    You introduced me to Dr. Susan, for that I am forever grateful. I have been on pellets for two years now and it has been lifechanging. I tell all of my friends about them. Here in the northeast, it was very difficult to find a provider, but I did thanks to the knowledge I gained by listening to Dr. Susan. I feel amazing and my marriage has improved so much. Please continue to educate us regarding pellets and women's health over 50. I would love to hear more from women who are on pellets and if they have experienced any changes and how they manage their doses. Thanks again.

    I had a partial hysterectomy @ 28 (endometriosis) then later had my ovaries removed @ 34 and I was on HRT util I was hit by a near-fatal stroke @ 50 What a great video, thank you both so much.. I really enjoyed watching and listening to two highly itelligent, informative women - able to respond and truthfully answer so many varied questions. Also by openly discussing your own menopause journeys and treatments I believe it must have given the listeners a great deal of comfort and supplied the answers that so many of us women want to hear.(it did this for me) Great Job ladies, well done on subject selection, Dominique - love you and everything you do so much. Keep up this kind of video it was terrific

    Great podcast Dominique and Dr. Susan. I've been seeking HRT treatment for about 3 months now. I've had three doctors turn me a away telling me it's dangerous and another telling me to join weight watchers. 😡I know you don't know me but , I am not overweight. This podcast has me fired up to keep seeking the treatment I need. Thank you

    Loved the podcast! As a 67 year old woman who had a complete hysterectomy in 2009, I found a doctor who gave me bioidentical hormones which helped my hot flashes, etc. She took me off those hormones 2 years later telling me that I'd be at risk for breast cancer, blood clots, heart disease, etc. She also said that sooner or later you'll go thru hot flashes....do you want them now or when you're much older? So I went off the hormone treatment. Now, at 67 I've been diagnosed with osteoporosis and feel like I've put myself at risk for heart disease and dementia. Makes me angry that I was misinformed by a medical doctor. I'm now on hormone pellets and have never felt better! It's been more than 10 years since my hormone treatment stopped, is it too late to help prevent bone loss, heart disease and dementia since starting back on hormones?

I do take magnesium, vit D K2, B vitamins and eat clean, no soda, very little sugar, and exercise regularly. Weight/strength training, very little cardio. I’m also spend a lot of time outdoors and don’t have any negative people in my life😉. Great video ladies!

      My lifestyle and supplement regimen is the same, and I'm almost 51. No symptoms, except for occasional very light periods and some hot flashes that are triggered by activity (and aren't really disruptive). Of course, that could change as I get closer to menopause, but I'm hopeful. Sleeping well and lots of energy. No alcohol, little processed sugar or gluten. I honestly think a consistently healthy routine for years is your best bet for happy aging overall.

    I’m 54 and in 2020 went through chemo/ radiation for breast cancer. It’s a hard decision when it comes to whether to go on instructions from oncologist of taking cancer med (estrogen blocker) or HRT when there’s so much info now showing that the benefits far outweigh the old stigma that associate it with causing breast cancer. I love these episodes.

    So very informative thank you. I had thyroid cancer, had my thyroid removed. I had breast cancer also BRCA2, I’ve had ovaries removed, double mastectomy, and at 57 I am taking estradiol transvaginally. I wish I had the opportunity to call and ask a question I would love to know the mental health impact of hormonal imbalance as it relates to depression. Im sure there’s a correlation I just wish my doctor would help me balance hormones and not always want me to go on SSRI s I believe there is a great need for many but I don’t do well on those meds. I want to start upstream and have a Dr tell me it’s ok with BRCA and past breast cancer that I can take PR and ER and even testosterone.
    Blessing to all

    • @drsusan

      There are a lot of different types of magnesium that have different effects so the dosing is different for each
      The product I take for sleep is called neuroMag by designs for health- it's mag threonate (not mag citrate that would be used to speed up bowel function , for example).
      The dose is 3 capsules a night - each has around 150 mg . I also take one of their products called insomnitol (includes 5HTP and melatonin)

      Depending on your state - you can order your own blood tests at a very discounted rate directly with certain laboratories or providers like Thorne Research amongst others. I would research this. Very often - costs to insurance companies are overly inflated but the willingness to self pay opens up much lower rates. Consult your doctor and if not available to you - please research options within your state to self purchase these tests.

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan 8 месяцев назад +2

      That's right -actually the cash price for the full hormone tests including everything that I mentioned in our office is only about $200 which is less than most people would pay with insurance

      I agree with above comment about trying magnesium. I would also explore herbs such as passionflower and skullcap. Make an infusion (strong tea). Acupuncture can also help, and the Chinese herb zizyphus is very good (it is blended with other herbs in sleep formulas). A melatonin supplement is another option. There are good natural remedies I would try before asking for a medical doctor's help. I would see a naturopath first. Just my opinion... steer clear of anything pharmaceutical. Take care. ❤

    It's interesting to hear about the outcomes of studies. But l do like to know who was involved in funding the study, and was there a conflict of interest of any kind? Studies can be biased. I'm not suggesting any studies cited here were biased, but it's something to keep in mind when making health related decisions... due diligence.

