- Slow Cooker Refried Beans
-pound of pinto beans dry
-1/4th diced onion
-1/2 minced jalapeno
-4 ounce can of diced green chilies
-1 large garlic clove minced
-7 cups of water
-salt to taste (add towards the end of the cooking process)
Place all ingredients except the salt into the slow cooker. Cook on high 5-6 hours until the beans are cooked through, and season with salt to taste. Remove 1/2 of the beans and liquid to a blender; puree. Add pureed beans back to the slow cooker and stir. This recipe is zero WW Freestyle Smart Points, and they taste just like refried beans. Shelby
Yummy 😋 😋 😋
I have some pintos from New years day to use up. Think I'll make this with those.
Great vegan option
Thank you so much for sharing! This is going into our super bowl menu lineup!
Guilt free "refried" beans yum yum
Thanks Shelby! I am loving your WW videos!
Thank you, I'm trying to tweak my recipes so they are WW friendly and college boy approved. ahhahah Shelby
These look so good. I cook mine with chicken broth instead of water and use either a smoked salt pork or a ham bone. My mom did it this way and its always been a favorite. :)
Would you happen to have a Spanish rice recipe?
You make everything look soooo yummy! It's a gift lol
Awe Katie thank you
What a great recipe!! Thank you!
My pleasure Michelle. Kid friendly and WW too.
Wow, what great easy recipe this was! I'm trying this for sure!
Thanks Nancy
That tostada looks delicious!!! Love the idea of making the beans in the crock pot and blending half of them!!! Genius!!! Yes, to making small changes as they do add up!!! XOXO
I always made them the old fashioned way, but I'm loving the slow cooker way. Hugs Shelby
Another awesome WIUW!!!! Love this. TFS!!
The beans were awesome
excellent, it really is tricky to judge how much water to use with the beans.
It can be tricky to know how much water. I have only done the pinto beans, the 7 cups per pound has worked great. Hugs SHelby
Shelby, thank you for this recipe ! Love it !
My pleasure Sherry
I love your beans. Im going to make them, they look delicious.
They were yummy, so glad zero points on WW
Looks wonderful!
Thank you Donna
Love the tostado idea, I made turkey tacos with them and can't wait to try the refried beans, thanks!
Love Turkey Tacos 🌮 Hee Hee 😜 take care Shey
The turkey would be good too, zero points :D Shelby
That looks like a meal I could eat and enjoy, thanks.
Easy to cook too
That tostada looks delicious and so do the refried beans! Tfs. XOXO :)
Awe thank you, I was so happy to find a way to make it weight watcher friendly and still taste good. Hugs Shelby
Shelby! I love this recipe! My husband is vegan and this looks so simple for me to make and serve to him! I’m definitely throwing this is my meal plan for February! Thank you! 😁
It tasted very good and has good texture. I have made this way twice already. Hugs Shelby
Made these today. So good, were way thinner than expected but will adjust next time..thank you
Must be the So Calif connection, but we do cook alike,,,,I make this a lot because it's not common here in TN....have pintos in my canner now so I'll have ready to use jars to make refried - I heat and mash them up in a skillet with a little garlic and cumin too and make my own salsa too. Glad to hear it's WW friendly 😃
Linda I haven't canned this year at all, we have been so busy. I LOVE canning beans too. I lput a leaf or two of epazote in my pinto beans when I can them. Might be hard to find in TN?? Hugs Shelby
I looove tostadas, yum! Btw, you can get a "refried" taste by warming a cast iron pan until very hot and spreading a tablespoon of oil onto it, and adding the beans and juices carefully. Mash and cook down to desired consistency.
Hun She’s doing weight watchers She use to cook them that way all the time She’s loosing weight So the last thing she wants is the food to be high in points!! Doing it this way was a genius idea Has she came up with it on her own and it’s 0 points on the weight watchers points System..Just a FYI take care Shey
Sheywh12 Great job!
Jasmine I love that you are cooking in an iron skillet, they are the best pans ever! I like doing the beans like that too, but sadly I have a few pounds to shed at the moment hahahahah Ken is doing WW with me, he is 2 pounds to goal....what a Brat! hahahah Hugs Shelby
Awesome
Thank you Nancy
Love it. Bet they taste delicious. Yummy:)
Great tasting Pam
Hi Shelby - you did not soak the beans first, correct?
I just threw them in dry and they came out perfect
Yun this looks delicious and super easy! I bet some queso fresco on top of the tostada with beans would be soooo good!
No Queso when your loosing weight! Hee Hee
Sheywh12 mexican queso fresco is actually not that bad. The cheesy creamy queso Blanco is what's bad! 😂
I’ve never heard of a low-fat low sugar queso Is it homemade?? I would love the recipe??
Sheywh12 I buy it at our local Latin market, they sell it at the deli. But the brand "cacique" sells it prepackaged.
I bought some the last time Ken and I went to the Mexican market. I love the dry texture and the flavor too. Hugs Shelby
Were they spicy in the end ? Seems easy and I love it
Cat they were perfect.
