  • SPOILERS for the Fallout TV Show! I wanted to make a video with my perspective on why Mr. House was at the Vault-Tec meeting, and whether or not he actually worked with them.
Before the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, The Courier discovered an old holotape; a record of a meeting between Mr. House, Frederick Sinclair, and Vault-Tec. With the record seeming to suggest that Vault-Tec was responsible for the Great War, The Courier returned to New Vegas to ask an important question: Was Mr. House working with Vault-Tec?

      I mean he's not infallible.
He was getting betrayed by his organized tribes/crime families.
But on the other hand the courier has game mechanics which could be a wild card.
However I like to think he was being truthful to courier and about his motives.
He said he used mathematics to run simulations to attempt to say ahead of the curve when it came to the nuclear apocalypse starting.
We don't know if Vault-Tec was responsible for the atomic collapse, only that they wanted to do it.
But as far as see it.
House was just there paying lip service, nodding his head and going along with the the interests of the core group.
But only to keep an eye on them so as to better understand and get data for his algorithms to better predict the future.
Meanwhile to better prepare for saving humanity.
Washington DC had a missile defence system but it was dodgy due to corporate corruption.
Separately House poured everything and personally got involved in developing his anti missile defence system for Nevada.
Maybe him buying out REPCONN had something to do with it.

What I believe happened is at that meeting he knew the world was going to end and Vault Tech gave him rough data he used to know when the world would be ended by Vault-tech. So he seemingly agreed to their plan and then bought Vault 21. Maybe a couple other in the region for appearances. And then he moved as fast as possible with his own contingency. He knew WWIII was happening whether or not he joined the plan. And so that's why he "couldn't save the world, and wouldn't if he could". The old world save for him was so poison, so evil, there was nothing left to save.
I think Ol' Hank is gonna receive a not so warm welcome at the Strip. Cause people like him forced House to do what he did to save humanity from Vault tech. He was content to do it in his natural life but because of vault tech he couldn't.

During the meeting, the way Mr house presented himself, gave off the impression he wasn’t as into it as everyone else, rather he was just there for info and the smartest way to get info is to criticize some enough until they start to argue back, which is what he did the whole time. And when they said they were going to drop the bombs themselves, he most likely had a small panic attack but ultimately proved himself correct, and most likely ordered the platinum chip right then and there, only he was a day late. And yes he was already working towards the “end of the world” he calculated, just in secret most likely.

2:36 "The art of governance is about managing risk, not avoiding it." This pretty much defines Mr. House. He knew that inviting a lone courier completely blind to their true intention and side into his base of operations is a big risk to his plan, yet he still does it anyway because the reward is better if he managed to convince the courier to work for him and pull his plan off.

The thing is, during that meeting House directly references the experiment for vault 34 when they companies start letting lose on ideas for vault experiments. While sure, you can say vault tec liked it and used it even if House wasn't apart of the deal in the end, I think it was supposed to show he did have some level of involvement.

It even makes sense, at the end of the show theres a sign up on the strip in the credits that says cryo pods are being advertised in the TOPS casino.... and you can get to the lower levels of vault 21 from the tops in the cut content.

I think House finessed Vault-Tek. House makes the computers. He's a millions times smarter than anyone else in the room. He foresaw the war and made arrangements for it. I think he was there to find out what they were doing. He plays 6D chess while they are still playing checkers.

He gets Vault-Tec to confess to having a nuclear contingency to successful peace negotiations in a matter of minutes and is the only one not pitching dumb ideas for experiments. He probably did commission Vault 21, but obviously didn't trust it or intend to use it if at all possible.
Contingency on contingency. The House *ALWAYS* wins.

A little bit felating House. Remember, he is still rather manipulative, ruthless, and a little bit of a hypocrite in being for saying he is for thr open market but trusts himself with power a bit more, he runs a casino.
But we notably didn't see him show interest in experiments, nor does it make sense that he would actively want the bombs to fall, after all he apparently stopped some. It is in character that he would pretend to go along with things to be able to stay informed, and probably not trusted the others at the table to have a good plan to rebuild.
Could be an interesting reveal if we find out the bombs falling right before his chip was not a coincidence, and someone figured out that he was going to undermine the rest by not following through on the clean slate surface plan. That his vision would have seen him bringing society back much quicker.

    • @TheCouriersGambit

Ah, but am I felating House or is House felating himself?😄 You make great points! House is very flawed as with all the factions in New Vegas, I prefer an Independent Vegas but still find him to be a compelling character
I had the same thoughts as you during the scene from the show. All of the other representatives are chomping at the bit to share their ideas for vaults, while House asked the only important question. And an interesting thought at the end about House undermining the rest!

Mr. House is clearly the kind of person who has a greater aptitude than any of the other people at the meeting. He understood that destroying the earth's surface population with nuclear Armageddon to create a clean slate for a potential utopia vision to bear fruit was insane and that was really mattered was to solve the problems of the world already at hand. He also understood that if there were not enough people to rebuild civilization, enough "potential customers," then any chance at profit would impossible. Furthermore, his shrewd decisions to have not fallen for the obvious con Vault Tec played on its subordinate companies and upon itself, to save Las Vegas either with effective anti-missile defenses or allowing a vault to be built to have some people be able to survive and repopulate the area as a failsafe, and to push forward attempts at space exploration for the discovery of planets rich viable for colonization and resource extraction makes him the most intelligent man left on Earth.

There's enough time between the meeting and the bombs dropping for Cooper Howard to get divorced and lose his prospects, but it can't have been too long going by the kid's age. Is it know when House turned himself into a computer?

    • @TotalNoob86

I'd assume House put himself inside the life support system few days before the Great War, to make sure he could ensure Las Vegas' survival. As for the Vault-Tec meeting, read it at some other comment section that it could be before the acquisition of REPCONN by RobCo, which IIRC was around 2075 or 2076, because representatives from both companies attended the meeting.
