Really appreciate all the folks offering solutions to my predicament here, but since I'm repeating myself a bunch, I wanted to clarify a few things, especially so I don't seem as argumentative as I'm starting to feel I might be. Replacing my NX30 with another Samsung is a terrible solution to my problem. Maybe the worst idea ever fronted in the history of bad ideas, second only to entering a ground war in Russia in winter. Samsung's camera system is dead. No life. I will need to replace it at some point anyway, so getting another Samsung only moves the inevitable change a short period down the road. I HAVE to change at some point anyway. So why not buy a used camera and buy myself some extra time? I make a good chunk of my living on production work in general, and RUclips specifically. I don't do this "just for funsies", and I don't have an unlimited budget to just throw at placeholder equipment. I made an EXTREMELY POOR choice in supporting Samsung. I don't want to throw good money after bad in continuing that mistake. It really doesn't make sense to spend money on a used NX1. NOT. AT. ALL. Best price I can find for a used NX1 is just under $1000. No idea what condition it's in. No Warranty. All gamble for me. For less than the price of a used NX1 I can buy a new Panasonic G85. The NX1 has slightly better low light capabilities (I shoot in a studio with lights), but the G85 has a far more usable flip out LCD and cheaper accessories for batteries, DC adapters, chargers, etc. If I'm spending that much cash, I could start the process of transitioning to Micro 4/3rds now, with a proper new product, a warranty, I can do business with a company providing active support, with parts available, and on a system with a growing selection of lenses. If it's prohibitively expensive to repair my NX30. I'm not buying a used Samsung. I will be using my funds to start investing in a better (and alive) platform. Also for folks asking, unfortunately there are no adapters for NX lenses. The glass would be a good fit for the M43 sensor, but Samsung's focus by wire system makes it highly unlikely that anyone will make an electronic adapter for other platforms. Just no money in supporting such a small user base with a product which would likely be expensive to produce. Again, I appreciate the assistance (at least from the folks actually trying to help, and who aren't throwing attitude around), and I'll be keeping this channel updated with what I end up deciding on as a course of action.
You're not wrong, but putting off the transition means what little value these lenses might have will erode even more. Still hoping the NX30 can be fixed, but if it can't, I have zero interest in prolonging the inevitable by buying more Samsung gear.
M43 is great. Hope you all the luck this time. I have a request if you don't mind. I just never seem to find any good comparison of RAW (DNG) images from various smartphone cameras. It would be interesting to see how all these sensors compare without image processing. After that comparison, as a bonus, you can include side-by-side (before and after) comparisons of RAW and processed images from the same phone. It would be a nice change from all the other videos online.
I don't know much about videos, but.. I watch your channel on my smartphone, so what really concerns me is the voice quality as i don't really go above 720p. Using a mic would help always.
And then what happens when I need to buy my next camera in a couple years and the lenses I have now are worth even less? Why throw ANY more cash at a dead system? The cost of a USED (gross) NX1 is already more than a NEW (pretty) G85 for the same features, a better flip out LCD, and a system which is currently being supported by Panasonic and Olympus (plus others).
I understand your concern. What I'm suggesting is damage control. If your current setup is doing fine, why not expand its lifetime to the very end? You won't be getting any significantly better video than the NX1 (or even a used NX500) with any similar APS-C camera body anytime soon, and 4K is all you need for years to come. Do the math and see what makes more sense to you. The lenses you currently have are already a hard sell. My suggestion? This is NOT a good time to get a good 4K APS-C camera (and I know you're smart enough not to even consider Sony or Fuji, both aren't worth the hassle for video). I believe it'll be much cheaper and more practical to just buy a used NX1, or even a used NX500 cheap. Save up over the course of 2-3 years, then get yourself invested in a more sustainable system. You'll never know, maybe the Canon 90D (80D's successor) in a couple of years will have 4K, or maybe Sony will finally release a reliable APS-C body that won't overheat and break down on you 2-3 times a day. There's also M43, if you're OK with their low-light...
What makes me nervous, getting a used camera is NO guarantee I'd get the 2-3 years out of it. No idea what condition it's in. No warranty, and no chance for more lenses I might need in the future, like a good macro, or a better zoom. I actually make a good chunk of my living on this, so it's not a "just for funsies" situation I can throw a couple grand at with no support options. If my NX30 is prohibitively expensive to fix, there's no way in hell I'm throwing any more cash at NX gear.
It's your call at the end of the day. I'm not trying to get you to stick to a dying system. As a tip for any used camera body though, you actually can tell if one used body would last you more than another, and that's through shutter count. Just like the mileage on your car, the shutter count gives you a rough estimate at how much it was used. Subtract that from the total shutter count the camera is designed for, and you get a rough estimate at how long a used body should last you after you factor in your personal experience of how reliable that system is. This applies to every make.
Aw Snap I know about shutter activation count. I've been shooting for twenty years. Shutter count can tell you roughly the "mileage", but was that city mileage, off road, highway, destruction derby? Doesn't really tell you how it's been handled or if there were any other issues or service. Most likely it would be fine, but given the failure my camera experienced, what guarantee would I have another wouldn't fail the same way, taking up more time and money to fix or find another replacement. Again, I wouldn't have a warranty to fall back on. Shutter activations also tell you little about sensor use through video, where that sensor is often run really hot. Like buying a car with low miles but for some reason, the owner liked to keep the car in park and running the engine high RPM for hours a day.
