Tool is known for taking us out of our comfort zone with their music. It often takes quite a few listens to truly grasp everything that's going on. It happens with everyone. I love that you updated the commentary for this one. It's a reflection of how Tool is being Tool. Mad respect to you guys!

Appreciate this retake. Tool songs are so fluid in how we perceive them which is what makes them so great. My favorite changes all the time. Sometimes I have to remind myself that music is not a competition.

This is the one off the new album that hit me like a punch in the soul...maybe it’s because of where I am, in life, maybe because so many of the people I love are veterans, but the rest of the album had to grow on me. This song hit me from the jump, though.

Me too, Stephanie. I’m in my mid 40’s, and I use to be fearless and carefree. I yearn for that confidence...that inherent arrogance that comes with being a young man. Now, however, I have this baggage of doubt and regret. I feel...inconsequential. I love this song. More than any other Tool song, this one speaks to me..speaks to so many.

I have to admit, when the album came out I was having a really hard time liking it. I played a couple minutes of a song and it just wasn't clicking with me for some reason, maybe my expectations were getting in the way, maybe I was expecting something similar to their old stuff. I'm not sure.
But today I played this song in my car on my way home and it BLEW ME AWAY, it finally clicked with me and I've had this song on repeat ever since!! I think the rest of the album will hit me the same way. This new sound takes a minute to sink in

Tool gifted me a profound life lesson. I make music for a living, I spend every day of every week analysing music from artistic, scientific, mathematic perspectives. I grew up a big tool fan and still love them but this album came out and I was like "meh". It took a good 2 years to click. despite my hobby being my job, like many I had developed 'adhd' listing habits as a result of technology, every song available at the lick of a button through spotify etc. I was listening to this album whilst working, whilst gaming, whilst driving, it wasn't until I saw a reaction break down of 'The Pot' lyrics and realised I missed so much depth in their catalogue. so I gave Pneuma a proper shake, just me and the music, like my childhood when I got a new CD and I would just sit on the grass with a walkman and headphones and absorb it, and my god Pneuma took me on the full journey and I re-learned what a spiritual pleasure it is to actively listen to music again. Thankyou Tool.

This commentary was great because you mentioned feeling comfortable after several listens. I think that's why I found it hard you didn't really like it. Because I've already become comfortable with it,so I thought you should feel the same way. I also feel like people are expecting this new Tool album to be such a masterpiece since it's been so long that listening to it may be a let down. I try and remember that the artists whomever it may be aren't writing music for me but for themselves.

Guess I'm finding myself in the minority. Been a fan since the birth of Opiate when I was a teenager and they have never EVER disappointed me. I realized a long time ago that each and every single song will undoubtedly spend it's time as my favorite. In this manner I will have a spiritual reawakening four or five times over with each album. Lastly I also learned to take Tool with no preconceptions because each album had been different than the one before. Thus, I've thought Fear Inoculum to be a masterpiece from the start.

Have you considered doing a review later for songs that you ended up feeling very differently about after you initial reaction? Essentially what you did here but just labeled "review" so we know that something had changed from you initial reaction video. Tool is an excellent band for this because I think it is amazing personally how my opinions have changed for this band in particular. As a fan since 1993 I actually thought 10,000 days was their weakest album for years because I enjoyed their shorter more aggressive earlier stuff so much. When this new album was released it changed everything for me regarding Tool and now 10,000 days is one of my favorite albums. Either way, I'm glad for the update, this song really grew on me as well so I understand the change of heart all too well.

It a lot more with this album. They're all growers. I think one of the main reasons is because it's so packed full of so much going on and it's hard to take it all in and it takes several listens to absorb it all and take it in to really really appreciate it. I love this song it's actually my favorite from this album. It's a heart beat the whole way packed full off emotions. Like running into battle. Kinda like a Vikings fight scene lol. And or riding into battle on a horse. It's suspenseful to me and I am getting older so I completely understand it.

