Hunter is fine but I found as I got into the later levels on the legendary server, his ranged options were starting to shrink. Landscape works fine, but I found I couldn't solo instances as well as LM because of the melee battles. Hunter just isn't made for hand-2-hand combat. If you get just into range and can effectively setup your attack, yeah it's really fun and they will be dead before they reach you.

my first character was Loremaster back in the days when LOTRO came out. And oh boy it was fun! I had such a blast, especially when soloing higher level enemies. It was one time that I was trying (and succeeded) to solo 2 elite trolls in Evendim- Annuminas if I remember correclty. I had a whole crowd cheering for me out of nowhere for about 30 minutes. Not one intervene like gents and ladies they were, but most important not one complaint about taking so much to take them down. Good moments !!!

I always say that a Beorning is like taking a holiday in Middle Earth. Areas where my alts need to sneak around and pick off mobs one by one unless they be overwhelmed, you can just barge in a grab multiple mobs and not be worried you might end up dead and if you are defeated, you can try again in tank or healer line which increases your survival chances dramatically.

I started Lotro a month ago. Made Lore-master as my first character, which is lvl 32 now. Started also Guardian - lvl 21 - but found it super boring compared to LM. Guardian is just basically all-around jack-of-all-trades -good, but lacks character because of that. My Beorning is lvl 20 & I think it's in-between. Personally like LM most enjoyable, but would hope Beorning's bear-form to be a bit stronger, so I could just attack everyone as a Giant Bear.

I started with a Loremaster back when the game was released in 2007. I jump in every so often. I've recently have been playing the brawler and I enjoy that class. Champion being my highest toon, then Rune Keeper and Lore-master. Lore-master was a struggle when the pets couldn't properly keep aggro. Half the mobs health had to be gone before you could start cycling all your dots. You also had to be careful because your AOE's always seemed to pull further away mobs when you didn't expect it. Sigh...so many deaths.

Have to disagree about the Lore-master. Granted that it loses pet effectiveness as you go up in level but it gets you there better than a squishy minstrel or rune-keeper.

12 years later, LM would still be my first pick, the trait trees unlock at level 2, so early on you can set up a tanky set up(blue) and a dps set up (red),
I think thr biggest issue people have on loremaster, is that they want to do big damage, and yes, LM can do that, but they're a glass cannon, you need to send your bear, give them protection signs, when you get the sound and purple arrows going inwards, you've got flanking, and the damage sign deals extra damage and heals a little.
Biggest thing i see a lot, is the wrong pet for the job, solo, always bear. DPS burst, lynx (if the stealth hit works its a nice chunk early on). For a more ranged engagement in groups, bog guardian is best imo.
LM has to rely a little on crowd control, cracked earth root, light of dawn stun, the bane flare (for undead) and the other flash stun for anything else.
Lms have good AoE, but it's also smart to crowd control and burn down one at a time so you and your summon don't get overwhelmed. If they're hitting you, your induction gets set back and you can't get the skill out

    • @Bevrast

I started to play three weeks ago, I'm now level 51 LM. I couldn't ask for a better class for me. It's like a mage with too much cc and a pet. I played mage in wow, so I'm used to being squishy. Also I played lightning sorcerer in swtor and black mage in FFXIV, so it's right up my alley. Kinda glad I didn't start a hunter. They are always the best noob class, but I rather identify with the intellectual aspect of LM. And I didn't die until I hit the elite spot in Lone Lands and didn't realize they were elite until it was too late.

"You shouldn't play Warden for your first time or if you are just getting back"
... Unless your main before leaving was a Warden. That muscle memory can come back pretty quick. besides, the combo trees follow the same general concept. Like Red-Green is interrupts and three hit combos
Red-Yellow is two hit combos with the 4th combo being a big shield bash
Green-Red is morale taps and a heal over time skill
    etc.