If you can afford it, go with the FUji X system. It's really great with vintage lenses, too, which can really change your entire shooting style and results to be really unique (in a good way)
It's crazy, the Samsung NX1 was probably a little too advance for it's time. I happened to have one fall into my possession for cheap and I have a hard time believing it came out 3-4 years ago
I own a Samsung NX Mini so I feel you here a little bit. Of course that's a small fraction of what you spent and mine still thankfully works, but I'm also bummed that there's no more support.
That is a huge bummer about your system. I have been out of the SLR/DSLR For about 5 years when my body took a dump on me and didn't have the cash for a new one, we just used our phones to cover the gap and fell into "Well it is convenient and I always have a camera with me" trap. I have Nikon glass and started looking again at bodies. I had mentioned to the sales guy that I had "Grown up" with an old Olympus OM 1 (film) body in my hands and had never found anything I was ever as comfortable with. And THAT is when I was introduced to the M4/3 platform. I am thinking that is the way I want to go now. I am looking forward to seeing what you shoot with it (mostly from the video side). I have found a ton of good info on the photo side but not the video side of M4/3. My kids are at the age where sports are ruling and I can't really capture their events with a cell phone, and a really old windows phone at that! The only reason I am not jumping on board with the M4/3 is all the Nikon glass I have. I like that the M4/3 glass is pretty much interchangeable between body manufacturers. I LOVE that I can fit a full photo kit in a WAY smaller bag too! Being one that is into emergency preparedness I am looking forward to what you will be producing on that subject.
I really wish I had kept my Canon glass. Looking at M43, adapters aren't a terrible solution, though they do make the cameras a bit front heavy. If you've got some nice lenses, maybe price out an electronic adapter?
I have been looking at those but I am tempted to sell all my old glass and go all in on M43. What body(s) are you leaning toward? I am about half and half photo to video so I am sort of torn.
I get that! You should make a video about your decision to go M43 and how you landed on Panasonic vs Olympus or any other M4/3. I don't find many good (up to date) "comparisons" between the M4/3 brands here on YT.
Samsung tried to be a major player during the dawn of mirrorless camera market. Samsung was actually the first to introduce a mirrorless autofocus with interchangeable lenses camera in 2010 a few months before Sony. Sony had the heritage of Minolta Konica lenses but Samsung didn't and with serious photographers the lens is the king and much more important than camera body. Except the NX1 all other cameras weren't something very Impressive. The Samsung NX1 of 2014 was very innovative and superior in many aspects than Sony, Fujifilm, Fujifilm APS-C mirrorless cameras but its price was very high and the price of the very good 16-50mm f/2.0-2.8 "S" lens from very high too.
Sorry I don't have a solution to offer but I can feel your pain. Sorry for the Issue with your Samsung body, that really sucks when you have gone "all in" and get left "holding the bag" so to speak.
That SUCKS.... I hope that doesn't happen to Me anytime soon. As I own the NX300m. It is already extremely hard to find lenses and accessories, damage to my primary camera would be devastating. I've already invested so much into this Closed system. What will you be doing with the left over glass?? Care to share them?? 😊
Baby that gear. Repairs aren't TOO bad currently, but I'd honestly start saving to replace the whole kit if/when it's time for you to move on. I'll probably throw my remaining lenses on ebay or something. Such a pain in the neck...
So sorry that your NX30 is dead. I'm a Samsung NX user as well, rocking the NX500. I'm still trying to figure out what I should do, since for the moment I really love the NX500, it's the perfect camera for me in terms of size, image quality and price. But I know one day my NX500 would be dead, eventually. I only have 2 NX lenses (16-50 kit and 30mm) and several Samyang lenses with NX mount. I'm now trying to find NX-Sony NEX adapter or NX-Fuji adapter so at least I can use my Samyang manual lenses without having to sell them to get the NEX or Fuji mount, if I decide to get a Fuji or Sony camera to replace my NX500 . Btw, the Panasonic G85 footage is looking really good.
I'm using my Samsung nx500 daily and can't find any new lenses for it. I use the 30mm prime, which works perfect but other focal lengths would be nice. So if you can't get your old Samsung repaired, I wouldn't mind giving them a new home :)
Juan, S6 or Honor 8 for video? Which is better for macro and general landscape shots? I'm going to get an X Cam Sight 2 2-axis gimbal and a tripod to stabilise so the Honor 8's lack of OIS wouldn't be a problem? Thanks, love your camera reviews.
Awwwe dude! sorry to hear bout that man, Micro 4/3 is probably the way to go, since it's pretty much universal to mount any lens you want on it. You could just bite the bullet and go for a GH5 or even the GH4, it's still a great camera! Get an adapter for EOS or Nikkor lenses and tada! I tried to find some nx to 4/3 adapters, none! those NX lenses are pretty much stuck on Samsung. So sell em on kijiji and put it towards a new cam. You're probably holding onto many phones, you could let a few of those go to pay for a new cam ;)
Well there is an option, if you don't use it.. why keep it!? lol!.....right!? :P But I didn't know about the review hardware issue..hmm.. I mean do you have a G4? or an S5/6 laying around? I mean past a certain point no one could blame you for keeping up with the times ya know? Especially since you're bouncing between so many phones, old ones kinda drift off. I say keep any last generation phone and that's it, cuz when will you ever go back to the G4? :P or how many other phones do you own? plus if you're using the money to help you continue doing what you do best then.. ya know? We all know you guys are basically doing this for free, or for very little money so.. keep that in mind. You're providing great FREE content, I wouldn't blame you for keeping the trains running...