    • @drsusan

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan 8 месяцев назад

      Agreed- but much better than studies funded by drug companies, so no problem as these big studies cost a lot of money and the only people who can find them generally are either the government that would be the NIH or drug companies. And no argument here that was a terrible study!! And in general, I understood to be one of the worst studies ever done for women's health!

Had tried the patch but would get migraines every time I changed it so I went on the oral tablets. My concern is should I be taking asa or fish oil to help with the blood clotting factor? Or the risk of blood clots happen when first taking it.? Does the risk increase of blood clots as you age? Are the patches different now days vs the patch 20 years ago? Isn’t the estradiol patch synthetic not bio-identical? I’m on both the estradiol bio-identical cream, testosterone cream and the progesterone cream. I’m 66 and can’t seem to lose weight. I lift weights 3x a week and bike 6 miles 2 days a week. Do you think these hormones are keeping me from losing weight?

    • @djohnson0713

      The estradiol patch releases plant-based, bio-identical estradiol through your skin and into your bloodstream. I use the Vivelle Dot estradiol patch. It’s small & clear. I change it 2x week. There may be residue on your skin when you remove the patch. A cotton round & some micellar water or witch hazel will remove the residue from the patch in a gentle way. FYI- I’m not a Dr. Wishing you the best.

    • @LilyB-vz8lq
      @LilyB-vz8lq 8 месяцев назад +3

      I’m no expert but it seems to me that if it comes in a package it’s synthetic. The term bio identical is stretched for marketing purposes. Maybe soy/yams were involved in the manufacturing process but the only bio identical hormone is what’s inside your body. They should probably call it bio similar. Maybe. Watch out for that long list of side effects listed on the package insert. My 2 cents anyway.

    • @djohnson0713
      @djohnson0713 8 месяцев назад

      @@LilyB-vz8lq A proportion of the products on the market for HRT are body identical and use a type of oestrogen called estradiol. This is mainly derived from plant sources, including yams. These products use hormones which are identical to those produced by the body. Bioidentical hormones are made from plant sources; synthetic hormones are made from man-made chemical compounds. I’m not a Dr or an expert but this info is on many reputable sites & this is what Dr. Susan is saying & she is a Dr. & an expert. I hope the doctors info is helpful to you. It can get confusing. Wishing you the best.

    If you have your uterus, you need to take estrogen AND progesterone.

I’ve gone from working out all the time about a year ago to having no energy, lack of motivation and translating an activity which I enjoyed so much before to now becoming a chore. I don’t know if my sudden lack of sleep has to do with early signs of menopause (peri menopause)? Or just your typical stress that comes from work and life 🙄🙄🙄I’ve also been feeling off and my mind goes into overdrive waaay more than before!!!! My periods have become way shorter also. Overall, I’ve noticed differences with my body that I can’t explain…. Maybe they’re early signs of menopause?!? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not taking any medications since these changes are new and recent - However, I will start taking Magnesium in hopes it helps with whatever is going with my body!!!

I take progesterone (mine is low the week before my period), I take DIM to lower my estrogen (my estrogen is high compared to my progesterone), and I take a little bit of a testosterone cream (mine is very low) to help w my energy. I will be very specific with my question: does HRT affect those women with Estrogen-receptor cancer? Also, Susan mentioned the importance of timely mammograms to prevent breast cancer but there are a few of us who had the mammograms (I had one in April 2005- categorized as a young patient) but ended up with stage III breast cancer (diagnosed October 2005). I think that being diligent with your mammograms and self-assessments is not enough. If you can find a silver lining, I was pushed into automatic menopause due to chemo but did not even know I was “officially” in menopause: no symptoms or discomfort or changes in mental function whatsoever. My gynecologist had to order a blood test to determine that I was, in fact, in menopause. The reason I did not know about this transition is that I had been using an IUD prior to this odyssey so I had not had a visible period in years.

    • @drsusan

      Congratulations on being a breast cancer survivor and absolutely with a stage three estrogen,receptor positive breast cancer we would be looking for other options and one of those certainly could be testosterone with an estrogen blocker. If you look at the Research from Dr. Rebecca Glaser online you will see that she is pioneered most of this research for her own breast cancer patients. So there is still help available even for breast cancer patients and lots of things we can do to help you to feel better, but I would definitely investigate testosterone.used with an estrogen blocker and you don't have to worry about the common complaint that oncologist have, which is that some testosterone does aromatize into estradiol, but that can be prevented and Rebecca Glaser's patients had more than 85% reduction in their symptoms so that would be a great resource to investigate! And for vaginal dryness, laser is a fantastic option for breast cancer patients

      Thank you for your comment as I recently completed treatment for hormone positive breast cancer and was advised by my oncologists that I must take a hormone blocker, and must not take HRT or use estradiol vaginally. My cancer, while found early with no lymph node involvement, was invasive lobular carcinoma. Guess they’re erring on the side of caution.