No worries, it’s truly no bother! I have it in the works to come out with a video for best races vs classes. For now though, I recommend a guardian be a dwarf or human typically. Dwarf is best as they have a racial characteristic that buffs your two most important guardian stats-might and vitality (+15 might, +10 vitality). Not a stout-axe dwarf (they have a minus vitality characteristic). But just a regular dwarf. Men only have a +15 might buff so they are a good choice, but not the best for guard.

Hmm, I’m a heavily solo play oriented player, however I’m also a returned player(stopped 2015, returned only last september) so some of my impressions about the classes I do not prefer may be still outdated.
LM is very complex and obscure class as you mentioned, and I heard that as pet stat do not scale well at the high Lv recently so I understand the choice. It was pretty good class to solo in the old days but I believe it is not anymore, especially for newcomers.
Hunter has been good class to solo for long, maybe after blue line trait tree was invented. Very easy choice.
Warden is simply too strong class to solo and can do every contents with only two gambits after Lv 80 thus I cannot agree with the choice at first, but yellow Warden will be gone soon after U35 then I could barely agree.
Champion/Guardian were never that great solo classes in terms of soloing group contents or fast swift leveling, but could be simple, stable and intuitive, so I think that’s your standard especially compared to Warden.
But then Captain makes no sense at all. It is even more group contents oriented class than Guardian and actually similiar to somewhat tankier LM. I see lots of people pointing that out. Maybe Brawler would be better choice similiar to red Champion.
And I think RK is still decent soloing class, even though not as those good old days, however it is good similar to the way of Warden. It may resemble other RPG’s mage class however not that easy and intuitive(better than LM, only that I admit). I believe red Minstrel rather fits your standard better than RK. It has bit less utility than yellow RK but better AOE burst damage and much easy to control. Minstrel’s group role is different from soloing, though yellow RK is also not group contents friendly. I know RK is easier to do high tier delvings, but then the best class for delving is that Warden.
I tried to achieve more consistency from my point of view. I enjoyed your video and expecting more. Thank you.

    • @luminas5390
      @luminas5390 Год назад

Also lots of people mention Beorning’s high soloing potential, however I feel it is somewhat easier Warden in terms of your standard. So I think it would be in the opposite side to Champion and Guardian.

Tried to make a level 105 Warden from scratch by looking at online info for builds and tips, without ever have tried one. It was simply not possible, it's so hard to use i still cannot wrap my mind over how anyone would ever want to do that kind of mental gymnastics to play it. Lots of props for people who do it, but I had to keep a schema of all combos at all times next to me, and when I play I want to relax, not having to study again and again... I played this game for about a year over 13 years ago, and while I enjoyed it, it always felt like a single-player game to me. I know many would disagree, especially now that most MMORPGs are PvE-focused.
But as an MMO veteran who’s been playing since 2000, having played almost every major MMORPG out there, I’ve seen the golden era of MMORPGs from 2004 to 2010, when most games were heavily PvP-focused. Because of that, I’m still very PvP-focused (unfortunately). For me, there’s no point in dedicating the massive amount of time it takes to develop a character’s raw power in an MMORPG if I can’t directly compete with other players. PvP Arenas and Battlegrounds are the bare minimum to keep me invested (I loved World PvP too, but I could live without it).
That being said, when I played, there wasn’t any of this PvMP stuff. From everything I’ve read and seen about it, it doesn’t really feel like PvP to me.
So... as a veteran LOTRO player, how would you describe the current state of PvP in the game? And if the PvP is garbage, how could someone like me enjoy it without feeling like i felt before, that I’m just playing a single-player game with a built-in social network?

    • @patrickdezenzio4988
      @patrickdezenzio4988 2 дня назад

You missed out on a key part of the game then. Like many games, kinships are where you meet people you play with on a daily basis. When I started on Landroval back in 07, I joined up with a kinship, Baruk Khazad, and it was the best of times. Like with any game, it loses its luster as players stop playing, for various reasons, and I do miss those days. You have to engage people if you want to enjoy the community. I see it every day on Angmar, 6 adventurers out questing. I tend to rp my solitary life, to give it meaning, but I understand what you mean. It's my fault for not taking that step, I can't expect people to invite me.