As some have said, try adapters for your lenses. If none exist, a good machine shop could be of help, but you would have to do some diy engineering (I am guessing that the length the glass is versus the sensor is important)
I really do not know a lot about cameras, but I hope you find a replacement soon. It is always sad/annoying to have these kinds of decisions backfire. Still I am curious what it would take to make a different body and the focus system "talk" between each other. Hopefully you can invest on your new equipment soon, I really love your videos specially the in depth audio reviews! PS. I hate having non functional hardware, will you buy a replacement samsung body (used or otherwise) just to keep the system functional or maybe moving on means saying goodbye to your lenses ASAP? Cheers!
José Morales I'm looking into repairing the camera, but if it's too pricey, I'm not spending any more money on Samsung. I'll be bouncing it all to eBay fast.
You're speaking good truths here about the predicament many ppl find themselves in who jumped on the nx bandwagon. It sounds like your mind is already made up to transition to m43. That sounds like a good bet for your purposes. I'd still possibly consider buying a lightly used nx500 with the flip up screen and 4k if I had a few nx lenses on hand. The nx500 has no mic jack but good onboard stereo mic. It's a very underrated camera. Your rationale to go ahead and migrate systems is totally fine tho. If dynamic tracking autofocus isn't a priority for you like it is on say a gimbal-mounted cam for example, then go ahead and make the switch to m43.
Buy the nx300 image sensor on eBay for 90$. It's exactly the same sensor with the same connections as the one in the nx30. Same camera but different body.
Hey Juan, sorry to hear about the sammy, when I first found your channel you had exceptional video quality back then. But I agree, time to move on to something better. Although I know your concerns about getting something like an NX500, you also have to consider your expertise in the existing system. Anyway, the G85 is solid... the G7 is ever better considering you can get it for $600 + gift certificates. The video quality is the same except you don't get stabilization which you only need if you do a lot of hand held shooting with the camera instead of something else like a GoPro or phone.
You don't have to: you can buy any compatible second-hand NX -series body for peanuts today: an NX300 body for under €150 or an NX500 for twice that. Or an NX1 for somewhat more... Second-hand only, unfortunately... I have issues with second-hand equipment (what if the camera or lenses have been placed on the dirty floor by the previous owner? What if he had a squalid habit of picking his nose? Or wiped himself post-stool, then touched the camera without washing hands first? Or touched his willy, then touched the camera? If the item I am buying second-hand had been exposed to any of theaforementioned situations and I had a way of knowing it, I'd never buy one. If the former owner had My etiquette, I'd buy one. If the former owner was a woman, I'd have no qualms about buying one: the natural lack of physical aversion to a woman's body, including private parts, helps greatly. That said, the women in My life, save for My mother, manage uncannily to give Me headaches by failing to differente between the table (supposed to be clean) and the floor (immutably dirty, even if disinfected and looking clean). Or touch the dog food (meat, howsoever processed!), then touch the fridge! Or touch Me after caressing the dog: it is beyond Me that anyone could have no qualms about cleanliness thee way I do). That said, the temptation to acquire an NX 500 was so strong, I bit the bullet hoping the seller shared My norms of etiquette).
Feel ya... Got 4000$ of Samsung NX gear (NX1, battery grip, 16-50S, 50-150S, 2 pancakes) and I use it every week for my job. Started to put money in a saving account for when I will need to move from NX system when my stuff breaks.
JuanBagnell well, I won't make the jump until mine breaks. It's still a top tier option for the kind of work I do. The only advantages of the newer aps-c or m4/3 camera anounced this year is the sensor stabilisation that is being more and more of a common feature. If I had to switch this yeah, I would go for the Olympus E-M1 Mark II.
G85 is great! On board mics aren't the best, but lots of great options for audio with it. And then... GH5 doe. Ha. But I have quite enjoyed Micro Four Thirds. Hope you can find some options with adapters, or a way to sell them! Bummed to hear the sensor cracked though.
+Joel Heslop I've been looking into it. Samsung's focus by wire system makes adapters highly unlikely. Maybe just eBay all this junk. Blergh. So far the 85 has been impressing. Gotta get a fast prime for it.
+JuanBagnell Correction; there are two manufacturers that use the Micro 4/3rds mount ~ Panasonic and Olympus. (The original 4/3rds mount was Kodak and Olympus) But, I am sure that the Micro 4/3rds mount is here to stay. So sure that I have been investing in it for a few years now. Btw, did you look for for an Adapter for your Samsung lenses? Very Nice Videos Juan!
The Panasonic you're using is surprisingly great, also the audio quality is surprisingly great. I think you should go towards Panasonic, as those seem like the ones focusing on video, also they aren't as pricey as the top tier canon lines.
Sad indeed! Same here, feel disappointed, like Samsung betrayed me. With the camera but with the absence of Samsung pay after buying their watch and S7 edge. But what can we do?
