  • Wanted to make a video with my thoughts on the "Fall of Shady Sands" chalkboard controversy in the Fallout TV show. I started working on this before the IGN interview with Todd Howard and the showrunners, who stated that New Vegas was indeed canon and that Shady Sands wasn't nuked until after New Vegas. Still, it's not really clear what the "Fall of Shady Sands" refers to exactly, so I made this!
    (Reuploaded due to audio issues)
    ---
    After speaking with several prominent figures in the NCR, The Courier concluded that the once great Republic was now falling apart. He returned to the Lucky 38, where he and Mr. House discussed the likelihood of long term NCR survival.
    Mr. House proposed an idea: That Shady Sands had already fallen in 2277, and they just hadn't realized it yet.

      No. It does not even come close. Hanlon describes the aquafers of NCR as dry but we hear nothing of any water shortage. The NCR borders the entire collarado river. Obviously, they have enough to sustain an entire annexation of Baha and the Mojave as well as enough to support the Brahmin Barons. The Long 15 meanwhile serves as the main supply line to the Mojave asides from the Divide. At the time of the Divide, Kimbell was popular enough for his occupation of Hoover Dam to be supported and the first battle in 2277 was a pyrric NCR victory. Literally when the "fall of Shady Sands" occured. Victories against the BoS and Great Khans still occur. Kimbell's erosion of popularity came due to his inability to annex the Mojave in the 9 years since occupation. NCR has not "fallen" by 2277.
      House also predicts the survival of the NCR, not it's fall. He tells the courier that NCR is a nation of customers and it's occupation has been the engine of his growing economy. Clearly, if NCR citizens are engaging in tourism, then NCR is not falling. House predicts at least 5 years of New Vegas using the NCR for its benefit. And 100 years at most. So he obviously doesnt predict their immediate fall nor have they already fallen. House is also supplying the NCR with water and electricity from Hoover dam. He even gets them to make a deal with him. Why do this when he expects NCR to not exist in the coming weeks?
      Good video, but don't bother trying to explain stupid. It's not your job to do the writers work for them. Just play a better game or rather watch a better show adaption. I hear Last of Us and Arcane are pretty good.

      The Legion provides Security, Order, and Peace... for those not on the front lines of conquest.
      Within the borders of the Legion, places are safe enough that trade Caravans don't even hire bodyguards to travel. No raiders. No dangerous wildlife. You don't get this anywhere else in the world.
      Their entire civilization isn't built upon slavery, just their military. Slaves are a much more uncommon sight further within the Legions territory.
      The truth is this. What you see in the Mojave doesn't fully represent the Legion. You see the horns of the bull, but don't even get a glimpse of the rest of it.
      Compared to the NCR, this is very different. In the NCR, a soldier is also a citizen when not deployed. In the Legion, soldiers are soldiers, and citizens are citizens. For life.
      Legionaries are really just more slaves. Just indoctrinated and well armed.
      It's a safe place, guarded by an army of extremely loyal slaves.
      As far as long term solutions go, this is also probably the best one for humanity as a whole. I know it’s not in the game but pretty sure it’s canon but Caesar doesn’t want the legion to stay the way it is, and someone like ceaser needs to live not because of what the legion is but it would be, because if he died before his plan works so does the plan, and all that suffering he caused was pointless, ceaser is no saint not hero, their will be tales of his barbarism and ruthlessness, but it’s important to look back at these people and try to grow and became better then them to see what humanity comes to if not United under one goal, what ceaser did was to unite people under one goal, that’s why he based it off Rome, as he believed a society like that would allow him to absorb the tribes into a single goal, and by controlling and monitoring the use of substance Chems a society could be developed and created to better suit human needs and to educate people once they are ready to use these things

    @MrTiptopten 2 месяца назад +64

    Here’s the thing. In the lore, the fall of the NCR makes sense.
    “They're stretched thin, can't protect their frontlines, their towns, think paper's power, radio means control - all of it, useless.” - Ulysses ( Lonesome Road)

    • @Bothrops_Asper_89

    • @terpfen
      @terpfen 2 месяца назад +5

      Ulysses is a Legion-aligned character who is simply wrong about the NCR, and his statements about the NCR are meant to enlighten us as to Ulysses' motivations, not to provide a factual summary of the reality of the situation in the Mojave. Most of the characters in New Vegas incorrectly assess the NCR's posture in the Mojave. They interpret the numerous smaller problems in the Mojave as evidence of large-scale NCR inability to keep order. Progress enough in the NCR route and you find out that General Oliver deliberately deployed the majority of the NCR's forces at the Dam, because the Legion is the largest threat and has to be dealt with first. The smaller threats, everything from the Great Khans to the Fiends to the Omertas, are only able to be threats because of Caesar's endorsement and assistance; get rid of Caesar and they're just small groups that lose quickly to the NCR.
      NCR does protect their front lines; Oliver is focused on the Legion, Hsu on the Fiends. Kimball even won election after a military career where he mercilessly hammered the raiders and tribals that were attacking the eastern NCR population. NCR's presence in Nevada is due to the NCR military pursuing the antagonistic raiders and tribals as they fled east. The eastern frontier of the NCR is now so safe that, even with the Legion operating in the area, NCR citizens can make it safely to and from Vegas. And ask the Brotherhood of Steel about the NCR's conceptions of power. You'll get a very different answer.
      The lore about the NCR falling does not make sense. "The fall of Shady Sands" is a retcon that screws up New Vegas lore. The nuking of Shady Sands makes no sense; the only nuclear threat to the NCR after 2277 was Ulysses in the Divide, and he was targeting the Long 15, not Shady Sands. If the NCR had actually suffered setbacks that severe, then 1. we'd hear about it in New Vegas as the NCR soldiers would make reference to it, and 2. the NCR likely would not have been able to project power into the Mojave in the first place. Not to mention that House's long term plans to use NCR tourism to start up a new economy would never have worked because the NCR would have already been on the decline by 2281.
      The showrunners wanted to do something bold that acts as a dramatic hook for the TV show. They don't care about the games, they care about the show. Todd Howard should have recognized and rejected this.