@@patrickdezenzio4988 When I mentioned that this game has a single-player feel, I didn’t mean it felt like I was playing entirely alone-I played alongside plenty of people. It’s just hard to describe why it still felt like a single-player experience with others around. To me, playing an MMO means being able to actively compete with other players. If I can’t do that, it doesn’t feel like a true multiplayer game. Another MMORPG that gives me a similar vibe is Final Fantasy XIV; I played it for two years because it’s my sister’s favorite, but even there, one of the most popular MMORPGs today, it felt like a single-player game aswell.

I’ve been playing a hunter since beta and I’ve been mostly solo since 2012. I’ve played every class but I always come back.
Almost anything can be done solo. Even at higher levels I can often do damage fast enough to beat small fellowship quests or instances on my own. It takes judgment about who to attack first and who to stun and all of that, but it can be done.
The travel skills make it really easy to get around. Hunters used to be in demand for taxi services quite a bit, but travel has gotten significantly easier for everyone over time.
Hunters aren’t really in demand at end game just because there are so many of us. But I don’t care much for that anyways. And new players aren’t going to be (and shouldn’t be) anywhere near there for a long time. The story is too good to just rush to the end game grind.
I probably only use 6 skills regularly even though I have many more. And if it’s just landscape mobs then I usually just use 2 skills.
I like this because I spend less time worrying about skills and everything and more time focus on the story and the environment. Back when I played with friends I enjoyed using different skills more. I don’t think I’ve even touched traps since then.

I would not recommend new players to play with a guardian despite it being officially categorized as being basic in terms of difficulty by the game devs.
The guardian is the number 1 tank (defender) and the minstrel is the number 1 healer for groups from 3 people onwards.
The guardian has as much pressure as the minstrel because if one of those 2 classes died, it could make the whole group lose the fight.
I would recommend the most for new players to begin first with the hunter as the hunter has more fast travel skills than the other classes which is good for new players who would prefer to try the video game first before paying. The hunter has not much pressure as they can pretend to play by clicking on the automatic attack unlike the guardian or the minstrel who have to play seriously or the group will die.
Then I would recommend the champion in second place as the champion is easy to use and has the least pressure with the hunter when playing in group.
If the hunter didn't have the fast travel skills then I would have recommended the champion for new players as playing with a hunter needs more thinking, planning and preparation like putting traps before attacking your foes as the hunter is weaker in melee and can't wear a heavy armor unlike the champion who can wear heavy armor and can attack the foes with less thinking, planning and preparation than the hunters.