Cool watching your channel. Miss the good old windows phone videos! OK. Solution (though it pains me to agree). Get a Sony mirrorless camera. I currently own a Canon 5d mark 4 (expensive toy) so not biased. For what you do they are the way to go. Their top cameras are whipping canon and nikon with their video quality. I also own a cheapo Sony a 5100 that though only 1080p (beginner mirror) is simply amazing
IF YOU DESTROYED THE SAMSUNG CAMERA... YOU CAN USE LENSES IN ANOTHER CAMERA. IF THIS ISN'T A SAMSUNG NX, JUST NEED TO BUY AN ADAPTER FOR AROUND 15 DOLLARS.
yrubretaw OF COURSE. JUST LOOK WHAT MOUNT HAVE THAT CANON AND BUY AN ADAPTER OF SAMSUNG NX TO THAT CANON MOUNT IF THAT IS EF OR ANOTHER. NOW I'M USING A GREAT MINOLTA LENS OF 1970'S IN MY NX30 AND WITH AN ADAPTER WORKS GREAT.
Nice cool review, so sorry this great camera has ceased production. Do you know if the Samsung NX lenses work on Pentax K-mount cameras. I have a Pentax K-1. Reply
Sadly I made the exact same mistake as you. My Nx30 microphone jack got fried last year and I soldiered through only to have the sensor get a hairline crack that causes video to flicker every few seconds. It still works fine for photos but is useless for video. B&H and Adorama has a great deal now where you get the 85 and a kit lens that's kinda blah but the system at least has some good and reasonably priced lenses. (i have the 42mm prime and am love it). Also look into Olympus lenses. The 85 is one of the few Panasonic bodies that puts AF in the body and not the lens, so most Olympus 4/3 lenses should work fine in it. If you find a good deal on a pancake Olympus, grab it. Good luck.
Andrew Kameka good to know! didn't know that about AF. Like the issues I used to have with some Nikon bodies and not having AF for all lenses. The 85 is becoming a safer bet by the day...
i am an old samsung user recently got nx500 for new play. Maybe you could sell old nx lenses on Ebay? i would love that. you could make more than 1k with it
My NX 30 died for the 2nd time!!!!! The first time it died I was able to get it fixed under the warranty, but now I am screwed!!! I should have gone with Sony products from the start. I guess I'm gonna leave Samsung products alone from now on.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I hear ya. It may be a dead system but I'm perfectly fine with a perfectly working NX-1 body and that 16-50. I shoot mainly with Pentax (some would argue that that's a nearly dead system) and Fuji X-Mount cameras so I wouldn't be constantly pouring money into the NX system except for that initial 2nd hand purchase. As long as it works fine and I can find OEM batteries, I'll be all right.
I did the same mod to an nx100. I just uploaded a few images to my channel that I shot with it. Have a look if you want. It's not for everyone, but I'm fascinated with it.
Sad to hear that I have never seen a RUclipsr a Samsung camera but actually the footage look good coming from It but I think If you want a flip screen go with the GH4or the GH5 If you can afford It they have a good selection of lenses ........................ but actually I am surprised that the last pocketnow videos are shot with the LG V20 I didn't,t notice a difference phones have really come a long way and I think you can continue shooting with the phones you have and you won,t have much problems
by the way I want to ask you how the v20aged over extended use with you and how everything is performing because my phone screen has turned off suddenly and i was having many problems with it and I consider upgrading and I have set on three phones the honor 8 and the s7 edge and the v20 and I am leaning more to the honor 8 because it is 350$ but also the s7 edge is 550$ and the v20is 530$ in my country and I consider the most Important thing in a phone for me is the camera and the performance and I prefer phablets but I have no problem with the small device so the size is not a big problem for me so do you think it is worth the 200$ extra ..................... please tell me your openion
Why not just upgrade to an NX1? What happened to your camera can happen to any other camera system (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panny). And sure, there is the argument that those Big 4, you will always have access to lenses, accessories, extra bodies, new bodies, etc. But, keep in mind that the NX1 also has a committed community of photo geeks, one of whom has already designed and sold a speedbooster to transform the NX1 closer to a Full Frame as far as crop factor (1.1x). Moreover, this individual is currently engineering a "smart adapter" that would allow NX1 owners to have aperture, focus, and exposure controls of ANY Canon-compatible EF-S lenses, including the Sigma Art line. Then you have the hack improvements, which get the bit rate up close to 200 mbps in h.254 (equal to 400 mbps in h.264), and another hack to allow you to record close to 80 mins of uninterrupted footage without overheating. Just sayin'! I've owned Canon and Nikon digital cameras, Nikon film cameras and Mamiya RZ Pro 2 medium format, as well as Sony and Panasonic HDV video cameras in the past. In other words, if you're a true adventurer when it comes to obtaining the optimal performance in both emerging photo and video technologies, you are more than likely going to completely overhaul your existing system for a new one in the not too distant future. That's a fact for many people in this hobby/profession!
Hey Juan, not sure if you have a way to get a good deal on the next camera but if not I can be of some help. All straight from Best Buy. Nothing shady. Details are short. Just lemme know.
JuanBagnell please do, the least I can do is give you prices for whatever you're interested in and hope it's less expensive. Keep me posted! Love your work.
Nice G85. I hope I don't have the same happen to my a6000, although Sony seems to be really dedicated to their camera line, so perhaps the a6500 may be my upgrade path or its successor. Though I hope that happens really later rather than sooner. I love the a6000 a lot.