I see this as 3 parts...A soldier, a proud soldier, who has answered the call many times. The beginning of the song he gears up and thinks about all the past battles and questions himself, to go once more into the shit. The middle section he rides his stallion with others at his side. You can hear the strides, at first slow, but then...the third part, the battle! Wielding his sword, slashing, killing until he meets his match. Just an awesome piece.

And sometimes you hear more and there is more digestion and steeping. A major case there is DSOTM; listening to it again when old ("10 years have got behind you")... those tracks have so much more meaning (and kick in the gut). Ah. Sometimes, the observation by the observer - changes the thing observed (...or, is it the observer changes?). Music! That's why it's great!

I kinda heard this one as going through the lifetime of a warrior. At the beginning it's interesting and experimental, exciting and coherent. Then as it goes on it starts to seem sad, but still driven. Then it gets confused and disjointed a little bit. Then as it starts to come together it hearkens back to the earlier portions, but that disjointedness and sadness is incorporated into a cohesive whole. Then toward the end as he sings about time bearing down it becomes rushed and anxious. The music has the feel of some of the major parts of life you might experience. This song really hit me in the feels, but I love hearing about it from a different perspective. Thanks for sharing your honest feelings, both initially and after you'd had some time to digest the song.

Are there albums that are 100% awesome from the 1st play? Sure but honestly, most of my favorite albums are ones I liked at first but after 4 or 5 listens, they reveal the masterpiece that they are. Dont feel bad if your opinion is different, to each their own. Puscifers last album "Money Shot" for me is similar. 1st listen was decent, 5th listen and its one of my favorites. I can say though that Tool "Aenima" was a masterpiece from second 1 to ending

Hi, i love your reactions especially your wife! always so emotional and pure. Can you react to "Jijiji" by Indio Solari ( /watch?v=5tHNjWdFRUU )
It's a band from my country "Argentina", you don't need to understand the language because that song is interesting by its music. I hope you react it. thanks for your reactions. Cheers from Argentina.

I loved your Nightwish reactions most of all . . and wondered if you had ever heard of this band (I still listen to their album Atlantis, 45 years on) - I think they are where it started.

It’s challenging to be sure, when I first heard them I had to in a way retrain my ears to figure out what exactly was going on, it’s more than worth the effort to do so imho. Check out The Grudge if you haven’t yet, well the whole Lateralus album straight if you have the time, grab some headphones and no distractions and you’ll be good to go 👍 it’s certainly not for the casual music listener, and if you don’t feel it that’s ok too. To each their own. ✌️

Wayne Dome hehehe I doubt it these dudes have been around since the 90’s, unless you are more into the older school like Zeppelin and stuff. no doubt they are an acquired taste but the ones who grab hold are ravenous fans once they get there. Either way, it’s all good!

Wayne Dome ohhhh the good stuff from a bygone era 😂 yea that’s the generation before Tool no doubt, but Zeppelin is one of my all-time faves and so is Pink Floyd. No disrespect to the greats, but Tool is considered to be the Zeppelin/Pink Floyd of the newer era, I won’t say new cuz it’s not. Granted, they sound nothing alike and are comparable only in the level of artistry and innovation those bands brought to the game. The type of band that transcends genres. Hell, my favorite cover of all-time is Tool’s No Quarter from Zeppelin, but much like a lot of their stuff it takes multiple listens to fully “get it”. They just have a darker tone that appeals to some of us, yet the messaging in their lyrics is positive. The guitarist doesn’t shred, but his understated playing is genius. The drummer is a god. Perhaps in your boredom try out Disposition-Reflection-Triad. It’s the last three songs of the Lateralus album I told you about but they go together, and they have links on RUclips for all 3 in one shot. It’s like an albums worth of music but does a decent job showing the range of the band. If not, whatever! but don’t think you are too old and can’t get there with these guys I’ve been seeing a lot of comments of my parents (your) generation on Tool reaction videos blowing a gasket about this stuff. If you can handle the atmospheric long songs of Floyd you can handle Tool. Have a good one my good sir and stay safe! ✌️