Beornings are an advanced class that is difficult to use
    BUT
Beornings work twice as hard at everything as healers, tanks etc because their abilities come from Rage and the ability to switch between man and bear. Doing something usually costs you rage which you never have enough of. But don't let that frighten you, it's a bit like the warden, you need to use certain skills to boost your rage, switch between forms and always, always enter a fight with rage fully topped up. You have potions that will give you rage and one skill that instantly raises it to 100, which I usually keep for panic situations or if I'm going to be rezzed and I need to start healing the moment I'm up again rather than lose precious time to rebuild my rage.
Once you do get over that curve, you can plan ahead and keep up your rage like a boss. The other day I was doing an instance with a rather squishy captain healer and a fairly OK champ. I knew this big group of mobs was about to pop in and so I put sacrifice (absorb damage from another) on the cappie, used my mass aggro skill, put up my Thickened Hide (60% damage resistance and healing on each hit), hit the second aggro skill, hit the self heal and then also healed the champ. That's how awesome Beornings can be if you learn to play them. Beornings are the only tanks that can heal others if required ...
On landscape they are usually so tough, unless you look for trouble with some major foes or way too many mobs, you can usually survive such fights quite easily though their lack of AOE skills makes them slow to clear them all one at a time.
As for the Lore Master they have two issues, one they do rely massively on pets to do a lot of work, and they also have some pretty solid attack skills, but most come with a significant casting time that can be slowed or even interrupted. If you do group instances, you'll often feel silly since you can barely get one attack in and even tough mobs die by the time the induction of your second attack has barely begun. Two, they are in high demand in yellow line and there is a paradox since you normally don't do yellow in landscape so there is no real incentive to learn all those fancy abilities unless you start doing instances all the time. The main strength of LM's in instances is their ability to control mobs, less so than their combat abilities. They can stun, scare, debuff and drain mobs and bosses. They are required in some instances to control certain mobs and prevent mechanisms in the instance from happening.
Brawlers are very much a medium difficulty class with some finesses regarding their damage boosts etc, but they are like the Beorning and Guardian, extremely durable, but have some really good DPS which means they can take on multiple mobs at any time and their damage means they don't have to solo each one in turn like the Beo, or depend on lower damage with bleeds like the Guardian. I tried tanking, but had some bad experiences with them.
Warden, if you want to play one, my answer is, sure, as your main focus character and keep playing until you know it inside out. Some people have multiple chars, and some people have a Warden.
Minstrel is an underrated class because their red line in landscape is pretty damn scary. They are squishy, but most of their skills and attacks are ranged and instantaneous, which means they deal some solid damage and they are second to none when doing deeds (no need to run up to mobs and hit them in the face), because even hunters have induction times. A solid red line Mini can really lay down the hurt if needed, single damage or even AOE.
Champs are fantastic if you need to do missions or do mob-heavy areas. There is a trait for Champs that will give them a self heal after each foe they defeat so they can run into a brace of mobs aggro them and then start to slice and dice, seeing their morale drop, but then go up again with each mob they defeat. Try that with other classes and it can take up a whole lot more time to get them done.

Folks looking for complexity, challenge, and depth in a class SHOULD choose Warden, in my opinion. My solution to the complex skill combinations is to learn them. I know, I know, obviously. But I am amazed the players simply don't understand the requirements of playing as a Warden. I made my own list of Gambit collections.
Step one is: Don't play in the ranged stance when solo. You just give up too much capability as you are generally going to end up in melee anyway. And usually with hordes of enemies.
Step two is: Start Simple. Don't try to learn everything at once. Learn the basic chains for Heals, ST DPS, AOE DPS, ST+DOT DPS, AOE+DOT DPS, Defense. Practice those chains until they are second nature. Doing Slayer virtues is a great way!
Once you know the chains, you are half-way there. Then start in on the finishers, buffs, and so forth.