JuanBagnell Seems so as they recently launched a new SLT camera. I don't think Sony's been focusing too much on their SLTs, as they seem to be really dedicated to their mirrorless lineup
This is kinda funny. You went from one dead system to a sensor size that would be dead too. Don’t give into hype. Go full frame or APSC. Otherwise just use your phone’s camera lol.
Panasonic is DEFINITELY what you'll want for your video needs. Sony's S-log3 is nice. But Panasonic's more compact models are overall better for video than Sony's equivalent.
Well, if you can't fix the Samsung camera and all those lenses left being unusable, maybe you can sell them or give-away them. I am sure there are people out there that still have this kind of camera. :) I personally have the Panasonic one you have now (that you showed in the video), but some other folks out there might have the Samsung one but no lenses. I mean, its just a suggestion. :)
hey bro.. im a big fan or yours.. my suggestion is to buy a sony mirrorless camera like sony a7s or a7rii or a6500. since u got the option to use ur samsung lenses on them with a cheap adapter.. cheers.😊
+Venu bhargav parvathaneni I don't think there are any NX adapters for other cameras. Especially since Samsung was aps-c only, I don't think the lenses would work on an A7.
JuanBagnell. i think u can do a crop sensor on a7rii and also sony a7 ii..u can either shoot on full frame or super 35 mode.. and if ur looking for a crop sensor u could chose a6300 or a 6500 .
+Venu bhargav parvathaneni right but that still doesn't change the fact that Samsung's focus by wire is likely incompatible with any adapters that might work on a Next.
I like the quality, but I'm not a huge fan of Sony software, and I'd need to spend even more on some accessories like monitors. I kinda need a good flip out LCD. Jaime uses the 6300 and watching him shoot at trade shows is kinda miserable.
I'm sorry Juan. I hope you can find a very good camera you can enjoy for years and like you said, don't let this incident affect your review of the new Samsung phones!!!! 😂😂
This is what happens when you trust a consumer electronics company with your photographic needs. When it's not convenient they leave you high and dry. That is why you should stick with the traditional camera companies. But you tubers and" influencers" can never be happy with Canon and Nikon or Fujifilm that have been around for years and they push the viewers to go for trends and other camera companies which can treat them in the long term just like Samsung.
+Marieta Tsoukoukou you're not wrong with photography, but let's not ignore the fact that Canon (the company which invented DSLR video) has an absolute shit strategy for video now.
You are absolutely right! My comment was based primarily on photography and you tubers have different needs. But why don't you guys go for the dedicated camera gear for cinematographers? Wouldn't this be more appropriate for your needs? Or is it limiting due to the prices of this gear? Anyway though, the point is that I'd be pissed as hell if I bought gear from any company and did this to me. Gear is expensive and this is not the right way to treat their customers.
JuanBagnell Oh Im sorry to hear that :( you're going to get free soon, hopefully! I'm glad to hear you're good with PN. I love their content, but without you they would be pretty dull.
i have 85mm f1.4 and macro 60mm f2.8 and 30mm f2 = i m waiting samsung make an adapter for them :( here in saudi arabia there is no samsung camera any more even in used market ! Actually samsung was not popular i made huge mistake i see why people buy nikon and canon regardless their rivals having better features
Technically you ALREADY spent the money on the lenses... the options are now to either sell the lenses, or find another body/fix the one you have to keep using the lenses you ALREADY own... That's not the same as buying into a dead system, it's more of extending the life of a system with no upgrade path past 4K.
Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe. If I have a thousand now, what's a smarter buy longer term. Spend more on a dead system AND THEN be stuck with yet another camera body, no new lenses, no resale value, and a dead end? OR make the transition now while I could still get a little cash for the glass and buy into a system with actual life. Any dime I spend on Samsung now is wasted as far as I'm concerned.
True.... like another user said he was looking for lenses for his Samsung so for people with the NX1 and others there is a market for your lenses. Get out now while there is still a market for them.
JuanBagnell You may get one cheap, and have another year with a camera system you seem to really enjoy and a year of putting money aside to invest in some, yet to be announced, future tech. What ever you decide just keep producing!
Why throw away more money on a dead system? When THAT camera dies, I'll be left in the same problem, the lenses will be worth even less, almost no resale value, and I'll still need to replace everything. Any dime spent on samsung now is wasted as far as I'm concerned.
JuanBagnell Best of luck to you with whatever direction you go from here. I'll still watch and enjoy your videos if you end up filming them with The Potato 🥔. But do consider splurging for The Yam.
You could give Sony a look? They're going strong with the A6xxx series. The A6500 looks specially enticing to me.
Jaime shoots on the A6300. I might try one out, and then we'd both be on the same system, but (and this is silly) I really want a flip out LCD.
Aw Snap that's something I've been wanting to do for a while. maybe make a little showdown after we get a GS8.
first Pebble, now Samsung...Poor Juan. You're cursed man.
Gerard W. Next up, those Kangol Tropic Ventairs
+Chamf NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
@Juan- by any chance were you a Windows phone lover :P
Prashant Badrinath sigh... Yeah... Yeah I was...
I guess, I am In the same boat as you. ;)
G85 is a really solid camera. I use the G7 and it has been performing great
I've been impressed so far. Really wish I could have gotten 2160/60p, but not for another thousand dollars.
I don't know much about videos, but.. I watch your channel on my smartphone, so what really concerns me is the voice quality as i don't really go above 720p. Using a mic would help always.
Better mic would improve the quality more. It is possible to use usb mics with android, for example samson meteor works fine.
