will automatically start picking up everything. But if I just rely on my pending loot bag and that gets full, then I have to take time to sort through it and put stuff in my inventory before I can start picking up everything again. Just saves the extra step of sorting your inventory out a little later for you with auto loot.
Few minor things I do. Saving and loading the UI layout is super helpful when making a new character or even when game throws you in as someone else for a history quest. I also have keys set up to select closest item, using that item to rather result mine or or collect quest items. Same with getting up or off horse and auto run on the mouse. I forget what the setting is called but I have the tiny dotted line showing where the event, friend or item I've selected it's related to my character.
I dont the Warsteed much, if I'm in a precarious area or crowded area I hit the walk hotkey and it toggles between 4 different movements speeds for the Steed, walk, trot, canter, and gallop if I recall
The game is beautiful when all things are at max - 3 monitors at 5760 x 1080 and 144hz. Barely using 4GB video RAM. The game engine is being taxed by what my machine is. Got a laptop for using Lotro Wiki
Aubrey, How do I get rid of some of those elements to where I don't see health bars and such? Like you had it in the beginning of the video when you were riding your horse.
Thank you that is definitely useful , I have a question for you lady if I may , is it worth buying some expansion? And what kind of expansion would you recommend? Thank you.
Hey there! So I think the first expansions you may need when you are level 95-100ish. I recommend getting any Gondor quest packs if possible and save for the Mordor expansion.
is there any option to turn off the skill q? I have searched everywhere. With melee classes it completely ruins the flow because the skills don't stay in q if you are 1 inch outside of range so you wind up skipping steps in your rotation because the skill you clicked didn't fire.
@@sandcasterofveeshan366 there is an old mod for this. It doesnt make the mouse arrow bigger but puts a well reckgnizable circle round it. It has lots of customization options. In battle this mod is crucial for me.
I did have an issue with directx11. I think I had to uninstall the game a few times for it to work for me. Not sure, definitely check the LOTRO forums for help on that.