The best class to play is the one that lags for you the least. I wish I was joking.
And your wrong about guardian, they have tonnes of aoe. Especially in Yellow, people always sleep on yellow. Champ has more, of course, but is only dps. My go to class. Decent sustain dps, lots of heals and mitigations, can easily be built into a class that can fight 10 or so mobbs at once and just chew them up. Then press 1 button and be healed to full. Really new player friendly. That said, dps wise they aren't really wanted at endgame stuff, so if you are into that you will pretty much be tank and thats it.
I would avoid captain unless your gonna play ONLY captain. This class has MAJOR scaling issues at higher levels, especially dps wise, easily the lowest dps class in the game right now, healing isn't as great as other specs and yellow is decent. Levelling my captain recently to 140 made me nearly quit the game, they are that slow, and that was me in red spec with a 2h! My sword and shield guard in blue line(tanking) did more dps than my red line (dps) captain. Captains start out great, then take a major dip in efficiency past level 100. Not to mention their pets suck, no really, they do barely any damage and are basically just there as a free heal every minute. Needs a buff in a major way.
Warden isn't that hard, its just memorization. Plus the gambits are just the same imputs over and over. So if gambit chain 1 is 12, second is 121, third is 1212, fourth is 12121. The exception is the light damage aoes they only stack evade rating not damage so you can start out with desolation/surety of death and everything just dies. So group enemies up, aoe dot them down.
Burglars are also a great class for new players. They have a unique playstyle, plus stealth is always fun for a first time playthrough. Plus plenty of cc, so you can take fights at your own pace and cc a bunch of stuff if you bite off more than you can chew.
Minstrel is also a great class, who doesn't like screaming at stuff and watching it die? Can easily nuke everything while levelling, and are the great healers at endgame so you have utility.
Brawler throws jugs of beer at enemies and punches things. Make it a female hobbit for the lolz and you wont regret it in the slightest.
100% correct on LoreMaster. You would think the pets would auto aggro stuff and have an aggro table, but they dont so you pretty much have to wait 5 seconds before you do anything. Sadly, their pets become quite weak after level 100 as well, they need a buff.
RK. Such a great class. Lightning, fire or healing. Probably best pick for a player that wants variety. All specs are viable just different ways of playing. Fire is damage over time and induction, lightning has no inductions but more crit focused, quite enjoyable to play. 10/10 highly recommend.
Beorning. You. Get. To. Turn. Into. A. Freaking. Bear. Nuff said. Great healers, decent tanks, pretty meh dps though. Blue line is pretty much permabear form.
That said, my advice to new players is play all classes to level 50, and then pick one as a main you really like. We level really quickly these days and they removed all the deeds to get skill points which was a major hurdle.

Then I go to Angmar and my first class was Beorning. Fun class, took him to level 44 and got bored, so I started a LM. Took him to level 50. Very fun class, easy too and I know they will nerf because they always do, but I was able to own mourning wraiths and soloed every instance in the game until the very end when I had to rethink my build. I used a red LM for pretty much 1-50. It was easier once I got the spells right. Burn down bosses in 15 seconds and all of their minions. I went with fire with lightning that added fire DOTs and of course maxed ring of fire. Melt city. I did try blue line but hated it. I felt too squishy and had to hide behind my pet and watch him slowly whittle down the boss. Boring, especially when they respawn before you are done. So redline all the way.

There are other classes that have decent self heals too, but the classes I mentioned having self-heals and healing skills for others in your fellowship too.

@@CandysChannel I haven't played a Minstrel recently as the class had some major changes done in the last few months, however, when I played Minstrel it was okay with soloing. Definitely could be a bit challenging in the beginner levels, but once I was near level 40, I could quickly take down a level 45 guardian with no problems so they were very powerful in the higher levels. For downloading LOTRO, I recommend downloading it from the site. I tried it on Steam once and it was buggy for me. And the base game does have several free expansions now. You get Moria and Rohan for free. You won't have to worry about buying packs or expansions until Gondor which is basically level 100. There are ways to get around paying any actual money to play LOTRO, which I will have a video out about soon. I was F2P for over 6 years of playing the game and now they have so many rapid discount sales and keep making more expansions free the more they come out with so there's so I truly wouldn't stress about not getting enough content as a F2P.

FIrst of all, u dont need to learn a lot of skill combinations as a warden. U just need to learn how the class works, as for every other class. If u get how Gambits work, and they are pretty simple, it is very easy to play. If we go into mastering it and play it on the highest possible skilllevel, yes, it is one of the more difficult. Not as difficult as burglar but still difficult.
U just need to understand, that there are different gambit lines and the most important are all build the same way. fist-spear, fist shield, spear-fist, spear-shield --> it is all about 1-2 to 12345 and then there some other which u need to learn and remember, but not much. And if u put ur shortcuts in a special pattern u always use, u can just train ur muscle memory and u will always automatically do what u need to do. I started playing warden as my main class in 75 and I still play it and I can recommend it to really everyone who wants to be a spartan in middle earth xD