I mean lets be real, what makes you think I'd stick with on camera mics long term?
;-)
JuanBagnell that's the point.. This camera or that... What brought me here is the quality reviews that you make.
Hopefully this will soon mean my reviews will take a small step in quality :-)
Get a used NX1? What's the big deal? It's going to much cheaper than migrating to any new camera system, since you invested in all that glass...
It's really great with vintage lenses, too, which can really change your entire shooting style and results to be really unique (in a good way)
Clacking Computer those Fuji's look awesome.
Video looks great.. audio for an onboard mic is actually quite good. Most dslr's suck for onboard mics... This G85 works in a pinch. Not too shabby.
Actually not terrible, but from here on I'll be going back to my Lav :-)
It's crazy, the Samsung NX1 was probably a little too advance for it's time. I happened to have one fall into my possession for cheap and I have a hard time believing it came out 3-4 years ago
No joke. It was such a great system. The lenses we're kind of a pain, but Samsung was well ahead of the curve.
Just viewing your video now in 2019. So, did you find a repair shop who could repair Samsung cameras?
I own a Samsung NX Mini so I feel you here a little bit. Of course that's a small fraction of what you spent and mine still thankfully works, but I'm also bummed that there's no more support.
+The Technoclast how yours lasts longer than mine did. 🙂
***** I want the gh5, but budget is pushing me to the g85.
Canon walked away from me also. My camera broke out of the blue and they refused to replace it. Never buying one again. Nikon is my new brand.
REALLY curious to see nikon mirrorless...
Sorry I don't have a solution to offer but I can feel your pain. Sorry for the Issue with your Samsung body, that really sucks when you have gone "all in" and get left "holding the bag" so to speak.
Yup. Sad day. Time to change though.
u could use a lens adapter to still use your old Samsung lenses on any other camera you might purchase....
+Brenden Pragasam not on Samsung lenses. No adapters.
JuanBagnell what are your remaining lens?
+Brandon Simpson 45, 16, and 50-200
Ok I see that you have reviews on them all. I'll watch them now. I am interested.
Once I get a quote on the repair, if it's too expensive, I'll be putting the whole lot on ebay.
That's sad. :(
Maybe get a Sony.
Only problem is heating issues I think.
Idon't own one, but I have seen many RUclipsrs using it.
+Usup Pariid I really want to have a flip out LCD though. I think Panasonic is gonna be the way to go.
Awwwe dude! sorry to hear bout that man, Micro 4/3 is probably the way to go, since it's pretty much universal to mount any lens you want on it.
+Kyle Ruggles LOL I should start flipping more gear, but it's really frowned on to sell review hardware.
+Kyle Ruggles I have phones and devices going back to Sony Clies.
As some have said, try adapters for your lenses. If none exist, a good machine shop could be of help, but you would have to do some diy engineering (I am guessing that the length the glass is versus the sensor is important)
The length isn't the issue. Samsung's focus by wire system is the barrier.
Alex Moss naw I shoot pretty static. I already grabbed the G85. really happy with it.
Maybe you could give me your samsung lenses cause I have a samsung nx30 with kit lens only. Been using it a year and still working good. 😊😊😊
The video quality is the same except you don't get stabilization which you only need if you do a lot of hand held shooting with the camera instead of something else like a GoPro or phone.
so sorry to hear that. I have a NX300m, let a brother if you are trying to sell some NX lenses though.
I should find out next week if my nx30 is repairable.
That said, the temptation to acquire an NX 500 was so strong, I bit the bullet hoping the seller shared My norms of etiquette).
do more rants man.
it humanises you.
+Troy Nguyen I do worry that my alienness shows through too often... I mean I am a human. Yup. Not an alien.
Feel ya... Got 4000$ of Samsung NX gear (NX1, battery grip, 16-50S, 50-150S, 2 pancakes) and I use it every week for my job. Started to put money in a saving account for when I will need to move from NX system when my stuff breaks.
+Julien Royal ugh that's a tough transition too. How it goes smooth for you
JuanBagnell well, I won't make the jump until mine breaks. It's still a top tier option for the kind of work I do. The only advantages of the newer aps-c or m4/3 camera anounced this year is the sensor stabilisation that is being more and more of a common feature.
If I had to switch this yeah, I would go for the Olympus E-M1 Mark II.
***** the oly looks like a killer option too. Feeling better about m43, being able to pick between a couple different body manufacturers.
Thanks! How long can it shoot video for a livestream? Does it need a dummy battery for blogging teaching context?
I was planning to purchase NX500 a few months ago. Then i got to know about the Canon 70D. I feel lucky that i didn't buy that cam.
+Sabeeh Saqib you dodged a bullet. Shame because the NX1 and 500 were great cameras.
JuanBagnell yeah, I shoot with a Rokinon 12mm f2 for my on camera shots and I love it. Super wide.
+Joel Heslop Rokinon! I need to look those up. How does the focus peaking handle a manual only lens?
Yes, I have this one: amzn.to/2oNwjHc
Focus peaking comes in clutch. Works great.
Good to know. Thanks bud.
My NX300 just went dead! Like no life which sucks. I just spent all my money on it and Samsung disappointed me.
+JOE PRETE samsung's fly by wire system makes an adapter if not impossible, at best prohibitively expensive.
The Panasonic you're using is surprisingly great, also the audio quality is surprisingly great. I think you should go towards Panasonic, as those seem like the ones focusing on video, also they aren't as pricey as the top tier canon lines.
I leaning that way for sure. Early impressions on this camera are really positive so far.
what reviews did you shoot with the V20 . I would like to see the full capability of the camera. thanks I got the V20 from your positive reviews.
+Dallas Parrott I linked one in the more info of this video, but check out our P10 plus review on Pocketnow. Only three shots were NOT from a V20.
Awesome Thanks! I love the V20!
Sad indeed! Same here, feel disappointed, like Samsung betrayed me. With the camera but with the absence of Samsung pay after buying their watch and S7 edge. But what can we do?
I think I cried a little when I saw that crack on the sensor.😢 But its great to see you sneaking in some V20 video in on us. Love this phone.
V20 is no joke. I use it a lot in reviews.
That sucks. Samsung seems to make nice things and then find some way to let you down.
I know you would've made you're decision by now as i am quite late, but first preference should be trying to repair it if its not too costly imo.
IF YOU DESTROYED THE SAMSUNG CAMERA... YOU CAN USE LENSES IN ANOTHER CAMERA. IF THIS ISN'T A SAMSUNG NX, JUST NEED TO BUY AN ADAPTER FOR AROUND 15 DOLLARS.
Wilson Eusebio777 can NX lenses work on canon with apsc sensor?
yrubretaw OF COURSE.
Get Sony bruhhh
Delzy TEch not a pocket friendly i assume.. Very expensive.
I'm with Delzy TEch get a sony. I have a sony a6000 and it takes great images.
Nice cool review, so sorry this great camera has ceased production. Do you know if the Samsung NX lenses work on Pentax K-mount cameras. I have a Pentax K-1.
Reply
Rick Mentore I don't think nx lenses work on any other platform because of the focus by wire system.
Maybe you could sell old nx lenses on Ebay? i would love that. you could make more than 1k with it
It's looking increasingly likely I will be selling the lenses on eBay. Should help me replace some of the glass on M/43rds.
My NX 30 died for the 2nd time!!!!! The first time it died I was able to get it fixed under the warranty, but now I am screwed!!! I should have gone with Sony products from the start. I guess I'm gonna leave Samsung products alone from now on.
So sorry to hear that. Such a shame that Samsung left us out to dry like this.
Looking for a deal on an NX-1 with the 16-50 2-2.8 even after watching this video!
It's still a great camera. I just couldnt keep pouring money into a dead format.
Take the broken filter out and use it as an infrared camera. It's an addictive alternative for landscape work.
+Eddie B oohh... That's a fun idea...
I did the same mod to an nx100. I just uploaded a few images to my channel that I shot with it. Have a look if you want. It's not for everyone, but I'm fascinated with it.
+Eddie B thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely check that out.
That V20 is no joke. I wouldn't have been able to do that as easily on ANY other phone camera.
by the way I want to ask you how the v20aged over extended use with you and how everything is performing because my phone screen has turned off suddenly and i was having many problems with it and I consider upgrading and I have set on three phones the honor 8 and the s7 edge and the v20 and I am leaning more to the honor 8 because it is 350$ but also the s7 edge is 550$ and the v20is 530$ in my country and I consider the most Important thing in a phone for me is the camera and the performance and I prefer phablets but I have no problem with the small device so the size is not a big problem for me so do you think it is worth the 200$ extra ..................... please tell me your openion
Sorry, meant h.265 codec.
Why spend more on a dead system?
Hey Juan, not sure if you have a way to get a good deal on the next camera but if not I can be of some help. All straight from Best Buy. Nothing shady. Details are short. Just lemme know.
I appreciate the heads up. If I get stuck I'll drop you a message. Much appreciated.
JuanBagnell please do, the least I can do is give you prices for whatever you're interested in and hope it's less expensive. Keep me posted! Love your work.
Sad too
Grab a sony, Juan. At least you will able to use adapters for everyother lenses. (or a panasonic)
How about adapters for the lenses?
No go. I looked.
Which videos to on Pocketnow's channel and which one goes on this channel?
What's that thing around your neck?
Really sad for you. Hope it's not too expensive to fix your camera.
Nice G85.
I hope I don't have the same happen to my a6000, although Sony seems to be really dedicated to their camera line, so perhaps the a6500 may be my upgrade path or its successor.
Though I hope that happens really later rather than sooner. I love the a6000 a lot.
I think there's WAY more life in Sony's system than there ever was in Samsung's system.
JuanBagnell Seems so as they recently launched a new SLT camera.
I don't think Sony's been focusing too much on their SLTs, as they seem to be really dedicated to their mirrorless lineup
I'm so sorry about you're lost I will like to support you by offering buying the 45mm for the Samsung nx sistem reply me back if you're intersted
This is kinda funny. You went from one dead system to a sensor size that would be dead too. Don’t give into hype. Go full frame or APSC. Otherwise just use your phone’s camera lol.
Juan you can't be the only youtube techie whos not using a Sony rx100 or alpha
+Sydell LOL I like being a rebel.
Picture quality is good, but the sound quality is subpar.
+Paolo Angelo Leonardo what camera has mics that really can compete with off camera audio?
Panasonic is DEFINITELY what you'll want for your video needs. Sony's S-log3 is nice. But Panasonic's more compact models are overall better for video than Sony's equivalent.