I would disagree with you on Lore master and on rune keeper and swap them around. Lore master is very powerful right now. Far more so then it ever has been, most mobs do not even make it to my lore master and bigger mobs the bear easily tanks. The Rune keeper on the other hand dies so easily, it's damage is not what it used to be. Not saying it is a bad class, as it can do good damage and it is currently the best healing class in the game, but solo leveling is ruff with it at the moment. Hunter is a good class if you only want to solo, by the time you get to end game there are so many classes that can DPS they are not in high demand for raids and such late in game. Classes that would be in high demand are Tank classes like guard or brawler, healing classes like RK or minstrel, and support classes like lore master or captain, and some of these are a blast to level up. Note that guard and captain are slower and better to level up with a friend, and other like Minstrel or Rune Keeper are not super sturdy and again best leveled with a friend, though all can be soloed in the end. Not saying don't plat a hunter just know that they are harder to get into raids, but not impossible. One other thing I would say about starting a new class in LOTRO, don't worry about how hard a class is stated to play, every class is very learnable and you get 1 or 2 skills at a time. Plenty of time to learn what they do, so even the more complex classes are not that hard to learn as long as you do not level skip. If you are new, do not level skip, you miss out on how to play your class, and will get over whelmed. The best part of this game is the journey not the destination.

I can understand avoiding warden and lore master for new players, but that was interesting about how some new players use captain as they are similar in mechanics "lore" to lore masters and require an understanding of some of the intermediate game mechanics (like trigger on enemey death) - also, champion was a nice underdog to mention here as everyone loves hunter xD

For "Guardians are slow": throw away that shield, use a 2h, and go red line.
In red line, guards are better in aoe than a red champion, and better in single target than yellow champion. Not that specialised, but much more flexible, and you don't need 5 aoe skills to kill mobs, you can do that with your 3 skills. I usually pull 5-10 mobs, and blow them down on the 2-3. aoe skill.
It's 2023, not 2007, if you say that "guardians are slow" you don't understand this game well.

Им реально очень легко играть, как раз в самом начале, и можно легко освоиться в игре. Ну и это очень весело, все эти музыкальные эффекты) Насколько я помню. (давно не играл. Your lore-master comments seem to be straight out of 2007. I rarely use more than 2-3 spells per mob, while one-shotting regularly with Lightning Strike in landscape. You get incredibly strong ultimate skills like Nature's Fury that can take down even elite bosses in seconds. In contrary to your statement the pet does nothing in terms of damage even in blue line builds; pets are solely used for tanking, buffing and debuffing nowadays. Finally, you have a ton of cc skills and great self-healing to increase survivability. The lore-master might take some more time to master than hunter or champion, but it is no rocket science anyway and miles from the warden in terms of complexity. So anyone who likes the class fantasy should absolutely try one out, even as the first char.

LOL literally NO class is difficult in lotro solo play. LM solo leveling was maybe hard 10years + ago. LM is hard to play or master in group cause you can do a lot beside a bit of debuffing. Would agree to the warden otherwise if someone never played lotro he could start and learn this different skill type too. And agree ofc to the other recommended classes since those are pretty faceroll style this days. Whereas champion was hard in old days since so many physical attacks missed (incl. evade and parry). But yeah pretty easy and solid now.

I don't know why you would say the Warden is hard..yeah it needs some training to get used to it but by level 20-30 you should be really able to understand the gambit system nicely..and one you get mastery skills you can prepare before attacking a foe and start the battle with your most damaging skill(like Surety of death) and it almost instantly wins you a battle.

Imo the Warden is the most fun you can have in LotRO and the class is not as hard to figure out as folks make it look like.
For example ranged Warden is the easiest way to solo high tier delvings imo.
Travel skills, forced march and easy aoe rotation on landscape trash mobs make it an easy class for questing.
I'm sad that I listened to those "super hard" rumors all those years ago and only picked up the Warden after 8 years.
Now I play 4 Wardens on several levels and only pick anything else if needed.
--> If you know a decent Warden player who agrees to teach you the ways, go ahead - no regret.
Only downside is that it's hard to tell yet how much fun Wardens will be after the rework.