+Kyle Lopez-Vito the bang for buck here is pretty solid.
rest in peace valiant warrior 😢
Well, if you can't fix the Samsung camera and all those lenses left being unusable, maybe you can sell them or give-away them. I am sure there are people out there that still have this kind of camera. :) I personally have the Panasonic one you have now (that you showed in the video), but some other folks out there might have the Samsung one but no lenses. I mean, its just a suggestion. :)
Do u still have the lenses might be u can sell me one bc i still use the NX3000
Make a video about the repair vs replacement of your camera. .
If I get it repaired I will. I think it might be too expensive.
That's such a shame, $500 disposable. If the last 12 months has taught me anything on tech it's that Samsung is not our friend.
To be fair, NO company is a "friend" but sammy has definitely left me out in the cold here. What I get for being a fanboi...
hey bro.. im a big fan or yours.. my suggestion is to buy a sony mirrorless camera like sony a7s or a7rii or a6500. since u got the option to use ur samsung lenses on them with a cheap adapter..
+Venu bhargav parvathaneni right but that still doesn't change the fact that Samsung's focus by wire is likely incompatible with any adapters that might work on a Next.
a6300 great price now after a6500 came out
I like the quality, but I'm not a huge fan of Sony software, and I'd need to spend even more on some accessories like monitors. I kinda need a good flip out LCD. Jaime uses the 6300 and watching him shoot at trade shows is kinda miserable.
Are you selling those lenses? I’m interested in two💥
@JuanBagnell why don't you try Sony?
Don't go Sony. Sony is killing it. Sell your old lenses on your old on Amazon or buy a new bones converter
Lol moves to m4/3 then a few years later that format also looking shakey with Olympus now throwing in the towel.
I'll have lens choices for a lot longer. See that new Oly telephoto... Whew...
I'm sorry Juan. I hope you can find a very good camera you can enjoy for years and like you said, don't let this incident affect your review of the new Samsung phones!!!! 😂😂
Maria Elena Cabrera thanks Maria ☺️
Try fuji x-t20
Damn how does that crack show up without dropping the camera?! *shudders*
+fatproduce no idea. Never dropped it.
I hope you're not getting out of contract with pocketnow or they're done, honestly.
Oh no! I'm good with PN. It's THIS channel where I'm on a shitty MCN contract. And seriously FUCK shady MCN's.
JuanBagnell Oh Im sorry to hear that :( you're going to get free soon, hopefully! I'm glad to hear you're good with PN. I love their content, but without you they would be pretty dull.
i have 85mm f1.4 and macro 60mm f2.8 and 30mm f2 = i m waiting samsung make an adapter for them :(
here in saudi arabia there is no samsung camera any more even in used market ! Actually samsung was not popular
i made huge mistake i see why people buy nikon and canon regardless their rivals having better features
+madr nano it's very unfortunate. I don't believe Samsung can make an adapter the way the lens is designed.
why don't you buy some re-furb Samsung NX to use the lenses for some time more.
+Tiktok Toyatoya why keep spending money on a dead system?
Just for the lenses. I know how painfully expensive they are. But I didn't know that a used NX1 would put you down a grand.
Are you selling those lenses!!!??? Please?! I have the NX300!
Would PocketNow purchase a new kit for you to produce content?
+JuanBagnell just go second hand!
+Sami Cooper buy a second hand Samsung? why spend more money on a dead system tho?
JuanBagnell You may get one cheap, and have another year with a camera system you seem to really enjoy and a year of putting money aside to invest in some, yet to be announced, future tech. What ever you decide just keep producing!
Off-topic, what's that thing around your neck, Juan?
What about a Sony camera
Damnm 😧😥😨 Good Video!!!!!
+TCK Tech not too shabby right.
Sounds like maybe it's time to order that GH5. 😉
I was saving up for it, but I think I'll need something sooner. If I pull the trigger right now, a G85 won't break the bank.
Samsung and cameras is like Microsoft and Windows Phone/10 Mobile. Get on board Canon, Nikon or Sony. (Sorry, Pentaxians.)
What I wouldn't give for better video on a Pentax 645... Sigh...
Well if you don't want the lenses I'll be happy to take them off your hands....
I find out next week what a repair might cost. Keep an eye out. Might be throwing them on ebay soon...
get a used top of the line cam that's compatible with your lenses!
used ofc
its made by samsung the only compatible cameras are samsung only sadly, not same mounting system for the lenses
Yeah, he said a camera came out after his, so he could buy the latest one compatible!
Why throw away more money on a dead system? When THAT camera dies, I'll be left in the same problem, the lenses will be worth even less, almost no resale value, and I'll still need to replace everything. Any dime spent on samsung now is wasted as far as I'm concerned.
JuanBagnell oh i thought those lenses are already worthless! I thought that atleast you can use then instead of having their value evaporate!
Tragic
:-(
buy a used camera the same model
I moved over to Panasonic.
Hope my NX1 holds up.. :(
NX1 was built more ruggedly so I think it should last longer than my NX30.
selling the lens ?
Want to sell your lenses to me😂
Please give me your nx lens for gift my lens is broken NX 10
Ouch. 😢
Yup... :-(
JuanBagnell Best of luck to you with whatever direction you go from here. I'll still watch and enjoy your videos if you end up filming them with The Potato 🥔. But do consider splurging for The Yam.
Oh yeah. I'd CERTAINLY move up to a Yam.
:-D
